5.0 to 5.01 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried flashing the 5.0.1 ota but the custom recovery gives me a error ,it seems to think that my current version is 4.4 and not 5.0 ???
What's wrong[emoji15]

You'll need original recovery and kernel to apply the ota.

I have the original recovery and kernel, just rooted and it also gave me an error. Unless the CF auto-root installed a custom kernel?

Flash the boot and system images from the 5.0 factory image with fastboot. Then do the ota.

When 5.0 was first released, CFAR did modify the kernel. Just depends on when you rooted.

I flashed stock recovery... Then suddenly I received the OTA update but still failed with a error . yes I'm rooted from some time ago, does it mean that is why it fail to update?

Just flash the image, no big deal.

Yes you now must be 100% stock since 5.0

[Q] Back to stock recovery for OTA update.

Hello my dearest XDA friends,
I've got a problem preparing my phone for an OTA update to 4.0.4, then to 4.1(.1?).
My situation is like this:
- My phone is rooted (SuperSU)
- It has what I believe to be TWRP Recovery on it
- I tried to flash stock recovery on it.
But now when I use OTA Rootkeeper and start the update, it gives the red triangle exclamation mark error.. I've tried to flash it using the All-in-One Kit, and also by booting into the bootloader and using "fastboot flash recovery.img", it then says the flash is successful but when I try to boot into Recovery mode it gives the same error..
I'm out of ideas, what to do? I'd rather not lose any files.. thanks!
Oh - I have the S4 version btw
Bump - Sorry for triple post just really want to know.
You need to lock your bootloader
It is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and NOT fastboot flash recovery.img

But am I even able to flash a recovery to it then? I can flash TWRP or CWM to it just fine, and I can boot in it after I flashed it, just not with the stock Recovery..

Download the update through hitting software update.
Then flash stock recovery. Boot up phone. Hit install update. After finished, boot to bootloader, flash twrp.

I've tried this, but when I start the update I get the red triangle error again.. I tried it by locking the bootloader, didn't work, then unlocked it again, so obviously everything was wiped, I've installed ParanoidAndroid now, if I don't like it I'll just install a custom ROM with Sense+.
Thanks for the help guys!
Yes you got red triangle because you need stock recovery to install official updates.

Yes, but when I flash stock recovery, then boot into recovery I get the green circle-arrow update thingy, then the red triangle, why is that?
You'll need to boot into android, with the stock bootloader installed, and the update will boot bootloader and install.
You'll get a prompt telling you what to do.

Don't do relock. Boot up your phone. Go to setting---> about phone sw update. Hit update now and wait.

Man.. I'm having the same issue. Was rooted with TWRP, flashed ZenRom fine (with intentions of getting the OTA to JB), booted fine. Then had to switch computers cuz windows 8 sucks. Flashed stock recovery img, successful, now device won't boot past the green circle, then red triangle.
Any suggestions? I supposed I'll try flashing another recovery and see what progress I can make there.
I posted this instruction like 3 times in the xda forum in one week...
if you follow this step by step correctly there should be NO ! issues by reverting to stock JB
take a look here, or take two looks or more or whatever
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37942416&postcount=2
why using rootkeeper? follow this instructions and root again.
I used this method 3 times on windows 8 with latest HTC drivers, original HTC data cable, and TWRP 2.4.1.0.
no issues

[RECOVERY][4.4][NEXUS 7 2012 WiFi]Stock KitKat recovery - flashable zip

Just in case anyone needs it - here's a flashable zip with stock Nexus 7 2012 WiFi KitKat recovery, straight from the factory image.
Instructions: just install the zip using your custom recovery.
You do this on your own responsibility, I am in no way responsible for anything that happens to your device.
works great thanks
Does this flash the boot.img and recovery as well? Or only system?
So this replaces twrp or cwm?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Just recovery.img, and yes, it replaces cwm or twrp.
When I flash the zip in cwm, it says it was successful. Then when I reboot and go back into recovery, its still cwm. What am I doing wrong?
Is this recovery better then then other custom.
Btw i just want to know becouse with my new nexus7wifi 32GB 4.3 stock i didnt had recovery only boot loader, with kitkat is coming also stock recovery and when i get ota update is it gonna be installed

So if we are on custom rom android 4.3, we just need to flash this zip and we will get OTA update for stock android 4.4?

Basically, yes. That's why it's called "stock recovery". You can use it on other ROMs I presume, but it's very limited and doesn't allow for flashing zip files.
Anyways - if you don't know why would you want to flash stock recovery you probably don't need it. It's here for those that do.
So if this is flashed and I'm on a custom ROM right now will I receive the stock ota 4.4 ROM?

No you will loose your custom recovery when applying the OTA, but that's another topic. You will get the OTA independently whether you have a 'stock' or a custom recovery installed.

[Q] Upgrade on Italy Tim carrier OneSV Relocked and (maybe) unrooted

Hi
I've recentlyunblocked and unrooted my Italy TIM HtcOneSV using HTC procedure to unblock the bootloader.
Recently TIM release the upgrade 3.11.901.108, but my terminal failed to upgrade, supposedly for unblocking and rooting.
So I first decided to reblock thru fastboot the phone, and on my CMW appeared "RELOCKED", but still the terminal wont update.
Then I tried to UNROOT using SuperSU, but also without any success.
In botn sases, the upgrading stops at CMW, and the only thing I can to is to select REBOOT.
I hope someone can give me a hint to solve this situation
Installed: Android vers. 4.1.2 HTCSense 4+ Num.SW 2.15.901.103 kernel [email protected] RELOCKED/S-ON
Thanks in advance
You still have cwm installed, while updating?
You must run a stock boot.img, stock recovery and stock system (no files deleted).
Otherwise the update will fail.

Do I need my carrier stock image, don't I?
I found smtg on HTC site in Kernel Source Code, Binaries and Updates for HTC Android Phones
I am afraid is only kernel, as is 99 Mb .zip file,
This is the file description:
Model One SV Carrier TIM IT kernel 3.4.10 Android v4.1.2 size 99.3 MB description 2.15.901.103
Is this what I need, or do I have to find something else?
Unlock your bootloader first.
Then, all you need to do is flash your stock recovery.img. then relock your bootloader. You do that and you can proceed with your ota update.

When you say stock recovery, you mean MY CARRIER recovery.img or HTC ONE SV Europe Android 4.1.2 (my actual version) stock recovery.img?
Sorry for my ignorance, and for my English. I really don't have understood the exact meaning of STOCK file
Thank you, anyway!

Your OTA will have the recovery.ing you need. Inside the ZIP file for your OTA will be a firmware.zip. Inside that zip will be your images. Including the recovery. Flash the recovery with your bootloader unlocked. Then relock your bootloader and accept your OTA. You should be good then.

Actually I soft-bricked my phone yesterday, and since I was brand-new I didn't backup anything. And after a hellish ride unbricking my phone I got it to work, but I went back an update. Before I was at 4.1.2 and it went back to 4.0.4

You never unlocked your bootloader.
Well I'm not entirely sure where you went wrong there, did you Odin back to 4.0.4 or was that just an old backup?
That unauthorized software has been detected happened to me before when I took an ota unknowingly and didn't realize it locked my bootloader.
Going back to 4.0.4 was my fault, when looking for a solution to unbrick my phone I found a webpage that explained how and gave me files to download. And the file for the default rom was 4.0.4. I will try again after unlocking my bootloader again.
What did you use to get back to 4.0.4?
I unlocked my bootloader, went to cwm and tried to install a custom rom and got "E:Error in /sdcard/cm- 11 -20131211 - NIGHTLY -d2vzw.zip. (Status 7) Installation aborted".
Is that what it's showing now?

Yes, at first I forgot to wipe data/cache but even after I did that the same thing still comes up. Halp. Should I use Rom Manager? That's the progrom I used originally when I would get the System Software error, and now I get this error when going into CWM manually.

Older recoveries don't work with kit Kat (4.4) roms.
If you are using CWM make sure its 6.0.4.3
Where could I find a newer version? Sorry I'm scrub-cakes.

Personally I prefer to use the app called flashify and install recovery image.
Alright thank you all I should be good now, if not then I will post some more.

[Q] Android 4.4.3 on a rooted device

I own a rooted Nexus 5 with KitKat 4.4.2. I've shut it down and reboot the phone but it is still running the 4.4.2 instead of the 4.4.3 and it doesn't receive the new update again. What can I do?

[Q] in title most definitely means this should be in q&a and not general.
The reason it failed is because you weren't stock (kernel, recovery, all system apps, no xposed framework). You need all of those to flash ota.
Like posted above, download @vomer's 4.4.3 ROM and flash it. It's the same thing. I ran it for a week and its golden

I had the same problem and the only "mod" I did was the tethering mod where I added the tether_dun_required 0 change to the settings.db file
Would that be the reason why mine failed? I unlocked bootloader, rooted STOCK.

Would probably need to know the error message to further troubleshoot the issue.
If you want root after an OTA, you have to fastboot flash a custom recovery then flash the superSU zip to root, so as suggested you may aswell fastboot flash recovery then recovery flash the stock rooted rom already mentioned. Actually fewer steps doing that.
