Advice for selling n5 and buying a mi4? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What do u think for this?
I want to buy a xiaomi mi4?
If i sell the n5 for around 300 usd and i will need 100 more to buy the phone in my country?

If you like, i got a oneplus one over my n5 and its too big, the nexus5 is a good size with lots of support, you should check out the forums for user experience and the problems users are having, see if theres any micro stutters or issues that ruins your android experience
Battery size was the main reason for upgrade, to 3100mah and its so much better
I would stick to 5inch max but that depends on how big yout hands are.

No.
Nexus 5 is a really good device. I used Xperia Z and LG G2 before. I'm also using Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. I was a iphone user once, my wife still uses iphone 5s and ipad. Well I had a Lumia 920 too once (before xperia Z).
As you can see I'm pretty experienced nearly all UI's and OS. I can clearly say that Nexus devices are totally different. Trust me. They have issues, they need to be updated. But they make you live a totally different experience.

Make your own decisions.

Most Chinese phones have crappy firmware and for me i don`t trust them that much when it comes to warranty.

I would agree with that if we were talking about some plastic toys for children. But the truth is, that almost any high tech product or part of it is made by Chinese. Probably Mixaomi is made by the same factory as Apple. And another truth is, that for this situation are guilty mostly west factorys, because there are so greedy and they need cheapest working force as they can get.

The hardware is not the problem, its the software thats the problem. Look at Oppo where they released Color rom 2 for the Find 5 that is cloned off OmniRom without giving due credits and even manged to mess this up. Let them prove themselves first, till then i stick with the established brands that can repair and give warranty for my device in my own country.

Motorola and social skills

After getting a lot of flak for selling locked down phones with crappy support from the company, things got a little heated and a Motorola rep told people that if they wanted hackable phones, they should buy them from someone else. Much outrage and Moto quickly told everyone that they REALLY loved dev's and rooters and much would be changed to make their phones more mod-able: http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/21/motorola-ready-to-make-sweet-love-to-rom-devs-and-rooters/
Sounds great, but a lot of people (including me) remained sceptical. We wanted to see it with our own eyes instead of just believing their good intentions, but hopes were high. Then last night, this popped up: http://community.developer.motorola...pment-for/Cliq-BlurCamera-apk-libs/td-p/11290
Wow, way to support your devs, moto! Notice the wording "One of our devices"... A lot of us were up in arms on twitter, but then MarkAtMotorola, their official spokesperson for social media, swooped in with this little gem:
@mastermind278 @adumont it was a poor choice of words. Had I known about it prior, no one would have seen a message like that.

To which I replied:
@markatmotorola @mastermind278 @adumont So you're saying that it just wasn't supposed to get out?

Expecting a polite disclaimer, I was rather surprised when MarkAtMotorola tweeted this:
@sorensiim @adumont @mastermind278 it was intended but the wording could have been chosen better.

So yeah, "MOD EDIT: DELETED HARD LANGUAGE, but politely" is indeed the official attitude from Motorola towards their customers.
I'll start saving for a Nexus S, then my Defy will be up for sale. Sad, it was a great phone, but having to fight Motorola for control of a phone I PAID IN FULL is just wrong.
Yeah, I'm done. It's really a shame, they've made some good stuff. I'm going to see if I can craigslist my droid 2 and pick up an incredible and won't be going back to moto. Lol, I should've known better!
I agree but I still think that moto don't care about devs coz the vast majority of people who buy mobile phones don't even know what version of android they are on, never mind, whether they have an unlocked bootloader.
unfortunately they will still sell lots of phones
Correct. Not much will change as long as people buy.
I will have to work with the defy for at least a year..I can't afford to keep swapping devices. And I am not so sure about Samsung either. Most likely I will go with HTC for my next device. But at the time the Defy really was the best choice and I can work with it for now.

Don't get me wrong, the Defy is still an awesome phone, but if I wanted a large corporation telling me what to do with the hardware I paid for, I would have bought an iPhone.

This is quite true. Having a rooted android makes me a "computer hacker" according to my friends. They have no idea how to use an android to it's full capability like most people, and will bye Motorola phones because it's a Motorola phone.

++ for sure. Its like I give you 500$ why do you have any right to tell me how I am going to use my device and what for? If I want to use it to make awesome calls or blow up small moons what business is it of Motorola's once they have got their money?

Which of these copy android phones is the best?

Getting a little tired of looking poor .... I guess it's time to retire the old iPhone 4 for the bedroom.but I do not want to get the new iPhone 4S.So I want to try android phones, and wait for iPhone 5.
Anyway, these seem more I can squeeze,Which of these copy android phones is the best?
I went to Best Buy and Target. Can not really tell you a bit of difference between each copy iphone. When the sales guy at Best Buy started telling me that plasma leakage and only last 6 months, I knew it was time to go (Best Buy has always had long 'oh yes, 2/3s of our products are junk, buy this instead of tactical sales approach ... weird, but whatever)
What?

They are all terrible. I'm looking at the specs right now and my LG Optimus beats them all. One is even priced at 200 and you can get a brand new real LG Optimus One for $130. You won't get the full android experience with these crap china phones.
you get what you paid for.
if you want a proper android phone, get ready yo dpend $700

Carden12 I am just going to do my best NOT to be biased nor make myself sound like some salesman or anything. First things first though. As far as what these phones are that are listed here is any ones guess.
What I am saying here is that it might be hard to track down exactly what kind of phone any of these phones you have listed in that link are. Like are any of them made by HTC,Samsung or Sony etc is any ones guess. You also have to realize that it might be hard at that point to actually do anything with the phone. If you do not know what make model what kind of processor they have in them ect.
What I am saying here is you might have problems actually setting a phone like that up.
As far as the guy telling you if you want a good Android phone you would have to pay seven hundred for it I can assure you that is not true at all. It all depends if you want to own the phone outright or if you want to do something like with what I did. I took a promotional offer and I was able to get a seven hundred dollar phone for nothing to use on my carriers plan they were promoting at the time.
If I were you though I would honestly search on google look at reviews on phones ect I just really have been skeptical of buying things from china that have not already been shipped here from a viable company like HTC Samsung Sony ect.
I just do not really know what to tell you other than this as that is honestly with what I did and to not be biased I will not tell you anything about my findings but you waiting for an I Phone honestly search good and hard that is all.

Would we becoming Andro-SHEEPS ?

I was thinking with my buttons if Nexus 4 worth all that praise that people generally have been made. Does it deserve, repay it all?
Since Nexus 4's specs release, there was a lot of questioning, complaining and criticism over it characteristics.
Some persons that consider it-selves rather fair, affirms Nexus 4 is not rather than a upgrade from Galaxy Nexus.
Android Central defends LG Nexus as not just a upgrade from earlier release http://www.androidcentral.com/forums-nexus-4-merely-s-upgrade. Android Central's forums members says oppose.

He almost got killed by other else members.
Then, we need to stop and reflect: Is N4 any kind of mock-up of Galaxy Nexus, plus more ram, better processor and display? Are we becoming Sheeps as Apple Sheeps? Are we being far, and Nexus 4 is really the best word to mean "innovation" and "Powerful", spoke this year?. Better than that, is that enough to state it as UNIQUE or DIFFERENTIATED (as we ever expect an Nexus device should be) ??
Or should we just to not expect this, as Eric, from Android Police said not a long ago http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/05/26/editorial-its-time-to-stop-complaining-because-your-smartphone-isnt-revolutionary/
So what is the true? Who is right? Lets comment, discuss and lets see if we find a deal!
You're right, it is happening. If you've been on The Verge when the Lumia 920 got announced, the amount of Nokia sheeps that came out was ridiculous, thinking that the camera is the best thing in the world, without even trying it for themselves. Then the review comes out, and the camera is good in low light, but in normal day to day pictures, its on par with the rest of the flagship phones.
Were getting the same thing with Android and the Nexus 4. It is still a great piece of hardware, but i hate it when people over-hype things without even holding the thing in their hands.

Maybe this is the point... but inverted!
Customers doesnt give a f* for Nexus Agreement over manufacturer or anything else. Android users makes the ball to roll, if you got what I meant, and what Android users expect from an once-a-year Nexus device is that that phone becomes not only the best release of the year, but that it brings some unique feature. Something that will makes it differentiated from all the rest. And for Google and Partners, if they wont attend the customers demand, Nexus program may goes to fail.

Nexus program will never fail, simply because the business model is different.
you are applying Apple's or Samsung's etc to Nexus just doesn't work.
What differentiated the nexus program since the beginning is having pure android, direct support from Google (software hardware insync)
one anomaly was the LTE GN which was a fake nexus phone, which failed miserably (to sales and to achieve the nexus goals)
Am giving up LTE because simply I don't want to be on a contract, I don't want to be under the mercy of manufacturers and carriers to get updates etc... That's what a Nexus promise. If getting LTE means the opposite am gonna drop the whole Android OS. because simply I want freedom and openness.

Essential up for sale, next phone cancelled

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...hone-maker-essential-is-said-to-consider-sale
shocker
We'll...
Like the stages of grief, I was initially frustrated and upset. After thinking about it for about 3 minutes, just about every possession I own is for sale, for the right price. Go get it Andy!
Kinda sad, was tempted to buy a ph-2. But now I'm happy I'll get a chance to buy a ph-1 when they go on fire sale. It will fit right in with my nextbit Robin.
this was a response from Essential that Android Police received
An official Essential spokesperson responded to our request for comment. Here's what we got:
"We always have multiple products in development at the same time and we embrace canceling some in favor of the ones we think will be bigger hits. We are putting all of our efforts towards our future, game-changing products, which include mobile and home products."

Damm! I've been so looking forward to the new phone! I'm sure it would have been a much bigger success.
(another article about it, based on Bloomberg report https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/24/...ncels-phone-development-considers-sale-report )
So do I buy another backup one as there really doesn't seem to be an alternative.

I was just wondering that myself.. let's hope the support continues for years to come. I have no plans to upgrade. Love my PH-1
I would not count on continued support for very long. You can’t hardly get decent long term support from phone companies that stay in business...
Sad day really. Especially the cancellation of the phone. I really believed the second one was going to get it right. I only had two problems with the phone: Low light performance of the cameras and poor signal strength (mostly indoors)
I don't think it would have been hard to improve in those areas for their next phone. He is giving up to easy.
P.S. won't be buying their other products if this is how it's going to go.
Maybe we need a petition started to give him more confidence.
It is sad, the Essential Phone had such promise. But sometimes in business "Promises" won't pay the staff or the bills. I was looking forward to PH-2, but now I am, I can't believe I am saying this, looking at the iPhone X.
I have use Android phones ,Nexis< from the beginning. Nexus left us in favor of the extremely expensive and hamstrung Pixel, I was really hoping Essential would fill that void, the one thing is the universe is constant "Apple" seems to always keep thing consistent.
Damn I need to call my therapist, its just a fuc____g phone...

Bummed on this one for sure. I've been impressed enough with this phone and especially the support to have considered replacing my wife's aging Nexus 5X with the second generation one (assuming the camera was better than the ph-1).
this feels exactly like what happened to me when Google sold Motorola soon after I bought my 2013 Moto X, which is still my all time fav phone. Google was supporting it (we got KitKat FAST) and then BAM the support was yanked out when the company got sold. I was starting to like this phone almost as much.

Any help rooting or unlocking bootloader on the incredibly unpopular Blu Life One X3?

So, here's my problem:
I bought a Blu Life One X3 late last year since it was on sale for $150 ($100 lower than the current MSRP).
Since it was still a new release, I thought that the modders would come after it eventually, so I just waited it out.
Many months later, there has been little to no word about any sort of root method, it seems like the Life One X3 turned out to be very unpopular.
So far, I have been able to get it into the OEM unlock screen using adb, prompting a press of either of the volume buttons to confirm unlock, only that the volume up button won't do anything, and the volume down just cancels the process.
Any help at all?
Big thanks!
Ferchito
Hi Xiione,
I bought a couple of X3s recently and I was also expecting some development for them already but I only found your thread.
I think there are chances to root the X3 and install customs rooms since it has the same chipset as the BLU Vivo 5 (Chipset Mediatek MT6753, CPU Octa-core 1.3 GHz) and the Vivo 5 has extensive coverage and even kernel sources available. Vivo 5 doesn't have a fingerprint sensor but the BLU Life One X2 Mini has one that I'd be willing to bet is the same as the X3, so drivers may work for it too. This is the route I will follow but I'm only getting started with this stuff so it will probably take a few weeks to get some results.
Hopefully others will join
Cheers
Hey dude!
Glad to see at least one other living human that bought the same phone... good to hear that there might be some hope for this poor device after all.
I'm not so experienced in this area, so there is only so much I can achieve at the moment. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you if any developments arise, I'll do my best to dig around for a solution.

You will not find a one click root for that device. The problem is Blu is still recovery from their security scandal. So most people won't buy their devices.
funny thing is... i don't really consider rooting devices as necessary as it once was (for me). But still... it bugs me to no end i can't get this phone rooted.
I'm having the same problem as the OP.. i'm able to get into fastboot mode, but oem unlock option leads to a dead volume up button which leaves me nowhere. it really is to bad there's so little interest in BLU. they make decent phones at great prices, imo. but i also know they make it very difficult for developers as well.. difficult to get source and such. ...

They are unpopular due to the security issues the company has faced. Not to mention they are just rebranded chinese devices. Which is why sourse is hard to get for them as they dont really make the devices.

I understand the security concerns. However, it's inconceivable that they would not have source, regardless of where the phones come from. If they released the code, more secure versions of the OS could be made available.

It's very common with rebranded Chinese phones. Micromax (and oem in India) had the same issue. The main issue is the oem doesn't release it as it's not required in China. And no it couldn't. The kernel source is only a small part of it.
Best bet is to be more selective with your next device purchase

Well to be honest from your pic of devices 2 things are clear.
1. My shows would be above your station in life.
2. You couldn't afford my shows.
Look you were told all the help you are gonna get over the past year. And yet you keep trying. You know that's the text book definition of of insanity right?
Even if you managed to find the source guess what. Your bootloader is locked and there is no unlock. So if with the code You can do nothing. Not like you would be able to understand it even if you got it I fear.
Just accept that you messed up and move on. We all do it. It's called growing up.
Oh and next time you need help. Mugjt try a support site and not a developers site. But that might be above your head.

You really outdo yourself with every post. I am having a laugh.
But truly I say onto you: you don't understand my choice of devices. You ought to learn to let go and move on when that's the case case. Nobody and I really do mean nobody needs your condescension (read $h*t).

That is a BS excuse. With the internet you can have any device you want. Just save up for it. Its that simple. As for the condescension, you are ready far to much into things. You can get great devices for really cheap these days. I mean even almost good devices like Xiaomi are really cheap.
I was here long before you and ill be here modding devices and building the os for my device long after you are gone.
Let me explain. What happens to you and your device I really couldnt care less about nor does anyone here. It is your problem. Watch the Video if you are confused.

???
Your presumption that I need to save to buy a phone is almost cute.
???
Your blindness to your own condescension is simply sad.
Whatever else you do on xda, you clearly have nothing to contribute to this thread.
