Seems to be LOTS of issues in this forum? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just ordered a OPO and of course I came and started to read up on it and it just seems like there are a lot of issue in this forum compared to other phones I've had. Is that just me being paranoid about buying something I haven't seen in person?

Most of the "issues" are caused by user error. Don't freak out, it's a great phone.

Thanks, and why is everything in OPO have something to do with Bacon? Is Bacon a dev or something? I feel like I should know this

Bacon is the codename for this device. Just like the Nexus 4 is Mako, the HTC One is m7/m8, and the OnePlus One is Bacon. Best codename for a phone ever if you ask me.

You're on a forum where people come who like to fcuk about with their phone. If you mess with your phone, you'll get "issues" somewhere along the line.
"Normal" Joe Public are not interested in messing with the phone. Tech heads come to XDA.
In the real World, there are not so many "issues".

The problem is people doing things to their phones with out knowing how, why and what they are doing.
If people read and understood some of what they are doing before just randomly flashing things then they wouldn't have half as many problems.

I'm willing to help anyone who isn't too lazy to write more than a one line "description" of their problem. It goes without saying that as much relevant information as possible is needed, surely that's common sense. All it takes is to be bothered to look at a couple of threads here on XDA to realise that. The very least I could do is nothing, which is probably what a one line description deserves, but I did actually hint at the need to provide more information.

Then, if you're not interested, don't do anything. Ignore threads/people like this and let all the crap from these lazy people pile on and delete them later on. Tl;dr you can't just simply expect everyone to follow all the rules...nonetheless, teach themselves.

Yes I've dropped it a few times, but the problem didn't occur immediately after, so I don't think that the hardware is damaged. I'm running the latest cyanogenmod 11 nightly, hboot 2.14. Also sometimes when I turn it on the touch screen doesn't work at all, restarting the phone fixes that issue, however.

I absolutely can and do expect everyone to follow the rules, because it's those rules that people need to agree to when signing up for this site. Don't have a go at me for voicing frustrating at somebody else not doing the right thing, that's completely backwards. One wouldn't go to a doctor and simply say "I'm unwell" without giving any further information, that analogy applies here too.

You should try running an RUU. If the problem persists you most likely have a hardware issue.

Microphone Woes? Change.org

I noticed this today and figured I would create a new post so that many of us who are sick of being messed around by Google who simply refuse to acknowledge the issue, can actually do something about it.
The only way big companies like Google actually do anything is when it becomes public. They hope that they can just sit out the warranty period and then brush it all under the carpet. If you are frustrated and think that they owe you a simple software fix (this is agreed to be the most likely culprit affecting the noise cancellation mic), then put your voice where it's heard and have them fix your phone so that it actually works the way it should have from the start! It's pretty clear that in the 'L' preview the issue still exists, which essentially means they don't intend to do a thing about it.
https://www.change.org/p/google-fix-microphone-issues-on-nexus-5-phones
Or sit back and let them screw you over for $400 and take your money for a new phone.
So, what is the issue you're having?

Really?

Well @simms22 hit the nail on the head so not sure why you're including him in your 36,000 posts. Its pretty high profile issue. Hard to miss. There is a thread on page 1 of this forum every day.

i just pointed it out to jd1639, im staying out of it past that. that removes the majority of the posts there, in one shot
Anything that makes this phone even better is worth supporting. Best of luck.
The point is LG doesn't know how to perfect the Noise cancellation algorithm
Look @ their G2 and G3 same issue
The post was simply to give the numerous people with this issue a potential avenue for a fix. I didn't mean for this to be a debate.
Change.org does some pretty good things, and raising public awareness of a major company who is absolutely trying to ignore an issue that most of the support people know about when you call is just wrong.
Sign the petition,or don't. If you have a problem with the phone then you most likely will be interested.
Thanks.
You have to use the report button if you want it closed. Unlikely anyone will see your link if you let it die.

[Q] N5 still on 4.4.4 OTA nowhere in sight Sideload not possible

So a friend of mine recently got himself a Nexus 5 but despite checking everyday he's still on 4.4.4 (KTU84P) with no OTA in sight. Sideloading, ADB or anything even remotely technical is not an option so please don't tell me to just push it manually.
So any suggestion on what he can do?

It was an honest question. It's a nexus 5, and this is XDA. Logic would dictate that a moderately technical method would be the first thing to attempt when it's not happening the regular way. It just doesn't make sense to me. I know I'm not the only person here with the same line of thinking. If you are asking XDA for help, we are gonna say sideload or flash it.
Okay yes it makes sense to just do it manually, it's the first thing I do when I get an android device, but it isn't me, it's not my phone and I was asking was there anything my friend could do. If you don't believe me, fine, not like I care or maybe check out my posting history before casting judgment.
So I'll ask again, in a different way, given the staggered rollout of OTAs, is there a time line as to when the roll out is complete? What happens when the OTA in question is not a current one?

Sideloading the OTA is the exact same as waiting for the OTA. The only difference is that you download the zip yourself instead of waiting for it to show up to download. The actual process is the same because its the exact same file being flashed/sideloaded.
If you are not willing to spend 5 minutes to sideload/flash it, then wait. It could come today, it could come in 6 months. There is no way to tell how long it will be until it's rolled out to you.
Taking into consideration how much against "anything even remotely technical" you are, you should just do it the non-XDA & non-Nexus way and wait like every other device.

I think it was all just a miscommunication. I kinda took it as you not being willing to sideload, as opposed to you being physically unable to, and I'm pretty sure Lethargy did as well. That's where my response came from, and I apologize if it came across as snarky. That said, you should put the pressure on your buddy to sideload. He's got the perfect device to get his toes wet with.
Cheers guys, I know it's easy to get riled up and I'm guilty of it myself in this case too. So I also apologise for getting pissy.

It's all good. Since you didn't mention it in the first place, I assumed you had access to the device but didn't want to because it was your friend's, not that you don't have access at all.
I'd still recommend you tell your friend to sideload it, it's a bit silly to buy a Nexus 5 then use it as if it was an annoying Samsung device. Only takes a few minutes of small effort, he learns something, and gets Lollipop right away - compared to no effort, learning nothing, and waiting patiently for anywhere from days to months.

But well that's not the point ^^

I already googled but.. Well I don't won't to use a 350€ device just as a desk clock

There's nothing wrong with using an iPhone. I have an iPhone 6 that I use, and I love it. It's a seriously awesome device. Just do what I do, and switch between the two. Sometimes I feel like using Android and when I do, I use my N5 or 2014 Moto X. And sometimes I feel like using my iPhone. So I just pop the SIM card out and switch phones at my leisure.
If that's not an option you could use it as a dedicated media player. Or a WiFi only web device. Use it for everything you used to use it for except making calls.

No prob bud. I wouldn't want to sell my N5 either, it's amazing how well it's held up even though it's over a year old. Like I said before, I have a 2014 Moto X and I still use my N5 all the time. I always sell my old devices to pay for my new ones but the N5 was an exception. I actually did sell my first one, and ended up regretting it so much that I sold my OnePlus One to buy a new N5 a few months ago lol.

OnePlus 6 Development Rate

Hey guys,
Just curious as this is the first time I've been around for a new device release and I'm used to getting a device long after developers have had them for quite a while.
Not that I'm complaining - but is this the usual rate of development for a new device?
Really appreciate all the great work you guys do! If I can help with anything let me know

Was just mentioning this is Telegram. I am aware of 4 kernels and 1 ROM being developed (not all yet available). I think with A/B partitions it's taking a little longer for development to start as we don't have an official TWRP yet (and I mean this in comparison to OP5) but if you're looking for a device with good developers support, you won't go wrong with the OP6.

I would report your thread and have it locked before the lazy keyboard warrior nerds come around to argue with you. I tried to ask what stage of development we're in and of course it was immediately interpreted as demanding an exact timeline of when we'll have ROMs and crap. Had to report-to-lock my own thread because people were acting unbelievably childish. The funny thing is even the mod who responded to the report seemed to be sick of the users' crap on here.
I would say this isn't anything unusual given the challenges of developing for this specific device. Many phones go weeks or months before even getting root. OP is dev-friendly, of course, but the A/B partition issues and other things are slowing roll-out a bit.

I'm definitely not demanding nor expecting - but am willing to help where I can.
Your post answers exactly all I wanted to know - just wanted the opinion of someone who has been around a few new device forums to see what is and isn't normal.
It looks to me (from your post) like development is moving along pretty nicely then considering how new the device is/new challenges involved.
Again really appreciate the non confrontational reply.

I missed your reply initially! Really informative as well thank you
What 4 kernels are those? I know of Chewie/CleanSlate and Franken kernel?
Also if you don't mind me asking what ROM do you know of?

Interesting! I hope people can quite clearly see I'm not expecting nor am I entitled to anything.
Just trying to gauge something I have no experience of from other people who have more experience.
Last phone I had was a OnePlus One... I got it many months after release due to the whole invite only thing and development was already pretty insane by the time I got one in my hands

People can be testy about these kinds of questions because they are sometimes asked in a much more disrespectful/entitled tone.
To be honest, I think development is moving along pretty well, and certainly faster than what I'm used to from HTC phones (which are a different dev situation).

Those three plus Flar. I keep an eye on GitHub and can see that he has created a OP6 repo though it was empty last time I looked.
Sent from my OnePlus6 using XDA Labs
