Not sure if this belongs in general or not, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Last night I torn my phone apart to try and be the first one to do the palm inductive charger hack on a sensation, but once I got to the lower circuit board I noticed that the usb pins are way too close to the chip set and are permanently shielded with a metal shroud. I also noticed that there are no + or - terminals like on the EVO so it looks like a no-go for us so far.
Just a warning so you don't waste money on buying the palm stuff and tearing your phone apart.
Hmm, I just did a mod on my Galaxy Nexus (easy due to the pogo pins) and am pretty determined to do it on the wifes Sensation. I work with micro-miniature solder technicians so I'm not worried about that, guess I'll have to cut the shroud away to expose the USB connector though. That might get a little messy. I'll post pics if I can get it to work! Honestly, with the popularity of this phone, I'm surprised nobody has gotten the high WAF mod to work yet.

I think the biggest issue is the unibody case. Even if you get the soldering, or conductive glue down the inductive current won't make it through the stock case. I tried. You'll have to sandwich the inductive circuit between the phone and case.
I have since removed the inductive circuit because the tiny (prob around 32 gauge) wire broke and I didn't feel like rebuilding it. Assuming you could get the circuitry down using the positive resistor you might be able to solder a larger coil that may pick up through the case. If you figure it out I would be thrilled to know how you did it.
The only real reason I wanted to do it was because no one had done it on our phones yet. Good luck!
Nice find on that old thread. I've been wanting to do the same with my Sensation. Any idea about the fatty Mugen case? Just picked one up for $20. Seems a lot cheaper. Is the problem with the OEM case metal in the housing? Maybe this Mugen is all plastic.
There's a ton of space between the sim/sdcard and the housing (for the housing to be able to accommodate the double battery) and may be the perfect spot.
My idea is to hide a dozen rechargeable AA's or so inside a leather belt and have a holster (or pocket powermat). Seems like an actual reasonable use for inductive charging. Of course, it's just conceptual at this point. I need to determine if AA's are actually feasible (comfort and style wise) and whatever the inefficiencies are with inductive charging.
Looking to be able to go a week or so without having to recharge the phone/belt (figure I'm running through 1500mah every 10 hours or so, less when sleeping).

That sounds good, but with the weight of the rechargeables may pose a issue when it comes to portability when you are talking about a dozen of them. Why not just carry along a power bank? I have a 10000mAh one that charges two devices at once and is no bigger than a phone.
I mean I love the idea of inductive charging. I mean the GSIII has the option to do so.

I think I'll try this one out but I do have one question. Is having 1 pin (assuming it is 5v) enough to complete the circuit? Doesn't it need a ground lead somewhere?

I don't understand your picture. Yes, you need a ground to complete the circuit. And without manipulating the data pins, you will be limited to a charge rate of 100mA.
ladys and gentlemen. assuming you are happy with only the 100ma cap then could you not logically just connect the wires to the battery terminals and allow that to charge it. leaving the usb port free?? i have had to do this once or twice in emergency situations when i didnt have the correct charging cable but had a damaged usb + laptop.
Yes, you will need to ground to any metal point to complete the circuit. I just sandwiched the wire between the sim and metal sim holder.
I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my Sensation. I wanted to make sure that the Touchstone charger would support the weight of my phone in it's case, so I took the short cut of using parts from a microUSB charger to route from the induction coil terminals to the charge port. I'm halfway through routing all the necessary connections to go through the board instead of the charge port. In the attached picture, I've highlighted 2 test points that will let you route your +5v line into the board. I'll use the metal housing of the sim card reader to attach the ground.

I did!, but not with pogo plugs for an elegant solution. I ended up just running the wires from the inductive charger through a hole drilled into the metal back and than routed to the pad shown in the picture and the sim card metal housing.

I am looking to purchase a Car Qi Charger. I have not yet found a thread for this, though there were options mentioned in the regular Qi Charger thread, but this one is specifically for the car.
I have found 2 which look promising but just want to know other peoples input. Plus want to know if they will hold with a case on the phone.

I've been agonizing over this choice myself, but I'm even worse off than you- I've gotten hooked on having a magnetic mount (currently using the Bracketron Si earth elements mount), and I REALLY like the S-View cover, so what I really want is a car dock that does Qi charging AND holds the phone magnetically, with strong enough magnets to hold through the S-View flap! Unfortunately, it seems that at this point there aren't ANY magnetic Qi docks (apart from the Airdock, and I'm right on the same page as you there), let alone one that would work through the S-View flap! So basically if I want Qi I'm stuck either sacrificing the magnetic holding feature and going with arms, or I'll have to build my own custom dock. Haven't quite decided which route I'll go yet, but man do I wish there was a decent magnetic Qi dock!
Anyway, as for Qi docks that DO exist now, in my research I've found a couple that seem to really stand out and come up time and again as the go-to's for Qi in the car. Here's the best options I've seen so far:

I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the plethora of non-name brand Qi gear thats out there, some people say that they work just as well for cheaper prices and others say that they're total junk. I guess I'd say if you see one you really like then just make sure that you read reviews on it so you don't get stuck with something that doesn't work or worse.
As for a mount that uses the CD slot, I haven't seen any Qi docks that come with that option but many docks share similar or identical mounting solutions, so once you find a Qi dock that you like you could probably find a non-qi dock that mounts in the CD slot and then just replace the actual dock with the Qi one. Personally I don't think I'd trust the CD slot to hold up a phone this heavy, I'd be worried about damaging the CD player not to mention it'll be much less steady, but hey if that's what you like then good luck!

I will have to look into the Ottie one as it does look fairly decent. The Nokia one is way over priced and I cannot say I am a fan of it. The Tylt is nice, but I am sure it is going to be quite costly due to their original designs of their products.
The reason I want it as a CD mount is because I currently have one (minus the Qi of course) and it works just fine, hold the phone super good, without issues at all what so ever. Plus, no damage done to the head unit or CD Slot (not that I use CDs of course lol).
I just want something very low profile, but for it to do the job you know. The reason why I do not want anything mounted on the windshield is because I hate wires and I like for the phone to be close to me while I drive. I do not text and drive though! I plan to run the wire behind my head unit and bring out just enough to plug into the Qi holder. This will be a pain in the rear of course, but I am anal when it comes to wires lol. I have a radar, dash cam, and soon a Qi charger, all of which I want to make fairly invisible with regards to wires.

I used it for my S3, and it does fit a Note 4 with the Ringke Fusion case on it with a little room to spare. I haven't used it for Wireless Charging on my Note 4 yet because I'm still waiting for my wireless receiver to arrive, but it has worked perfectly on my S3 for the last 6 months.
It doesn't go in a CD slot, but it does offer both the suction cup and the air vent hooks.

Keep in mind that none of the chargers that people listed here except for the Itian have the One Touch operation. Paradoxically that includes the iOttie charger (people who invented it). So to me they all seem ridiculously overpriced for the limited functionality they provide. I am using Itian, and so far pretty happy with it. If you really need some sort of specific mount (CD, Vent, or whatever), you may be able to take Itian head (it's detachable) and glue it to the mount that you like. I had to do that myself because by dash has rough texture and the only suction cup that would stick is iOttie gel cap. So I used a suction cup plus arm form a low end iOttie charger ($13.99 on sale) and Itian head ($27.99). Cheaper and more functional than name brands.

I actually ordered the C1 yesterday, but ordered it from AliExpress for $34 and should hopefully be here in about a week or so.
I will report back. I am wondering about purchasing the Itian though and seeing which one is actually better, but not sure yet.
I used AirDock with my LG G3. It should work with note4 also. Got nothing bad to say about that dock!

Disregard my earlier suggestion. Now that I finally have a Qi Receiver sticker for my Note 4, I'm finding that this one doesn't charge because the receiver isn't centered in the phone. I did cut up my receiver and turn the coil as close to the center as possible (careful not to cut the actual wires!), but it still doesn't charge for more than 2 seconds before the charging indicator turns off on the phone.

Caveat: I don't know if it would work with the receiver sticker still in it's original configuration... :/ If I had to guess, I'd say it would because I can slide my phone to either side a little bit and I don't lose connection.
I had it with my Note 3. With the Note 4, I upgraded the car charger to a QC 2.0 charger and my car charging need is solved. It charges way faster than the best Qi charger that I've tried.

Have the air dock with the goose neck mount. It was garbage and then I saw that they have the magnetic stickers. I attach the magnetic sticker to the back of the case I have the tough armor case. Now it is absolutely amazing I can't imagine anything better anyone looking for charger

Can someone with the AirDock comment on the strength of the magnet? I've been pretty interested in it, but the problem for me is that I really like the S-View case, so the magnet in the AirDock would need to be strong enough to hold through the S-View flap. Maybe someone could test how well it holds with a piece of cardboard or something between the AirDock and the phone? I've totally gotten addicted to having a magnetic dock, but I also love my S-View and I want wireless charging! I mean cmon, can't I have everything???

Just use these, its what I do and it works amazing
Right, I would assume I'd need to use the sticker but what I'm wondering is whether the AirDock will hold the phone with the S-View cover flipped around to the back. Basically the sticker would be on the back of the phone, then the S-View cover would be between the sticker and the AirDock. Are the magnets in the AirDock strong enough to hold the phone even with the cover between them and the sticker?

The nexus 5 has 4 metal discs in it specifically to make magnetic docks easy and allow for some self aligning.
The airdock with the nexus 5 works reasonable well. Not perfect, I do have to realign the phone more than once per day and end up grabbing or holding if if there's a big dip/bump/whatever.
However even with a thin case the n5 is unusable with the air dock. What's worse is that the airdock + note 4 is worse than the airdock + n5. I'm guessing the note 4 doesn't have the 4 discs.
I have an airdock and it works great with the Note 4.
i use an itian charger and it works great with double sided scotch tape for outdoor mounting. sticks vertically to the dash and holds the note 4 with two prongs.
While shopping for cars, I found out the camry and Avalon can come with wireless charging. I ended up with an Avalon Hybrid with tech pkg.
I'm not happy with this one - lost allways the connection - looking now one with three coils like my Itian desk charger, this one works perfect....

I like the iOttie...
So, just some questions I'm hoping might be answered here.
I have the BLU Pure XL and I found an aftermarket QI receiver which seems to work; except I suspect that sticker on the back cover is the NFC tag assembly and it blocks Qi.... so one of two questions:
Any idea if it can be removed without too much difficulty? I was thinking of taking a razor blade and trying to shimmy under it, since it's almost certainly just glue. I'd try this on the book cover first, of course.
Second option, is based on the internals of an NFC tag... is it realistic to reposition the tag somehow? I'm sure I could use some speaker wire or something to make the connection to the phone antennae....
Anybody have any suggestions for how a human might go about hacking this together? At the moment I simply have the receiver outside the phone's shell (worth noting that it does indeed fit underneath it though!) and I'm thinking I'll just let the black silicone case I have coming hide the cable. Ideally though I'd like to get the qi working underneath the case.
Not that it would seem anyone cares, but I have found out some helpful information:
1. The receiver does fit under the back cover of the phone
2. The NFC antenna is basically a sticker. Peel carefully and it can be re-applied without issue, if you need to remove it to get rid of interference with the Qi. Best place to hook it up is under the metal contacts - but BE GENTLE.
I'm hoping to figure out if I can get some kind of antenna that fits somewhere and works to have both at the same time - as it stands the only way to retain your capacity for NFC is to have the Qi receiver on the outside of the phone.
Another update: don't do this. It really is not worth the effort - I cooked part of my back cover, so now there's a big blemish there.

Anyhow, for the receiver, I went for a generic one off eBay. Cost about $3, and then a $20 qi pad, for the fat lot of good it did me. I don't really think you can get these receivers "professionally" anyway. Exercise caution, I've got a permanent blemish on my back cover now because of it, and things might have been more awkward. I would definitely advise against putting it UNDER the cover, as the only saving grace is I had it externally.

It's not wireless, but I did find these wicked neato adapters on eBay that are basically the micro-usb equivalent of magsafe.
They're $5 CAD a pop, but it's almost as trivial to hook the phone into charge/take it off with these, and they are absolutely safe. Also reversible.
Basically there's a small nib you leave in the phone on a permanent basis (well... removable, obviously, but you get the point) that isn't much more obstructive than a qi receiver anyway, and then there's an adapter that takes any normal micro-usb in and gives it a magnetic snap head to hook onto this nib.
Just eBay "micro-usb magnetic" and it should pop up at around $5 with free shipping.
There don't seem to be any OEM Qi backs left., which is what I wanted. I got an aftermarket one, which is as thin as the stock non-wireless back, but that 1) doesn't fit all that well; there's always a gap at one corner or other, depending on which end I start with when putting it on, and 2) is at least moderately durable.
The one I have is starting to split, 3 months in. It charges fine (800mA at 5VDC, which is better than my Note 3 with OEM charging back)
So... if you are using a wireless charging back, which one are you using, and how do you like it?
BTW, I've been using a number of these wireless charging docks ($10 on amazon) and they're great if you want a spot you can just plonk your phone down and have it charging.

I use it with this charger. I read a lot of reviews that the wireless charging is very slow and someone even said it was more like a toy... For me, the wireless charger easily charges my phone as fast as a 1 amp charger. You do have to have a minimum of a 1 amp wall adapter.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I use a rubberized case with my phone, so it is rather thick and have no issues using the charger with it.
I think the charger and back that bishop mentioned are fine. I used similar, but I actually stripped the charging circuit out of the back, removed the black plastic cover and put it into a standard (genuine) Samsung back, which I know fits perfectly. In fact, I bought 2 of these backs and stripped out the charging circuit in both. I put one in a standard back and another in a Samsung S-View cover because the Charging S-View cover from Samsung is no longer available. Now I have the choice of either S-View charging or standard back. charging for when I use the VR headset. BTW, looking at the circuit for the backs I used, it looks like NFC is in there as well.
I bought two different Qi receivers (and used the original back), and I regret it. The first one died after a month or two, and the second one heated up the phone while charging and ruined the battery.
So I broke down and bought Samsung's wireless charging back, and it has been working perfectly.

I also use this back, (sold under the h-ber brand name on amazon) and it works fine. Of course the back does fit a little tight, and sometimes, you have to put it on the bottom (near USB port) first, or the clips don't clip.
I have phone in a incipio case which is two layer TPU and polycarbonate and pretty thick, but it charges fine.

I have used a samsung fast charging qi dock, and a pleson fast charging dock, which both work fine, but will only charge at normal qi speeds due to lack of qi fast charge support on the note 4.

What are you doing to hold those stripped pieces in place? Is it just packed so tight that you don't need anything or did you attach it somehow?

I just put the circuit panel onto the phone in the right position and then glue on the cover and then fitted the cover without moving the circuit panel. Press down well and the charging receiver is now glued to the case and in the correct position.

Thx a bunch for your prompt response. Sorry, what kinda glue is this? I know it gets hot back there and I've never been this best at choosing proper adhesive materials. I'm specifically using this setup for a contraption I found for the gear. I purchased a built in back but don't trust it's quality. Here is the gear contraption. It will be my 4th fan setup but this time, wifi charging is a possibility:

I used double sided tape when I did mine - not quite as permanent as glue, just in case it moved before the glue set.

Feels cheap and looks cheap but it works and does the job well enough. It's foldable too, so you can use it either horizontal or vertical.
Worth it, if you need to buy a cheap one to leave at the office.

There are magnetic holders that claim to work without blocking the wireless charger. They use a metal piece shaped like an upside down "U" instead of a square one. Given all the warnings against mixing credit cards and metal on cases and what not with wireless charging, I'd be weary of trying it out myself on my own phone, but they do exist. Just search for wireless charging compatible magnetic mount, I'm sure some will turn out.
Could be that I'm missing something (perhaps even a crucial factor), but why couldn't you use a wireless charger at the same time you have a metal plate in your case? It can't be harmful to the phone right?
I have a strong enough carkit so I can use a relatively small circular piece of metal in my slim fit case for the Note 9, works a charm. I've tested the location in the case, so I can use this in my car and still be able to put it down on a wireless charger so it charges without a problem. Okay, so when I put my phone on the charger pad a bit to far down or up, it doesn't charge, but that's just a matter of trying which position is best and this will become a non-issue the more you use it (since you know exactly how to put it on the charging pad).
Please enlighten me whether or not it could be harmful in any way to the phone because I don't want to risk a $1250 phone for the convenience of charging wirelessly. But I haven't ran into trouble this way just yet. Been doing this also with my Galaxy S8 for over a year btw, it still works like new.
