USB audio - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I heard with lollipop we would have USB audio. When I connect my nexus 5 to my car through a USB cable and play some music it doesn't play from the car speakers. Whereas an iPhone was able to play music. Any help on how to make it work would be appreciated.

Probably your car audio needs a software upgrade to work with Android devices/L's USB DAC support.

Your car is looking for a file system, android USB audio is providing stream not a file system so this probably wont work unless the deck can emulate a small sound card or something to accept the input.

[Q] Audio over USB

Hi All,
I just got the phone and love it but would like to be able to play my music from my SD card over my stereo without having to mount it as a usb drive, basically be able to use the usb plug to charge and carry audio over and being able to control it from the phone not the stereo itself.
When I had my iPhone I was able to put it in "iPod by hand mode" which would let me switch songs via the phone and not the stereo controls and I could also play Pandora over it as well and I would love to have this functionality back.
Thanks!

[Q] Redirect audio from headphone jack to USB?

Is there a method for redirecting audio from a streaming music player (Spotify, IheartRadio, etc.) to play through the USB port instead of the headphone jack on the HTC One S? I primarily play music through my car stereo and would prefer to use the USB connection instead of the AUX port since I would be able to charge my phone while listening using only 1 cable. This method works fine if I want to mount the SD card and listen to the music stored on my phone but I don't believe it works for streaming audio.
There was an app called SoundRedirector that was built for the Samsung Galaxy S that did this when it was docked in the OEM car mount.
Thanks

GROM USB Audio out works with my Verizon Note 4. Kinda.

So I just purchased a GROM Audio Honda Acura 03+ USB Android iPod Bluetooth AUX adapter( SKU: HON1U3 )
http://www.gromaudio.com/store/usb_...uetooth_adapter_direct_digital_interface.html
With both the Bluetooth and USB AUX adapter it came to a pricey $229.96. What I got for that price is:
Bluetooth media and headphone profiles
USB out via AALinQ Car Music Player
OK Google Hotword still works
Con's:
You have to load your media into the AALinQ application to get it to play via USB, that means no Google Play music over USB, and all system sounds aren't automatically sent to the USB audio like with the Note 3 and previous Galaxy devices.
You don't get track titles etc via Bluetooth at least with my Note 4 on my '08 Acura MDX and the GROM connected to my XM 2 Sat input on the stock head unit.
I'm getting a weird slight crackle when audio stops and starts playing via Bluetooth, I think this is because the Grom adapter is connecting and disconnecting USB audio to the head unit, I got the same crackle when connecting my MHL USB audio connector when the car head unit was on.
Pro's:
The nice thing is that unlike a dedicated MHL USB connector which is the other way to get USB audio out on the Note 4 you aren't blocking your microphone while connected
You are charging. which I hadn't got working with USB to MHL.
Just thought this might be useful to those of us who don't have A2DP built into our car stereo's. GROM is compatible with hundreds and hundreds of vehicles, just use the Browse by auto make selector at http://www.gromaudio.com/index.html
I don't work for GROM, I paid for my unit myself, wanted to share what worked for me in case it helps one of you.
Oh and according to their FAQ the charge you're getting is 1A 5V http://www.gromaudio.com/support/usb-faq.html

[Q] Google Music USB Audio Streaming

Hello, new contributor to the forums.
I cannot find a straight answer regarding Lollipop's USB Audio, Google Music (or any streaming service, not stored files), and car stereos. I know that prior to 5.x, connecting via USB to a DAC/usb audio device support was device-specific. Some devices and car stereos will play music through a USB-connected Android device using MTP.
My main question is... Can an Android device stream all device audio via USB (ultimate purpose of playing music via a streaming service, Google Music) to any car stereos?
I have a couple more specific questions that I'd love answers to if you don't know the direct answer to the question above:
1) The decision to stream music via USB vs. 3.5mm: is that decision made on a device/OS/app level?
2a) I'm familiar with the handshake and protocol that devices go through with a BT connection, but I'm curious if there is any similar agreement that occurs if the Android device agrees to stream digital audio data to a device that will be receiving it.
2b) I'm asking 2a because I know car stereos are outfitted with an internal DAC, but testing a phone with a couple car stereos in a store seemed to automatically trigger MTP or not recognize the device. So does a DAC passively accept the digital data coming into it and process it, or is there some agreement that has to take place when digital data is getting fed into it? Does a car stereo intercept the connection and not send the data off to the internal DAC?
3) This is lower priority... But I'm curious if anyone has connected their Android device to an external DAC and then connected that DAC to their car stereo? Did this give you better sound quality than a BT connection? These are the two reasonable fallbacks if I can't get a straight answer regarding USB audio out with a streaming service on Android.
Hope to get some responses and try to be gentle!

Help USB Audio Headphones via OTG

Hey Guys,
I recently got a new pair of headphones for Christmas. The Sony Wireless Headset 2.0 and it works amazingly with my PS4.
I was wondering if anybody knew how I could pair these headphones up with my Ascend Mate 7. The headphones connect to the ps4 wirelessly via a USB dongle. I have an OTG cable and plugging the dongle into my phone does power on the dongle as the lights come on. However no audio is passed to the headset.
Using the trial version of the following app: USB Audio Player PRO
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudioplayerpro
Allowed me to listen to music over my headphones but only to audio from this music player. So I know that it is possible to receive sound over the earphones via OTG, but I want to be able to use my headphones for gaming too. So I need to find a way to channel all sound out to the headphones.
Thanks in advance
