[Q] Lollipop 5.0 camera not working? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating my Nexus to 5.0, the camera worked fine for a couple of weeks. However, starting from a few days ago, when I open my camera app, it won't function at all; instead, all I get is the screen shown in the screenshot.
I'm afraid that's all I can really explain about this problem, as I can't think of any other relevant details.
Thanks in advance.

Of course, I tried it twice.
Guess what though? After reading your post, I decided to try it again just for the sake of it, and it works now...Thanks for the solution haha?

Sometimes I get this annoying message when I try to access the camera, it says " Cannot connect to the camera " so what I usually do is reboot my device and then everything works again aha.
Glad it sorted itself out.

Same problem. Rebooted 4 times. Cleared cache. Still no camera

I have the same issue, tried the following
Reboot
Clear camera data
Reboot
Clear device cache
Reboot in safe mode
Reboot
None of that worked.
Tempted to try a new ROM and go from stock 5.0.0... See if that helps

I'm on stock rooted 5.0 and I have gotten this issue multiple times. Multiple reboots fix it temporarily but I can't figure out what actually triggers the issue.
I rarely use the flashlight pulldown, and haven't at all during the last few reboot cycles that this has still happened.

CWM Recovery feature "Fix Permissions"

Not sure if many of you know this but there is a feature in CWMR called fix permissions. This is a handy feature to use if you're getting FC's that can't be cleared by going to /settings/applications/manage applications/name of app/clear data.
For examply, I just did a restore of RebelROM and the first time I went to open ICS Camera I got a FC. Cleared data, restarted the app, FC. So I booted into CWMR and fixed permissions and upon reboot the camera now works fine. Just a heads up for those who aren't familiar with this feature.

What's an "FC"?
I tried the "Fix Permissions" feature just to see how it worked. It completed after a few minutes and everything seems to be working just as well as it did before.

If you had no problems before fixing permissions, you won't see anything different. This is only for those having fc issues or other app related issues that arent fixed by more standard means. It's not a guarantee this will fix it either, just another thing to try along the way.

Hi there there is a counter running after the 'done!' message, any idea what is this?
Thanks man! fixed my problem

Mine just got through within like 10 seconds.

Mine was not 10 seconds but it did get done with 3 or 4 minutes (Galaxy S3 CWM v5.5.0.4). I realized after posting that this was not a thread for my phone, but I thought I'd let you know that it was not instantaneous even on my device (also you can thank Google for sending me to this thread instead of my normal lurking grounds (S3 / Nexus 10)).

[Q] Android 4.3 Camera getting gallery has stopped

Hi,
Thanks for a very helpful forum!
I have installed [ROM] Android 4.3 (JSS15J) on Nexus S in thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380527
Camera works but every 1-4 photo i hangs with message "unfortunately, gallery has stopped" and i have to reopen the camera.
When switching from front to back camera it happens every time. Both cameras work.
Everythins else on the phone works like a charm.
- I'm using TWRP.
- Rooted with UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip
- I have tried different gapp packages: gapps-jb43-20130810-dmd151.zip and gapps-jb43-20130726-signed.zip
- I have reinstalled everything severals times from scratch.
- Before every install i have wiped everything thats possible, cache/dalvik etc.
- Tried different camera apps and they dont produce this problem.
- Tried "Take bug report" several times but nothing happens after that, weird.
Ive searched the internet and read every thread on this forum with similar problems, nothings helps.
If anyone out there know anything i dont about fixing this, let me know
I went from stock 4.1.2 and never had any camera problems.

yes that I use and I don't have any problem
From posts i have read i feel im not alone with this problem, or am i??
Switching from front to back camera makes it FC every time.
Any tip how to dig deeper to find whats going on?
This is how i fixed it!
I changed to this ROM instead.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402655
And this gapp package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Much more stable, for me at least.
No more FC when switching camera or taking shots.
Im a very happy puppy!

[Q] Nexus 5 camera does not record video

My wife has Nexus 5 (it is completely stock and unrooted with unlocked bootloader) running running Android 4.4.2. Recently, the stock camera app stopped recording videos. Tapping the record button does not do anything while camera works perfectly in photo mode. I factory reset the phone but the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
lock the bootloader and send it back

Try to clear data and cache from camera in settings.
If that doesnt work either and you really have done the factory reset, you have to send it to repair bc of an hardware deffect. :crying:

I will try that but I think factory resetting clears cache, anyway. The phone camera worked fine previously but now suddenly it stopped.
Thanks anyway.
I have the same problem, when I change the camera app to record nothing happens when I press the red record button. I think the problem started when I upgraded to 4.4.2

And you flashed the right one? Hammerhead-4.4.2
Like i said before, if that doesnt help, you have to send it back to get a replacement.
You need to uncompress each download before use, which creates a new directory for that exact download. That directory contains a ./flash-all.sh script, which handles the various operations, installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system. Note that this operation deletes all user data by default

Make yure that data gets wiped also! Dont forget to backup your sdcard bc it gets also wiped.

I did not flash anything. The phone was OTA updated. Please note that the phone received OTA update and when I applied it, it completed its process but did not update (it was still on older android version) and this happened several times (I mentioned this on a separate thread here on XDA old post).

I downgraded Nexus 5 from Android 4.4.2 to 4.4 and now the camera is working fine. But I am afraid of updating it back to 4.4.2.

Yes, I did it. Flashed the stock 4.4.2 and everything seems to work fine. However, when I tried updating using OTA after downgrading the update failed and stopped with "Error" message. After flashing 4.4.2 from scratch will hopefully allow smooth future OTA updates. Thanks everyone.

Good thing is - you got a Nexus, so its easy to flash all the stuff and go back to stock/factory image/recovery/...
:highfive:
Any update on this? I have this exact problem. No unlock, not root just pure OTA stock.
1. Video does not record. You press the red button and no timer comes up.
2. A VID_20140126_224910.mp4.tmp file is created 395.54 KB.
3. Time lapse works as do all the other camera functions.
4. The basic Google FAQ has generic instructions if an app does not work so I followed these.
5. in safe mode the camera works fine.
6. Power off and on again. The Video Camera then works fine and creates normal .mp4 files.
Things I have done that may affected the Camera in the first place;
1. Clear cache.
2. Put a .thumbnails file in DCIM to stop the gigantic .thumbnail folder being created.
3. Running nova launcher.
Unlikely these are a factor as I isolated them as an issue and rebooted but worth a mention just in case.
Camera works but have found the it subsequently stopped working again and had to repeat the Google FAQ steps to fix an app.
To answer my own question I found the uninstalling Said It_1.3.37.apk fixed the problem and just to prove it reinstalling brought the problem back.

Quick update. the developer emailed me back. He co firmed it does the same on his device and will send an update.

[CM13] Can't connect to camera

A few days ago my phone started showing this message ("Can't connect to camera") when I try to open anything camera related. I googled this problem and I found a workaround involving killing the "media" process but my problem doesn't seem to be related to that since this method didn't worked for me. I am sure that this is not hardware related either, I made a test with wiping my phone and with a fresh installation the camera works with no problem but when I restored my backup the problem returns with it.
Try going into the apps settings then clear all data for camera. Reboot phone before you open camera. This worked for me.

Tried that too. No success
I decided to do a fully clean rom installation, my backup is ready already, I'm just waiting for the next nightly.

Rotation and many other thing are not working on android 10

Hi folks,
I've just updated my one plus 6 to android 10 and I already have many problems. The rotation and the automatic brightness are not working anymore. Plus, when you try to put your phone near your ear to listen to an audio message on WhatsApp is not working as well. Am I the only one with these problems?
Thanks
Same here.
Is this a bug or did I something wrong?
mine worked perfectly fine. but i find some issues where when i type on my keyboard it's little bit laggy. that's bother me a lot. so i had to soft reboot it
I get the same issues.. I'd fixed with factory reset, now everything works fine
I wasn't getting notifications of missed calls so factory reset. Then I couldn't access my contacts with the message saying something like, you haven't given all permissions. I downloaded another call app and gave all permissions. It worked fine, so I deleted it and gave all permissions to the OnePlus phone app (including location which I'm sure I never had to give previous). It now works...

Oh my... I don't want to do a factory reset ?
I fixed it by uninstalling Magisk via TWRP (there's now an easy guide to install it in Android 10), rebooting to system, check if the sensors are working again, and then reinstalling Magisk through TWRP again. If this happens again just re-do the procedure, an update will probably fix this.
my sensors went bad when first installing the open beta 30, but with a cache wipe in the recovery, everything should be back to normal again. Well, in my case it was so you should give it a shot as well

I usally don't post comments on this forum but i would like to thank you. I had the same sensor issues since Android 10 and it really grinded my gears..
Just wiped cache from recovery and voila, the auto rotate works like a charm.
Thank you very much my friend and have a great day! :good:
