[Q] HDMI Lag - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went out and bought a micro HDMI to HDMI cable at frys the other day. It shows the picture and all but the xoom lags like none other when I put it in. Even a short swipe of the screen makes it pop up the add new widgets, wallpapers and so on. I was wondering what could be the problem with it? Its a non-rooted wifi only xoom.

i have similar problem with my HDMI cable. When ever I connect the xoom reboot it self work for few second then stop. After unplug and replug againsame cycle reboot.
Though this was working fine before! !!!!!

Mine works great with my LG set. The only thing when I plug it in the black bar at the bottom doubles in size on the xoom and doesn't reset after I unplug it. I have to reboot anyone have a fix?

I picked up a the cord and it worked great.
The only issue I found was neither tv I tried it on could adjust overscan. On one tv the size adjustments were greyed out? and the other didn't respond to changes to picture size.

I will test this when I get my cable this week, should have by Tuesday.

Does your TV have some sort of smoothing like running at 120Hz or 240 in some cases? If there's a "game" mode then usually that runs at 60Hz without a delay because it doesn't have to interpolate in-between frames.

Confirmed this works just change your AV setting on your tv and find the one that works best.

HDMI Gaming

After getting my 15 foot HDMI, 5 foot HDMI cables and my Body Glove case today I've been testing everything I can throw at this phone. In the end I only noticed the cable loses connection when you really move the phone around.
Played the following for about 5-30 minutes each:
Robot Unicorn Attack
Pocket Legands
Angry Birds, Rio and Seasons
Armored Strike
9 Innings Baseball
Bejeweled 2
Cordy
Dillo Hills
Pinball Deluxe
Rocket Bunnies
Speed Forge 3
What the Doodle!?
Stupid Zombies
Tap Defense
N64oid - Nintendo 64 emulation (Works like a charm!)
Even if I feel like the G2x is not lasting as long as my HD2 with an extended battery***...this phone is godlike and just makes me want to buy a bluetooth controller to play Zelda on the big screen again!
*** Disclaimer:
Of course coming from a phone with extended battery this phone is lasting about 12 hours with HIGH use of texting, gaming at work, music, more music, downloading, e-mails, package tracking and a picture here and there.
What extended battery are you using? Where'd you find it?

It was on my HTC HD2 and I found it after searching google shopping.
But for the G2x I don't think there is a extended battery for it yet. But for those who need some extra life should get an extra battery.
Comes with a desktop charger for the extra battery so when your ready to leave the house and going to be out for 12+ hours should help.

I also just got my HDMI cable yesterday, and I gotta agree that gaming on here rocks. Just so you know, Wii remotes don't work on any variant of the T-Mobile stock ROM, you'll have to use a CM nightly.

I also just got my hdmi cable yesterday, from amazon. I was amazed at how incredibly smooth everything is through hdmi mirroring. The tegra 2 is really showing its stuff. Quick question, is the hdmi mirroring supported on cyanogen yet? I tried the first nightly, but ended up switching back quickly due to other issues, and didn't have my hdmi cable when I was playing with it.

Thanks; here's hoping that'll get fixed before the first stable release.
For what it's worth...
I thought HDMI mirroring was more buggy on stock. My phone would sometimes turn off as soon as I plugged in the cable and if I rotated my phone while the cable was in it DEFINITELY did not like that and would also shut down my phone (and drain battery to 0).
I've had absolutely no issues with HDMI mirroring on CM7 (including rotation) however playback in landscape is not so great.
Overall, I'd say performance was better with stock but it was way buggier. CM HDMI is more stable but worse performance.
Just my 2 cents...

Hmmm, thats odd; I didn't run into any of those issues during my tests. My first thought would have been it was a hardware problem, either the cable or the hdmi port on the phone...but that wouldn't really explain why your cm7 build isn't exhibiting the same problems. Maybe its similar to some of the other issues that seem to plague some G2X owners: the presence of reboots and what not seems to vary from device to device. I love my G2X and haven't had any problems, but there seems to be some quality control issues for the batch as a whole.
Out of curiosity, where did you get your hdmi cable from?
EDIT: Also, what player were you using in both stock and CM7 to test your video playback?

I tried playing a movie on youtube and in CM7 video player using the latest nightly and it would interrupt to a black screen for a second, every 30 seconds on my HDTV (but continue playing on my phone). Flash back to stock, and this didnt happen at all.
Does anybody use a bluetooth controller that works good? If so can you guys post a link? As soon as my hdmi cable arrives I'm going to install one of those emulators and test it out!

From what I understand, it's an issue with LG's Bluetooth drivers, so most likely not.

With which rom?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I don't think a stock LG rom will support the bluetooth profiles unless they add them in with the GB update.
At this time, CM based roms are the only ones that will work with bluetooth gamepads.
There was already a thread on gamepads that listed pictures and pricing.
I'ved played several emulators and games via HDMI and no problems. Phone screen has to be on though... hopefully they fix that.

[Q] HDMI cutting out

Is anyone having a problem with the hdmi signal cutting out on their g2x? i plug it in and i was watching a netflix movie, it would go black for about 2 seconds and then show again. Thought it might be a netflix problem till i tried youtube and also playing a movie off of my sdcard. The picture looks great and it seems to be working perfect accept for the screen going black. Its pluged into a50 inch plasma 1080p tv and im using eaglebloods gingerbread rom which doesnt have hmdi options in the settings is this an issue with that rom?
same.
I have the problem, its so annoying, only happens when mirroring hd video. Maybe its the cheap ebay cable im using? or the rom?
if you guys are using CM7 its a common issue since CM doesnt support HDMI output. thats why there isnt a setting of it, of course it still works with games and everything but the movie playing is what it has a problem with. hope this helps

MHL adapter and signal loss

I am using clean ROM 4.0 DE and when I try to use my MHL adapter I lose signal on my phone everytime. Not only do I lose signal but when I try to just display a movie that I have on my phone, it freezes and wont play. I checked to see if the movie paused but it didn't. I can do everything else (as long as a data connection isn't required). I have not tried via wifi but that really doesn't matter much cause I don't have wifi where I am lookign to use MHL. Is this a ROM issue or a known issue with the HOX and MHL. I had the same issue on r113 or the Nocturnal ROM as well.
Is it an OEM HTC MHL adaptor? Or a third party brand?

Third party from amazon
Sent from my Nocturnal HOX
I get a really grainy, probably only 850x480 picture on mine. Same with my Evo 3D. Both are running ICS. The 3D was full 720/1080p out before updating.
Sorry to hear that. I just got this yesterday. And it really works! Sadly landscape mode doesn't work properly on cyanogenmod 9 so I went back to ARHD and have the full screen landscape setup. Good thing about this adapter is that It already has an HDMI cable builtin you can even pair it with this dock(btw I bought 2)..1 for work and 1 when at home.

I'm using a 3rd party MHL adapter from MONOprice, about $10. I had this issue and realized it was due to the One X's screen timeout. I set power settings to display on always when charged, and it works fine. Try it.

G2X as Android TV box

My G2X is currently sitting in a drawer, and I was wondering how well it would function as a dedicated set top box for my HDTV. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and has any suggestions on a good rom to use, as wells as accessories.
I was thinking it would be cool to use it as a DLNA client and possibly set up a NAS server. I would also want a keyboard and mouse for web surfing as well as a game controller for playing games. Netflix is also a no brainer. I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work just as well as those cheap android TV boxes coming out of china.
Any Advice?
This may just be my experience but I have had a lot of trouble getting a stable video from my HDMI on it. It may be the rom (EB, 4.0.4 AOSP) but I'm not so sure this phone was ever designed for that. It's possible, maybe, but I wouldn't hold your breath..
I am able to get stable HDMI output. I played some games with my G2X/P999 attached to an LCD screen via HDMI. I'm using the stock V21Y ROM.
Don't see why it wouldn't work. And with CM7.2 you can use a bluetooth mouse, too.

Any other suggestions on ROMs? Are there any ICS ROMs that have solid 1080p output? I used the HDMI out with cyanogenmod but if I remember correctly it didnt work that smoothly.
With the announcement of full featured XBMC for android I think this could work out pretty well!

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
More than certain this can be done. I've used my g2x to play Game Boy / Game Boy advance games on my 55 inch TV before with a wii remote. Played for a good 4 hours. Although it did overheat and reboot a few times... Though I'm willing to bet that was due to the fact my phone was OC at 1.4GHz and I don't think that emulator had a frame rate limit. Also I've used it to stream from my NAS using es file explorer and mx player to get the best out of the phone. For streaming I watched 4 episodes of Pokemon approx 170mb each episode in one go.
What I did notice though is that if you are going to be using it for this it will drain the battery faster than it can charge. I've never fully drained the battery while it was plugged in during my use so you are going to have to experiment a little on your own to find out how long it lasts.
I finally went out and bought a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and I can confirm that with an app called "Blueinput" (free but adds text ass your typing unless you register it for 9.99Eur) it does work. You can hook your phone to a charger, mini hdmi to your tv, connect bt mouse and keyboard via blueinput and sit back and use the phone via bt mouse and keyboard. I went full nerd. I bought a logitech keyboard that was made for ICS and has the google buttons on the keyboard, but I'm running cm7 and they dont register in the bt test section of blue input. The mouse is a little touchy, and there is no pointer, so no ability to click the background and add widgets, but any item on the screen can be selected with the mouse and the right click is back. I don't feel like loading ICS again to test on that, but next time I do I will let you all know how it works.
I also bought the wii classic that connects with a wire to the regular wii remote so I can map even more buttons and can now play snes and probably ps1 and better (haven't tried yet). Still think the G2X out does every other phone I have played with/rooted for people.
I have just purchased a g2x specifcally to try and use as a media player i will remove the mainboard from its case and put it into a 2.5" portabld hdd case for better ventilation, put a heatsink on the cpu and wire up some usb ports for extra connectivity, should it all work ok it should be a good little media box neatly packaged into a set top box type casing.
I do have a couple concerns
I have noticed people videos of mirroring from the g2x it only goes into fullscreen when playting a game or video but the desktop displays small, can that be changed and since I have no use for the lcd I want to have the hdmi permanent only output not mirroring.
will shows some pics of it all working when done, if it fails I will pretend I simply lost interest in the project and never be heard from again.
Just a suggestion, why don't you guys try xbmc android? Only problem is how to control it.

HDMI out

So I connected the tablet to my tv today via the hdmi out and had some odd color issues. Reds and yellows were way off. Has anyone else tried connecting this way and had any problems? Thanks
No problems here with a Samsung tv connected to it.

You didn't tweak any settings on the tv or tablet? I connected to an lg tv and have never had any issues with anything else that I've ever connected to it.

What you mean with "way off"? They aren't displayed as they should be or they have another hue? Show a picture if possible.
Try going to settings - HDM and change to "Native" instead sRBG in Colour correction preset.
I will redo the test and look especially for red and yellow colors and come back to you.

So I tried on another tv (hitatchi, first one was an lg). Screen mirroring worked better than console mode. The resolution was off in console mode. Colors weren't bad, but switching from sRGB to native didn't make much of a difference.
