Updating TWRP through manager app - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to update TWRP through the TWRP manager app on the OPO?
It displayed a warning about if the partition recovery is wrong it'll bring the phone. See attached pic.
How can I 'verify the recovery partition is correct' while in CyanogenMod?
Sorry if this is an incredibly stupid question.
Cheers

It is probably better to flash it with fastboot. Or look for a zip in the official thread.
That app is less than reliable in all of the TWRP threads I follow.

Don't use the app, it's completely rubbish, I've seen multiple reports of it not working. Fastboot is the right way.

I was going through the same steps and stopped where u stopped also. Good to know that app is useless. I was probably one step away from bricking my phone lol.

If you MUST... use Flashify.. it works well and I've updated TWRP using it on the OPO. Works fine.

serial number not showing in fastboot

doing this guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guides-bacon-timmaaas-how-to-guides-t2839471
and on step 1 when i type "fastboot devices" it dosen't write anything back.
i have those drivers from the guide http://www.koushikdutta.com/post/universal-adb-driver
and have followed the small guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 beforehand.
and the phone is obviously in fastboot mode ( says so on the screen), yet it dosen't list my phones serial number when typing the command.
edit: another question, is flashing gapps the same as flashing a rom?
thanks in advance to all helpers.
What OS are you running on your PC? Are you using the original OPO cable? Are you using a usb 2.0 or 3.0 port? Do you have any other phone drivers or software installed on your PC?

You need root access to backup your EFS partition, there's no way around that unfortunately.
Flashing gapps isn't exactly the same as flashing a ROM. Flashing a ROM flashes an entire operating system, whereas a gapps package contains only Google apps and services. A gapps package is completely necessary if you want to use the Play Store, or have a Google account attached to your phone.
Transmitted via Bacon
After installing the drivers you have to restart your computer and replug the phone in. Your phone should be in Android os before you go to fastboot. Android debugging should also be disabled.
You could have just posted in the thread previously instead of creating a new thread.

It's up to you, if you click install you will have root on the stock ROM, if you don't install then your stock ROM will remain unrooted. As for the question about the ROMs, only you can answer that. Everyone has different tastes and needs from their ROM so opinions vary wildly. Check out the features and flash one, if you like it then keep it, if you don't like it then flash another one.

[Q] Help: Can't boot to TWRP

Hi guys,
I need your helps. I was currently on TWRP 2.8.0.1, and I was able to access to recovery just fine with bbear's 5.0 rom. then I wanted to update to 2.8.1.0 using the TWRP manager (they said it was the safest) and didn't install busybox as they wanted me to. I proceed with the update and I believed the i got a prompt said that it failed. So I boot to recovery for a good 5 minutes but just stuck on logo. I can still reboot and go back to my rom. How do I fix this?
what if I boot into bootloader and re-push TWRP. should i pushed it with 2.8.0.1 or 2.8.1.0?
Thanks
Just flash TWRP 2.8.1.0 the normal way (fastboot), their app is notorious for screwing up. If you need instructions, check out my guide thread, the link is in my signature.

thanks I will do that when I get home tonight. Believed it or not, i did used your guide to unlock boot loader, flash twrp, and rooted my phone . And TWRP said using their app is safer
Well, TWRP just want you to use their app. In my experience though, using apps like TWRP Manager, ROM Manager, etc to undertake such critical tasks is just asking for trouble. You should be fine once you've flashed it with fastboot.

error updating ota

i tried to update my opo 64gb from 33r to 38r by ota when it asks me to
but when it reboots in recovery(twrp in my case, i'm rooted and i have twrp recovery nothing else, neither xposed or things like that) it gives me error about updater binary if i'm not wrong
then i reboot to system and obviously it remain 33r
how can i solve this problem?
i read of people that get the same error and cant even flash other zips...
Updating your recovery to the latest TWRP (2.8.1.0) should solve your problem.
It's a known issue.
What's the exact error you get please?

Yeah we need the exact error to see what's going on. Other than that, ota zip flashing with twrp will work but u might have to manually select the zip...
Download the ota zip yourself into your phone is available in a thread here somewhere search for it, reboot into recovery, select "install zip", browse to the correct ota zip, swipe to flash, clear dalvik then clear cache.
//edit
Just saw you're on 33r. Download ota zip for 38r and 44s. Make sure you flash them in the correct order don't mix them up!

solved flashing via fastboot factory images with bacon root toolkit(i'm lazy :silly of 33r to see if it would update it and it did

anyway i'm considering flashing cm11 stable builds...is there the option for slowmotion and othe things like gesture on off screen?

CM11 doesn't come with the CameraNext camera so you need to install the apk manually, but once you do that you will have full functionality. It has all gestures.
A word of advice: don't be lazy, stay away from toolkits. Firstly, they're unreliable and I've seen them cause many issues for people. Secondly, the experience you gain from using fastboot and adb manually is priceless.

I think cm11s 44s is ahead of cm snapshots in terms if fixes and stuff so I would stick with that then go to a custom kernel for further updates past 44s kernel
And I totally agree with timmaaa I learned about flashing etc on this phone from his threads and posts lol trust me a one click app won't help when things hit the fan... But do as you want, I wanted to learn the proper way

so gesture of music(2 fingers to play/pause, right/left arrow to change song), circle for camera and doubletap2wake are present also in cm11 non-S stable?
are they better then cm11s in terms of stability and smoothness?
could you also suggest me a good kernel?

Yes, all of the gestures are present. It's essentially the exact same ROM but without the fancy lockscreen and camera. The main difference being that it receives merged fixes and commits sooner than CM11S. The best kernel? Stock.

[Q] HELP major issues after OxygenOS

(had rooted phone running cm12 nightly earlier) So i downloaded the oxygenos file yesterday, forgot to extract and directly went to TWRP, clicked wipe (ticked everything EXCEPT internal memory) then went to the .zip file of oxygenos and attempted to flash, Obviously that failed and as a result i had no OS. Did a fastboot thing and flashed cm12 back on (already had file on phone) then extracted oxygenos, went to TWRP and wiped all except internal then flashed and successfully rebooted.
Then, I even had to flash SuperSU for root again, a new version since the one on my phone was old i guess
Here's the thing now. I have all my apps up and running, but i cant find ANY of my photos, videos or music. At no point did i forget to untick internal memory.
WHAT CAN I DO??
(kinda Newb to this whole flashing and rooting thing, apologies)

It isn't the OS at fault, many people have flashed it without a single issue, sorry, but it's user error. Start from scratch by flashing the stock images, I have instructions in section 8 of my guide here:

Yes, that's all you need to do (as long as your bootloader is actually unlocked). It will reinstall CM11S and format your userdata so you can access it again.

[Q] Flashing a ROM from the PC

I have a strange problem with my One running CM12. The bottom 1/4 of the screen is not detecting touch. so I can't use the navigation buttons or a little above it. Nothing has happened physically to the phone so I was thinking (hoping) it was a software issue. I figured it's the perfect time to put Oxygen on it but when I boot into TWRP I still can't access the bottom of the screen to swipe the flash (hoping that it's software diminishes).
As a last ditch effort I wanted to flash it from the PC but I can't find any tutorials that take me step by step. I copied the ROM over to the device (no SD card) and can boot into Fastboot mode but I'm not sure how to flash the image.

The only way to flash Oxygen from PC would be to adb sideload it, but that requires touch control in the section of the screen that isn't working. Your best bet is to actually flash the stock images with fastboot, not only does that not require any touch control on the phone, but it'll being the phone back to a factory state which is the best method to see if it's software/firmware or hardware. I have instructions in section 8 of my guide here:

Just unzip cm-11.0-XNPH38R-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip into the folder where you have adb.exe and fastboot.exe. It should contain way more files than just boot.img though. And is it that particular build that you're wanting? That one has been replaced by the 44S and 05Q builds now.
