The OnePlus Camera & The Google Camera App - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
So I purchased the One for my wife, while I'm using the Nexus 5 on Stock ROM (rooted and all).
I decided to install a nightly build of CM of Lollipop 5.0.1 (unofficial). Doing so, I had the default Google camera app.
The only thing I can say is, "It's CRAP"!
The OnePlus has a great camera H/W installed, yet the Google camera app does it ****ty reputation since I got these 1 year old focus issues as I'm getting with my Nexus 5 on the same app. I do realize it's the app more than the H/W of OnePluse One. Yet , I was really in shock when I realized that the image quality and video quality are so bad that when you take videos, you see how the camera keeps hunting for focus on a bright day sunny day.
Is this something you experience as well? Do you have any recommendations on a good camera app that takes images without delays and no focus hunting?

Moto G poor camera? Any other issues?

I've read mixed reviews regarding the Moto G's camera, some say it's pretty good, others describe it as dire and has trouble focusing.
What are your experiences and have you tried any other camera apps? Can different software overcome the problems? And even add features, such as white balance settings? I use Pro Capture sometimes on my N5, simply because the standard camera app has a 16:9 viewfinder when it shoots 4:3 pictures and that annoys me no end...
My friend has just ordered this phone based on my recommendation (there is no other phone in her price range that I would even consider, frankly), and I want to make sure her experience is a great one! This will be her first ever smartphone.
Also, does the phone have any other minor niggles which I can resolve in advance for her, by changing settings or using different apps? I'm already considering installing Opera as her main browser rather than ram-hog Chrome.
Edit: This phone will not be rooted, I'm not opening that can of worms for her just yet, unless I'm asked.
Moto Camera app itself is pretty good with simplest settings, I wouldnt recommend using any other camera apps. It has both 16:9 and 4:3 viewfinder options. I didn't have any "focus" issue and might happen sometimes when there is hardly any lighting. Chrome actually works good in this phone but if she has no need for syncing desktop bookmarks and other things, stock aosp browser (can be installed from play store) works much faster than any other browser.

I love the AOSP browser but too many things quit working after Jellybean for me to continue using it. I miss AOSP browser every day though, not least of all text reflow and the speed. Dumping the ability to implement text reflow (not only in Chrome but also every app that relies on the Webview class, such as GMail) was a **** move by Google. Hate them for that.
Glad to hear that the camera is going to do ok with not much messing with settings, my friend really just needs a point and shoot that will capture stuff with minimum hassle. I'll see how she gets on with it then.
For me the camera sucks, i got some purple tint with flash in my pics :S

Is that not a fault? Thought about taking it back and exchanging it?

Yup, that would def. be a major faulty worthy of free replacement or repair and even easy to prove.
Is it not annoying that the focus feature is not launched by default, and you have to go to the settings wheel every time that you want to take a picture with something in focus? This is another reason I'm thinking about installing a third party camera app for my friend, when the phone arrives.

Not enough RAM
The camera isn't that bad. I've had some good shots from it.
But the lack of RAM is the biggest issue for me, especially when using Chrome. When browsing I often see all other apps killed off, including music playback, which is very frustrating. Basically I cannot use Chrome and Google Play Music together for long.
Also, if I'm casting something to my Chromecast then using Chrome will often kill off the Chromecast notification in the status bar.
And it isn't just Chrome. Yesterday I had RunKeeper tracking a long walk with the family and when I tried using the camera to take some photos along the way it forced RunKeeper to close so I lost my route mapping.
1GB of RAM just isn't enough for me sadly and I am looking to switch to a different device. I am saving for either a Moto X or a Nexus 5.
I understand that problem well - my last phone before my N5 was a Galaxy S3, and the multitasking was abysmal. It was a lot better with an AOSP ROM though, and I was hoping that 1GB RAM on a nice clean (almost) stock build of Android would perform well enough for my friend. There really isn't much alternative in this price range to be fair. Sad to hear about Runkeeper, she's into running in a big way and that's almost certain to be one of the first apps she downloads...

It's an nice nippy device, beautiful screen. Just the camera seems to bu a lot of people.
If you update the camera app through the play store and use HDR then the pictures are good.
There seem to be some problems using the flash, but on mine I haven't had this problem. Though,
what I find using the flash is that it doesn't always(mostly) lite's up correctly. Leaving mostly
dark pictures. I am pretty sure with the correct software it would function just fine.
We should be able to activate the flash manually then start the camera. Could be done with an hack.
Someone on the net suggested to update to the correct radio if you have an custom rom and purple shine. Don't know if that is true. But it couldn't hurt to try.
In any case, not using HDR gives horrible pictures for sure. Check out the pictures thread
on the the moto g forum for examples there above acceptable. And check 'motorola' in the play store.
edit; you also can checkout CameraMX.
Camera issues resolved.
I had a bit trouble with camera but not anymore. You simply change the picture to 4:3 and most importantly control focus and exposure by yourself ( because in low light camera doesn't take good pics at all). You can keep HDR and flash on auto mode.
You can even try AOSP camera ( install it manually without flashing) but I would recommend to stick to stock camera.
Bad call quality(to low volume)
I don`t care about camera, or RAM, they are good enough for me. Bad low volume in earpiece, that **** is killing me. This is my best phone overall i owned, but sound quality(in call volume) is the worst. Does anyone alse also have that problem? I`m thinking about selling Moto G, just because of this issue.

[Q] Why isnt my camera working the same after 4.2.2 update?

Hi
I got an HTC one x from AT&T almost a year ago, and I bought it it was unlock but I asked a friend to relocked and then I upgraded to android 4.2.2 sense 5 after I did I started having some issues
My battery iwas draining so fast but after a couple of hard reset it stopped a little. But after the update my camera wasnt working properly I mean I can take pictures and I set it to a 5 seconds review and there my picture looks awesome but when I go to the gallery is much different looking terribly bad the colors aren't as bright as in the review, it's even worst with the front camera. My eyes look so ugly lighter. I download a Google edition camera from android 4.4 and there my pictures looks awesome.
What do you suggest me to fix up my camera?
Thanks

Camera comparison? OPO, N4, N5, MotoX (13,14), N6?

I take lots of fast action snap shots/videos of my 2 young kids. For this purpose, how do you rank the cameras in OPO, N4, N5, N6, MotoX (both 13, 14)?
Other suggestions are also appreciated.
I've owned an iPhone 5, 5S, HTC One M7/M8, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Note 3, and the OPO. The OPO has the best camera in my opinion. I took a damn good macro shot today that blew my mind and my coworkers mind today. I haven't done any video yet.
I almost tried all of that because im working in an eletrodomestic shop but OPO still the best..
Waaaait you're saying the O+O has a better camera than the HTC M8! Man that's a tough call. I've seen and used the M8 and its duo ultra pixel camera takes some of the best night pics I've seen.

Alot of people say OPO camera is the best etc....and then you got those people saying even Moto G can take better pictures at least in low light.....
I get it that RAW pictures can be edited and made perfect, but smartphone is not about RAW, its about shooting in Auto (Clear, HDR, Auto modes etc) so shooting decent/good pictures in all light conditions is important.
The Snap Camera beta version takes really good low light shots when the noise reduction filter is applied in the app.

Mi4C vs SGS4 camera only

Hi,
How would you compare camera in Mi4c vs Galaxy s4 ? Is there any one who moved from s4 to Mi4c ? I have browsed all pages with pictures and comparison tools however cannot find real user experience. I am currently using sgs4 and camera is enough for me, however with new phone I would like to get a bit more Will I get it with Mi4C ?
Thanks
If I were in your place, I'd wait for mi5. S4 ain't a bad device
The only thing i liked about the S4 was the screen. The camera takes blurry shots 4/5 times and it lagged to no end. The Mi4c is worlds above it.
I had i9505 2 months ago I sold It and bought mi4c I think mi4c has a better camera as compared to s4 and if we talk about features of camera mi4c has awesome manual mode which s4 lacks
I agree with ermacwins. You should wait a little for mi5
hey, as far as camera is concerned the mi4c is miles ahead of the s4 (and it should be, actually, it's a flagship two years ahead !) i wasn't a sg4 owner but i have used it a lot and i'm also a previous xperia z owner (both share the same imx135 sensor) and i can safely suggest the mi4c as a camera update over the sg4. however if you are very interested in night photography mi4/mi note will suit you better (and of course mi5).
mi4c's imx258 is way ahead of s4, IMO the worst thing about mi4c's camera is the MIUI camera app itself - you've got plenty of options, but in worse light conditions it ruins 9 of 10 taken photos - a much simpler google camera takes much better pictures as it uses better exposure parameters and doesn't try to wipe out the higher ISO noise along with all the detail left
and yes, wait for the mi5 to appear - the mi4c price will drop making it even better buy
Hi, I come from a family of S4 owners but used a LG G2 instead.
The Mi4C takes much better pictures than the S4 (main reason being its fast PDAF focus). The processing is mature, it capures much more light in the same conditions as well and shutter lag is much less. Like the other people here, I advise you to wait for the Mi 5 release, but here are some pictures I took with my Mi 4c:

I remember reading your comments on the xda portal camera related on cm roms. If you havent tried cm13, try it now because it has a new snapdragon camera and it rivals the miui stock camera.

actually the miui app has proper manual controls and the g. camera has not. but yes, in auto mode your night shots come out both blurry and full of noise. (who makes the software? the camera picks 1/12 s.s. and 3000 iso ! tons of noise and shake too ! )

I'm on Team Superluminal's CM13. I'll definitely look into it. The stock camera of CM13 is horrible, it doesn't even support PDAF. At the moment I have to restore a MiUI build when I know I'm going to spend the day taking pictures, and revert back to CM13 afterwards. Thank you for letting me know, camera quality is the one thing that bugs me on AOSP.

Are you on the latest build because it was added with the ROM. I'm on a older build and had to flash the camera. There was some flickering but apparently fixed.

Blurry snapchat camera quality in pixel example rom

I installed pixel experience in my redmi note 7. but whenever I install it i face that same problem, blurry and worst level camera quality in snapchat.specialy in selfie camera. Even though pre installed google camera works well and gives best quality pictures but snapchat camera is really doing worst and that force me to reinstall miui. Can someone please help me ?
the thing is you can install the software but the hardware that provided the quality photos can't be replicate thats why Google Pixel and Nexus phone are worth buying
But in miui i get good quality pictures in snapchat but when i change to pixel experience rom it get worst
