Hi!
I have a new nexus 5 and when the phone arrived, It couldn't hear any buzzing sound or any rattle sound. My first Nexus 5 made little noises near the camera section. The new nexus 5 didn't... but now I can hear the same sounds if I shake the mobile...
Is it a normal sound?
Thanks
Yeah I think its due to OIS (optical image stabalization).
Thanks. I'm better...
But...
I need more answers
UP
The real question is, why are you shaking the phone?
Nothing good can come from shaking an electronic device.

Tried covering the left speaker holes at the bottom while playing audio almost completely muted the sound, covering the right has no effect, sound can be heard.
I know this is normal for an iPhone 5s as it only have one driver extending the sound to the other speaker holes, but is it the same for nexus 5?
Edit: it is a monospeaker on the left, Sry for posting such stupid question -.-!

Nexus 5 has a mono-speaker and it's quiet as hell even at max volume.

I'm not religious at all, but I do presume that if hell existed, it wouldn't be silent
Hi there, I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before but after a search I found no answer. I read on some other similar post that the Nexus 5 has two speaker looking outs in the button, the one in the left is the actual speaker and the one on the right is a microphone so therefore no sound will be coming out of it. But what about that speaker looking thing up top in the middle? As far as I'm aware it is a front speaker but I'm getting no sound at all when playing music through there, haven't made any calls with my N5 just yet so I was wondering if this speaker only works to output the audio when making calls?

That is the speaker for phone calls. It has lower volume but better fidelity.

Thanks a lot! I knew it was kinda common sense but I figured I'd ask before I panic and RMA my phone haha.
Nexus 5 Only has 1 speaker.
Gave it a test and yes, you guys were right front speaker is for phone calls only. Bottom left speaker is a speaker and bottom right is a mic, thanks!
Sorry if this has been asked before. I have tried Google and haven't found an answer yet. Is it possible to use the speaker on top (used for phone calls) in conjunction with the speaker on the bottom to increase volume? I understand that front facing speakers would be better when to comes to sound compared to side or back facing ones.
Wut

Underpowered battery for a 5inch 1080p screen that is non-removable. Weak generic antenna that drops signal. Worst speaker of any device on the market. Weak vibration motor. Power button rattles. Cheap plastic build

Can I use the top speaker on the Nexus 5 along with the bottom speaker in order to increase volume?

Buys a $400 phone, expects it to be as good as an $800 phone.
Really? You people are ridiculous. This phone is amazing and all you can do is point out the small negativities. Go buy an $800 phone on contract for $200-300 and shut up please.

This. I'm tired of all the sissies nitpicking the Nexus 5.
Hey all,
Just a quick question (No, I won't ***** about RMAing ****s left and right)
Do N5 camera lenses make small rattle-like noise when you type with touch vibration on?
I've seen somewhere that due to its OIS system, it will make some noise in certain condition
Just wanted to confirm
Thanks in advance

Yes, mine makes a rattle sound, but I don't think it's coming from the camera. I always thought that it was from the volume keys rattling.

It can also be the vibrator motor.
If you hold the buttons, they can't rattle. Probably best not to shake the device though

Yeah I can confirm that there is some other parts also rattling than buttons. This rattle appears when shaking phone to certain direction or tapping top of the phone (if you know what I mean). It seems to be camera lens or atleast the rattling seems to come from somewhere near camera.
Edit: the noise is indeed the lens. Just tried to tap it when using camera and there is no rattle cause I guess camera somehow "locks" the lens. Anyways, these devices are not made for unnecessary shaking and searching for rattling sounds. Just interesting to know the source of that little "rattle".
RMA RMA RMA.... Lol I kid.

Hi, I have found something curious. When I start shacking my phone I can hear noise coming from the top part of it, it sounds like a loose screw or something like that do you also have it? Is it a camera stabilization or my device is broken and I should replace it?

Likely the camera OIS module, I find just about any phone makes some sort of loose item noise if you shake it hard enough. My Pixel 2 also has a rattle though it's pretty muted compared to other phones I've had.

I just now picked up my Nexus 5x and shook it, and it seems you are correct - it makes a rattling sound also (as if something is loose). It's not surprising though, considering how many times I've dropped/tossed it, both accidentally and purposefully. I wonder if it made that noise when I first got it...
Stop shaking your phone!
Seriously though, just the ois module. Your phone is fine. lol

Yes, replacement is same
I noticed a loose sounding noise if I tap the top of the phone on the left or right edge or behind the earpiece. At first I also thought it might be the OIS. But then I notice I get a similar sound from the speaker at the bottom, if I tap the phone on the bottom edge.
Then I checked on my old Nexus 4, which does not have OIS, and it makes exactly the same type of slight rattling sound if I tap the phone on the top edge by the earpiece.
So I think there is some sort of moving part in cell phone speakers (after all something has to move to create sound waves) that rattles a little if you tap or shake the phone in the right way.

Are you joking? Because that makes no sense. I hear this type of rattling coming from the top speaker. And I hear it separately coming from the bottom speaker. There is only one haptic feedback engine in the phone so it could not produce a rattling noise in two different places in the phone. (Also from Jerry Rig's teardown, we know the haptic feedback engine is in the bottom of the phone, so it can't explain a rattling noise coming from the top of the phone.)

I assumed it was that.
You said the top which could be the camera the. You mention a second one at the bottom and why u said haptic feedback. [emoji3]

I didn't say haptic feedback, you said haptic feedback.
I also clearly said that it was the same type of noise coming from both the top and bottom of the phone, which means it would have to be the speakers, since that's the only thing there are two of, one in each of those positions. And I said that I had the same type of noise coming from the earpiece on my Nexus 4. So the whole point of my first post was that I was ruling out OIS, which others had suggested, and felt pretty confident the sound comes from the speakers. I wasn't looking for suggestions. I was explaining my reasoning for why it seems like it's the speakers that make the sound.

My LG K4 2017 ($100 smart phone with headphone jack) phone doesn't. Galaxy S6 doesn't. Galaxy S8 doesn't. Lol, so no, not all phones do it. Only google specifically ones (that are defective) which make these noise lol.

Why are you saying its fine when its not? lol... other phones with OIS don't make the noise.. Stop justifying for google's manufacturing defects.

As I explain in my posts, I think the slight rattling noise actually comes from the speakers, not the OIS. I think the OIS guess is wrong. I've explain my reasons in more detail above.
However, in order to get the sound you have to tap the edge of the phone in just the right place and just the right way. It's easy to shake or tap the phone and not get the sound at all. So I'm pretty sure I could get this sound on all of the phones you mentioned. In fact, next time I'm in a carrier store I'll try the S8. I think it's just something speakers do. I've tried several different model phones and they all do it.
Hi guys...
Do you feel the back of the phone vibrating when playing a video/song on the loudspeakers?
Thanks
I feel the vibrations on my fingers.
yes i also feel the same. it is near oneplus logo

.
So it's normal...
I felt it on my S10 as well
what do you mean by vibrations? does the body rattle distorting the audio? can you post a video so we can get an idea
For anyone interested...
It's there in mobiles with actual dual speakers.
My sis and bros S10 and pixel 3xl have it as well on their devices.
My friends Xs doesn't as it has a heavy set frame(probably).
Pixel 3xl has the most.
Mods close the thread please.
Thanks
Yes, I doo and my friends do feel that ... It's quite normal . I assume top speaker actually exists a bit away from that top grill.. that's where you feel vibration
Front speaker in the earpiece make my OnePlus 7 vibrate. Vibration is so much that it feels like an hardware issue. During phone and also during music or video playback. Anyone facing same issue. Is it natural or did I received a faulty product.
