[q] downgrade to 5.0 from 5.0.1? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone attempted this? The latest 5.0.1 is no good for me. I wonder if i can just flash 5.0 on top of it with out losing data or experiencing other problems.

i dont know if you are going to experience issues but what you can do is to copy, the data and obb folders, and backup the apps with titanium backup in your sd card.

dowgrade on stock tablet
Since an asnwer still hasnt been posted, Id like to know if it is possible to downgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.0. My tablet has never been rooted and has a locked bootloader, and I would prefer of it were to stay like that. Im thinking something similar to Odin on a GS4

U would have to unlock your boot loader. There are instructions on nvidia's site explaining the process. After looking into this, i think the only way to downgrade requires wiping all data. I think i may just hold out until they release a new update. Fortunately nvidia releases updates fairly quick.

Thanks for the help
Does anybody else have graphic glitches such as green colours appearing purple, and even when I panic and restart it remains even on the boot logo then goes away after a bit (no particular remedy, it just goes). There doesnt seem to be any particular action that makes it do that, it just spazzes out for a bit. Is this a driver glitch or just my particular device?
Im hoping its a driver glitch of sorts and not my device malfunctioning

[Q] Downloading OTA update while rooted (Verizon GS4)

So I've searched and search and haven't really found an answer to this question... If I have my Verizon Galaxy S4 rooted and nothing else (no custom ROM's or weird mods or anything just the root,) and my phone tried downloading an OTA update last night (which I stopped out of fear of a problem), can I download the update without causing a problem to my phone? I know I may lose the root, and I'm ok with that, I just want to know if it won't A) brick my phone or B) wipe all my data. Everything I've found conflicts, some people say you can do OTA stuff without any issue but that you will lose root, others say you can't and itll break your phone.. Just looking for a straight answer here. Thanks!!

Normally it isn't a problem to update OTA when rooted. The only thing that will change is that you Lose your root access.
Thanks man

[Q] 4.4.2 FXP and now weird blue screen flicker

I recently flashed the 4.4.2 OTA onto my phone, then downgraded to JB to flash Carbon but was not pleased so I reformatted the phone, put 4.4.3 back and then restored a nandroid from before I downgraded.
Now, when I unlock the phone, the screen flashes blue, not just parts of it, the whole thing, almost like the display is going bad. If i open a game, it stops and wont do it again until i relock the screen.
Just curious of anyone else has had this happen.

I apologize for not being able to help you with your issue, but where did you get a 4.4.3 file for the RAZR HD?

I have the same issue after OTA to 4.4.2. Usually happens to me when in YouTube or MX Player.
I see others with the same issue over in the Motorola forums.
Looking forward to hearing from others who have had this issue and found a solution.
My apologies, I meant 4.4.2

I also have had this problem with my droid razr maxx HD. I also have 4.4.2 and haven't flashed anything to it, but it is unlocked and rooted. It usually happens to me when im in portrait on the twitch.tv app. it stops after a bit, but I have no idea what is happening. it also stops if I go to landscape mode.

ditto
Now that I see others affected I should probably expand on my original post above.
Initially I took the 4.2.2 OTA update with an unlocked bootloader. After the update, phone stuck in splash screen with the "Locked Bootloader" message.
I then rebooted into recovery and re-installed the 4.4.2 AOSP using RSD.
I too see the blue flash most frequently while watching video and occasionally while in Touchdown exchange.

I was completely stock jellybean when I took the OTA, not rooted or unlocked or anything. I only recently unlocked and rooted mine. I'm pretty sure I had the problem before I did all that.

[Q] Rooting question with not fully loaded OTA update

I own a Verizon SCH-I535 that had version 4.1.2 and after months of avoiding the Verizon update I stupidly pressed install now instead of later. I did have enough mind to take the battery out before it could reboot but my question is can I still root? And can I still use the 4.1.2 method? I don't want to install any roms just wish to uninstall any bloat apps.
I had a very similar issue some time ago. Check out my thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607252
I went in a few circles, soft bricked my phone, but was able to recover. I think the important thing is to verify if your bootloader has been locked or not; boot into odin/recovery mode and checkout the messages posted in my thread. If the bootloader is not locked yet then you have options. If it is locked, you should probably just reboot the phone and let it do it's thing as the locked bootloader cannot be reverted.
Depends on how important this is to you. My wife got the 4.3 update and loves it, but she is not the type to do any customization. I now have a CM 10 d2vzw and am happy. It I were to do this again, I would probably verify you have an unlocked bootloader and re-flash the complete stock 4.1.2 image as I did. Issue is, you will probably lose a lot of data & settings, but things like pictures, etc. should sitll be there. Once the stock 4.1.2 is there you will want to root and disable updates, or else flash a new rom.
The 4.3 update (and anything after it) locks the bootloader. If that's a big deal to you, then you need to push some custom roms. If not, towelroot works on everything so far, so you'd be able to reroot (pretty hassle free) and do what you want.

[Q] how to update a 5.0.1 rooted?

Hey community,
after updating my 5.0 LTE 32 Shield Tablet some month ago and rooting it, I came to the conclusion that I don't really need root, but would like to continue receiving OTAs and have a device that just works.
Prio1:
Have a tablet with the latest updates installed.
Prio2:
As 1, but rooted.
I have made a apps+sysapps backup with Titanium.
What do you recommend as the next step?
Thank you very much.
All the best, Esshahn
Some additions:
1. I noticed I'm actually having 5.0 on my Shield. It's the 5.0.1 update plus the nVidia stuff that comes up all the time in the notification center.
I really just want to undo all root and whatnot actions and have a right out of the box experience on my Shield. I already did some stupid stuff (factory reset) and therefore lost my personal data anyway, so there's nothing to lose.
I noticed this forum isn't really active. If anyone doesn't know the answer, but could point me to the right forum for help that would be nice too.
Thank you
flash the full OTA through recovery: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
then reinstall supersu through recovery, no factory reset needed
Thank you for replying.
I got annoyed by it all yesterday and flashed 2.1, now I don't have root or custom recovery anymore.
Now the fun part: When I want to update to 2.2 normally (since it's now supposed to be a standard device without any hacks), it just shows the error robot.
So now I'm stuck with 2.1 and can't move left or right.
After reading all those comments about messed up colors in 2.2 I'm wondering if its actually worth the effort to update?
Any idea on that Bogdacutu?
Thanks,
Esshahn

you can flash the full OTA through TWRP or CWM, no idea why it won't work with stock recovery though
the update supposedly fixes the graphics glitches that appear in various apps on update 2.1, that might be a good reason to update
Thank you!
Actually, since I didn't have CWM installed anymore, I just sideloaded the latest OTA, which worked nice.

S5 root help

I bought the S5 when it first came out and subsequently used towelroot, as soon as it was available. It's been great for customization and extended functionality through the years. Now, however, i have slowly been experiencing more and more issues with this current setup...i.e. some functions have stopped working and many apps no longer work with the kitkat andoid version. Anyway, I am looking for a way to upgrade to marshmallow, or even lollipop, to be able to use apps...and hopefully some ui functionality returns with a reset during the process.
Warning: I have never used odin or flashed roms or anything to that level but i am willing to learn with some good direction.
Current setup:
SM-G900V, Android 4.4.2, Kernal 3.4.0, Build KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG, eMMC 15****
If it matters, I also use SuperSU, Xposed.
Not sure what other info would be helpful to assist me, but feel free to ask.
Also lately it can get stuck in a boot loop when rebooting. I'm afraid one day i will be unable to get it to boot up. additionally, it was hit or miss on reboots previously, but now i am unable to get the phone to recognize the SD card. Maybe i should unroot and hard reset, then reroot. Any suggestions regarding that approach? I vaguely remember something about having to undo all the changes made before unrooting.
Edit: All works fine currently, but hit or miss on reboots.
