Hi! I have an Xperia E dual (C1604) and i'm with this problem, everytime i look the phone have only 90~30MB of free RAM!So every eight hours must restart the phone! I'm using the Experia Black Edition ROM, greenify in all my apps (except the launcher and keyboard), and i'm having problems to acess big sites and play hard games because of this problem. Can someone help me?
Hello.
No one can exactly predict the problem/culprit without further information. But i think you should start with looing up, which apps or services is exactly taking the RAM. It would be a nice idea to try this app, [Startup Manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.startupmanager&hl=da], and remove some startup items and see if the problem persists.

In either way you wont be able to play high end games since its a low ram device i had the exact device but i threw it out the window and got a better phone suggest you doing that + more ram wont give you anything since the cpu and gpu is really really crap. so if you dont need to play games and just dont want the system to lag i suggest installing Android LimeOs 1.1 or 1.12 since its very very light weight i have
xperia go and another phone on xperia go it has 512 ram and with lime os there is about 200-100 mb left
thats the limit of free ram cuz the system rezerves about 300 mb

this was the first thing i made when i installed the ROM and the apps.
Guys, my problem is, after hours, my android become slow, and without free RAM, i installed the "watchdog" app, and i saw, all memory is consumed by system apps (some are necessary, some not) and Whatsapp closes, my Launcher (smartlauncher 2) closes too, and it's pissing me off!

I have had my Nexus S since Christmas. I love it! It is my 5th Android phone and by far the best, up until a couple of days ago I had not experienced any lag at all with the phone.
However recently the phone has been laggy, the back button seems to get stuck (with the backlight off) and it is starting to get unresponsive.
I am trying to work out what is wrong and I wonder if I have installed too many apps... I have >100 including lots of games. Almost all are installed to the SD card.
Could this be the cause of my problems?
Why would anyone install 100 game? I have well let me look hold.
1min later 423 games on SD thats close to 1.91gb but I only install 2-3games and when I finish I install another. Also your problem is you don't have BS service disabled which you should do and make sure they don't restart after shutdown on boot.
To be fair, of the >100 apps, i would say 30 are games
What is BS Service and how can I stop apps from starting automatically after reboot?
Huh Samsung failed again as Google supported them supplying folks with 512mb ram in 2011 talk about still unofficial stand on post mid2010 standard for new 2011 era. You wish you had that extra bit of ram now didn't ya
Anyways well you can use apps like Autostarts or Startup Auditor to disable service on boot/fc on restart. BS service lol well I think you know what "BS" means just disable anything you don't need which may be diff from person to person which is only what you know.

i'll not be surprised at all, as i have just well over 377 apps/games installed
games usually take most of the space, as it needs to download additional files from the net
i have to constantly keep deleting stuff to make space for more games / apps
i'll say 70% of my space is utilized by games, and 30% by apps
in which they are both shared by MP3 collection and MTV clips collection, as there is simply not enough space for movies

Do you find that the performance of your phone has reduced as you have added more apps/games?

nope
i have 4 screen of widgets in the launcher desktop
and the only thing i would consider lag (because all the apps were moved to SD) is the ICON loading time, but it doesn't slowdown the launcher, it just shows with the default green AOS icon instead of the pretty ones
using GO Launcher EX as my default, more features than LauncherPRO / ADW yet faster and FREE!
same with GO SMS
both offers great skin capabilities, and lots of FREE themes (skins) to download
Generally, lag is a result of a poorly coded app sucking your processing power down the drain.
I have uninstalled a load of apps and everything is now running smoothly again.
Just need to figure out which one is causing the problem now...
Thanks guys
Why do I get such low RAM?
On my Sensation I get around 160 MB free with no apps running. On my iPhone 4 with 512 ram I got around 330 MB~ with everything closed.
I disabled sense and uninstalled some bloatware yet that doesn't seem to help. What's hogging my memory???

if you have a trawl through all the information in XDA (Painful i know) you will see that its no bad thing to have things in RAM. Android works differently to iOS and Windows and works best when its applications are held in RAM.
It will also auto-kill your apps when it needs to and so you dont need an task killer. in fact, using a task killer can use more battery and slow your phone down - If you kill something that doesnt want killing it will re-open and use battery and resources doing so.
Thanks

Sense is not just one app, it's built into the entire rom, so you haveany things that get loaded into ram, even though you can't see them.
Plus, android likes to actually use free ram, since unused ram is wasted ram. There are some kernel memory settings that will cache apps in the memory for quick access, and when you load an ap that needs a lot of ram, say a game, it'll close some least used cached apps until there is enough free space, and when you close out of the game, it loads those apps back into memory when they are called again.

My razr maxx hd has been sluggish. When I checked running apps I found that sometimes it uses ALL available ram. The most free I ever see is about 38.
Is this normal? Any suggestions to improve performance?

It's normal for Android. It manages memory differently to Windows. Do some googling about Android memory management. What you need to look for is apps that are using CPU when they should be "asleep". An app like Android Assistant will allow you to look at that. Any app that's using more than, say, 1% cpu when it's not being used isn't playing ball and you should probably kill it. If it continues to do it, I would be removing the app.
Hope that helps
i think this is enough for your simple use , if you want to play games then not
I've seen that answer a lot, about how Android handles memory. Admitadley I haven't done any specific googling myslef. I have, however, observed how my my Linux boxes have handled it and after looking at the image posted I truly am going to be Googling Android specifically because it seems to me that it should free up memory before it gets to the point of the screenshot; can you imagine what the swap file looks like because it makes me wonder if it isn't full, assuming its a compressed RAM swap, and spilling over as a file on the card as well when things might be better already freed up at this point. If it was a desktop then I'd understand, but its a phone and you want a smooth experience out of it as much as can be provided. Its one thing to say "Learn how Android uses RAM" but I sure hope you do when you say it. As for me, I'll stop there and say that I really genuinley intend to find out (have the google search bookmarked for free time) because I know that my phone lags at times before it gets even close to what's posted, that I've never seen it get to what's posted, and that these setting can be easily changed on a rooted device... and that based upon experience with my previous Android that sported way more bloatware but a lot less lag, I've long been wondering if the settings could be just a little better. Usually its not a good idea to second guess the manufacturer but at the same time, a small change in a value can go a long way at times. Not saying you're wrong to say so, just saying that I hope you gave the answer as a person who genuinely understands for themselves and aren't just repeating others, lobie81.
All that said though, and knowing that my phone's ROM is supposed to be one of the more carrier bloat free varieties, what little I can see of the running services suggest that he might have a lot of things going that could be better handled by one process, like sticking it all in Tasker however that's a bold assumption based on a small portion of what's available to be seen.
Hi there devs,
Rcently my friend told me about a rom for their fone which gave total ram as free, the developers of the rom developed some tweak to do that
here's the link: http://www.living-optimus.com/2013/07/p350-tweak-para-liberar-ram.html ,
i just think this might help G3 development. Posting this is Dev section coz its kinda important stuff and needs to catch a few eyes.
here the result they got

Total free ram. Is that even possibly?
Nevertheless, Looks like some build prop tweak. Trying it right away.
Is it worth to have so much free ram? It is said that unused ram is wasted or am I mistaken?

More RAM = more multitasking, apps won't get closed as often if system is running out of RAM.
not total free ram...maybe the core applications are provided different portion of the total ram ...dunno what just guessin
I think u are right aarun. maybe the system is pre-allotted some portion of the ram. And the rest may be given to the user apps. But this can b a bad idea cos if the system may want more RAM like on first boot or sth there may be problems. Sometimes even the system gives away some part of its RAM usage when some apps require it. But in this case of partitioning the RAM this may not be possible. Lets see though what this mod has to offer.....
There are three tweaks there which one should i pick? If this really works i won't buy a new phone next year!
@aarrun
can u upload build.prop and system.prop files from ur friends phone and xda link of the rom ur friend is using.

OK, i translated the page and the real tweak is the fourth. I tried it on my phone and RAM got optimized a little (i have 54 applications installed and normally i get 40-50 Mb of free RAM now i'm getting 100-110 MB of free ram). This evening i will try the other improvements too!
I am on CyanogenMod Alpha9 MTD and here's my build.prop.
Always do a Nandroid backup and build.prop backup before trying this stuff.
awesome!!!! Its really working!

I did a data wipe to test if i really could get total RAM free but the maximum of RAM free i could obtain was 152 MB
Is the tweak really working?
So I now have a Moto G 4G and previously had a Moto G dual sim and a s3 mini, all with 1GB of ram...
However, there is something seriously wrong with the ram on the moto G... The minfree is set to 300 MB and the phone gets to that point as a constant after about 2-3 days, making everything redraw worse than my optimus one...
I attached some screenshots...
Also, my cousin's nexus 4, with 2 gigs of ram, heavily bloated with useless background running apps by him, always has 1.5 gigs free ram... Can anyone figure this out? Is this happening in custom ROMs too?

I have a Moto G 3G and I didn't face the issue you're pointing out at all. Are you using some kind of task killers or memory management apps? In case you do stop using them and let Android the way is ment to be working. You didn't mention anything in particular so my advice, for now, is reset it from recovery and see what appens. Good luck!

No task killer, and resetting doesn't work, did that a lot of times on the 3G version... Even changed firmwares... Always the same.
My problem is that chrome treats tabs as background processes, so when I run low on ram, they close even when on foreground....

I'm running greenify in boost mode only, no task killers, along with a ton of kids games, on my kids' moto g.
Some games will only play one time, and have to have data cleared to be playable again as restarting or clearing cache doesn't work.
Some other games are extremely laggy, or have frequent freezes/pauses in the middle of playing, or the touch becomes unresponsive.
Watching videos in youtube works fine for about 4 or 5 videos before they start to get choppy or it'll just crash back to homescreen.
It happened on stock rooted.
It's happening on newest Gummy.
I seriously have no idea what to do to fix this, and just told the kids to deal with it.
