[Q] Microphone not working on speakerphone - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! My microphone is not working when on speaker but works all other times, including 'OK GOOGLE'. Phone has Lollipop. Any help greatly appreciated.

Same here! But a bit different. I can talk to someone on the other end but it has to be on loud speaker. If i turn off loud speaker(in call) i can hear them but they can not hear me. Ok google only works for me if i put my mouth over the mic but from a distance it does not reconize my voice. Any help would be great. Cheers

I've posted this issue as well. Never got a reply. At the time it seemed like i no one had the issue. This has been an issue to me since 4.2.2. I've recently just discovered that my mic will disable when the audio jack is used and in call. Logcat shows that a driver is disabled when on speakerphone. I've done everything but I've found no solution. I'm desperate.

If I understand corectly the Nexus 5 has two microphones. One with noise cancelation (speakerphone) and one without noise cancelation (mouthpiece). If true then only one is working on our phones.

This may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/noise-reduction-cancellation-t2515657

It may be the case in the driver? Try this firmware - http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...om-xtraslim-1-0-stock-odex-optimized-t2924150

Hi, I have the same issue (I think) when you switch to loudspeaker can people hear you just fine? I have been looking into trying to make the phone microphone act as it does in loudspeaker all the time. I have created a new post here:

I'm with the same issue. People can only hear me when phone is in speaker state. The speaker however doesn't work so then I can't hear them. When not in speaker state I can hear the other party but they can't hear me. I figure that the microphone and speaker it located in the lower part of the phone, behind the little cover so maybe that whole section "went out".
Being able to re-route the microphone used in speaker mode to be used all the time would somehow solve the issue so that would be great.

You have a broken microphone. When you use the headphones or loudspeaker phone uses a second microphone.

[Q] Z3 dual Sim Microphone problem

bought my Z3 dual sim 3 days ago and already getting upset about it.
Microphone is not working on a normal mode, people can not hear me or hear my voice very low.
It is working perfectly while using speakers mode.
I already tried to re install all system and once done microphone is working (even if not perfectly but people can hear at least what i am saying...) and after a while, it is like the microphone is getting an obturation...
I tried as well to unselect the noise control mode but no issues...
it seems to be a software issue.
Somebody can help me?
Android 5 could be able to solve this?
Thanks for your attention!

Mic too low during Bluetooth calls

I'm having an issue with my Idol 3 5.5". It functions normally when in handset or speaker mode I can hear the other party and they can hear me, but when I connect to my car's Bluetooth people tell me they can't hear me or it sounds like the mic is far away and under water. I did not have this problem with my last phone so I do not believe the issue is with my car (it's a Grom unit) I have only had this phone for a couple weeks and have had the issue from the beginning.
I'm running 6.0.1 stock ROM build 7VAB-UEB0
So far I have tried:
turning off and on Bluetooth on my phone during or right before calls
unpairing and repairing my car
I am charging an old Bluetooth earpiece to try that today and make sure it isn't an issue with my car.
Anyone else have this issue and were you able to solve it?
Me too, dont know what to do

Not the same issue. That thread is talking about poor/low microphone when recording video. This thread is about poor microphone quality through bluetooth, which does not use the phone's microphone.
I'm still trying to determine what the issue is. I tried using an old bluetooth headset and the test call was fine so I will try it tomorrow while driving to confirm. It might be that the Idol doesn't like certain bt devices.

After upgrading to Android 10, microphone no longer works for calling

I got my phone on Friday and upgraded it to Andriod 10 this morning, so I didn't have a chance to test if this was also an issue for Android 9. However, when I tried to make a call this afternoon, the other side can no longer hear me, while I can hear the other side just fine.
I tried switching some settings while calling and switching Speaker to be on is enough to get microphone back, then I can switch speaker back to off and use it normally. Rebooting the phone will cause the issue to reappear.
Trying to see if any of you are having the same issue.
I have the exact same issue. The mic works after I toggle the speaker, but another issue happens in subsequent calls... sound no longer comes out of the earpiece, only through the bottom speaker. It's such a bizarre bug.
My microphone works but my headphones don't work (no sound) when plugged into 3.5mm jack. Needed to talk via speakerphone or earpiece.
Seems they didn't fully test their calling on this first patch?
Music via 3.5mm works.
WW_17.1810.1910.68 seems to have fixed my issues.

With the 3.5mm audio call issue only I assume?

Toggling the speakerphone seems to fix the audio coming out of the bottom speaker. A fix for the fix?
Is there any fix for this issue? I am facing the same problem, the phone speaker and microphone will not work during the call and playing music, but works fine if I toggle to speaker mode. Music is a problem, but works fine with headphone. Very strange.
I am running into same issue on Android 10 with latest updates. Toggling the speakerphone one and off fixes the problem for a while and the it comes back on. Third party VOIPs make calls with no issues.
Looking at Asus official forums - you can see the problem reported on a variety of models and I don't see a resolution anywhere. I got a bad feeling about this...

Are you on tmobile? They have noted in the forum that they have noted it with tmobile and are working on a solution.

Interesting - I'm on Mint Mobile which operates on the T-Mobile network. So maybe this affects me and their solution will address my issue. Thank you.
Having the same microphone problems on T-Mobile as well

I fixed it
