[Q] com.Android.phone crashes after root Samsung Admire - General Questions and Answers

Last week I rooted my primary phone, a Samsung Admire with Gingerbread 2.3.4. This was done only after successfully rooting my older LG Optimus T running Fryo. I had no trouble with either phone during the process. However, as of 2 days ago the Admire has had some troubles, namely that the phone function crashes when I press the send key. I get the error message stating “Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.” It will receive incoming calls but they cannot be answered and when I try, it crashes
I’ve spent much of the time since researching the problem to find the cause and it’s fix. In doing d\so I have read of multiple causes from screen resolution changes to attempted over clocking, which I have played with. I’ve read that there might be problems with the phones attempting to switch from 2g to 3g too rapidly, something this phone cannot do I believe.
I came to the conclusion, probably erroneously, that I needed to reset it back to factory and then reinstall apps and data out of the backup I made using Titanium Backup prior to the phones troubles. So I did so, doing the three button cocktail I’ve read about here on XDA Forums. After doing this, the problem persists. I’ve read some more becoming more baffled as I went along. So I tried to reroot the phone using one click root, and that was unsuccessful as well, no root. I then read that all I needed to do was to install Superuser from the Market. In attempting this I found my device was no longer recognized by Market and after going through their troubleshooting process it’s still unrecognized, Next I decided, also most likely erroneously to reset the phone again using the three button combo as before. This time I noticed at the bottom of the screen written in yellow, E: File is written: not updated
Also as a side note my phone currently says that there are 133MB available and after the reset(s) my bloat ware has not returned,
So that’s it. I seem to have deleted something that kills the phone app and prevents me from rooting. Other than those two things the phone is working well. However as it sits it’s merely a small Internet tablet with no phone capability. Can anyone help me out with this? And yes, I have read and read and read about it but clearly this is beyond my ability to fix on my own.
Thanks,
Zeke

Hey, my skill level ranges between beginner and intermediate, but honestly in a situation like that I would odin back to stock. I have an epic 4g, so I have no idea what your download mode is or if you have one or if you have to use quick boot or fast boot? Its one of those. If **** ever hits the fan on me (Thank god it hasn't yet) I would odin to an old stock rom and root it and install a recovery and wipe and flash a ROM. Good luck I hope I helped and didn't sound like too much of a scrub.

HD2 on Android keeps rebooting/restarting itself..possible fix?

Hi, This is my first time posting so please forgive me for any czar-like posting rules I may have violated. I think that I have found a resolution for hd2 on android rebooting/restarting problems that many of us face or have faced. Before you jump on blaming motherboard like Dear HTC Repair ppl did in my case, please try these steps.
I have recently got my second hd2 and installed Android naturally and almost immediately after setting up the device, I noticed that the phone started to reboot itself. And this happened all day for at least 6-10 times everyday. At first I thought it was a new feature of the latest android roms to fix and upgrade or boost performance. But the rebooting never stopped for a day. Secondly I thought I must have installed it incorrectly and so followed all procedure again from task29 to CWR cautiously but NO LUCK! Then I did multiple searches on xda and other forums and followed every suggestions and possible problems like battery cable/pin straightening, task29....formatting changing microsd card...blah blah blah....no fix!!! Then I called HTC and they concluded that the motherboard gotta be replaced for only $175...yeah ok I got my phone for $150. Someone at HTC forgot to take math in HS.
Anways...long story short try what I did....if you face constant restart issues after installing android...and hope for the best. It won't hurt to try. I am not a developer nor a software/hardware engineer and I don't have any technical explanation for this with fancy acronyms. All I know that it worked on not just one phone but two phones as I bought another used phone on ebay after HTC tried to rob me off $175. And this one too gave the same reboot/restart problem after I installed android.
So, here is what I did and don't ask me why it worked not cuz I don't know....it just what I did and it worked in both phone and never restarted ever again
-DO NOT do task29 EVER...no offense to the developer. If you have done it already then just don't do it again.
-Install/reinstall fresh official stock tmobile WM6.5 rom only. DO NOT install custom rom. Reboot normally and do the minimal setup since you are about to install android on it anyway.
-DO NOT play with Radio versions. Stick to the one official tmobile rom has installed for you. Although I think even if you change the radio it will be ok.
-DO the steps for hspl, magldr113 etc as usual
-Now this is what I think is the crucial part...If you have partitioned or planning to partition your microsd card with cache then DO NOT use any CWR recovery partition with cache....totally avoid 150M-5m cache formats just use 150M...200M....250M etc without cache...again I don't know why but it worked for me.
-Now do a wipe data/system and install the android rom of your choice. It should never restart again. Mine did not!!! GOOD LUCK!
This is what I did when my both phones were starting all day and it worked on both. They never reboot by themselves ever. They both were restarting all day at least 6-10 times. On my first phone I thought the motherboard or may be the battery cable was gone, then went on to get a second phone. The problem was on the second phone as well after I installed android. I was sure that it would be too much of a coincidence that both phones have bad motherboards and therefore started playing with them in various combinations of rom installation procedure, sd card, battery...you name it..then came across this steps and it worked for me. I hope it works for you. Please note that if the problem is hardware then it can't be resolved by doing this.
I hope it works for you. I know how frustrating it is to have a phone that is constantly rebooting on its own all day.
To those who will question my solution...again refer to the previous notes. I did it and it worked on my two phones...and another advice for you.....Sometimes you don't have to know quantum physics to tie a secure knot that saves life
It would be much more helpful if you could post a link to a recovery without cache as you posted. I cannot find one thus far.
What instructions are you reading for installing the Android OS? I don't think I saw task29 anywhere on the instructions I saw. I have the FR0X7 version, and mine does this constantly & then drains the battery, so I am desperate for a solution.

Is my Samsung Infuse DEAD?

Hey, guys. Hoping some of you experts can help me diagnose what's wrong with my Samsung Infuse. I bought it off Craigslist at the end of May, and the guy had the phone with the original screen protector on it, with the original case and all accessories, so I had no reason to believe it had any problems. He told me the phone was already rooted & unlocked, which I wanted since I signed up with Straight Talk. I used it for June & July and had a host of problems, so I put on the CM10 ROM last week to see if it helped. It didn't. Here are the problems I continuously encounter:
1. When going to unlock my phone with a pattern, once in awhile it won't detect my finger-presses. Sometimes nothing shows up at all, sometimes one of the dots will highlight as I pass over it, but it won't draw. Eventually the screen turns off, and I turn it on and try it again. Usually it ends up working.
2. The battery dies much quicker than I expect it should. I tried running JuiceDefender and not running JuiceDefender, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Even without using my phone much for anything, even with the screen off, the battery will run out before the day is out. It's like if you were driving and had a hole in your tire... seems like some sort of a leak.
3. The cell radio seems flaky. Sometimes I won't get texts on time. A lot of the time I can't access any data, which is very important as I use Google Voice for lots of my texting, so I send a text and it won't go out. Loading web pages or reloading my email shows that it is a data problem.
Those are the primary problems, and I suspect that somehow they are all related. I'm not sure if the Craigslist guy sold me a lemon, or there is some other problem that came up. I've tried multiple ROM's and disabling every app I can think of. Can anyone think of anything that would cause these problems & any way to fix it? Or do I just own a broke phone that I have to throw in the garbage?
Thanks in advance for reading!
a whole slew of problems can lead to a whole slew of possibilities for your issues.
first, i wasnt aware that you could do any of this on a straight talk phone, but i could be wrong. i am not the "expert" you may be looking or hoping for, though one i am sure will show up.
second, i think the response you may get is......did you go to JB straight from Gingerbread??? that will cause HUGE problems.
dd you read OP and follow to a tee??? again HUUUUGGEE problems.
the "never fail" here.....READ READ READ. feel confident as to what you are doing and follow steps one at a time. UNDERSTAND steps one at a time.
first thing that never hurts.....return to stock and start from scratch.

if that doesnt work, you might have to get some mortar, you've got yourself a BRICK.
i know almost everyone else here is more of a expert than i am, but i do believe that is where they will tell you to start
good luck and be sure and thank the experts

While I have no idea what you're getting at by your Straight Talk comment, as ST is little more than AT&T service that's sold through a 3rd party at a discounted rate, the fact that he's using ST may be part of his problems, at least in regards to the network issues. I'm also having an unbelievable amount of data issues on ST. ST is having some network problems that are affecting a decent amount of customers who are on their AT&T network.
One thing that the OP may want to try is this: Download DNS Changer from the Play Store, and change your primary and secondary DNS to OpenDNS1 and OpenDNS2. Or try different settings, as there are a bunch that are available. That has made at least some difference with my data connectivity issues.
Based on my own experience, having tried to go to JB directly from GB, is that if it's going to affect your radio, it's likely to completely wipe out your EFS data so you won't have ANY cellular or data networking capabilities. As stated, that's simply based on how it worked out for me, and there could easily be other side-effects that just didn't happen to show up for me.
I agree with returning completely to stock UCLB3, with the GB bootloaders. Then flash Entropy's 4.4.2012 Kernel, which will also install CWM Recovery. I'd personally reccomend Heimdall, as it seems to be somewhat simpler. Detailed information on returning to stock via Heimdall can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079&highlight=heimdall+uclb3
If you use it, be sure to thank qkster for making it available. He's probably the most helpful person you're likely to find on this forum, especially where us noobs are concerned.
I would take it back to stock and start all over.
Here is a very helpful thread.

I agree with parrot head. When issues arise go back to stock. That's the best part of our phones. They are damn near impossible to really mess up. Just have to be ware of bootloader flash going wrong. If you got your gb rom from keis your good to go though.

Appreciate the response, guys. I guess it doesn't hurt to try to start from scratch... AGAIN! It just seems like I'm putting an awful lot of hours into putting new ROM's and bootloaders on this phone. Going to be especially frustrating if I go through all the steps and it still doesn't fix my issues, which would mean my phone is broke. Oh well, guess I have little other choice.
All of the issues sound related..
It shouldn't take long to drop to stock and flash up to JB.. I've bobbled and missed steps here and there and have had to return from stock more times than I care to admit.. even rooting and flashing up the ladder only take about 20 minutes if even that..
Good luck!

Yes, the flashing process isn't that long, it's getting back my phone to all of my customized settings that ends up taking weeks. Home screen icon positioning, logging in to every app, system settings, etc.

I've always created backups with Titanium Backup, but when I restore the apps, a lot of them ask me to re-login or re-verify myself.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Spent a whole day going back to stock, then CWM red, then ICS, then Jellybean. Things seem to be markedly better, but the phone still seems laggy in a few places. Is this just because it's not the latest and greatest processor?
Also, the GPS just does not work right. It's still identifying me as being in Missouri even though I'm in Nevada. Consistently. Do I just have to live with that?

Are you still using the Trebuchet Launcher that comes built-in to the JB ROM? If so, that may be part of your lag problems. I just use ADW EX launcher. Here's an excerpt from the Paranoid Android JB OP:
******* EVERYONE: If you experience a sudden lag for no reason, IT is due to Trebuchet. GOOD NEWS though... From reading the log cat on my end, there is a very simple fix... Go to settings -Launcher - Homescreen - And Check "Resize any widget" and you are good to go! Instantly fixes the lag problem that a few have been experiencing. I have located the source code that needs to be changed and this will be enabled by default on future builds. ********

As far as the GPS goes, I think Samsung just used ****ty receivers in the Infuse. My GPS isn't quite as bad as yours seems to be, but it's nowhere near as accurate or reliable as the GPS chipset in my crummy little Optimus V.

[Q] I rooted my phone a long time ago, now it's slow as hell

Hey all,
I got my phone when it came out, a couple of years ago. I'm running firmware version 2.2.1, baseband version i510.06.ED1 and kernel version 2.6.32.9
Soon after I got the phone, it started to run slowly, and I wanted to root it anyway so that I could use it to tether and get rid of the bloatwear, so I rooted it and installed the VooDoo lagfix and I think that's about it.
Well, now I'm here two years later and my phone hasn't been updated in years and runs like crap. I haven't kept up with anything that has happened with this or any other phone in the last two years, but I want to try to salvage it by trying to wipe it and start over from scratch. I don't need it to be super modded, or anything. To be honest, I just want it to run fast. 1x and 3g both no longer work, only 4g. The Launcher (LauncherPro) crashes constantly. Dialing a number takes 30 seconds or more sometimes. The phone locks up constantly and no matter what keyboard I use, it locks up while typing, stuttering and so on.
Anyhow, the long and short of it is that the phone is effed and I don't want to have to get a CS degree to fix it. This forum is so full of information now, it's hard to know where to start. Can anyone bang out some advice on what steps I should take to wipe it and start over with something a bit more robust? I'm pretty sure I have to disable VooDoo Lagfix before I wipe it, but beyond that, I don't know. Can I just disable VooDoo and do a stock factory reset? Will that fix anything, or is there some better way to end up with a clean phone that's bound to run better?
Thanks a lot,
sounds like you are several builds/kernels behind. start with this thread - should be a one-stop shop:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244704
my advice is to make a backup of your apps and system data via Titanium Backup, do a hard reset (do NOT wipe/clear your SD card), take the OTA updates (should bring you all the way up to date), and then re-root. if need be, use ODIN to flash back to stock. otherwise, I think you would be okay to install the stuff mentioned in the thread I linked.
Or you can flash the Odins from my thread - it's the same thing but can be flashed from stock.

[Q] noob rooting Gingerbread 2.3.6 w/SuperOneClick 2.3.3?

Hi, I'm trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S T-Mobile 4G (model T959V) running Gingerbread 2.3.6 using SuperOneClick 2.3.3.
I attempted root on a Windows 7 computer with:
both Samsung Kies Mini software and Samsung USB driver installed (downloaded from Samsung product page, can't post link)
Microsoft .NET 4 Extended and Microsoft .NET 4 Client Profile (which were already installed months ago for a seperate program)
USB Debugging enabled on the phone
connection via USB cable
I hit Root on Auto exploit, and after a few minutes got stuck at step #7, the window said it was (Not Responding) and I closed it. I tried the Auto exploit a second time and got stuck at step #2, again the window was (Not Responding), and I closed it. I made a third and final attempt, this time switching the exploit to psneuter, and got the same results as the second attempt.
I decided to do some more reading on the subject, and found that others were having the same problems getting stuck at step #7. Throughout my reading I have read mixed comments which say that SOC does not root Gingerbread, and others which have stated that it does. I have no idea which of the two are true, but I have read that SOC can 'root almost any phone'.. I thought my case would be no different, especially since I'm using the latest version of SOC.
Can I get some help? Is there any way that I can root this phone? Is the recovery partition on my device still OK after the multiple exploits I've tried on it? I almost want to reinstall back to stock, but am not sure if this is still an option anymore..
It works fine, mine freeezes as well, but all you have to be is patient. Sooner or later it will not freeze, but you do have to read if one of the steps failed though just in case.
When I rooted my wife's it did the same thing. Just need some patience. What I ended up doing was hitting run and walked away from my computer so it could do it's thing

Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate them.
Is waiting really all there is to it?? Ever since I disconnected the cable after the third attempt, my Galaxy S has been feeling a little abnormal. I noticed the appearance of my launcher (GO launcher) changed to a different color scheme, and a few shortcuts wouldn't execute until the phone was rebooted, the phone even shuts down 5-10 seconds faster (which wouldn't be bad if I knew I was rooted). Could all this be due to the fact that SOC just didn't finish writing to the phone?
If I try it a 4th time, will SOC overwrite the data that it had tried to put in the last 3 attempts?

The only thing SOC will do is give you busybox and Superuser so it shouldn't mess with anything on your phone. (Correct me if I'm wrong people). I wait for like 5 minutes for SOC to come back up, so I guess waiting is all it is. You can always one-click back to stock if you think your phone is acting up.

Thanks so much for your comment
I successfully rooted! Or so I think I did. SOC had finished and said that I was rooted, and it asked if I wanted to test it. I did test it, but nothing really happened? I was also never asked anything about 'Busybox'. I downloaded a root checker app, and I do indeed have 'su' privileges, along with the Superuser app. So I guess that's it
Now I'm kinda wondering, what should I do next now that I'm rooted w/SOC? Do I need to back anything up? I know there are many apps specifically designed for root like Titanium Backup, and ROM toolbox pro, but I'm wondering if any of these will be useful to me?
My main reasons for rooting, is that I want to freeze/disable bloatware from running in the background, and possibly remove them from my phone. I understand the consequences in removing the wrong app, but I only want to remove apps from companies like Facebook, Slacker, and a few others, nothing else.
Also, what does Superuser do? The apps list is empty and there is only 1 log. I found an app called SuperSU Pro that seems to replace the Superuser app, but I'm really sure how that works.
If you want to freeze/delete apps in the system, use Titanium Backup.
Well before you do anything since you are on gingerbread is get clockwork recovery on there. Easiest is to download bhvuden's kernel for 2.3 and use sgs kernel flasher app. Changing kernels won't erase anything but will give OC capability and custom recovery

Noob root now slightly bricked G Flex 2

Hi all. My new phone was going greatish. It was a little laggy, so thought I would root it and remove some of the preinstalled junk. All went fine no problem.
I removed some of the vodafone (UK) stuff, and all was well. Some time later though, I get a message:
"Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped"
And now my phone won't find the network and message pops up every couple of seconds. I tried a factory reset, but I suspect this made it worse as I have now lost my backups from Titanium app. The phone is basically unusable as it is due to constant error message and no network.
I have tried to access the recovery menu, but i get an empty robot with "no command".
I have seen some mention of CIDs on other forums but haven't got a clue how to go about fixing it or even where to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as obviously the phone is absolutely brand new, and I'm very very upset about the whole thing! Not to mention the fact that I feel like an idiot!
Anyway, thanks in advance.
You deleted something that was not suppose to be deleted. Don't the stock tot file on this forum and follow the steps to Flash back to factory
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/guide-lg-g-flex-2-stock-firmware-to-t3037593 follow the video and you should be up in running in no time . make sure this link support your version not sure which g flex2 Version you have.
Still no tot files available for the LG G Flex 2 (any variant). Sorry got to wait for some to become available.
Thanks for the input. I figured it would be something like that. Any idea when the files might be available? I don't mind being a guinea pig at this stage. My phone is LG H955 on Vodafone UK.
I am going to try and play dumb in Vodafone shop today and see if they'll replace it there and then (doubtful).
I suppose my other alternative is to return it to LG for Firmware Flash. Anyone know if this is possible and potential cost?
Strangely, I'm not so bothered about (temporarily) destroying my brand new phone too much, it's my sudden lack of connectivity that hurts the most.
Thanks guys
Further update; I have spoken to LG tech support / repair department, and I told them the phone had been rooted etc. (I didn't leave any identifying details!) They informed me that as the phone was now out of warranty, I should speak to their service partner SBE.
After calling SBE, they informed me that LG or their partner have no obligation to fix rooted phones, so apparently they just won't do it, even though I'm certain they could, which kind of sucks, as I was obviously willing to pay.
So it looks like I'm waiting for the TOT files. I hope they come along soon!
Lesson well and truly learned!

Stay positive. Hopefully those tot files come soon. I on the other hand what to experiment with my phone but need a tot file just in case I mess anything up.
If it's just your dialer that's acting up, have you tried a third party dialer to make phone calls?

Lets see if we can work on this.
Is it working ok, just not picking up the network?
How long exactly have you had it?
If you put what you all deleted meaning what folders they were in i could make a copy of that folder or apps you deleted and upload them on dropbox for you that might help get you going worth a shot
Be better if someone had the same variant as you i have the Sprint model.
Thanks again for input. I have hopefully managed to sort this with my provider. I was just within the 14 day cancellation period, so I have arranged for a brand new handset. I know its a little bit naughty but if the phone wasnt so laggy to begin with, I would never have rooted it.
I'm guessing it makes no difference to them as the phone will go back to lg for wipe and reflash as a matter of course once returned.
Thanks folks, I will remain on this forum and hopefully not do anything quite so stupid again!
Unfortunately this is my last day with this device . Great phone but i was wrong the 810 processor is dangerously hot to the point it felt like my pockets were on fire. This my second g flex2 and I'm moving on to something more reliable. Love this phone but this heat issue i can't risk. After 14 days i would be stuck with this phone and i can't take the risk of hoping of getting a device that function fine bye everyone.

Today, I've gotten myself in a similar pickle after applying noob root.. Data OK but no phonecalls and no txts. When I tried to make a call, the thing said the phone is not activated. Sprint tech supp was of course no help, so after some digging I found this: ##72786#
Factory reset, keep the data (and all apps).
That solved it.
I guess I'm old enough to know that being lazy doesn't pay.

so you had root, and while doing this factory reset you were able to go back to full stock unrooted rom? if so, were you able to install updates? i too have a sprint version and i was rooted and tried installing an update but failed, i then unrooted my phone tried the update again and still got an error. im just wondering if this method would actually help people who have the same problem as i do.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
I tried every possible way to install this damn update. Rooted, unrooted, factory reset 4 times, tried to install from the system update in settings, from recovery (which is, at least for me, very tricky to get into) all efforts errored out.
I posted a link to the update.zip in other thread.
So then I gave up and used this noob root which killed voice calls and text.
This code I posted says it does a factory reset but is resetting something else than other factory resets because almost all my settings, passwords and all apps remained intact.. Then I used the original root method and everything works like it's supposed to.
I guess we'll have to wait until someone finally starts developing for our phone.
So after a few days I just received a notification for the update for the third time. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed? I've tried it while being rooted and failed, also tried it the second time after unrooting and failed too. Also, what is the default location where the update is downloaded to, so I can back it up.
So far nothing has worked. The update should be in the cache folder. There is also a link to download the update that someone posted in another thread here about the update.
FYI - I forced the update through recovery over root and bricked my phone. Like all the way bricked. I can get to recovery and download mode, but no fastboot even. Luckily I was within my 14 days and there is no way to tell it is rooted... because it doesn't even get that far, so I got a replacement. My sincere advice would be to wait to root until we have custom recovery and stock firmware available, and if you have root now, wait to update until a dev can release a "root safe" version.
I'm not an expert but I'm not new either. I got the original Evo on launch day and have done all kinds of dumb stuff to every phone since. This is the first time I haven't been able to recover it.

=( *hug. That sucks man, thankfully you were able to get it replaced. *pfew I dodged a bullet there. I was actually thinking about doing the same thing getting home from work. Yeah its best we don't mess with the phone any longer those that have root at the moment. Until custom recovery and stock rom is out like he says.
Wow. How did you manage to "force" the update through recovery? I tried it through recovery but it would error out. (Error 7)
I will tell you, as a cautionary tale.
The error when you flash from recovery references a specific file that is incompatible with the update. I used root explorer to investigate further and found that the root script had overwritten a system file. The original was saved as "original" so I deleted the file causing the error and renamed the original one. After that, the update went through and I thought I was golden... Only now nothing else works.
