Hi,
Important : Requires ROOT
This is a simple App that emulates the click of Power Button.
Handy when u want to reduce wear and tear of the physical button or if the button is not working.
Currently the following method of Trigger are available:
- Using the Swipe Up Assist action which usually opens the Google Now App
- Application icon (In Launcher)
- Shortcut
- Intent Support - Use 'in.pathri.screenoff.SCREEN_OFF' as Intent action to trigger screen off from ANY App, including TASKER
Following are planned to be added:
- Widget (Is it Needed?? )
- Tasker Extension
Advantage over other similar apps in Market:
The usual 'Screen Off' 'Screen Lock' Apps that are available in market, makes the 'Smart Lock' feature introduced in Lollipop not work. Also this makes the timeout period set in the 'Automatically Lock' security settings to not work.
Since my App uses shell commands (and hence the need for Root) to emulate Power Button press, both Smart Lock and 'Automatically Lock' settings work.
Disclaimer:
AFAIK should not cause any problems in any device since nothing dangerous is being used. But still the usual disclaimer : ' I am not responsible for any damage done to your device, hand, home etc... LOL '
Have tested so far in the following Mobiles. Would be glad if others test it out in various mobiles and report here.
Nexus 5
HTC One X
Change Log:
v0.1 - 5th Jan:
- Initial Version with only Google Now Swipe gesture support
v0.2 - 8th Jan:
- Added the following:
Application launcher
Shortcut
Intent Support : 'in.pathri.screenoff.SCREEN_OFF'
v1.0 - 18th Jan:
Modified code to support more Devices. Probably must work in all Android devices irrespective of Android Version
v1.1 - 20th Jan
Shouldn't be showing in recents anymore
v1.2 - 20th March
Added icon for the swipe up gesture
Fixed a bug that was causing adding shortcut to crash in certain launchers(AFAIK GEL based)
v2.0b - 30th March
Adding a new material icon - thanks to @slider112

That feature is not yet available. It is planned though in future updates
If possible can you verify If the swipe up gesture is turning screen off in your phone? Would like to confirm whether my App is working across devices
Thanks

AFAIK, If we use tasker to screen off, it will immediately lock and would not respect the Smart Lock feature. Please correct me If am wrong.
Regarding the gesture bringing up the magazine app, have u configured the swipe up gesture do that by default ? Or After installing this App,the swipe up gesture got assigned to it?

Oh..ok.. Then I Guess the swipe up gesture you are talking might not be the one I am referring to. The gesture I am referring to usually triggers Google Now /Google search
Does the gesture that opens the magazine app, work on custom launcher?? If no, I Guess that gesture is part of Samsung launcher and can't be overridden without launcher replacement

Thanks a lot my friend
Regarding overriding the swipe up gesture in ur Note 3 , I think it might be possible with an Xposed module. I have never written one, so not Sure. I am ready to try to make a Xposed module, If it's ok for u to test it out in ur mobile (have no previous experience in writing Xposed module, so a word of caution )
I have tried that mod already it doesnt replaes the gesure action.

Can you work it so it doesn't show up in recent apps list? Thanks.
Hi, everybody!
I've got a question regarding the privacy of screens on my android device.
I'd like to lock one screen from viewing. For example: On the left screen there is business related stuff which should not be seen by other people. If you scroll to this screen, it would be nice if there will show up a black window with the message: "This screen is locked. Please enter your password." - After entering the password the screen will unlock itself and you can browse through your files, apps and widgets on this screen.
Is there any app?
Thanks for your help!

ok I see, I noticed when leaving an app it locks it immediately, would be good if you could add time before app locks again, then we can set a custom value for example 30 seconds...

yes this feature is on the top of the list.
Great app, (and I'm not criticizing at all) but if the phone is locked via fingerprint anyway, why is this necessary? Purely curious

Now you can lock your mobile apps using your fingerprint.
• No Peaking in recent apps
• Fully optimized
• No battery Drain
Note :
• you must register your fingerprint in your device
[Settings]> [Security]> [Nexus Imprint]
• Turn On Accessibility Service , this app will not work without enabling it.
[Settings]>[Accessibility]> turn on > [App Locker : Service]
• Enable Device Admin to prevent unauthorized uninstall.
[Settings]> [Security]> [Device Administrators]> turn on > [App Locker]
Please let me know your thoughts and review.

Good work on this. A few things.
Somebody already mentioned the timeout after exiting an app.
What about the app icon on the screen where it asks for the fingerprint?

This is so you can choose specific apps to require your fingerprint to open. It's not necessary but is additional security some people can appreciate.
Let's say you let someone borrow your phone to make a call or look at a video. Then they get nosy and want to check out your text messages... Or maybe they want to be funny and open up Snapchat/Instagram and post something funny on your behalf. Having these apps locked will avoid all that.

Any chance you can add fingerprint for the appdraw that would be great.thanks
Guys please check the update , its awesome
You can see the app contents in the recent apps menu and when you open an app, it will show the contents for a split second before the fingerprint scanner shows up. That screen also looks like something out of iOS, it doesn't look material and the arrows to go to the pin could lol better or say PIN so there's some sort of indication you can switch. Otherwise, it does as it says and works well. You should also add a option to disable based on WiFi network or location.

UI will improve with time , about wifi and location , if i add this feature this will use more battery and users complain about it .
might be a noob question, but is there a way to put a different widget/clock on my lock screen or am i stuck with the boring stock one? I'm talking about when my phone is locked, not my desktop.
If you download Samsung's app, Good Lock, in the Galaxy Apps store, you'll have the option to change the lockscreen clock widget. However, with the app, a lot of other things change as well.
I think you're going to have to use a custom lock screen app from the Play Store. There are a bunch on there but most of them don't support the fingerprint scanner, you'll have to use a digit or pattern unlock code.

i would like this too. I didn't even know the stock player showed up in the lock screen since i've never opened it lol
Change lockscreens, I recommend Floatify but check out some of the options on the Play Store and pick the one you like.

Cool. Will try that
You can set spotify to be the default music player in the EMUI settings and that will probably make it show up on the stock lockscreen. It works for Google Music!
3rd party lock screens tend to cause more trouble than they're worth: Dual lock screens, slower unlock times, battery drain, or incompatible with smart lock security bypass... just to name a few.

When I go to the default music player setting I don't see Spotify as an option, just my podcast app, the music app, and Google music app. If someone manages to get Spotify as default player, would love to know!

This is really just fearmongering, I'm using a 3rd party on this very device and I'm not experiencing any of the problems you're discussing. Battery drain is one potential issue but I've not seen any appreciable extra consumption.

Likewise glad that's working for you, but don't make sweeping generalizations.

I qualified my original statement by saying "tend to" and still stand by it. And Nils barely cracks the top 20 of my power consuming apps... I couldn't say the same for any 3rd party launcher I've used.
