Not a fan of S Health because it's reporting views are pretty poor. If you want to record nutrition, you can really only view calorie intake, not actual nutrition (eg. sugar, carbs, protein, etc). I prefer to have a central hub for fitness information and was using MFP when I was wearing my Fitbit because it integrates with Fitbit, Endomondo, etc. I played around with S Health SDK and data viewer to see if I could code a plugin to view that data in S Health, but no go (and no Strava or Endomondo integration anyway). Not interested in Lifesum and the need to buy a premium subscription to make it remotely useful.
Finally, I figured out a way of getting S2 step count data into MFP (and therefore facilitating integration with Endomond, Strava, etc) and probably Fitbit as well.
It's kludgy, but it works:
Install Withings HealthMate.
Open S Health and under More/Settings/Data Permissions, turn on Withings and enable Step Count. Withings will now read and record your S2 Step Count from S Health.
Install Google Fit.
Scroll down to Connected Apps and Goolge Fit Apps & Devices, connect Withings to Google Fit. Gootle Fit can now read and record your step count from Withings.
Install MyFitnessPal and then scroll to Steps. Under Steps, select "Android" as your device and MFP will now read Step count from Google Fit.
In theory, Google Fit shouldn't be necessary as MFP claims to support Withings integration. I have not been able to get that to work because I think it requires an actual Withings device. Since MFP has the widest scope of integration, you should then be able to use your S2 step count with the long list of MFP compatible apps and devices including Strava, Endomondo, UA Record, etc.
Mods, I know I started a new thread for this and there are others complaining about lack of integration ... wanted to put the solution in one place for reference. If it should be somewhere else, please move it.
I'm not seeing android under steps.

When you select "steps" from the hamburger menu, it should give you a list of choices for "choose a device". Is Android not listed?

In MFP under Steps->Choose a Device has two options
1. Add a device
2. Don't track steps (with a check mark) - no way to un-check it

I wish ... as I said, I thought I could eliminate Google Fit from the equation but not really. That said, I am not sure all the apps need to run in the background. In some cases, the APIs that link MFP to other services are not device level but operate on the web. In other words, some of these services sync data with each other across the web, not on the device.

From these instructions, the only thing I was able to do in Connect Withing Healthmate to S Health. Did not see Withing as an option to connect to Google Fit or Android as an option to connect as a device in MFP.
In Google Fit, scroll down to Connected Apps. Select "All apps & devices" and there should be along list of apps. Scroll down to Withings and select it. You should get the option to connect Withings to Fit.

Yup, tried that, but Withings in the list of "All apps & devices".
It is working for me. The only thing is that nothing updates instantly so there's no way to tell until you check back a bit later. If it's not working, maybe uninstall Withings/Fit and start over?
I had trouble at first too. Withings does not show up as an app I can connect in google Fit.
I installed and set up the Withings app, then logged out of it and back in. It brought me to a "steps" page, and asked me to activate steps. (I probably could have done this from teh Withings dashboard.) When I did, it read the steps from Google Fit (I presume) and they displayed in the Withings app. My google fit app currently reads from my Sony Smartband Talk, which I am wearing today instead of the Gear S2. I opened S health and the step count is there as well. This absolutely works, thanks for the workaround! It also picked up steps from S Health when I wore the S2 over the weekend.
can't get sleep to transfer yet, but thanks for the great workaround!
I got it to connect withings to S health and do see my steps, but like others, I'm not seeing withings as a connected app/device in settings. so without that middleman, I dont think I can get MFP to work. I was hoping to get fitbit integration as I use fitbit stuff often (and their scale)
edit: I got it to connect. It's done from the withings profile page (to connect to google fit) the only issue is, google fit only pulls the "weight" information I manually entered and did not update the steps...

Hello
This is an amazing thread and I am nearly there but.....
1) I have linked google fit to withings (All good and showing steps)
2) Have linked withings to S Health (All good showing steps)
However...when I go to MFP and to the Steps menu, it doesn't give me the option to select Android. I can only see a range of Apps to choose from. Without this MFP doesn't know where to get the steps from does it? Or am I over complicating it?
Can anyone help? So close
I didn't have the option either at first, but it was working anyway. You have to link Withings to google fit first (I think) and then open google fit and make it work that way. The other thing I noticed in Withings is that you to activate step counting before it actually worked for me. I never got the option to select Android either.
the other thing that I did was downloaded Sleep as Android and shared that with S Health.

Can I just check.....in your MFP what did you select under the STEPS menu as your default? I currently have Withings tracker....should I select something else or have you got the steps turned off completely?

i am embarrassed to say I don't know what you mean by MFP.
There is a lag somewhere as well. currently, S Health shows 3637 steps, withings shows about 2400 and google fit shows 1900 or so.

Sorry I mean My Fitness Pal
OK I think I have it...
To send step count = Withings linked to S Health (and so Gear S2)
To link MFP to be able to read Step count = Google Fit linked to Withings
To get MFP to pick up steps from S Health = MFP linked to Google Fit
FINALLY...........MFP STEPS set to "android" (It finally appeared after reboot)
I am wondering if need to have BOTH Withings and Google Fit linked to MFP or is this creating a circular link? :cyclops:
Step count doubles
I've followed the instructions, however my step count doubles as either google fit or withings decides to use my internal step counter adding to the S2's step count.
I've got a Samsung S3 Frontier and want to use it to for hiking. I use All-Trails on my Android phone but they don't don't provide a S3 app. Does anyone know of an app that will let me load a trail, I can use a GPX file to load the trail into a different app on my phone but I don't see an app that also has the S3 support I need.
I'm looking for the ability to at least track distance, waypoint so it can be showin on a map, speed, elevation, elevation gain per hour, etc. The watch has all the sensors I need, I just need an app will work for hikes.
Looked at MapMyHike but it doesn't have a S3 companion app.

Finally - after 2 years of waiting - there is now a real hiking app available, that has all the features I always wanted: Locus Map Pro/Free Watch.
This works in conjunction with
Locus Map Free/Pro - Hiking GPS navigation and maps phone app (for Android) - which is a feature and map rich app by itself.
The watch app support lots of different maps (not just Google...). It supports track recording, navigation, stats etc.
You can plan a hike on your phone and then follow it on the watch.
I fully recommend it.
I used it now on several hikes and am fully satisfied - finally after trying so many other "hiking" apps.
More info on the locusmap website (sorry linke posting not allowed.

This is unusable solution, because you must have phone with you. It's not standalone application.
Have you tried Gaia GPS? It just might work with your S3. I've recently gone camping at Lower Lake and almost got off route. I would've wandered in circles for a while had it not been for this app. I downloaded the offline map of the area before the hike, and it paid off - I was able to find my way back to the trail. My friend hikes more often than me, and he prefers PeakVisor. He says this app works kind of like augmented reality - you point your camera at the peak, and the app shows you the info on it and the trail to it using your camera and advanced 3D technology.

ECG is a graph, if you think about it logically, theres no way to present that in the concise gui that Samsung health uses...Samsung Health is more of a concise overview of easily digested metrics, where as ECG is a linear graph, the two are not really compatible
Also figure in Samsung Health Monitors main purpose is to export that graph as a PDF, so its ideally not even meant to be viewed on the device at all...

1st of all you'll need to download the file "FeatureManagerOn" from the XDA Google drive downloads link found here admittedly while @Dante63 is good at unlocking these apps I don't think much to the layout of his/her guides. Look for "~~~ FILES and Description ~~~" download link will be under that, it's important to have this file sitting as such (root of Android phone) /DOWNLOAD/SAMSUNGHEALTH/FeatureManagerOn before following (opening the Samsung health app)
Open the latest version of Samsung health app, mines (6.21.2.007) just in case they lock it down even more... so if you'res is newer by the time you see this and the instructions I'm giving don't work, they probably locked it down more, press the "3 dots" found at the top right hand side, press "settings" scroll all the way down till you see about samsung health, press the version number several times till the option "set features" shows up, don't mistake this for "developer mode"
Once inside set features change health analysis to dev, and set data platform to enable developer mode
While I am supplying help here I am in no way saying I've done this to my watch 4, however I'm very happy that non Samsung smart phones are able to get the same level of data. Shame on Samsung for locking this up, joke is they are running the watch and their phones off of a open source operating system they are not apple and they should be opening this up to everyone, the code the lot. as they agreed to use a open source operating system and are profiting from it so should be giving back to the community, that they rely on, I'm disgusted with this company's behaviour and mistreating of code which by nature isn't theirs and shouldn't be locked down, all Android phones can run this there's no hardware reason... They are not apple they didn't build wear os or android.
So thank you @Dante63 I know it seems like I'm criticising you're work but I'm not, it's just that this shouldn't be a requirement for this to all work with standard non Samsung phones and the whole situation has annoyed me please write down how to do the steps in you're guide I literally didn't watch the video till after 9 attempts

Hello community!
This is an idea gathering exercise.
For a while since I purchased it, I never bothered with my Galaxy Watch4 (my first smartwatch). But as I'm now tinkering with it, I find it quite interesting. Here is a list of what my watch can do:
01. Show me a whole lot of information. I have 3 favorite watch faces, each configured to give me a different set of information. All I have to do is simply change the watch face and they tell me much of what i want to know. Actually, this one watch face tells me pretty much everything I need to know.
02. Navigation on the wrist.
03. Notifications from my phone.
04. Managing phone calls.
05. Wirelessly transfer files among all my devices like watch, phone, laptop and NAS. I use the following two apps for this purpose:
1. File Manager
2. WiFi Pro FTP server
06. Listen to music using Samsung Music app. I haven't had the need to install another music app.
07. Watch videos using the watch companion of this app: Sun Player. You don't need this app on your phone.
08. Stream YouTube videos using NewPipe.
09. Manage my emails. I have installed Microsoft Outlook, Samsung Email, FairEmail and K-9 email apps. But I haven't configured any yet, except for Microsoft Outlook.
10. Browse the internet using Samsung Internet browser.
11. Read PDF using built-in PDF reader of X-Plore File Manager.
12. Read e-books using AIReader.
13. Control the basic functions of my Samsung TV using SmartThings app.
I know I have left out the single biggest thing that most people use a smartwatch for: Health Tracking. I don't use it because much of that is gimmicky stuff and one must not rely on the number game when it comes to health matters. Things like an app reminding one to drink water is one of the most absurd things that people would use.
Some of the apps are Android apps meant for the phone. But they are quite usable on the watch too. I sideload them using one of the following apps:
1. Easy Fire Tools
2. Bugjaeger

Let me guess: you have setup Alexa or Google Assistant on your phone and use voice commands on your watch. These things are quite impressive, but personally I'm not comfortable in allowing apps to constantly keep listening to my conversations.

Absolutely. They are just too far from being a necessity. On the contrary, they are more of a distraction and contribute to loss of application of human faculties.
I shut off the listening part in both Alexa and Google Assistant, and just use the buttons to start the app...
During this week, I was playing around with my Watch4, and this post is about some of my observations, and conclusions about the same. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong with any of them.
There are essentially two categories of 3rd party watch faces:
1. CATEGORY 1: One that uses resources within the watch itself to display information.
The Android phone app for this category of watch faces merely send the store link to the watch face so you can simply install the app from the watch itself. The Android app here has no further role and can be uninstalled from the phone. But I would recommend that they remain installed in the phone because of a specific benefit: you can quickly install these watch faces from the watch because all these appear under 'Apps in Phone' section of Google Play Store app in the watch. So instead of uninstalling, it is better to put them in deep sleep (optimised state) on the phone.
Some of the watch faces in this category are:
01. amoledwatchfaces02. HMKwatch (or HMKwatch)03. Matteo Dini MD04. Ballozi05. Bosenko East (or Bosenko)06. fatih sendur07. WFProduction by A.Kovalev08. PERSONA Watch Face09. WINwatchface10. Tancha Watch Faces11. Yosash12. Chester13. Ntv Watchfaces14. Active Design Watch Faces15. Lihtnes16. SMZ JeonDaeHyun17. MDS18. Digital Wings [DW]19. SHIFR20. EK21. IV Watch Faces22. Timeflik (ex Mr. Time)23. MyWF Cartel24. Inspire Watch25. Prado Design26. MW Design27. Re: Brand28. Amser Watch Faces29. MW Design30. MatveyAn31. MDS Watch Faces32. styles4you33. Inspireand others.
All the above watch faces are either paid or have in-app purchases. They don't come with an accompanying Android phone app for their working, with very few exceptions that need the Android app just for phone battery feature.
2. CATEGORY 2: One where the watch face connects to its companion app on the phone over bluetooth/ wifi/ nearby devices to exchange information. In this case, the companion apps on the phone must keep running in the background in order to update certain information on the watch. e.g. phone battery level, etc.
The Android phone apps for this category of watch faces usually come with ads. although there are exceptions. For these apps, I have seen that almost every feature/ customization for these apps are locked behind a paywall. Personally, I find most of them very annoying, although there are exceptions. The following are some of the developers who engage in such a practice:
No ads; only in-app purchase
1. SOOON2. GS Watchfaces
Ad supported; in-app purchases to unlock most features and customizations
1. RichFace2. thema3. Smart Art Studios4. DeNitE Appzand others. The problem that I have noted with this Category 2 type of watch faces is that they may interfere with the connection between the phone and the watch. This is only an observation and I may be wrong. So the community can confirm or reject this observation.
In my case, the Galaxy Wear app as well as Smart Things app were having too much problems in displaying the battery level of the watch when I had this 2nd category of watch faces installed. Once I uninstalled all these, the problem seems to have been sorted. I must mention here that I had put all these companion apps in deep sleep mode on my Samsung phone. My guess as to why this created problems is because the watch faces were trying to contact their companion apps, which were not responding as they were optimized. This probably led to the connection being overwhelmed by these watch faces that resulted in the problem noted above.
UPDATE: My suspicion is probably correct. Apps and watch faces that REQUIRE a companion app on the phone are indeed the most likely culprit for this problem. The solution is to disable battery optimisation for these apps on the phone, or uninstall such apps from both the phone and the watch.
ADDITIONAL COMPLICATIONS SUPPORT
The following apps will add support for corresponding complications for all your watch faces that support WearOS/ 3rd party complications (i.e. those that are not designed to get complications only from their own companion apps on the phone, e.g Manager by SOOON):
1. Phone Battery Complication
2. Complications Suite - Wear OS
3. Heart Rate Complication
4. Health Services Complications
5. SimpleWeather
6. SimpleWear
If you have any of the above apps installed, you'll be able to add the corresponding complication to all of your watch faces. For example, if you add the 2nd item above, you'll be able to add UTC Time, day number, week number, etc. to all your watch faces, even if they don't come with it. Same holds true of BP, and other health related complications.
