I think for solution you can wait for beta 4.
Currently only way to fix it as follow:
In your wifi settings, goto advance and select frequency band of your wifi as per your router.
By default it'll be automatic, change it to 2.4 or 5 GHz as per your router's frequency.

Anyone else lose the ability to connect to 2.4ghz wifi?
I Can only connect to 5ghz wifi.
I tried with sense and CM roms
Tried all types of security setting on router it also does not work on any 2.4 I seen anymore
I can see the 2.4 ghz connections somtimes even if i am right next to the router
I am thinking its a hardware problem if anyone else had problem and fixed it let me know please.

Which Rom are you on?
If you are on CyanogenMod (or AOSP) you can select settings, select WIFI, then select advanced (there is a three dot menu at the bottom right), next there is a menu item for WIFI frequency band (mine is in AUTO). You can select Auto, 5 GHz, or 2.4 GHz.
I would need to flash another Rom to check out the settings but I remember them being slightly similar.
Give it a go.
I tried that still same won't connect to 2.4

There are a few threads concerning this issue. If you dig around there might be a fix. This thread ended successfully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539061&highlight=2+4+ghz
I already check all the forums nothing like mine the access points appear and disappear and when i try to connect to the 2.4 it disappears again
I know it is a lonnnngggg time after your post but I have a phone that has the same issue. (HTC One Evita). It can see 2.4GHz networks but when you try connect the network then becomes out of range. Did you ever have any luck with this issue?
Hi,
like in subject is our N5 supporting wifi roaming/changing access point based on signal strength? I have two access points with the same SSID but on different channels. My laptop is switching between AP from upstairs and downstairs and iPhone 4S I had before N5 was switching too. Unfortunatly Nexus is not... Is it supported by our phone or not? Is it at all supported by Android OS?
BTW I wanted to ask another thing related with wifi. I changed wifi option "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Never" but it's not turning off when I put my phone in to sleep. How long does it take to turn of wifi after locking phone? Could you check Is this option working for you guys?
Thanks for all answers, Zibiksior
Anyone?

hello and sorry to be late but i didn't actually had nothing to say but i'd had the same issue.
Yesterday frustrated by the roaming not working i tried to set wifi network frequency on n5 wifi advanced settings to 2.4ghz only and volià, wifi romaing seems to work correctly: as i change the room n5 suddenly changes ap without loosing connection.
can anyone confirm?

I will check it today at the evening and report back.
EDIT. Nope its's not working for me. @Riekr what Rom are you using?
Sent from awesome Nexus 5
Stock ROM, anyway I'll check further as it seems to switch from one ap to another but not vice versa. Please also check that all parameter are the same except the channels (as per specs) and that the channels does not overlap with WiFi analyser (to improve performance)

Yes I have the same configuration. The same ssid and pass in both AP's. Only chennels are different and not overlapping also. I'm using now purity rom with Linaro kernel.
Did you manage to fix this? I'm having the same issue.

That option does work and will switch over to your data connection when the phone is asleep. There is an option in the WiFi settings called "scanning always available" which will prevent the WiFi chip from ever truly disabling itself however.
From what I can tell my Nexus 5 changes fine, however I have only tested it on the same router.
I believe "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Never" only turns the Wi-Fi off if there is not an active connection currently using data, otherwise things would get dropped packets, etc. Correct me if i am wrong though.
Hey guys,
Flashed stock 5.0 on my nexus 5 using TWRP.
After the device booted up, i noticed it could only connect to 5ghz wifi networks and not 2.4ghz.
Any ideas why this is occurring?
Cheers
Same here
Yeah strange. I'll try re-install the stock ROM and see if I notice anything different..
Yes, exactly the same problem here. Funny thing is that I can see the network, but can't connect.
EDIT: So it seems there are multiple issues, found some bug reports related to what I'm experiencing:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=78702
https://code.google.com/p/android-developer-preview/issues/detail?id=1548
https://code.google.com/p/android-developer-preview/issues/detail?id=1620
Oh ok, I can't even see them. Do you get an error, or the phone just refuses to connect with an error msg?
On WLAN Settings there is a Menu called Advanced
There you can select if 2,4 GHz, 5,0 Ghz or automatically both.
Maybe after putting automatically you see them both?
I seet the WLAN, can put password, but it tries to connect and then stops connecting and always tries to reconnect from time to time...
Thanks guys! I worked it out. My routers 2.4ghz band was on channel 13, I changed it to 7 and it showed up. Don't understand why it couldn't see it before, but now it works! Hooray! Cheers!
If you're having troubles guys, try to tweak the channel on your router

And what if your network at work has above 11?
Then you can't do sh**... Seriously Google
Yeah, WiFi in 5.0 is major screw up. There are at minimum 3 major issues:
- 2.4 GHz band channels above 11 unusable
- https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=78702 (or https://code.google.com/p/android-developer-preview/issues/detail?id=1548 reported on developer preview)
And then there was that excessive power consumption related one - supposedly responsible for the 5.0 release delay.
Hi
It is really weird, but my home WiFi network isn't recognized by my OPO.
It recognized and working on multiple devices other than the OPO.
It's not matter of reception since I'm standing right next to the router.
There is nothing special about the network, it is not hidden or anything.
Is this a known issue ?
Thanks !

Goto settings - Wifi - advanced and check that your Wifi frequency band is set to auto, might be your home Wifi is on a frequency currently disabled on your phone.
Hope that helps.

It wasn't that, BUT you led me to find the issue.
My WiFi channel was set to 12, which I remembered to be "special region" channel.
I've changed the channel to 8, and it all works fine now!
Thanks !

After updating to MIUI 12.0.1.0(QJKEUXM) there are sporadic WLAN reconnects (8 to 10 per day) and only when the device is in screen-off state for some time.
In addition, there is a folder "ramdump" that fills up continuously with files like
ramdump_wlan_2020-08-03_20-48-05.elf and
ramdump_wlan_2020-08-03_20-48-05_dmesg.log
for every reconnect.
This folder now contains 358 files with 2.54 GB of ramdumps!!!
It started all with the MIUI 12 update. The first ramdump file has a date right after installing MIUI 12. On MIUI 11 Wifi was fine.
I tried every setting (Wifi Manager on/off, disable IPV6, fixed IP, fixed channels, etc.), but the problem remains.
Could you please check, if you also see ramdumps from wifi on your device and report back here?
It would be awesome to know, whether I am the only one with this problem. In that case, I would go through the hassle of a hard reset. Otherwise, I would just wait for another MIUI update...
Thanks.
The folder ramdump exists in my device but it's empty.
I didn't notice any WiFi disconnection. In MIUI 11 5G WiFi networks suddenly disappears but seems to be fixed in MIUI 12.
BTW, when you said "disable ipv6" you did it in your router or in the device? (I don't know how to do it in the device).

I did this on the router. I don't think there is a setting on the device itself.
And thank you for checking on your device, appreciated.
As you said that disconnections happens when device is screen-off maybe the problem is related with a kind of Power Saving option. Check if you have any WiFi Power Saving option active in your router.
For instance, in my router I have disabled "RX Chain Power Save" in both WiFi bands (2.4G and 5G). I have also disabled the Ethernet Power Management options, but I think it should not be related to your problem.
Good luck.
My router only has Power Management options for LAN, but not for WLAN.
I am on a combined mode 2.4 GHz/5 GHz on a single SSID. I could separate both to end up with separate SSIDs for each frequency. This is the only setting, I did not try yet.
Just to let you know. I found a solution:
In my router, I changed wifi encryption from "WPA+WPA2" to " WPA2 CCMP" and the problem is solved.
Weird though that this setting never made any problems before, not with my old phones and not with MIUI 11.
Having exactly the same problem except changing WiFi encryption doesn't solve it. Is there anyone else with this issue?
I need to turn off WiFi6 and all problems are gone.
I used to have the same problem on a OnePlus device, and this was the reason:

If it starts to drop out again, split the SSIDs.
