HDMI out - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I connected the tablet to my tv today via the hdmi out and had some odd color issues. Reds and yellows were way off. Has anyone else tried connecting this way and had any problems? Thanks

No problems here with a Samsung tv connected to it.

You didn't tweak any settings on the tv or tablet? I connected to an lg tv and have never had any issues with anything else that I've ever connected to it.

What you mean with "way off"? They aren't displayed as they should be or they have another hue? Show a picture if possible.
Try going to settings - HDM and change to "Native" instead sRBG in Colour correction preset.

I will redo the test and look especially for red and yellow colors and come back to you.

So I tried on another tv (hitatchi, first one was an lg). Screen mirroring worked better than console mode. The resolution was off in console mode. Colors weren't bad, but switching from sRGB to native didn't make much of a difference.

[Q] HDMI Lag

I went out and bought a micro HDMI to HDMI cable at frys the other day. It shows the picture and all but the xoom lags like none other when I put it in. Even a short swipe of the screen makes it pop up the add new widgets, wallpapers and so on. I was wondering what could be the problem with it? Its a non-rooted wifi only xoom.

Though this was working fine before! !!!!!
Mine works great with my LG set. The only thing when I plug it in the black bar at the bottom doubles in size on the xoom and doesn't reset after I unplug it. I have to reboot anyone have a fix?

I picked up a the cord and it worked great.
The only issue I found was neither tv I tried it on could adjust overscan. On one tv the size adjustments were greyed out? and the other didn't respond to changes to picture size.
I will test this when I get my cable this week, should have by Tuesday.

Does your TV have some sort of smoothing like running at 120Hz or 240 in some cases? If there's a "game" mode then usually that runs at 60Hz without a delay because it doesn't have to interpolate in-between frames.

Confirmed this works just change your AV setting on your tv and find the one that works best.

[Q] HDMI out, a very weird issue.

Heya guys
Im having a strange problem with my only 1 week old Transformer TF101. I was told, this would be the place to ask, so I really hope someone can assist me
I bought a Transformer as a HDMI-out multimedia solution for my TV and the first week everything worked like a charm. But suddenly, for no reason, it wont show on my LG 50" Plasma. I then tried it on my older Samsung in the bedroom and to my surprise there was no problems connecting the tablet, it showed right away.
I then figured, cable? So I took the cable from the bedroom, but with no succes. HDMI-in on TV then, i thought? But nope. Everything else shows connecting it with the TV's HDMI. PC etc.
I am currently sitting with tablet I cannot use for the purpose I bought it for. What to do? Any help, is very much appreciated!
Ps. my plasma tells that something is connected to the HDMi and even tries to connect, but the tablet does nothing and then the TV says "no signal".
There is no way to change any setting for hdmi on the tf, so I guess yor tv is the problem. Maybe you changed a setting? I only had a problem wit over- and underscan. Try looking into the tv menu... thats my guess

I didnt change anything in the TV's menu and ive looked for settings that could have an influence, but non found. I had the tablet unplugged and when I plugged it to the HDMI the next day, it didnt work, after working 100% for almost a week.
Try a custom kernel. Last year the tf had trouble displaying on some TVs like Sony. About September or so an update came out that solved the issue. I'm guessing the stock kernel still has trouble with LG TVs.

But if it worked? And to be honest, I wouldn't want to have to flash a custom kernel just for simple HDMI out!
And that it works on the other TVs is also strange. I have a LG Monitor and have no problems...
You could just try reseting it to ensure that it's not something in the tablet. Or reset the TV?
So.... something strange has happened.
After not having worked for 2 days, it suddenly worked again. The tablet detects the connected HDMI cabel and the picture shows on the plasma instantly. Im like what the ****? I havent changed anything on neither the tablet or the TV. Dunno if I should be happy or worried, since id like for it to work, when I actually have to use it
I heard from someone that its better to use the HDMI/DVI, than the regular HDMI on the TV, im currently using. Can anyone confirm this?

G2X as Android TV box

My G2X is currently sitting in a drawer, and I was wondering how well it would function as a dedicated set top box for my HDTV. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and has any suggestions on a good rom to use, as wells as accessories.
I was thinking it would be cool to use it as a DLNA client and possibly set up a NAS server. I would also want a keyboard and mouse for web surfing as well as a game controller for playing games. Netflix is also a no brainer. I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work just as well as those cheap android TV boxes coming out of china.
Any Advice?
This may just be my experience but I have had a lot of trouble getting a stable video from my HDMI on it. It may be the rom (EB, 4.0.4 AOSP) but I'm not so sure this phone was ever designed for that. It's possible, maybe, but I wouldn't hold your breath..
I am able to get stable HDMI output. I played some games with my G2X/P999 attached to an LCD screen via HDMI. I'm using the stock V21Y ROM.
Don't see why it wouldn't work. And with CM7.2 you can use a bluetooth mouse, too.

Any other suggestions on ROMs? Are there any ICS ROMs that have solid 1080p output? I used the HDMI out with cyanogenmod but if I remember correctly it didnt work that smoothly.
With the announcement of full featured XBMC for android I think this could work out pretty well!

More than certain this can be done. I've used my g2x to play Game Boy / Game Boy advance games on my 55 inch TV before with a wii remote. Played for a good 4 hours. Although it did overheat and reboot a few times... Though I'm willing to bet that was due to the fact my phone was OC at 1.4GHz and I don't think that emulator had a frame rate limit. Also I've used it to stream from my NAS using es file explorer and mx player to get the best out of the phone. For streaming I watched 4 episodes of Pokemon approx 170mb each episode in one go.
What I did notice though is that if you are going to be using it for this it will drain the battery faster than it can charge. I've never fully drained the battery while it was plugged in during my use so you are going to have to experiment a little on your own to find out how long it lasts.
I finally went out and bought a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and I can confirm that with an app called "Blueinput" (free but adds text ass your typing unless you register it for 9.99Eur) it does work. You can hook your phone to a charger, mini hdmi to your tv, connect bt mouse and keyboard via blueinput and sit back and use the phone via bt mouse and keyboard. I went full nerd. I bought a logitech keyboard that was made for ICS and has the google buttons on the keyboard, but I'm running cm7 and they dont register in the bt test section of blue input. The mouse is a little touchy, and there is no pointer, so no ability to click the background and add widgets, but any item on the screen can be selected with the mouse and the right click is back. I don't feel like loading ICS again to test on that, but next time I do I will let you all know how it works.
I also bought the wii classic that connects with a wire to the regular wii remote so I can map even more buttons and can now play snes and probably ps1 and better (haven't tried yet). Still think the G2X out does every other phone I have played with/rooted for people.
I have just purchased a g2x specifcally to try and use as a media player i will remove the mainboard from its case and put it into a 2.5" portabld hdd case for better ventilation, put a heatsink on the cpu and wire up some usb ports for extra connectivity, should it all work ok it should be a good little media box neatly packaged into a set top box type casing.
I do have a couple concerns
I have noticed people videos of mirroring from the g2x it only goes into fullscreen when playting a game or video but the desktop displays small, can that be changed and since I have no use for the lcd I want to have the hdmi permanent only output not mirroring.
will shows some pics of it all working when done, if it fails I will pretend I simply lost interest in the project and never be heard from again.
Just a suggestion, why don't you guys try xbmc android? Only problem is how to control it.

[Q] Should my Razr Maxx HD have specific HDMI settings?

A few months ago I bought a lightly used Razr Maxx HD on eBay. It was advertised as being in perfect condition and, after lots of use and rooting and unlocking the bootloader and flashing a dozen different custom ROMs it has worked perfectly for me.
A few days ago, for the first time, I tried using the micro-HDMI port to view video from my Maxx HD on an HDMI-equipped TV. I know that the cable works, the TV works and the HDMI input on the TV works because I used the exact same setup to view video from a Droid X2.
When I plugged the micro-HDMI cable into my Maxx HD I got NOTHING. Nothing happened at all. No icon in the system tray, no sign of any audio or video on the TV, no pop-up dialog box, nothing. The only change is that audio on the phone is muted (the phone display is unchanged). Since then I've gone looking for HDMI controls or settings on the phone. I haven't found any. Some threads point to Settings - DIsplay - HDMI for controls but my Settings - Display doesn't have any HDMI section.
Right now I'm running RageHD 1.2 (4.1.2). The dev said I shouldn't be having this problem. I've tried half a dozen 4.2 ROMs but I'd prefer a less fancy ROM where everything (I think) works to a newer one that always seems to have a few glitches. I used TWRP to replace RageHD with fairly recent versions of 4.2 ROMs I'd installed before to see if that would solve my problem. It didn't. I'm back on RageHD because I like the stability and functionality but I'm willing to experiment.
I always make an effort to find answers before I ask questions. What am I missing here? Is my phone defective? Am I overlooking something?
Please disregard the idiocy above. Turns out the super thin snap-on case I use on my Maxx HD was preventing the micro HDMI plug from being fully inserted. When I popped the case off and tried again I got full audio and video. I still can't find any control settings (like for overscan) but at least it works.

HDMI out blocked
While we are on this topic (HDMI) are there any settings options for the HDMI on the Razr HD?

I have no case around my phone and the HDMi Cable is plugged in tight, still no picture, but phone turns into landscape mode...
Does any of you know any workaround or any way to make things happen?
I am on Validus 5.2 Rom (Android 4.4).
In Display Settings there is the option:
Cast Screen, but i think that one is for Chrome Cast, isn't it?
Is it probably better to use a chromecast instead of HDMI? i want to have my mobile screen on my TV...
I hope you can help me,
Thanks in advance,

Using a galaxy s6 like desktop pc.

Hello everyone. Recently I was tasked at work to redesign and office space and attempting to use a program to lay out and then provide a 3d rendering of the proposed space. turned out to be a nightmare for me. I work in a facility that is not updated their computer systems since 2005 I ended up making everything work but I had to do it on my phone. My question without HML support is there any way to turn a smartphone reasonably to function like a desktop PC?
So far all I have found is Microsoft's miracast. Most likely have to buy a bluetooth keyboard mouse.
But I want to know if anybody else has tried this what worked what didn't. My goal would be to plug my phone into my monitor at work so I can actually do something. so HDMI is a must.
Hardware found:

what do you need to do at work and why didnt you onsider a hromeast?
Chromecast requires a wifi router. Miracast the phone communicates to the dongle directly. This removes some variables you can not plan for ie. Crappie or no wifi. I only need an HDMI display, a miracast device and my phone and I can work, display, present. Ideally with the two items that fit in my pocket. Especially without having to try and sign on to a WiFi network that may or may not work. Making it so I could walk into any room plug it into the TV connect with my phone and begin.
To be honest with you I recently got into it with my boss. I told him that I can do more on my phone than on the s*** computers they give us. And I kind of want to prove it.

This would be really cool. Only phone I have known of that has these features is the old Motorola atrix. Maybe look into one of those new devices like IBM's pc stick. It's basically a donggle that plugs in via hdmi and as a full OS installed on it.
Today I tested the screenbeam 2 http://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-ScreenBeam-Wireless-Receiver-SBWD60A01/dp/B00O14JG2Y
Watched transcendence and great picture only got jumpy 2/3 times. Very minor lag. Some ppl reported the dongle gets hot this is true. Uses a lot of battery wifi direct phone was placed on a wireless charger and still dropped 20% during the hour plus movie. Tomorrow I'm testing a method of making the display more "desktop like" for my proposed use at work. Need to connect bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Along with some phone system tweeks. I could not get connected to my chromecast without the router.
Still looking for input from anyone who has tried this.
