Strange hole on the back

Hey there,
I just received my new Polaris - but one hole is not sealed by a cap. It's not the GPS antenna, but some other kind of antenna, but I don't know whether it's bad to have this hole on the back and whether there is a cap for it...
Does somebody also have this hole on the back and knows what this connector is for? Looks very similar to the GPS antenna... I already thought whether it's an antenna for radio or GSM...

I have no hole or cap what so ever at that location. Are you sure this is a Polaris? Perhaps you got some test-model with an extra adaptor plug for something on it.

a guy there has dismatled the phone so im putting in a question about what is showed in your hole.
by finding out whats under there im thinking of (fm radio) maybe somone has built some extension from there.
example the personbe before you might have used the phone in a car alot and had bad FM reception and wanted to build a FM extension.

Anyways, somewhere behind the battery there is a "POLA100" printed on the phone... As it completely looks like that phone, as it has the "htc" logo on the front and as it has the "POLA100" written inside, it MUST be one..
Anyways, I was also wondering, because the plug for the power cable is some sort of UK one (without the third connector), no euro-plug..
Strange thing it is... I will let you know about the answer from HTC...

Nexus S i9023 Replacement Speaker Not Working

Hi Everyone,
This is my first time posting as I am normally pretty good at googling solutions. But this time I am pretty stumped!
I brought an Nexus S i9023 and the speaker on it was faulty. It worked but it hissed and popped and was extremely quiet. Sounded like a dodgy connection more than anything. If you put pressure in the right place it would work for a few seconds.
Hence I decided to go and buy a replacement. I brought the replacement speaker with a new lead on it too from Aliexpress.
It arrived promptly and well packaged. It was obviously brand new too as the flex had not been bent.
I fitted this today but it doesn't work. nothing not a sound.
I put the old one back in and low and behold its hissing and making noises as per usual.
Can anyone tell me if I am missing anything here? Its definitely the right part, It fitted perfectly too.
Massively stumped and if anyone could suggest anything it would be greatly appreciated.

Cannot think of anything else than to refit the new one and double check the connections...
if you've got a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the terminals and compare to the old one, it should give you
a reading of a few Ohms - measure the readings with the speakers not connected to the board - that way you can deduce
if the "new" speaker is in fact good or not

Thank you very much for the advice, my situation has gone from bad to considerably worse! So, I had the original which was quiet making funny noises and then the new replacement which wasn't doing anything. So I decided that perhaps it was just the speaker and decided to solder the new speaker to the old flex and see if I was in business.... exactly the same issue sound was working but very quiet and fading in and out and hissing etc. Hence I thought right then, got this one sorted its the flex. Back to the iron, I soldered the original speaker which I knew was working to the new flex, but still no sound tried a few times as I was worried that the connection from the new flex to the speaker wasn't quite solid enough.
This is where things got....well....rather gutting! The phone isn't turning on anymore. I get the screen light up for a split second, then go dark again. Tried to do all the usual things such as removing battery, tried to get it into boot mode (holding sound up and power), I get nothing when plugged into pc, nothing when plugged into the charger. I am worried that when soldering the speaker I could have bridged the positive and negative terminals and hence made it short. Would this blow my motherboard up? Is that even possible?
I am now at a complete loss what to do now, and before I do any more damage, I thought I would consult the experts. I should also say that it is completely stock and hasn't been rooted or anything along those lines.
Any help, advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Again thank you gunner for your advice it is greatly appreciated, but my situation is rather worse now and I think I have a rather expensive paperweight on my hands.

I'm sorry things have gone to worse mate I assume you've been doing the soldering with no power to the phone!?
If you're suspecting you may have shorted the speaker, I think its a good idea to check that! I suggest to desolder, clean and resolder.
Put some soldering flux if you have any as those little flex things are sometimes a pain to get them attached.
I'm not familiar with the NS circuitry but I reckon a shorted speaker would not result in blowing the whole board! Before assembling
everything back again, check whether there are any tiny bits of solder that may have stayed on the board or to the components.
Clean around the soldered area carefully.
Also, you might want to check if the phone powers up with no speaker attached at all. You might be having another issue as to why its
not turning on.

MHL HDMI Adapter working on one Note 4, but not the 2nd Note 4

I have 2 Galaxy Note 4 phones. Love em. They are both running the same configuration, Android 6.0.1. I have an MHL adapter that I have used on may devices for quite a while and it works great. However, it only works on one of my Note 4 phones. I am totally baffled. I spent a couple hours reviewing the settings on both phones to see if something was different. I even upgraded it to 6.0.1/Marshmellow and when that didn't work I did a factory reset. I have read every troubleshooting guide and nothing seems to work. I guess what I am looking for is someone who understand what I should be looking for....
Clearly its not the adapter since it does work on the one Note 4.
It seems to me this is likely a hardware problem because of the fact that I did a factory reset, but honestly I can't really say. I don't think the lcd digitizer would affect it, but just in case I pulled it and installed the one from the working phone. No joy.
Anyone know if there are hardware differences between Note 4s made at different times? I don't know what else to try but if anyone has an ideas please offer it as this has me stumped.

May be a silly question but I ask it because I see you made no mention of it but have you checked and compared the charging ports between the two and is there any missing pieces or bent port pins, debris, pocket lint or anything else that would affect the connection to the phone?

I don't think it is a silly question at all. For me, usually the problems I have the toughest time solving are often when I am looking for the complicated solution and forget the simple one starting at me. I just assumed the USB was ok because I can charge the phone and browse files. But obviously it has to be that. Really there is not much else it could be when I break it down. Now that I test it more closely the file transfer is not the best on this phone.
I guess I needed to hear that. Yeah so it seems quite obvious now. I just replaced the lcd digitizer so I may as well go ahead and replace the charging port while I have the phone apart since I can buy one for +/- $10.

[DISC] Changing motherboards between different models

Hey everyone,
recently my SC-02h (Jap Docomo version) hard-bricked and has no way to recover besides JTAG or motherboard replacement.
This made me think of an experiment.
Can you replace any motherboard (which includes all chips and the storage) with another.
I ordered the g935FD dual sim version with the Exynos chip, this compared to my QC single sim version which is currently bricked.
Hopefully within the next few days I'll receive the motherboard and start the replacement process (I will probable film it) to see if it works.
If so, anyone could replace their motherboard by a new one that is unlocked or has a different chipset.
Please discuss here if you're also interested in changing your own mobo with another.

Can't see why it won't work as the motherboard is what determines the model. Just make sure you order up a dual SIM tray too.

Motherboards from different chipsets *may* have different connections on how things wire up. I'm not saying they do, I'm just thinking out loud. I'd only buy a replacement motherboard from the same variant.
And good luck finding a new motherboard. At the price they sell for, you'd be better off buying a whole new phone.

Yea I ordered that one, although I thought the tray looks the same (bottom part), so until my new one arrives I'll use the older one.

I checked the connections and they are the same, the only thing that differs is the sim holder and the chipset.
Also a new phone (unlocked) costs at least 2,5times more (live in Japan).

I'll record it on video as soon as it arrives, also the process of taking it out and replacing it completely. So if it ends up in failure you can all see it.

In what way is it bricked? The S7 is almost impossible to brick.

Hmm I flashed a rom with TWRP, (lineage, but wrong build) after that I rebooted and the phone stopped responding completely.
So black screen, no led when charging, no response at all when pressing buttons.
Even disconnecting battery and reconnecting didn't work.
Also no recognition in windows when connected to USB

Even made a USB JIG

Another thing you might lose is waterproofness. I cracked my screen badly and instead of repairing it at a 3rd party shop, I sold it and got a new one. Coz it won't be waterproof anymore..

i should be fine, just get it glued back together properly.
besides i don't really care about it.

Unless the other components (camera, vibrator motor, various sensors, OLED Panel etc.) don't differ in the way they talk to the mainboard, I don't see why it shouldn't work. As others have said, I'd really love to see how it'll work out for you. So, thanks for sharing =)

Well it didn't work out, I put in the new motherboard but the phone didn't power on at all. There is also no led when trying to charge it. I'll be sending it back to the supplier and buy another version instead.

Was interesting to watch, however you only tried powering on twice and quit?
Connecting a charger had no effect?
Unless the board your received was dead to begin with.

Can you share the link of where you bought the motherboard? It might be that you bought a blank motherboard. In that case you want it to be flashed with the correct IMEI and partition (table?). AFAIK the IMEI has to be that of your previous phone since you can't just "create" a new IMEI. Don't even want to get into the legal repercussions but here's a sneak peak; in some countries it's a criminal offence to alter an IMEI or even have tools to alter IMEI. Don't quote me on this and I'm asking the community to correct me. If the motherboard comes from a previously active device, it should have its own IMEI and none of what I said before matters.
Whatever, none of that necessarily explain why it didn't boot up. Have you tried charging and plugging it to a PC? If it isn't dead, your PC should at least detect A device.

Well I tried a few times after that and after letting it on a charger, still no response.

It should be one with an IMEI how else can it be unlocked.
I tried plugging it in as well, but my PC doesn't recognise it at all.
I've ordered a different one this time, this motherboard was also slightly different from the one I had (2 cables instead of 3) so it might be incompatible.

I am going to try swapping out a good motherboard from a banged up sprint G930P phone with a clean IMEI into a clean, whole, G930X demo model that I picked up cheap on Ebay.
The "X" demo phones work on WIFI only. I understand that the "X" motherboards are missing the cellular radios, which is why I am trying this swap -- it should be far easier and less costly than doing a full screen&LCD replacement, which requires tearing down the entire phone, and costs about $150. Hopefullly, I will just have to remove the back, the QI receiver and I think the camera, and I'll get access to the motherboard.
My hope is that all the rest of the parts are present -- we'll see how it goes.

LG Velvet-Service Disabled

I have a backup Verizon LG Velvet. I have the LG V60 as my main phone. With or without a sim the Velvet states "Service Disabled" and the bars have a small x next to them. I and Verizon have tried all the normal troubleshooting tips available.
Factory reset
Airplane mode on/off
Network reset and so on.
The sim works fine in other phones I tested so it's not the sim giving the issue.
Verizon tried on their end to get the phone to work but still kept getting the same service disabled. I'm down to thinking it's more a hardware issue than it is software. But not sure which internal module I should replace. The logic board or the lower PCB.
I even tried to lookup flashing the stock firmware to see if that helps via LGUP and LG Flash Tool. Neither I could get to work to achieve that goal.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could share an assist as to what is wrong or how to rectify the issue to the get the service to work on this phone. Anyone have any idea? Thanks.

Maybe the C port pcb. I know on Samsung phones one of the failure modes with the C port pcb is lose of internet and phone. It gets a lot of wear and tear. If it applies to this phone, don't know.
An experienced repair tech is probably your best shot...

That's also what I thinking when I mention replacing the lower PCB. I will give that a shot. And then go further if that doesn't help. Thnx

They are generally inexpensive. Of course the elephant in the room is it could be the mobo instead... I hope it's the former.
It's also possible that the firmware was corrupted. A freak random hit by a high energy particle can do exactly that. A reflash of the stock rom be the next thing to try after the port pcb or maybe before depending on what you think.

Yes. The reflash was my first choice but couldn't find the right program to work with this phone and the right KDZ file I was having trouble finding. I kept getting errors with LGUP and Flash Tool.

I change my views about flash memory corruption after watching that vid. The volume of bit drops on the Apollo flight is jaw dropping.

I may have found my issue. I put the logic board under my scope and found some damage to the lower PCB like I thought and you mentioned. There is a "+" and "-" connectors above the charging port where the plate of the speaker connects to. The "+" connector is missing.
I ordered another charging port PCB and when that arrives, I will see if that fixes the issue and let you know.

So as it turns out, it wasn't just the lower pcb. Although it did need replacement as well. But it was the main pcb. So I ordered the main pcb from eBay for 60 dollars and the seller ended up sending me the entire phone in perfect condition and perfect working condition. LOL-go figure.
