Hello all, hopefully I'm not posting in the wrong place for this.
Been reading up on rooting the Droid charge as I have never rooted a phone before and want to try my hand at this phone as it can't be used as a wifi device because it automatically tries to connect to Verizon for setup.
The hope is not just to get that piece usable but then I'd be comfortable rooting my galaxy s4. Ten I would feel confident rooting the S5s my lady are getting, as well as the galaxy tab s 10.5 I was gifted.
Have downloaded App backup and Easy backup. Will these save the stock rom for un rooting for device return at time of upgrade? Any preference folks?
Will update as anything progresses. Have Odin and Samsung kies etc downloaded as well. Will watch and read through instructions several more times to maximize chance of success.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Search for the "four corners" tap sequence that bypasses the activation. Charge works fine as a wifi device.

Last week I rooted my primary phone, a Samsung Admire with Gingerbread 2.3.4. This was done only after successfully rooting my older LG Optimus T running Fryo. I had no trouble with either phone during the process. However, as of 2 days ago the Admire has had some troubles, namely that the phone function crashes when I press the send key. I get the error message stating “Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” It will receive incoming calls but they cannot be answered and when I try, it crashes
I’ve spent much of the time since researching the problem to find the cause and it’s fix. In doing d\so I have read of multiple causes from screen resolution changes to attempted over clocking, which I have played with. I’ve read that there might be problems with the phones attempting to switch from 2g to 3g too rapidly, something this phone cannot do I believe.
I came to the conclusion, probably erroneously, that I needed to reset it back to factory and then reinstall apps and data out of the backup I made using Titanium Backup prior to the phones troubles. So I did so, doing the three button cocktail I’ve read about here on XDA Forums. After doing this, the problem persists. I’ve read some more becoming more baffled as I went along. So I tried to reroot the phone using one click root, and that was unsuccessful as well, no root. I then read that all I needed to do was to install Superuser from the Market. In attempting this I found my device was no longer recognized by Market and after going through their troubleshooting process it’s still unrecognized, Next I decided, also most likely erroneously to reset the phone again using the three button combo as before. This time I noticed at the bottom of the screen written in yellow, E: File is written: not updated
Also as a side note my phone currently says that there are 133MB available and after the reset(s) my bloat ware has not returned,
So that’s it. I seem to have deleted something that kills the phone app and prevents me from rooting. Other than those two things the phone is working well. However as it sits it’s merely a small Internet tablet with no phone capability. Can anyone help me out with this? And yes, I have read and read and read about it but clearly this is beyond my ability to fix on my own.
Thanks,
Zeke
Hey, my skill level ranges between beginner and intermediate, but honestly in a situation like that I would odin back to stock. I have an epic 4g, so I have no idea what your download mode is or if you have one or if you have to use quick boot or fast boot? Its one of those. If **** ever hits the fan on me (Thank god it hasn't yet) I would odin to an old stock rom and root it and install a recovery and wipe and flash a ROM. Good luck I hope I helped and didn't sound like too much of a scrub.

Help would be appreciated
I have the same phone dude its simple, search threw here (in the i9000 section ,first you'll need to root it with Odin, after you have root go to market and download Samsung galaxy unlock and follow the steps and your done.
*very important once your rooted make a copy of your efs folder(contains your imei number)it can/will change depending on if you flash roms.*

Hi everyone,
I am writing this post out of some need: I really just am not capable of the rooting process. I'm plenty savvy enough, and have used computers intensely for almost 30 years. I understand the benefits and risks of rooting, have rooted phones before, but have never delved too deeply.
I am also physically disabled, and the endless simultaneous button presses, unplugging and plugging, and on and on, make rooting an activity that I just can't easily keep up with.
I own two Samsung phones: a Note 3, and a Mega, both from AT&T. I rooted the Mega easily, and was really enjoying it until one day the yellow triangle with the unauthorized software on system message appeared - I had not attempted to flash a custom ROM, so I'm not sure what is wrong. I bought the Note 3 from a friend who had flashed Knoxraid onto the phone to then decide he didn't like it. He removed root, thinking that would return him to stock. Which it didn't, of course. I have tried rooting the phone again to no avail.
I would just like to have both phones rooted and in good working order. I don't much care about flashing ROMs. Given a good launcher like Nova, apps like Wanam and Greenify, and a few others, I find my needs are well met.
Can anyone help me?
did you try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53406788&postcount=1
its a one click app for root.
Is there somewhere that has a working guide on how to reliably root a brand new Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T810 on 5.1.1?
About a month ago I bought an S2 tablet (9.7", Wifi) and immediately set about rooting it using xda-developers.com. Many years ago I rooted a couple HTC phones because I was having terrible battery performance but never found the need to do the same on my S3 or S5 phones, so I'm a little out of date on the tools and processes. Apparently jumping back in at 5.1.1 was poor timing. I spent half the day using the information in this forum and what else I could piece together to try and get the root to work but eventually got frustrated and stopped. I spent several more hours trying to jump back in at the same place and have been unable to get this to work. I don't have the windows open from all the places I've been, but I've seen a lot of people seeming to report they're having difficulties as well, but that's when the thread just stops and I can't tell if they found some magic to help them out or where I'm struggling.
This website has grown considerably since the last time I was trying to use it as a resource, and I'm either searching for the wrong things or am making mistakes out of frustration. My route has seemed circular, to paraphrase: I don't remember what or how many bootloaders I've tried, my device won't root. I tried using Odin to instead load TWRP, but it also won't install that. I've seen the suggestion to downgrade to 5.0.2 and using a different set of tools, I can work my way to rooted and back to whatever ROMs I want, but then I see conflicting information that I can't just downgrade to 5.0.2, don't see an obvious location of a ROM to even do that with. I don't even know if I'm looking in the right area of the forums.
Hi,
Please check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/general/guide-root-tab-s2-t3205019
If that doesn't help you, you could try asking for help here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/help

Hello to you all and thanks in advance for your patience... for most of you this may be "stupid" but I have so many doubts and I don't want to end up with a "Samsung Brick" on my hands.
1.- Device: Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 SGH-I497 (AT&T) running Android 4.1.2 Base Band I497UCMF3 Build JZO54K.I497UCBMF3
2.- Background: Bought it new from AT&T and had it with wireless service with them for 3 years... ended the wireless service and kept using it as a WiFi only device. while it was still under contract it updated firmware a couple of times till it got to 4.1.2 since then when you check for updates always tells me "Current Software is up to date" that has been for the last 2 years pretty much.
Needles to say it keep running slower and slower at time passes by and newer versions of apps don't run as it should. Of course I have the "infamous" AT&T pre-loaded apps that I don need in it.
SEPARATE ISSUE: For sometime now it's working fine, then it tries to load something and stay like "buffering" and nothing goes forward... I found that have to manually disconnect from the WiFi and connect again and it starts working again. Rest of ten devices at home (Phones, Tablets, Playstaion, etc...) don't have problems.
3.- I have heard for years now about rooting and the PRO's and CON's of it... after some reading I feel that if done correctly that is my better choice to give some new and better life to my "entertainment pal" but same reading confuses a bit out of me between options and which ones works which one doesn't and which one is the right for me.
4.- I have found here this: https://www.xda-developers.com/root-and-recovery-for-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1/ that then takes me to this original thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
Is this still the right way for me ??? I never updated (or used) via KIES it was always on wifi.
Any pointers suggestions and "Dumb and Dumber" step by step guide will be really appreciated.
