Lost Recognition of Sim card after 5.0.1 Update - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. Did the update to my Shield now my tablet does not recognize my Sim card. Tried same Sim card on my iPad and it works so this means that there is something wrong with my Shield.
By the way my tablet was not rooted, only the bootloader was unlocked. Did the update through the update manager of my tablet and all seemed good until the Sim card issues. Any ideas?

Maybe you flashed a wifi-only ROM ?

This was already a problem in the first Lollipop ota update. I had to factory reset, wipe cache to get the sim to be detected consistently. This was not an issue at all on Kit Kat.
It happens whenever the cellular data is turned off or tablet is in airplane mode for a prolonged period of time.

Will try and wipe cache as well and see what happens

FYI...this still happens on my set from time to time which is currently on Lollipop 5.01

Just got a new Shield Tablet from Nvidia. Nothing I tried with my old one seemed to help. So if this is happening to you, I suggest you call Nvidia.

Same problem here after OTA 2.2. My o2 SIM is not detected anymore. 2.2.1 didn't solve the problem. This tablet is just a piece of crap! Noise from the GPU, GSM noise trough the speakers (well, GSM was working there) and now this. Brilliant work Nvidia, thumbs up!

any solution?? or new info?

I had to turn on data roaming to get it to recognize my Sim, then I had to make my net10 APN twice and then delete both at&t apn's before I got my data/SMS working. I can't guarantee it'll work, but it's something, at least.

Sim card problem? Can't seem to get out of airplane mode.

I'm am currently traveling, international Att service worked fine up until yesterday. I land in Hong Kong and turn of the airplane mode, but cannot get a signal. It's been nearly 24 hours without signal, and every few minutes small pop up and notification noise tells me it's preparing the sim card. In the network settings airplane mode is off, and once in a while it shows that it is "turning off" even though it is still off.
Info: att one X clean room android 4.1 s-off unlocked rooted
haven't done any modifications since April. I've tried restarting , wiping cache, etc.
Also I am unable to lock the sim card in the bootloader
Any help would be appreciated, but I may have to wait for my return trip to the states
Also sorry for any typos I'm typing from my phone

Could be hardware.
I'd try a thick piece of tape on the sim card to force contacts to press firmly.
If that didn't work, I'd RUU.
If that didn't work. It's a hardware issue.
Thanks for the help, here's an update: I took out the sim card, and with no sim card if still has the issue of constantly turning off airplane mode. At this point it looks to be a software glitch or hardware problem.

Ruuing will tell you if it's software or not. If it works after it was software. If not, hardware

Stock JB Update Hosed up my radios?

I was blissfully working just fine on my MZ602 Xoom. I would pop the Micro SIM card out of my phone and into an adapter whenever I wanted to use the Xoom. It worked flawlessly.... that is, until I updated to JellyBean. Now the Xoom will not even SEE a SIM card.
I went to Verizon store today and the guy was about as helpful as diving gear in the sahara. He said you should not be able to pop a phone SIM into a tablet and it works... well that's BS cause I've been doing it for almost 2 years. "Well, then the update must have fixed a bug that allowed you to do that"... no duh sherlock... pop a SIM in from your repository and make sure the things even works still and I'll buy a tablet package. Well, he did and it did the same thing, no connection. "Not under warranty so, sorry man". Thanks for nothing, no I don't want a new tablet!
[/Rant]
I have since flashed the ICS radios and have the same issue. I have tried stock, non stock, rooted, non-rooted, Honeycomb with ICS radios, JellyBean radios.... nothign works, it no longer sees a SIM.
Previously when I popped in a SIM it would take a minute or two and then see signal, sometimes requiring a reboot, now it doesn't even recognize that a SIM was inserted. Before even if it wasn't picking up signal and I removed the SIM it would give a warning "SIM removed, reboot?" or somethign like that.
Currently running CM10.1 with the IMM76I radios. Works on WiFi but will not see any SIM card... am I hosed? Any help?!
Anyone?
How about this... Does anyone here still use their 4G Xoom on the Verizon network?
I plan to steal sim card from my wife ipad and try if I can find my sim adaptor. Will let you know.
I can tell you that my xoom no longer shows 4g network but always did before the update even though the sim card wasn't activated.

Did you use Rogue recovery to flash the radios? TWRP and regular CWM don't flash the radios properly.

Yes, used Rogue to manually flash ICS radios to no avail.
Previous load was 100% stock, unrooted on OEM bootloader and using stock recovery so the JB updated radios original flash was done properly.
I tried the Sim card from wife's iPad and it seemed to work OK. Although it seemed to connect a lot more to the 3g network than LTE and I have very song LTE signal. Radio doesn't seem quite as good as Previous.

Sim issue. Maybe

Woke up this morning and grabbed phone and notice a strange icon between my WiFi and battery icons. No signal, first tried toggling airplane mode, didn't help. Next step was to reboot, didn't help. Next I booted into TWRP and wiped caches, only difference here was I saw the android is optimizing apps 1 of 30 or what ever. Booted back up and still shows no Sim. I have also pulled and reinserted the Sim a few times.
Running Android M stock rooted on Sprint.
Attached a screen shot from in carrier settings. Still shows my imei and basebands so I'm assuming the efs is ok

Same here, the only difference is that I just flashed a custom ROM for the first time on my nexus 5 and found about this issue. I tried DU and CM 12.1 and all of them have this issue. With CM i got data after while with a NO SIM CARD error but it was very slow and only where LTE was available. I went back to stock and data is working again.
Try the sim card in another phone and try someone else's sim card in yours.

Sim works in other phones and whatever Sim I put in nexus isn't detected at all. I've tried T-Mobile and a at&t sim. I have had service reappear twice since this post. And only after shutting down the phone and letting it sit 45 mins to a hour.

This sounds like a hardware issue affecting the SIM card reader. Perhaps try to factory reset or back to Android Lollipop if you like.

Mobile data stopped working, APN is correct.

So just randomly yesterday the mobile data on my Honor 6x just cut out. I am just getting the service signal bars, no 3G, 4G icon. I've tried resetting APN and formatting the phone back to original spec, but I still have the same problem. I also ejected the SIM and reset it just for a shot, but nothing.
I am using a T-Mobile MVNO called TAG Mobile if it makes a difference. I can make calls and text fine, and wifi works as well. Just the mobile data acts like I have it turned off. I've checked to make sure all toggles are switched on for 4G but to no avail.
Oh and I am running Nougat 7.0 emui 5. I've been using it for a couple months with no issues till now.
Can you try another SIM card?! Just to know if the issue is from the phone
I don't have one available right now, but I will try to get a replacement SIM sent out to me. I don't really have anybody near that would let me borrow their SIM either.
Ok, once you do it, let me know the results
Weird, the network came back up randomly. Didn't even need to try a different SIM card. Thanks

Weird network problem - signal drops

Hi everyone,
has any of you ever had network problems, as can be seen in the video?
For a few days now both network connections have been breaking down when I try to make a call. But that doesn't always happen. Sometimes I can make 10 calls in a row and everything is fine, and sometimes nothing works. It doesn't matter which SIM I use to make the call. The problem occurs with both cards. If that happens, then either directly when dialing a number, or immediately after hanging up.
I've never seen anything like this. And I wonder if it's the software, the SIM tray, one of the cards or the network operator itself.
Can anybody please help me? This is quite annoying.
PS: Sorry for the German settings. „Keine SIM-Karte“ = No SIM card // „Dienst nicht verfügbar“ = no service
Clear sim tool kit data
Network reset
Clear system cache
Make sure the access point names are correct

Thanks for the advice, but this didn't help.
I did these 4 steps, but the first time I tried to call, both connections dropped again. Can there be a hardware problem at all? Looks more like a software issue, doesn't it?

The sim card, the usual hardware suspect...
They can be damaged by ESD; handled like a stick of ram.
ESD may not manifest itself for weeks, months even years. Insults are cumulative.
It's not expensive but it is a pain, try to not damage it as it left the plant A-OK.
Just like ram sticks poor handling is the cause of almost all sim card failures.

So, am I getting you right? I just go to the store and have the SIM card replaced and everything should work again?
I've tried a few things now. If I set SIM 2 to GSM, everything is fine. The connection doesn't break. I believe it is the 3G connection. And that's why these crashes could occur when I make calls. SIM 2 doesn't support VoLTE, so it switches to 3G.
EDIT: I've tried different things now. I swapped SIM 1 and 2 back and forth. I also used my two SIM cards alternately with a third SIM card. The problem persists. Could a hard reset help or should I send the device for repairs straight away?
Same problem here. Setting sim 1 to GSM only, and sim2 to LTE fixed my problem for a while. This has something to do with dual sim handling.

This is soooo anoying. Have you had this problem for a long time or did it only come recently? Could this have something to do with a recent update?
I bought the phone a month ago, and while I was setting it up it received 5 updates including android 11. So I have no experience prior to Android 11.

Damn, same here.
Have you tried cleaning the sim cards with rubbing alcohol?
Then put them back without touching the metal contacts.

No, I don't see any point in doing that. I swapped the SIM cards and even tried other cards and the problem was still there. If something had to be cleaned, it would be the SIM tray. But as already written, there are no disconnections when a SIM is operated in 2G. I think that rather means that it is a software problem.

I have this same problem with phone dropping off the network. For me it started after the first Android 11 update. I have full signal levels at home but if I try to make a call signal level for both sim cards drops and I get a message that mobile network is not available. Doesn't happen always but pretty often.
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with how the phone handles dual-sim operations...

I am glad, I am not the only one, who is facing this problem. I already thought, I have to send my phone back. So, we have to wait for a fix.
Must be patient. There is also bluetooth problem(disconnecting from devices). It looks like they were too fast with android 11.
Since the last update(.159), i also have the drop out problem. Starting to feel sorry for buying it...
So, let's hope the new .222 update, which has just arrived, will fix this.
EDIT: no, it doesn't.

Yeah, I even had to restart after the update, in order for the second SIM to become active...
Edit - and the problem is even worse. Almost after every incoming call I lose signal to both sims...
Edit II - I wanted to try to switch sim 2 to gsm only network, and noticed that there's 5G available for it too, after the update. Before that there wasn't such an option....

Since I use the second SIM only for business calls, I have already set it to GSM only. Today I noticed that I still have outages. So apparently to force 2G is no longer of any use. :/
About 5G: It has been active on my device since I got it. Perhaps there was an update on this from your carrier.
