[Q] Help: Can't boot to TWRP - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I need your helps. I was currently on TWRP 2.8.0.1, and I was able to access to recovery just fine with bbear's 5.0 rom. then I wanted to update to 2.8.1.0 using the TWRP manager (they said it was the safest) and didn't install busybox as they wanted me to. I proceed with the update and I believed the i got a prompt said that it failed. So I boot to recovery for a good 5 minutes but just stuck on logo. I can still reboot and go back to my rom. How do I fix this?
what if I boot into bootloader and re-push TWRP. should i pushed it with 2.8.0.1 or 2.8.1.0?
Thanks

Just flash TWRP 2.8.1.0 the normal way (fastboot), their app is notorious for screwing up. If you need instructions, check out my guide thread, the link is in my signature.

thanks I will do that when I get home tonight. Believed it or not, i did used your guide to unlock boot loader, flash twrp, and rooted my phone . And TWRP said using their app is safer

Well, TWRP just want you to use their app. In my experience though, using apps like TWRP Manager, ROM Manager, etc to undertake such critical tasks is just asking for trouble. You should be fine once you've flashed it with fastboot.

I'm on 5.0 rom and I don't think I have this option "Update recovery with system updates" to uncheck. I just have to enable USB debugging and flash away correct?

Cannot update to 30O

I have been holding off from updating to 30O since it came out because of battery issues, however now that 33R is rolling out im trying to install 30O in preparation but am unable to do so. Whenever I hit the "Download Update" button through settings nothing happens, I have tried restarts and cache wipes with no luck. Everything on the phone is still stock.
Any suggestions?
Do you have the update via recovery button checked in dev settings? Also you don't need to download 30O, just go straight to 33R.

I don't think that's possible; the OTAs are incremental.

This is also not true. The "Update CM recovery" option in developer options just keeps updates from overwriting your custom recovery back to the stock recovery. You can update via OTA with a custom recovery; I did it with TWRP.

Well yea. Sorry if my wording was a bit convoluted; but I just see it being a waste of time to overwrite the custom recovery. But also from my experience OTA just goes with stock recovery, so thank you for your input.

I'm not sure if you read my post wrong or not, but I said you can manually flash updates while stock. If you did read it correctly and are just complaining that I didn't give a detailed answer with instructions, I wasn't exactly sure of the process, so I left that to someone else. Some helpful information is better than none.

I ended up just flashing manually using files from android police and stock recovery, however the download update button still didnt work even when i was trying to go to 33R. If I get some time ill get around to factory resetting and trying again because as far as i can tell there is no reason for it not to work.
You could always sideload a OTA if you have the zipfile.
Code:
adb reboot recovery
in recovery choose "ADB Sideload"
Code:
adb sideload update.zip

Restoring to stock, "data too large" error

I was restoring to stock and got this error at the update -w step. I am returning to the 38R release and I am stuck at the boot screen with no luck.
Any advice?
How did you install adb/fastboot? That error usually comes due to an outdated version.

I was using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
And I downloaded the firmware link provided for the 64GB version in step number 1.
I used the flash-all.bat command and it never rebooted correctly at the end.

Quite a few people have had to deal with the spontaneous locking of the bootloader, I can't remember the fix off the top of my head though. It's been discussed quite a bit in this q&a section though.

[Q] Need Some Help

Hi,
Need some help.
I just upgraded to CM 11.0-XNPH44S.
Now after doing that my root gone so do I need to unlock the bootloader again and reroot it or reroot alone is possible.
Unlocking the bootloader means wiping out the phone to factory settings and I'll lose many data in doing that.
Plz help me out.
PS : Can anyone provide the link for OPO Toolkit v2.0 coz mediafire.com link provided in actual post doesn't work and every post on web directs to that link only.
ThnX

First off, you don't need a toolkit, so don't bother. You don't need to unlock the bootloader again, it doesn't relock unless you lock it yourself. All you need to do is flash the sorts zip in TWRP and you'll have root again.

and, if you want to use cm's Integrated Superuser, just flash this zip instead of supersu
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9zgutQLF14HUlJReXM0NE9TU1k/edit?usp=docslist_api
make the superuser settings visible via terminal
su
setprop persist.sys.root_access=3
and you're fine! this even survives ota updates, as long as you DON'T opt for automatic re-root via recovery

Sorry to disturb you again.
I visited the link you provided but I had few doubts.
Before updating to CM 11.0-XNPH44S when I boot to recovery it goes to TWRP Recovery menu now it goes to Cyanogen Recovery
menu so do I need toinstall TWRP recovery again the way you told or Cyanogen Recovery will do fine.
Can we install SuperSU using Cyanogen Recovery.
Even if I have to do the way you told will my data & apps will be there or it get formatted.

You need to go into Developer Options and uncheck the 'update CM recovery' option. Because you failed top do this before you've lost TWRP during the update. Just flash TWRP again and you can flash SuperSU again. No you can't use CM recovery for this. You won't lose any data or apps.

My phone suddenly reboot during WhatsApp. After reboot, Welcome screen appear like 1st time boot after flash new rom. I have to select language and everything. Yeah that was what I meant. Unfortunately I think you're going to need to wipe though because just installing the update doesn't fix the problem (corrupt data partition). I think you'll need to fully wipe your phone and start fresh. First you should copy any important photos, music, etc from your phone to your PC. Just connect your phone to your PC while you're in TWRP and you should be able to copy your media from the phone using Windows. Once you've done that, go to my guide thread and follow the instructions in section 8 to flash the stock images.

You could use adb sideload in twrp to install stock. Alternatively, you could use fastboot to do it too. Either way, there are ample resources for you in the general thread to accomplish both.

Don't you have adb/fastboot installed on your PC? You should face if you have an unlocked bootloader. Anyway, that feature isn't really necessary, you should just be able to copy a ROM zip from your PC to your phone and flash it. Or do as I suggested and flash the stock images.

There's no point to locking your bootloader, having the phone closer to factory doesn't actually achieve anything constructive. As you can see now it causes problems like this. So you have TWRP recovery installed still?

It should be wherever you pasted it onto your internal storage. You shouldn't need to copy a folder, only the ROM zip.

If adb is working you can use adb sideload to flash it. Put the file in your adb/fastboot folder on your PC. Go into TWRP and connect your phone to your PC, go to the Advanced menu and select adb sideload, then swipe to start sideload. Open a command prompt from within your adb/fastboot folder (shift + right click, select open command prompt here), issue this command:
Code:
adb sideload OnePlusOne-BootUnlocker.zip
Wait for it to finish, and you should have an unlocked bootloader. You can confirm by putting the phone into fastboot mode and issuing this command:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
