So I connected my flash drive via OTG cable so I can watch some movies and listen music.. I noticed that there isnt a way to unmount it.. I looked into the storage settings but didnt see anything related to this..
Anyone know?
There should be an option to unmount in Settings/Storage, if not you can use an app called USB OTG Helper:

Thanks @timmaaa, I will try this app

Im trying to get my radio to read the mp3's from my phone but its simply not reading it, even after mounting it... nothing. I stuck an external sd card into the phone, copied the mp3's to it and also nothing, any ideas? The radio reads the usb stick just fine.
Radio reading mp3s???
what exactly do you mean radio not reading usb do you mean like when you plug in the connection in your car through the car charger?
The radio in the car has a usb port, you can attach usb drives to it and it would play every mp3 thats on it. Now when i plug in my captivate to it and mount it it simply says device not recognized.
Try going into Settings - Applications - USB Settings - and trying Mass Storage.
I have not been able to get Android to play over my USB car radio (Stock GM Bose system) Crapple products, Thumb drives and Zune work, but Android is a no go for me.
Might need to try USB Debugging too..When I had Android on my Tilt (no external audio) it had to be enabled or the USB to 3.5mm wouldn't work.
I've tried USB Debugging mode also.

Ya me too, the radio just doesn't recognize it, radio says "invalid usb information aquired". I rather use the usb cable than the usb>3.5m cable since it'll charge the phone too.
turn on mass storage or try media player mode with USB Debugging on as well

Doesn't work, tried every possible setting.
I have an OTB cable camera connection kit and I purchased a 4 port USB powered HUB and am also using a thumbdrive. I use Root Explorer as my primary folder organizer/file management.
What I did was load up Music Junk and pointed it to my usbOTG directory and into a Music folder. When I download a song it goes directly to my thumbdrive so that I don't have to keep the music on my Xoom, or so I thought. When I disconnected the OTG cable and opened up the Music app the music was in there and was able to be played. Is it stored twice on the Xoom (once on the stick and once on the device)?
I noticed that sometimes I have to refresh a lot in Root Explorer or unplug the thumbdrive from the hub to be able to see any files on it. Is that normal? Is there a correct way to unmount the thumbdrive so I don't corrupt any information on it. I'm testing this out on a thumbdrive because I plan to use a hard drive in the future with the OTG.
Thanks for looking.
Have you tried it without the hub? I've read that people have problems with hubs because the xoom simply can't output that much power.
The OTG cable works perfectly with the HUB. I loaded some emulator ROM's on a flash drive and connected a USB controller to it perfectly fine. I just don't know how to unmount the drive so I can disconnect it. Does it really matter? I'm under the impression that it does because I know you can corrupt files by just pulling it out of a computer without ejecting first.
It depends on the drive. Some drives protect against that, some don't. Majority of them do though.
Is there any way to connect an mp3 player to my xoom and manage my music without using a PC? I'm specifically asking about an iPod shuffle. My xoom is rooted and is running rana kernel. When i plug in my shuffle, my xoom registers that I have plugged something into the otg cable but does not open it. Is there an app for that?!
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Yep, there are more apps like usb mass storage watcher otg and drive mount.
I have both apps and they recognize that there is a device connected via USB but it doesn't give me Amy options to open it or do anything really. Drive mount allegedly mounts the device but again, does not give me any options after that.

The question is, what does the Xoom think it is? An external hard drive? How is it formatted? Can the Xoom recognize the music file format? I wouldn't think they would be compatible.
Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to enable usb mass storage device mode on the S8+. I want to connect it to my car via usb but it doesn't let me. I have read that I need to connect it as a mass storage device however all the apps that say they can do this say that they can't find my 'lun' file. I can connect it via aux but then I can't control the music with the pause buttons etc. Bluetooth isn't an option as my car doesn't have it.
up for this
MTP all the way
Maybe the issue is not with your S8, but with your car's USB. Try both these steps to isolate the issue:
1. Connect your S8 to a laptop to check if you can enable mass storage.
2. Connect another phone to your car's USB to see if it allows and recognized the mass storage setting.
3. Try to connect your S8 to another car and see if the mass storage can be used.

That is not a issue with the car USB... That kind of radio only support universal mass storage devices, the old andorid devices, android 5 and below, could be mounted as a UMS device, so the radio would be able to play it's audio files. Now android devices can only be mounted as MTP, so it doesnt works. One thing that you can do is root your phone and use some UMS enabler app.
Guys, can I access my storage from recovery mode?
I cant unlock my phone and need to get data from storage.
Is there a mass storage option, like old times?
Thx
Hi, i have a problem that i think is because of partition of our P20 phones. I have a stereo car player with USB connection to play music from a usb device and works fine, but when i try from internal storage of my P20, it not recognize my files.
I think this is because type of partition of P20.
Any of you know a solution to use our phones as external storage?
Of course i choose option "file transfer" on usb options instead only charge.
Thanks!
