Can't install Custom ROM on SCH i535 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I don't seem to be able to install a Custom ROM, when I try I get this error "system software not authorized by verizon wireless found on your phone". I've tried twice with this result. Anybody know why this might be happening?

I'm assuming you took the ota today?

Actually I soft-bricked my phone yesterday, and since I was brand-new I didn't backup anything. And after a hellish ride unbricking my phone I got it to work, but I went back an update. Before I was at 4.1.2 and it went back to 4.0.4

You never unlocked your bootloader.

Well I'm not entirely sure where you went wrong there, did you Odin back to 4.0.4 or was that just an old backup?
That unauthorized software has been detected happened to me before when I took an ota unknowingly and didn't realize it locked my bootloader.

Going back to 4.0.4 was my fault, when looking for a solution to unbrick my phone I found a webpage that explained how and gave me files to download. And the file for the default rom was 4.0.4. I will try again after unlocking my bootloader again.

What did you use to get back to 4.0.4?

I unlocked my bootloader, went to cwm and tried to install a custom rom and got "E:Error in /sdcard/cm- 11 -20131211 - NIGHTLY -d2vzw.zip. (Status 7) Installation aborted".

Is that what it's showing now?

Yes, at first I forgot to wipe data/cache but even after I did that the same thing still comes up. Halp. Should I use Rom Manager? That's the progrom I used originally when I would get the System Software error, and now I get this error when going into CWM manually.

You can't install cm11 in older CWM RECOVERY
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I'm assuming now that the version I have is outdated and incompatible?

Older recoveries don't work with kit Kat (4.4) roms.

If you are using CWM make sure its 6.0.4.3

Where could I find a newer version? Sorry I'm scrub-cakes.

Can flash it with ROM manager

Download the .IMG from here http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Personally I prefer to use the app called flashify and install recovery image.

Alright thank you all I should be good now, if not then I will post some more.

Lol System User thing again I'm so bad at this.

New OTA Update

So I just got some type of OTA update from Verizon, I have an unlocked bootloader as well as rooted. Can I install this update or will it brick? The file is under /cache/fota/update.zip 30.92mb. I thought if you was rooted you couldn't even get OTA's. Any ideas? I renamed the file so it wouldn't update even though it asked me when to install and I entered 10pm tonight to retry.

It's a pretty major security patch so hopefully someone here puts it in a package for flashing. Someone else said they just unlocked again immediately after but I'm not sure how to best approach it for you.

Rooting doesn't do anything about receiving updates, it's a particular file that is phoning home.

Do you have a rom? If not people are saying they installed update and rooted device again.
I just got it this morning as well.... I'm stock rooted and I don't want the update. Do I have to accept it? Do I need to un-root? What will happen to my Google Wallet & Google Now?
I'd like to know also, I am stock rooted, unlocked and don't know if I should accept the update or not??
I got the same update but it flashed itself into recovery and then failed to install the update. Says "install aborted"

You are right, I clicked "OK", it rebooted and went into CWM. I clicked "reboot now", when the phone finished booting I got an error message. Hopefully it won't continue doing this.
No I'm on a stock rooted ROM, it tried to install just now and failed as well.

This is because you all most likely have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM and it can only install on stock recovery. If you freeze sdm1.0 it wont keep asking you to update

I've heard that to be safe, you need to re-lock the boot loader, un-root, and go back to stock in order to accept the updates.
There is a guide to do that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253

Starting my phone after 2 months

2 months back, I upgraded my phone to S3, so I kept my infuse aside. Today morning when I tried to switch on the phone, phone doesnt start.
It was perfectly working before I upgraded my phone.
Is it bricked? I am able to open CWM, I wiped cache, dalvik cache and factory rest through CWM. Is there any other way to get back instead of download mode. my last destination is download mode, go back to stock. but just checking, if there is any other way, before trying it.
TIA

yeah if you had adb access there is a chance you could identify the issue but the idea that you'd be able to correct it is iffy. but if you hadn't already done a reset you could potentially use adb to backup your data and apps before a reflash. anyway I think you will like the selection of jelly bean ROMs. the infuse might not be a galaxy s3 but with cm10 its not so bad.

Well if your phone wasn't rooted or didn't have recovery, how did you try flashing ICS, start over using a back to stock, then follow instructions to a t, on root, recovery, boot loaders, and finally go for a jb ROM there are a few very stable ones available.

I am using •Heimdall One-Click Back To Stock UCLB3 + Easy Clockwork Recovery Mod Install (FOR AT&T USERS) Last Updated: June 03, 2012
this to goto stock, then flash boot loaders.
After flashing boot loaders, I am trying to root the device using super oneclick, then I am stuck on the screenshot shown in my previous post.
If you have clockwork mod recovery you don't need to root. Find an ICS ROM and flash away. BUT FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE OP. Not shouting at you just emphasizing the importance of it.

So what happens if....

I am tempted to go back to a regular sense 2.1 stock rooted ROM and attempt the upgrade even though I know I might not be able to root again for a while. I rooted through revolutionary. What is the worst, likely thing that could happen? Will I boot back up to all of my data on the stock Thunderbolt ICS?

You have to fully unroot to take the ota.

You, of course, need to fully unroot before you flash back to the stock ROM and take the OTA. If you do not fully unroot, taking the OTA will brick you since it contains a new encrypted hboot. I would just wait for the rooted version of the OTA to be released, which should be posted within the next few days.
It would suck to unroot and take the OTA and then have to wait however long before you can root again.
However, if you're talking about flashing an old stock ROM backup that you may have made a long time ago, it wont have any complications. You will be able to receive the OTA then, but do not install it without fully unrooting first.
Buy fully on rooting, does that include the option to on route that is found in the Super SU settings?

I wouldn't trust it.
Just download the files and go through command prompt to unroot. Not sure if it can be done with trter10s tool or not. I rooted mine with the same method and when I ran trter10s tool and hooked up my phone, it basically was saying it was interrupted. So I had to unroot the old manual way through command prompt.
If you can use his tool though, by all means, use it. It will definitely save you time.

Isn't that what he was talking about? Sounds like he was rooted with s-off, flashed a stock rooted rom and then updated via the OTA. Sounds like he didn't apply the stock locked bootloader and the OTA applied just fine. Wouldn't the OTA just overwrite the bootloader with the new locked one?
Looks like the only problem you'd have doing it that way is waiting for a new root method.

Possibly. I figured you'd probably have to return the bootloader to stock before taking the OTA to prevent a brick.

I was previously on the most up-to-date version of gingerbread, and used HTC Thunderbolt tool v1.0.1 to S-off/root the device.
I flashed stock recovery 2.11.605.9 to the device. I downloaded the following RUU_Mecha_GINGERBREAD_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.11.605.9_Radio_0.01.78.0916w_3_NV_8K_1.41_9K_1.64_release_226879_signed, pulled the rom.zip from it, and renamed it to PG05IMG.zip to flash it to the device. The device then updated itself to the most up-to-date gingerbread version. I then performed the update for ICS, it installed itself just fine, and the device booted up into ICS. I checked the bootloader, it says that I am S-off Hboot-6.04.1002, and Radio-2.02.00.1117r.
After restarting the device, I started HTC Thunderbolt tool v1.0.1. It asked if I wanted to install SU, I said yes, and it proceeded through it. Once the program finished its installation, I had the SU app in the app drawer, and downloaded ROM Manager so that I could install the recovery, it asked for SU permission to install it. I then restarted just fine into recovery to double check that it was there.

Backing up current ROM now.. have the RUU on SD ready to flash.. Looks like RUU in trter10's sig has stock recovery in it, so going to try flashing RUU with 4ext and nusensex currently installed.
backup done.. formatting all except SD to be safe (ext3)
Loading PG05IMG.zip in bootloader...
Updating.. it says it Bypassed the bootloader... excellent... all others updated OK including recovery and radio..
rebooting.. seems to be starting up ok. Signed in to google, will check for OTA in a moment.
Found 395.638MB update (ICS) Downloading now.. appears to have enabled 3g to download even though i'm on wifi.. this my take a bit. not sure why it's not 4g at the moment.
hmm, ics loaded, when trying to root with the thunderbolt tool, phone reboots itself into the bootloader. any ideas? ok, had to choose the bootloader option, and then choose the fastboot option to go back in and it took. weird.

You can't flash a boot.img via sideload and you can't flash a boot.img via adb. Has to be with fastboot.
Code:

Your boot.img is most likely fine, you just need to restore your system partition. Did you make a backup of your device using your custom recovery? If so, then you need to restore using that backup. Otherwise, I can provide a link to either my TWRP backup (not CWM compatible), an RUU, or my deodexed Rom. Your choice. First, if you already have a backup made up, then apply it. Otherwise, let me know.

You can't flash a boot.img via sideload and you can't flash a boot.img via adb. Has to be with fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Your boot.img is most likely fine, you just need to restore your system partition. Did you make a backup of your device using your custom recovery? If so, then you need to restore using that backup. Otherwise, I can provide a link to either my TWRP backup (not CWM compatible), an RUU, or my deodexed Rom. Your choice. First, if you already have a backup made up, then apply it. Otherwise, let me know.

Sorry about that yah i took the boot.img out of the (K2CLCconversionN) Rom and flashed it via fast boot "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
My only problem now is finding a rom that will work with data on the K2CL Boost one.
Thanks
@angelus9151
Download, and run this on your windows computer. Your device will need to be plugged in via usb to your computer also.

It will fix your device completely.

Just a pointer from someone who used to use CWM if you flash twrp recovery its a lot cleaner, with more options than CWM. since your going back stock I would recommend flashing twrp recovery in place of CWM

I had TWRP on before CWM but even when i would load that it would still bootloop thats why i used CWM. Just one question if i want to root it again without a system control app this time will i be able to use this exe file to restore it if it happens again. it took me a year before i tried it because the first time there was no roms and i bootlooped that HTC one SV and had to fork over $300.00 bucks for a new one but i figured that i would root it because of busybox.
Again Thanks...Your a life saver if this works.I'll let you know when i'm done

Its an ruu, an ruu is about as legit as you are going to get when it comes to restoring your phone. So yes, it will work . If your phone bootlooped when you flashed twrp in the past then my guess is that you either used the wrong fastboot commands and wrote it to another partition by accident, or you used a TWRP that was not presumably built for your phone and thus used another TWRP designed for another device.

If you are about to do something to your phone, make sure you know exactly what you are doing, why you are doing it, how it works, why it works, should I make a mistake what are my escape routes, and if all else fails - plan B. If none of these are set to mind then I recommend you do absolutely nothing to your phone until you actually understand its method.

Hi, So i just bought this device and I've looked all over the internet to root my htc one sv on BOOST mobile. I unlocked the bootloader but then must have been following the wrong guide and flashed a wrong recovery or something. I can boot just not into recovery, it gets stuck "entering recovery". Does anyone know a recent and more updated way to root this device?! Thank you so much in advance!

You have to have the ICS boot loader and Boot Menu Manager in order to install and run CM11 or any other ROM that is Jelly Bean and up. Just update your firmware, root, install BMM the start flashing.
So I'm having some trouble.. Before I do this I need to fix something.. Heres whats going on every time I reboot I lose my imei number my carrier says unknown and i have the red circle with the line thru it. I dont want to install another rom if this is going to keep happening. An advice on how I can change some settings to make it stop. I've looked and looked only find things for galaxy's. Thanks in advance

catch me up with what you did to get where your are at, I need to know your cause before I can find a solution.
next, are you rooted and have a custom recovery installed? You can boot but get nothing right? Did this happen when you flashed a new ROM or after you got rid of things in your system?

only thing i did was change my boot animation. An thats it downloaded cydia substrate and winter board.. I removed both and tried to reboot and same thing happened. Also it was doing it before I even installed them and changed the boot animation.
I might of deleted some att apps but when I did a full restore and got them back I even fully uninstalled bootstrap with titanium back up. An say after I fully restored I turned my phone off and back on boom no imei no service etc..
My phone is rooted an im on firmware 2.3.6
I have no clockwork mod I cant get it too work or I know I cant get clockwork mod wit bootstrap.. But even when i went into boot recovery i was just in a bootloop at my motorola boot screen. an was not able to get into recovery no matter what button i pressed.

I hate to say it but it looks like you might have to flash a jelly bean STOCK(not custom) firmware, then start over from scratch, I think you are going to have to do it anyway because there are things in the stock jellybean that you're gonna need in place before you flash any kind of new ROM, it would also be easier that way than trying to fix your problem befire you start.

yes as long as it is a stock version of jelly bean for your device, doesnt matter the version as long as its for your exact model number
you won't be able to do it through recovery though, you'll have to have a oc to flash stock firmware to your device, you'll need to download your stock firmware (not custom roms), the usb drivers for your device, and whatever program is required to flash your stock firmware. no other way, then you'll have to root again and install a recovery then you can find and flash whatever custom roms are available for your device

there is a process that you can do through the terminal emulator app that you can make a backup of your imei and a method to restore it but you'll have to find how it is done for your device, do a google search for "HOW TO MAKE AN IMEI BACKUP FOR (your device model)" that should give you something.

Hello..!!
Do you've Atrix 2 mb865 ..?? if yes you can follow this step..
you need to download ICS/JB leak firmware for ur device AT&T/International version, then you need rsd lite to flash ur stock fw back to ur device via fasboot mode..
Root ur device again and then you need to install Boot Menu Manager from playstore . No Bootstrap anymore if you want to have KK rom on ur Atrix2..
Bootstrap only can be use if you're still on GB only..
Hope you got it my friend ...

I told him I wasn't familiar with his device, I told him to flash a newer version of stock because it has parts he'll need if he flashes a newer custom ROM but he keeps wanting yo fix what he's running even though he's gonna have to flash over it anyway to get where he wants to be so I don't see wgat the problem is, flashing stock will get rid of his issue then flash up to whatever Rom he wants, I don't see why he doesn't just go ahead and do it now instead of doing what he's doing.
