I just updated from 4.4 to 4.4.2.
The "OK Google" hotword detection was working fine (in both the GEL and the Google Search app if I accessed it via the app icon) before I updated, but now the ability seems to be lost no matter what I do.
I've double-checked the following -
My system default language is English (United States).
In my Voice Search settings:
a) my language is also English (United States).
b) Hotword detection option is checked.
c) In my Offline speech recognition > Download Languages settings, I've English (United States) pre-installed (no different from in 4.4).
In short, I simply haven't changed any settings that might have caused this problem.
Anyone having this same issue, or know how to fix it?
UPDATE:
I figured out what happened - it was Pushbullet that caused my problem, not 4.4.2.
Apparently their "Notification Mirroring" feature (which is quite awesome) under Accessibility settings somehow gimped Google Search's hotword detection. Here's a link to someone else's thread where this problem had already been discovered last month(!).
I only found out after Pushbullet themselves acknowledged the issue in their app update description on Google Play.
Anyway thanks for all the suggestions and comments.
I'm still on 4.1. Not sure what the deal might be. You'll probably see a 4.3 update now to fix this issue.

i had that after updating to 4.2.2. I had English (US) at first but I tried switching to English Canada and the "Say OK Google" was gone. Went back to English (US) and it's back and working again.

Hmm. Which setting did you change exactly?
The general language option for the whole device in Settings > Language & input, or in Voice under the Google Search settings?
Google Now>settings>Voice>Language

Didn't work for me.
Tried it with English (UK), the mic button was greyed out / just showed an outline. Hit the back button till I was on my homescreen and swiped away Google Search in the Recent Apps list. Switched back to English (US), and it was still the same.
Same here
I got the same,
it doesnt even work if you're on the google now screen
I am having the same issue after the 4.4.2 update....hope they fix this soon i was really getting used to this feature!
That's strange. I updated and it's working fine for me
Thx very usefull..
Working fine for me on CM-11 (4.4.2)
I flashed the full 4.4.2 factory image from google. Still shows "Ok google" on my search bar and worked just fine.
It goes away after like 10-15 tries... but that time google knows that you have learned the process.
or are you saying when you say "okay google" it doesn't detect at all ?
Uninstall Updates to Google Search and then reinstall them.
Found the culprit. Problem now solved.
Guys, I know what happened - it was Pushbullet that caused my problem.

I'll update the OP.
I had the same issue going from 4.4 to 4.4.2. The fix for me was the main language setting. All my inputs were set under English (U.S.), i.e., keyboard, voice but my main language setting was English (U.K.). Don't how how it happened but I switched it back and I was good

You were spot on with that buddy! The same thing happened after I allowed notification mirroring with AirDroid. Disabled that in the accessibility settings and Google hot words works again. Thanks a lot

Hi there,
I am from China and before getting my nexus 5 I owned a galaxy nexus, in which Google now works well just when phone is switched into En-US.
Now for nexus 5 this does not work.
someone uses a AT&T SIM card to enable google now.
some turns the phone into airplane model, turns off location and connects to VPN network to enable it.
Some says "Ok Google" then follow the instructions to enable it.
It seems that all these does not work for me, is there a easy way to enable Google now.
Regards

What worked for you? I had to uninstall Google search with titanium backup, install Google search 2.6, enable google now, then update to the latest version of search to have google now enabled in China. This is kind of annoying though as you can't flash otas if you do this because it modifies some system files. If you do my method you'll have to reflash the system image to update manually. So I'm wondering if you could share your method here.
Thanks!
sorry, I forgot posting, I just did the same as you did.

4-If you dont have Google Experience Launcher, then install it
5-Clear data of Google Search app and Play Store
6-Long press on the screen until the settings toggle of the laucher appears
7-Select settings
8-By now you should be able to activate Google Now.Done

You can choose between English US / English UK in your phone for the watch language.

Google App broke it on the last update. You can check by uninstalling the Google App on the watch. It will uninstall the updates. Test to see if "OK Google" works.
I have same issue: ok google hotword is not working...tried changing language (i'm italian )resetting watch and also phone...downgrading google app, setting all authorization on...nothing worked...can someone help?
Smells like a temporary fix for the slowdown caused by ok Google, deactivate it ??
Had the same problem. Deleting cache and data of Google app on the watch worked for me. OK google finally works, but I cannot send WhatsApp messages via ok Google. After a reset it's possible but only for a few hours. Strange.
I had an update for Google few minutes ago. Try to install it and check it out later.
When I say ok google , it asks me for fingerprint or pattern.
How can I bypass the passcode and directly activate the assistance?
anyone?
I usually manage to fix it by:
- open settings
- search for "Trusted Agents"
- turn google off
- restart phone
- turn bag google agents on
But in general i need to repeat those steps after every google app update I think
Just came back from work,
i have tried to do the same way with my P20, it is not working too.
However, when i do the same for my Samsung S8+, it works!
which means voice activation for S8+ is working but not P20
Just been out of town to Japan.
And curious enough to try the ok google again
Very weird, it works perfectly in Japan with my P20
So is it limited by district or something?
I can't activate voice match at all. I've tried multiple different languages (phone and Google app) but the setting is always greyed and unclickable. Tried different fixes but no success.
Unfortunately Smart Lock has been broken in all the Android devices for a while now, and Google just doesn't seem to care. It's not an issue with Huawei phones.
Please star the issue and write a comment here, hoping one day they'll address it... https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/65972290
So.. I have this problem where (wait for it...) "Hey Google" doesn't respond, BUT (before you stop reading) it only stops responding after I've been on a voice call. Weird, eh?
Here are some fun facts:
1. To get it to respond again, all I have to do is manually open and close Google Assistant by tapping on the screen, then "Hey Google" will generally behave itself and respond until I get another voice call. Sounds easy (I even have a Tasker routine to automate the process), but it's still a chore and it's always a bit hit and miss.
2. I've tried every generic solution I can find on the internet, including retraining the voice model, deleting the cache and data, factory reset etc etc...
3. This issue is 100% specific to the OnePlus 8T running Android 13 (F.13, F.15 & F.62). I used MSM tool to go back to Android 11 and "Hey Google" worked like a charm. I took the OTA updates to Android 12, still working fine. As soon as I took the OTA update to Android 13 (guess what?) yep, the problem came back! No other apps were installed, only the apps built in to the stock ROM.
4. I've tried a number of custom ROMs. All Android 13 ROMs I've tried have this same problem. (Android 12 based ROMs not affected.) I've also tried EU, Global and Indian Firmware.
I sent feedback to OnePlus already, so hopefully we'll get a fix. In the meantime, please, if anyone has a workaround please let me know.
If you don't have a solution but want to complain about the problem here, I'll give you a listening ear.

Maybe the process of Google Assistant is killed in background by stock memory cleaner or some app?
Try whitelisting it (disable memory optimization and so on).

Thanks for the suggestion. The Google app is already set to 'Unrestricted' - are there any other processes/apps that should also be set to 'Unrestricted'?
I'm wondering if the Qualcomm Voice Assist Aqstic Audio Codec is not being implemented properly in Android 13.
So, I finally received a reply from OnePlus Support. They have asked me to send a screen recording of me saying "Hey Google" and the phone not responding. Sounds fair. I'll have to go back to stock OOS13 so they can see that the issue is not just with custom ROMs.
Oh well, guess I'll get round to that when I have a spare day...
(At least we can do a nandroid backup with TWRP these days. )
Please, if anyone is running an Android 13 ROM (stock or custom) on their 8T, please can you check if "Hey Google" is working properly on your device after making or receiving a call?
Please post on this thread whether it worked or not, and what ROM you are using. Thank you.
Here's a little update in case anyone's interested...
I sent OnePlus Support a screen recording of the malfunction. Today I received this reply:
I contact you due to the malfuntion of Google Assistant.
There is a need to solve this issue in the next update of Android. The version Android 13.1 will be pushed in June and please inform us if the issue still persists.
Best regards,
Klaudia
