[Q] No OS installed on my Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, I am in a big problem with my Nexus 5.
I tried to root my nexus 5, and with all precautions except one Enabling the USB debugging. It installed SuperSU, but is still not root.
I thought of doing it from scratch. Then I went to recovery mode, And by-mistake wiped everything, left with no OS installed.
Now Please help me, My internet is very very slow and my data is limited 400mb. I can't download the 526mb Android L file.
Please anyone can send his Backup file, which can be restored. I just need it for week as my Internet would be recharged back, as I have to go to college and need Phone for important calling. Please help me
PLEASE! Provide me a backup file which can be restored. Any Help would be greatly greatly appreaciated.
THANKS

The nandroid backup for our device is almost 2 gb . If you can't download the stock image , how can you download that ?
That being said , try asking a friend/colleague - maybe they can download it for you and put it on a usb drive or something.
If you can't do that why not look for a place with free wifi or (if they still exist ) an internet caffee and download it there.
The most straightforward way is flashing the factory image...

A lollipop rom is around 150mb. Banks gapps is around 65. You still have around 185mb left..

[Q] Help once again...

Ok first of all meryy xmas eve to everyone. second, i promise to stop these noob threads after today. i will finally be attempting a moderate mod to my cappy in about an hour or two. I will be getting odin and hopefully put 2.2 on my phone. the gps made me very angry today so im ready. ive read all over the odin threads and saw it messed up a few peoples phones and then ive seen some complaints about flashing a new rom. well i am a big noob and i dont know what flashing is but i will try it. if anyone can help with some solid proven advice i will sure as heck appreciate it. and any developers online that don't mind breaking some of the lingo down for me and guide me i will be ever so happy. so this is what is done to my phone...
I downloaded rz's oneclick laffix from the app market.
i rooted through it and installed lag fix.
i also downloaded rom manager and downloaded clock work as well.
i backed up my rom i guess and thats about it.
do i need to do anything to my phone before installing odin? aand what about my apps i paid for? if i download titanium and back them up will i still have them after i get odin and the new rom? and where do i get the stock 2.2 rom? well any help will be greatly needed and i will donate to whomever that decides to take some time to help. if its allowed? im not sure if that is a bad thing. well thanks guys. hope to hear from someone asap. Jimmy
You're doing it wrong. All wrong. OCLF is meant to just be by itself, you are suppose to remove it when flashing any ROM anyways.
ODIN (depending on version you have) can flash your ROM with a stock ROM or a custom ROM (where you specify files). I'm not sure what you are trying to do here buddy.
Do it like this..
Backup any files you may have and want to keep before you flash
(Assuming you are starting with stock rom)
> Make sure your USB device mode is set to USB Debugging (go to Settings > Applications > USB Mode)
1 - One Click Root (Find it in these forums)
> Run and it will reboot your phone into recovery
> Install from update.zip (if it fails, restart step 1 until works)
2 - Download Busybox (from Marketplace)
> Run and install
3 - Drop the ZIP file of your ROM of choice onto the SD Card (on your phone) in the main directory
4 - Download ClockworkMod Recovery (from Marketplace)
> Run and Flash Clockwork (select your corresponding device, I assume Captivate)
> Reboot into recovery, do not download ROM from the application.
5 - In recovery mode, select update.zip it should push you into Clockwork
> Install ZIP from SD Card through directory paths on the menu system
It'll do "magic" , just wait. Your screen will distort, this is normal. When the magic is done, reboot. Voila.
Please learn to read.
Better yet..

[Q] late night phone spaghetti. x10 mini pro help please!

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some pointers on the path to 2.1 on my x10 Mini Pro, and hoping the wealth of knowledge between you all can set some things straight for me?
I'll apologise in advance if I ramble at all or don't make much sense... I've been browsing forums for hours and am suffering from mild cross-eyedness and slight brainfreeze.
The scenario;
I have an x10 mini pro, running 1.6, on Vodafone UK. Yes, the ONLY network that have not yet provided the 2.1 update for x10mp users. The phone was rooted with universal androot and also had astro file manager and titanium installed. For about three months I have had the 'starting download' hang problem in Market which I have not been able to fix. I hadn't really wasted much time on it as it was of little importance at the time however I now want to update some things and can't. Today I got annoyed and did a factory reset, hoping to resolve the problem. It didn't, and now I have a blank canvas of a phone.
I didn't back up before doing the reset as call logs and txts are of less importance that the files on my sd card, which remain untouched. I don't really have any other 'important' stuff on the phone right now.
I realised shortly after that I had a backup from December which I ran, as a last ditch attempt, this did not restore my lost applications, but did restore some user data. I noted that my root privileges and titanium were gone too
B*gger it, I thought, since I've lost all my data I may as well go for a generic NON-Vodafone installation of Android 2.1, and hopefully that will also fix the Market issue.
I've had a look on forums here and would like to run the 2.0.2.a.0.24 firmware posted by shivenjuneja.
I've downloaded this via pc, and understand I need to also install the flashtool and xrecovery, both of which I have downloaded and saved in a folder on my laptop.
Now remember, market was not an option so I've downloaded universal androot via pc too and have saved this to the root of the SD card.
With my primitive blank phone, I am unable to browse to it without a file manager, so now I need to download Astro File Manager again.
I decide to have a probably fruitless attempt of doing this via the market (because saving it on the SD card is pointless as I need it installed in order to browse to it!) and much to my amazement, it's worked!! Woohoo Market is working again! But hell, I've still lost everything on my phone so I'll perservere with my android update, thank you very much.
Ok, now while waiting for Astro to download, I remember that I've also read on the forum that the upgrade to 2.1 is likely to be stuck in a booting loop if I upgrade with user data on the phone. If I do a factory restore I will lose my file manager and root privileges that I will shortly be installing, right?
So now, at this hour, I'm wondering exactly what order I need to do everything in to get 2.1 on my phone.
To install 2.1 I need to install the flash tool and xrecovery. To install those I need root, to root I need Astro and before doing any of this I need a phone that has no user data on it.
D4mn you Vodafone.
Could anyone advise the best method to do all of the above i.e in what order to do it all, or point out if there is anything obvious I haven't accounted for.
I don't usually have a problem with this sort of thing, hopefully it will look clearer tomorrow!
Thanks in advance
K
Also, does registering your google login to use the Market count as 'user data' when you upgrade? I ask as I may need to download and install Astro again from the market, if it's still working after another reset?
A lot of view and no replies? I could really use your advice guys if anyone could oblige...
From further reading I understand that I need busybox to install xrecovery and that I also need to be on 2.1 054 as xrecovery won't install on 1.6?
Is this correct?
It sounded so simple initially to flash from 1.6 to the latest version of 2.1, whereas now I need this to install that, need to be on the later version to install the app I need to use to flash to the next version up, and have to have a bunch of other apps and tools installed in order to the able to run anything!
All I want is a rooted 2.1 with all the network and SE bundled crap removed, so I can start putting my phone back to how I bl00dy want it with the apps I choose!
I hate you Vodafone. IhateyouIhateyouIhaveyouIhateyou

[Q] Bricked my Relay with a build.prop edit

Hi everyone. Long-time reader, first time poster here.
Well, I've gotten myself in a bit of a jam. My Relay is rooted and has CWM 6.0.1.2 running the stock ROM per one of the awesome devs working on this phone. In a bout of zeal, I found a guide for installing Google Wallet on unsupported devices that involved editing the build.prop file to have the device identify itself as another. I dove in head first... My first mistake was not doing a CWM backup and my second mistake was that I backed up the build.prop file to the internal memory rather than the external SD card (seems pretty inaccessible there). After rebooting, the device black-screened after the Relay 4G splash and can only be brought back up by pulling the battery, though it still gets stuck at startup.
I had a look around and found these very similar threads, but they are for the S3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895631
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830191
I can also get into CWM and Odin mode, but Odin3 and adb don't see the device for some reason and CWM doesn't appear useful without a backup. From what I've gathered, the easiest way to recover from this is a flashable zip with the stock build.prop file.
Would anyone be able to make one of those or otherwise bail me out? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: If it helps any, I used ES File Explorer to do this, which apparently doesn't do permissions quite right. I'm not sure if it affects this, but I figured I'd throw it in here anyway.
Bumping in desperation here! Can anyone just paste in their build.prop? I'm on UVLJ1 (haven't had time to do the latest update due to root).
hmm... you should be able to go into download mode and flash the stock rom to recover the phone i think?
I think this is the answer. Flashing stock will give you what you need, it can be done through CWM (gee one's flashable zip for instance).
Wipe system/data through the format menu.
I wish I knew what a build.prop was.
installed it and rebooted my Samsung Relay and the screen went black. I pressed the power button and nothing happened.
The phone is now officially a paperweight. Also I had root privileges.
Can you help me please, I do not know what to do?:crying:

I'm not very good at this also,but...Can you connect your phone to your computer and mount your phone from cwm and get the build.prop file that way?Or maybe do a factory reset?

[Completed] Unable to transfer large backup from computer to phone

Hello All,
Noob here, I have searched and searched for an answer to my problem to no avail. I recently rooted my Sprint (ls990) LG G3 phone and had TWRP make a recovery for me which I placed on my computer for safe keeping and also because the file is a little over 5gb. I, being the Noob that I am went poking around the advance features on TWRP and hit fix permissions Now my phone wont boot up and gets stuck at the LG startup screen. I am still able to get into TWRP use those features so i decided why not just move my backup from my computer to my phone and perform a recovery and hope all is fixed. This is where i ran into a problem, This backup is too big for my phone and wont let me copy it back, i have tried hjsplit to split it up and move the splits parts to my phone only to discover that i cant re-combine them from my computer on my phone i have used 7-zip to compress the backup but still too big. i compressed and then split them but still unable to rejoin the files once on my phone. I'm turning to you guys to help me get over this hurled. Please help.

Hi, thanks for using XDA assist!
First, please create an account so you can post in other forums.
Do you have a removable SD card for your device? If so, be sure you are moving the TWRP backup to the TWRP backup folder on your SD card, not internal storage.
After creating your account, you can ask for more help here:

A real amateur!!

Hello to the crew at XDA!!!
Thought I'd register and see if I can get a lil help/guidance from anyone.
I have the Oneplus one (recently discovered it is called bacon) , the 64gb model.
My story goes a lil something like this.........
I was playing around with my phone at the weekend and noticed it had TWRP, does this mean my phones been rooted? In my mind, TWRP menu would be bios on a pc.
Anyway, so I was looking around bios and somehow managed to delete everything off my phone, no apps and no contacts and I should of left this WELL alone but it was too late, I'd lost my phone :crying:
I have been trying to learn about flashing/dirty flash, md5's, ROMs, gapps, etc. I managed to get an OS on the phone but no apps. The gapps I tried to flash(install) just froze, thought it'd take time, I gave it time and so no joy. So I am wondering can someone guide me to the version I had on the phone before or tell me a better OS and corresponding gapps that can customize what google apps I can put on without slides, sheets, newsstand, stuff like that please? And I guess all I have has gone but I still have the files on my phone for example, CSR 2, Facebook, etc. Is there anyway of getting the apps I once had, as well as my contacts?
Please go easy on me, I'm totally new to all this and only learning because I had no choice but I am finding it quite interesting. I never knew there's so many OS options. Heard of rooting but the fear of bricking my phone kept me clear but I want my apps n stuff back, if poss.
Sorry for the looooong winded essay! but at least you know what I've done to lose all my stuff.
Your Patience is greatly appreciated!! :good:

Hello Azhar_Farhy,
I do apologise for such a vacant response from me, busy days
Thank you for your reply I must say also.
I had tried as per your instructions and lineage OS did install but came up with flash errors, did write them down as:
Patching system image unconditionally
E: unknown command (log)
E: unknown command (log) in red letters
I also copied the md5sum, wrote it in txt in windows. Copied it into same place as OS flash but didn't find it??
So as for the OS goes, it's been unable to a point. It loads ok, the gestures are mixed up (I noticed 'V' brought up camera and 'O' brought up the torch), not that I use them anyhow. But using the browser, some pages work and alot don't so that's my issue with the OS.
Now with the gapps,
I had issues flashing this altogether. This came up with an error code 70?
Error as follows:
E: Error executing updater binary in zip''/sdcard/Download/open_gapps-arm-7.1-stock-201705010zip
Error flashing zip *followed by the same error path as above??
So as you might of guessed, I'm still without any apps and forced to use a tired s3 atm but may consider changing it up once it got the hang of it on the phone in question.
And in other news......, have a my contacts!!!! So that was a close call!! ??
I'll look forward to anyone's interested in the matter ☺.

The two errors because of twrp not at latest version, but isn't a problem the flash isn't compromised. The gapps didn't flash because stock package is too big, use nano instead and download others from PlayStore. So wipe once again dalvik, system, data and cache then install lineageos + gapps and reboot, complete the first startup procedure with your google account and you will have your contacts back.
Gapps error 70 happens because you don't have enough space in root. You are trying to flash gapps-mini or higher. Flash micro and then download the other Google apps you need from the store.

Hi Lisko,
I chose the stock gapps package because I thought it would be the package that was on before I cleaned it off?
And I'm not able to get any apps at all, not even Google play is on the phone I tried to go to browser and download but it says it's already installed so yeah, a bit confused with that one mate lol ?
I'll give nano a try. Will this help the browser issue as well? Most browser windows crash and close???
Thanks for the response ?

His seanwlk,
I'm not sure i follow when you say 'enough space in root'? Could you break it down in layman's terms please ??
I was flashing stock gapps which occurred the error, which I thought stock would of been appropriate for the phone. But I do want to shave some apps off, you say to flash gapps mini. Lisko says nano. Is there alot of difference between the two, other than being lighter on space?
Thank you for your response ??

Mini is still too big, here is the packet comparison https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Package-Comparison
The only difference between these is basically the amount of gapps that it contains.
Flash micro and download the rest you need from play store.
With space in root I mean this:

Good afternoon all.
Really sorry for being a month later to get back to you all but I've been snowed under the past month with work and just haven't had time to get back to you! Please accept my apologies
In regards to the lineage is and gapps, the OS does work but it's browser crashes on every page which is mostly annoying and so I tethered my phone to my tablet which works but I just discovered that chrome works without issues, so yeah, I got gapps and fully operational ☺. Found all my numbers and apps so happy days!!!!
I will ask though, is there another OS I could use as there's so e things I can't seem to remove like the shortcuts on lock screen? Either I've got torch or camera open when I get it out of my pocket, OS browser crashes. There was something else but I can't remember....
And even though the phone is operational, I had the same errors when flashing both the OS and gapps. Saying errors on both but work okay?
I'm not sure where to find "root storage" to know if it has enough space, if someone could explain that, would be really helpful please.
Is there any other OS platforms that are a bit more functional than lineage please? Or anything cool to stick on and be different from most phones? ??
Just want to thank you to all those that have been really helpful!!! ???

If you're looking for customization I recommend Resurrection Remix.
link : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-resurrection-remix-t3507102
You had better flash nano gapps because of the size limit of system partition.
You can install other google apps such as chrome from play store.

Hello people of XDA!
I'm back ??.
I hope all is well with everyone here?
Might as well cut to the chase.
Can someone guide me to the original Marshmallow os for the opportunity please?
I've had the resurrection remix and I thought it was cool as you can modify absolutely anything, BUT, at the cost of apps crashing, phone not lighting up when someone calls and has been very frustrating to say the least. And I never got round (till now) to mention it.
I think the phone is on its way out as the battery drains like crazy and for some reason, whilst it's not in use, it still remains warm and battery still goes, even whilst at work and is in my coat. So I'm thinking of trying to save the last bit of the phone before it completely goes to data heaven.
Can anyone help? Pretty please? ???*
Thank you guys in advance!!

Many thanks C4SCA for that link but I'm afraid I don't have a pc at hand. All I used was the phone to flash the files but with that link, flashing is not possible.
Is there another way to sort this dilemma....pretty please?

Hi guys,
This just proves how much of an amateur i am. Spent the best part of about 35 mins writing my essay in 'quick reply', only for it to expire....and i was typing on my little Hudl2 keyboard....
So now i'm starting ALL over again, this time with otg cable and wireless keyboard. Let's see if i remember it all...... eh?
So in conclusion to your reply

, i have only just found out how to tether my phone to pc for internet. 21 days later to your reply but i whole heartedly appreciate your help.
With the reply last night, not having a pc at hand, i wasn't at home but i had done some looking around online and found that the marshmallow os is no longer to be updated, so, therefore, i looked around for a new & stable os for the oneplus 'bacon' & came across the pie os from watching Max Lee's (high on android channel) on Youtube. Claiming it's stable and battery life is good (that was my attraction to this).
So.....first things first (and this was all done without a pc, last night).
I backed up my phone to my hdd using the otg cable and backed up via twrp recovery as advised before by

I then searched for the pie os and found it on XDA site. But as i watched further on Max Lee's channel, i needed to update the twrp recovery ( mine was v2.8.0? i think?). Found twrp version 3.2.3 img file. downloaded it via phone, swtiched to recovery and wiped phone but reinstalled Ressurection Remix (as i backed up to hdd but needed an os to operate) then flashed latest twrp.
Instead of rebooting phone from recovery (don't know why i did this??) but i switched off the phone and back on. Knowing all apps and contacts were gone, i wanted to see if twrp had updated it'self. So i switched off the phone again and back to recovery, only to see that it would not load recovery at all......? It just froze with the oneplus logo (not even with 'powered by Android' at the bottom).
It would switch off by holding down the power button, would go to fastboot, would power back up but never into recovery.
So then today get's better...........!!!!!
I watched more about adb & fastboot on various channels on youtube, online and guides via xda and thought this is my only option to get it back open. So i went home and tried to sort this mess out by:
1, opening development options on phone & enable debuggin
2,download adb driver & fastboot from Max Lee's site
3,unzipped and loaded them into my pc
4,reconnected phone to pc to activate the debuggin message on phone screen( was none?)
This didn't work as my pc said there wasn't a driver for the adb (error code 28).
I updated my pc, even via windows update to restart updates, as some had failed. Pc all up to date.
In device manager, tried manual search for driver path (to universal adb file), no luck. Then tried to find online, still, no luck as pc said to find vendor/website host? Most search for driver came up with the same Universal adb download.
Tried to then fix the code 28 by installing intels adb driver and other adb driver's and still no joy.
But the thing i found strange was in Programs (uninstall), both Universal adb & fastboot were there. just can't find the link between them to the phone?
So i'm very frustrated by technology so no need to shout at me for doing silly things.....But i guess that's how we learn to fix things i guess?
If anyone who has read this and willing to help a fool out, i sincerely appreciate this! :victory: PLEASE?
Without fastboot (code 28)
without twrp recovery
Basic Ressurection os
Without my contacts & apps & life stuff.
Not able to backup from hdd
Stuck............
FYI.
PC is Intel i3, running windows 7 32 bit. Should that help anyone with my issue.
Yours sincerely,
My-man-G
Have you go into fastboot mode? Turn off your phone, then boot using power+vol up.
