i love this forum. just followed the direction and got it to work on the first time. thanks to the people that actually figured this out. here's how i did it
first download the modified flash player apk. i got it from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9502517&postcount=3
remove any other flash player that you have and intall this one. maybe reboot in between to be safe.
also, get dolphin browser from market.
next just follow these directions i got from another thread. i modified it a little since the flash apk is already modified
The trick for getting Hulu working is to do these things:
1) Use Either Dolphin Browser or SkyFire
2) In the browser, Settings...set User Agent to "Desktop"
3) In Advanced Settings set Plugins to "Always On"(Default is "on demand"))
4) Install the Adobe flash player from link above
5) Install AdFree from the marketplace
6) Start AdFree, it will want to create the Host file. If it exists when you run it, it will hang and not complete the installation.
7) When AdFree comes up there is an option to "Revert" click this button to allow ads, Hulu needs this to work.
8) Reboot to clear the host cache.
9) Turn back on AdFree Host file restrictions if you like after you're done with the Hulu Goodness! Enjoy!
i went to hulu and it works great. i haven't had any issues so far. watched a whole episode of Simpsons to test it out.
just tried the stock browser and it worked also. so i guess you don't need dolphin to do watch hulu now. i think the modified flash apk is what did the trick. i did change the setting in the stock browser same as in the dolphin.
This works with beta4 and stock browser.
ETA scratch that just forces my tablet to reboot just after the commercial finishes.

Wow...good find
I was going to test it but hulu costs eight bucks a month. TV. Com costs nothing. Is it worth the money?

with this hack, hulu is free.
one thing i had happen. when i was watching hulu on the stock browser, somewhere near the middle, the browser forced closed. after that, i couldn't get the stock browser to load up after that or the dolphin either. i turned the tab off, and when i tried to start it up, it went into a reboot loop. not sure it that's related to the rom or what i did to get hulu to work. i just reloaded everything and will try it again. will keep people posted.
Will this only work with VEGAn or can this be used with stock firmware also?
well, after i reset everything, i tried first watching a full episode of Seinfeld on dophin browser and it worked fine. then, i watched a full episode again with stock browser. it worked fine too. i guess the crash i had wasn't related to the hulu fix.
noticed something interesting. when i go to google.com, there's a little link to download the chrome browser. when i clicked on it, it gave me the download page but for mac 0S X 10.5 or later, Intel Only.

It works on the stock firmware, but you have to root your tablet first to use Adfree.
Works good, but breaks Market
I tried this and it worked great. Watched an episode of Family Guy. Then I tried the Market app and all the apps were gone. I the reapplied the Market fix and all is well. Thanks for the tip!
I had my fingers crossed that this would make Fancast.com (aka xfinity.com/tv) work, but it still seems to hang on the commercials for shows from any network other than CBS. Hopefully the Xfinity On Demand Android app will show up in January, as has been rumored.
not working
Don't know what I did wrong, but I followed the instructions in the first post. I get all the way to loading an episode when it tells me my device is not supported. Help.

I am having the same thing as the previous user, I am on Vegan beta 4, using dolphin HD and the flash player from the first post, and I had set my agent to Desktop. I do have the dolphin plugin desktop viewer (can't remember the exact name off the top of my head) but I did manually set the Agent to desktop, still get the device is not supported message.
That flash player actually fixed an issue i was having with the browser closing when trying to play a flash file.

Well this is my first post on XDA, but since BlueStacks came out and I've had a chance to play around with it, I had to ask how other XDA members were utilizing it. I've managed to get ADW Launcher EX on there with a bunch of apps including podcastr, halo reach stats, IMO, 4shared, appBrain and more. When I pull up the emulator the ADW desktop is set to the largest amount of icons on the homepage so it looks just like an Android Desktop OS would look like. I'm pretty excited with home snappy it runs and wondering if this could ever become an actual OS - this is really clean compared to Windows. It definitely needs to be fixed up but I like it.
Seems like BlueStacks might be taking it in a "Premium" direction though. The market won't work so the only way to get APK's is with there cloud app or via 4shared or the browser (apks). Also you have internet but not on your own wifi, I believe it connects to there server and routes you through it so watch what you are doing on it - when you pull up the browser its there homepage and there is no wifi settings even though I turned wifi on with the power widget.
Check out the screenshot and tell me what your doing with BlueStacks
This software dose not have a proxy so don't worry about it, its just a virtual player and its still a baby.
Here is a little post I did on FB about what I use it for
Hey guys, the posts have been a little slow so I thought I would as a question that we all can reply to, when you do use bluestacks what do you use it for?
I use mine for testing my apps I make or apps I want to use on none supported android devices, I also sometimes use it to play that piggy game that comes with it lol I also use it for web dev when I want to see how it looks like without finding my phone out lol
I still don't feel bluestacks is able to do what we all need it to do, I feel its down the bluestacks trying to limit us on how we use it and the player is good but at the moment still very unstable, I really hope they will get better and I keep watching, what about you what do you use it for and what's your view on it so far.
I would give there app 6/10

The web uses the connection of the pc and the browsers home page is just set to bluestack so your ok, people have been moding bluestack with no problems, your right they are heading for a pro version but you can install apps via the adb or web and other things like that.
I use bluestacks as a small window I made gizmostack that lets you resize the window, so I hope this lets you see one others might use it for good luck.
Since upgrading to ICS several days ago, two websites that I frequently visit on my tab are malfunctioning - seems to be javascript-related and somewhat browser independent. The sites are pcworld.com and nbcnews.com. In general, on pcworld.com, links don't work. Nothing happens when I tap them (they do highlight in light blue - that's all). On nbcnews.com, which forces the mobile site using some browsers, the links to stories and the down arrow to "show more stories" don't work. Both of these situations (pcworld and nbcnews) exist for the stock browser, Dolphin, and Chrome (also installed and tried Maxthon and Skyfire just to check - same issue there), but both sites work fine in Firefox and Opera. However, if I disable javascript in Dolphin, pcworld.com works fine, and I can link to stories on nbcnews. The "show more stories" in nbcnews.com still doesn't work but the screen behaves a bit differently when I tap it. Chrome, by the way, pretty much goes non-functional if I disable javascript in it - none of the browser control buttons such as bookmarks, recent sites, etc. work at all.
Pcworld was definitely working before going to ICS. I think nbcnews had gotten a little squirrelly. My conclusion that it's a javascript issue is based on the fact that disabling javascript restores link function to pcworld and at least to the nbcnews.com stories. Any thoughts?

I am currentlyon stock ICS DDLP5. it works fine with the stock browser. Also works with dolphin, firefox chrome and opera. No issues.
So now some people are actually getting the update from Verizon, and these websites seem to be working fine for them. I upgraded per Electron73's post. What might be different about my tab now than those who are getting upgraded by Verizon that would cause this issue?
Is it possible that the problem is that Electron73's instructions by which I upgraded to ICS result in a rooted device? I'm totally ignorant of this stuff and have no idea what possible problems could arise from being rooted. If that could be the problem, how can I unroot? I have no need to be rooted.
rooting only opening an acces to the device with administrator account... it only put 2 files to your device... one is a program to govern the root... superuser or supersu and another one is system/xbin/su binary files. that's it... to fully unroot you just need to delete this 2 files from your device.

Thanks. I've done that now. I didn't really think that would fix my problem, and it didn't.
I've read that people who got their tab updated by Verizon / Samsung (many by sending them in) have i815.07 V.LP10 / I815LP10 (note the .07) vs. the .04 that I have installed. Possible issue?

That's what I'm thinking. I wish electron could get an updated version. My wife is tired of seeing some elements on some of her favorite websites just not show up (images, links, etc). No way I'm unrooting until Verizon/Samsung get their OTA mess sorted out though.
As I mentioned, the websites that aren't working for me are failing in the stock browser, dolphin, chrome, and every other browser I've tried except Firefox, Opera, and now Puffin. Tonight I stumbled upon how to view the javascript console in the stock browser. When I view the javascript console after attempting to follow a link to an article on pcworld.com, I see a long ULR (with static.ak.facebook.com in the middle), followed by the console message "Given URL is now allowed in the Application configuration.: One or more of the given URLs is not allowed by the App's settings. It must match the Website URL or Canvas URL, or the domain must be a subdomain of one of the App's domains." there is a different message about Viewport argument value "device-width;" when I try to navigate the mobile nbcnews.com website. Pcworld works fine if I disable javascript; on the nbcnews mobile site, I can link to articles with javascript disabled but I still can't "Show more stories." Wierdly, about every 1000 tries or so (literally), a link or "Show more stories" will randomly work with javascript enabled, but only for one try.
Any ideas??
Yet another issue - hitting the back button in the stock browser, Dolphin, etc., usually doesn't take me to the previous visited webpage; it just reloads the current page (with some exceptions). If not for Opera and Firefox, my tab would basically be useless for web browsing. (Interestingly, Chrome does not have this issue even though it shares the stock browser and Dolphin's issue of not being able to follow links on nbcnews.com, pcworld.com, etc.) I like the device but am starting to wonder if I should give it up... Any idea if reverting to Honeycomb (!) would restore web browsing? HC was crap but at least I could use the browser.
Based on a little back and forth with Dolphin support and some deductive reasoning, it seems clear to me that any webkit-based browser is going to give me the same issues. I read this morning that Opera is getting ready to abandon its in-house web engine in favor of webkit. That will leave me with just Firefox and Puffin (which some say is insecure and in any case lacks a lot of basic features), neither of which I really like using.
So something seems inherently broken in webkit in the i815.04 V.LP10 version of ICS I have installed. I suppose many don't use their tablets extensively for web browsing so maybe this isn't an issue for most users, but I do browse a lot with it and now feel like my tab is "broken" (sort of the way I felt with Honeycomb that prompted me not to wait for Verizon to fix its failed update). I went so far as to buy a Nexus 7 yesterday morning, but I really didn't like the display and returned it in the afternoon.
I think in Electron73's post there was a link to a download that could be applied to return the tab to Honeycomb. Is that true, and if so has anyone tried reverting and then getting ICS through the OTA update? (It seems that people who have v.07 instead of .04 don't have the browsing problems I've been posting about.) If I reverted to Honeycomb (assuming that's possible) and couldn't get the update OTA, would Verizon / Samsung detect that it had been modified if I tried to get the update by sending it in as so many have had to do? Any other thoughts on possible fixes? Obviously I am pretty ignorant...

It seems as if my browsing issues may not be similar to what you're experiencing. What I was seeing on my wife's was images not showing up on certain shopping websites (no matter what browser she used) , and sponsored links not working in Google searches. I discovered the problem: the hosts file is NOT stock, and is set to block a lot of sites, or elements within them. I removed every entry in the file except for 127.0.0.1 localhost, and EVERY problem she was having has disappeared!

It was a bit of a PITA at first since none of my edits would stick. Finally found an app called Hosts Editor Pro in the Store. Soon as you open it up, it seems to replace the current file with a very basic one. Once I rebooted after that, I checked the contents of the file, and only the one entry was there.

So do you happen to know if she can follow links on the sites I mentioned (nbcnews.com, pcworld.com) without any problem? And go back to the previous page by hitting the back button? I think one person replied to my original question that they could not, but I'm still trying to figure out if it's some anomaly or a universal result of updating to 4.0.4 in this manner.

I tried to no-wipe first, but it hung for about a half hour, so I went back and did the wipe version.
I've given up on it. I'm giving the tab to my daughter, who won't care about a few browsing incoveniences. I went to Verizon today and bought a new one. I was nervous because I planned to return it if it wouldn't get ICS OTA and they said there would be a $70 restocking fee. But when they stuck the SIM card in and started setup, I could see that it already had ICS on it (the bright blue circle was spinning). The setup didn't look fresh (didn't start with the setup wizard or whatever it's called -- booted directly into the default homepage), even though the tab was sold as new and certainly appears to be. Also, Baseband is i815.04, not .07. My uneducated guess is that the've taken new ones in the warehouse that had Honeycomb and flashed ICS, then shipped them to the stores, so they won't have to deal with all the the returns.
Vote now!
I hate Chrome on mobile. It is next to useless and with it being available on the play store I no longer want to offer it at all in CROMI going forward.
Give me a good reason to keep supporting it otherwise it goes!
As I'm on your side, I will not give you any reason to incorporate it any longer. I sometimes use it, but I'd just as happily use the stock browser (right after install_ or Firefox (which is my current 'standard' browser, if there is anything like that to be found on Android). Most have speed issues, anyway.
Again: I vote for let it out.
EDIT: With Titanium Backup being incorporated into your excellent ROM, one can backup and re-install without needing moile data access anyway, so, as far as I'm concerned, there's a very valid line of reasoning against incorporating anything other than TB.
I personally use Chrome on all my devices- phone, tablet, PC, laptop, etc, and having all of my bookmarks and tabs is really convienent. And also just love how it looks!
Obviously, it doesn't really matter if you include it because you can just download off the play store but it's just one less thing we need to download
Anyways keep up the great work sdbags!

I think it will sneak into 3.1 (in fact I know it will as its sitting there looking ugly, staring at me right now ) but from then on it will disappear as an install option. I've been using it for the last hour and it is like working in treacle even with Browser2Ram installed. It does render pages nicely but there is no full screen option, typing is extremely laggy and dragging pages around is painful. The stock browser is 10000000% slicker and a pleasure to use in comparison. And it has more options.
Nail
Coffin
Final.
Vote for no chrome.
BTW, I think the tab is that the previous user talking about is the "Bookmarks Toolbar" where all the bookmarks shown on the tool bars, it's nice and convinience, but stills not worth to keep Chrome.
I use Chrome on all my devices for the sync abilities. While other browsers sync, they don't sync as comprehensively as Chrome. I also have 2 chromebooks, where it's the only option I have. Having said that, I can always install it like every other app I install.
Is there anything you tweak for the Chrome install?
The tab sync is that if you have a tab open on one device, you can go to another device and have it open the same tab - very useful when browsing on your phone and then deciding to switch to a larger screen, etc.

Thanks for clarifying. It's still in the next release but as a data app. Going forward it will then be saved and not disturbed.
chrome
I prefer chrome than stock.. I wouldn't mind downloading from the play store.
I prefer using Dolphin over Chrome, Chrome seems to have an issue downloading files Dolphin does it perfect every time because it has its own download app.
Asus Transformer Infinity running CleanRom 3.0.4
Personally, I don't use Chrome. Stock browser works well for me, especially with the tweaks.
I say the smaller the rom size the faster I can download and install it. Stay true to objective of a clean rom and let users add what they need from the Play Store.
I do use the Google apps and a few of the others. TB was giving me issues by not letting me use my upgraded key when installed from the rom so I had to skip it and download it from play store.

Yeah I've noticed that with tibu on the last few updates - I think it does a check. But I am leaving it in due to if you ever do a full wipe it's handy to be able to recover apps especially if you don't have internet available. It saved me a couple of times recently when in Japan.

It does check if the Pro license is legit -- you can sometimes (most of the times) keep it active when you select "Auto-... TiBu settings" or something along those lines from the Preferences. It should automatically carry over the license then, at least until you have an internet connection (that's when the first actual check is made). (I had to move the folder last time, so that no longer worked. That was a definite PITA.)
hello everyone,
I am still learning about programming stuff but I use android daily and there are my favourite apps which get worse after every update like UC Browser. This is the best app I've ever had to make use of. The most functional browser and also very convenient, but the way it gets annoying after every update is why I post this question today. I want to remove some features of an application and make it run like nothing happened. UC browser has just way too many ads like:
1- One the top of homepage of the browser
2- Adding sponsored speed dials automatically
3- Notifications about the news
4- Banner pops up anytime when using any application and UC running in the background
5- A whole scrolling feed of news and sponsored content on the home page of the browser
6- Automatically enables its own lock screen saver function
7- Adds widget or floating bubble/icon on its own which is rip off of iOS control centre
8- Asks for too many permissions which it does not even have features of or not required by a browser
Now many of you will say that they can all be disabled or just go with it if you want to use it so bad or suggest alternatives but UC browser is really good if we remove all the things mentioned above and I ask for help on removing these features manually from the apk resource itself.
I've heard about deconstructing apk and editing it but I need some proper instructions from someone to work on this or let someone else do it. If we can achieve this we might be able to remove annoyance from really nice applications like UC browser which will be beautiful and neat.
Thank You

Go here and find an older version, they have older versions of all kinds of apps.

Other than that, you're on your own. We are all volunteers here in our free time, no one has the kind of time to help you learn your way through this, you'll have to research and learn how to do it yourself. If it means that much to you then you'll do what it takes, if you aren't willing then it doesn't really matter to you to begin with.

If you're rooted, just install an ad filtering app
To decompile an app is very tough, if you are not used to it, forget

Ad blockers don't really help very much with ads that run in-app in my experience. Ad blockers are more effective when browsing the web via the various mobile browsers.

Thank you for the reply. it really means a lot to me to actually get rid of all the annoyance from that app which does not even offer a cleaner one which can be bought separately and it would be great if you could recommend me from where to start because this is what i came here for in the first place :].

You can use APKTool to decompile the app then modify it. Where and what you need to edit is something you'll have to figure out. After editing to suit your purposes, re-sign and re-compile the apk then use the app.
I would recommend using an older version of the app from APK mirror that wasn't such a pain. Then add the newer features from the current version that want to keep if you are going to go through the trouble of modifying an app, it may be easier this way instead of trying to remove things from the newer version.
