Tigerbox tempered glass screen protector - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Just bought this bad boy thinking my screen was to be protected for good.. Sorely mistaken, even though my screen may be protected and I applied it perfectly (even if I do say so myself). It didn't stick down around the edges, not one speck of dust under the screen, alignment is spot on, just unfortunate that it didn't stick..
£5.99 on Amazon..
I'll keep it on in the hope that it'll ease down but I have seen this before and its basically a dud.. Will get another one just to see if it was a bad batch.

With pretty much none of them working, I didn't think people were still trying glass screen protectors. To answer your question, I doubt it's a bad batch. Almost all glass screen protectors are doing this.

I've never bought a glass screen protector for my phone and seeing as im experienced at fitting them I thought I'd give it a whirl. Anyway thank you for your supportive comment.

To anyone else, apparently this is what's known as the halo effect. Shame the seller's didn't mention this, if it's unavoidable then itd be worth mentioning.

Bottom line here is the screen is protected, with the screen on the edges aren't visible so no big deal.

Best static grip screen protector?

Can someone recommend a static grip screen protector, please? I don't like the idea of the ones that need to be squeegeed on there, but I'm hoping there are some good alternatives.

Any experience with any of the other clarivue screen protectors (anti glare, mirror, or privacy)? If so, what were your impressions of them?
i just use the gorilla glass, dont like the feel of the screen with a protector on. Also, with this nice plastic case i got from best buy, the phone can never land on the screen if dropped.

I havent used any of those other ones, i've read good things about anti glare and ultra clear. but havent heard anything positive or negative about the others.
also, i have used a generic mirror screen on my hero before, makes the phone look nice when its off, however horrible to use in daylight and also screen brightness has to be all the way up so kills battery

I'd like to do this too, I absolutely love the feel and look of the phone without a screen protector. But I am too worried about scratches. I keep hearing people say things like it's Gorilla Glass and can't scratch. I watched the videos where people attempt to scratch the Gorilla Glass screen on purpose and can't. But every once in a while I read a comment from someone that says they got a scratch on their Gorilla Glass screen and they have no idea how. I'm not sure what to think.
Got my clarivue today, installed easy, can barely tell its there and doesn't mess with capacitive buttons on bottom.

Is gorilla glass what the screen is made of? 'Cuz I scratched mine. :-( My accessories were in the mail but I went out on a My Tracks expedition on a local hiking trail over the long weekend (couldn't resist! I've never had GPS on a phone) and I dropped my phone and it got scratched on what must've been a pebble in the otherwise softish dirt trail.
More accurately, my phone fell out of my pocket when I jumped thinking a spider landed on my head.
Received my clarivue screen protectors in the mail today and I am less than impressed with them.

It's not the quality of the screen protector itself that I have problem with. It is completely clear (as described) and has a nice feel to the touch. Not the same silky smoothness as glass obviously, but not a rubbery feel to it either.
The overall cut and fitment of the screen protector is my biggest problem with it. Clarivue says that all their screen protectors are cut slightly small (which is fine) but the design for the epic isn't centered properly. If you align the top correctly (so that the front facing camera and sensors are exposed) you will find that the entire screen protector favors the right hand side of the phone. This leaves you with a noticeable gap on the left side and practically no gap on the right side.
I also encountered some installation issues since the second tab did not want to separate from the screen protector. I wouldn't hold that against clarivue however, but in my case I had to physically separate them which caused the corner to not adhere to the screen properly.
I'm going to contact clarivue about these issues on monday and see what they have to say about it. I've heard good things about seidio's ultimate screen guard and will mostly like order a pair of them when they become available.
I had one custom fitted at a mall near me for 9 dollars. I really cant tell its there and it add to the feel of the screen (less greasy/finger marks).
i have a tiny scratch and have no idea what it's from. I assume it was a rivet on my jeans or some****, kinda disappointed since I've checked out people trying to scratch the screen but couldn't

Beware of screen protectors

Sister bought a Samsung Note 3 and gave me her S4. There was a yellow colour tint all over, specially noticeable on white. I googled for yellow tint on amoled screens for about two days. It was a fact. Whites weren't white indeed. I started to consider to give the phone back and get myself an IPS. Then removed the screen protector. Now most of the yellow tint is gone. So, beware.

Touching this screen and the back of the phone feels good. I don't believe any protection can give this feeling and can always stay clean. All of them will effect the display of the screen. I reject to use protection material. I think the designers could produce phones with them if they wanted to.

Sounds like it was one disgustingly dirty screen protector.....Like coated with cigarette tar or something. Screen protectors are meant to be replaced, not a lifetime product......
She probably mucked it up with a combination of sweat or oils from her face, hair, and fingers throughout her time with it.
Regardless, that's what happens with basic screen protectors. That doesn't happen with glass screen protectors. And there's no compromises with them either.
The Spigen Glas.tR that I bought last week is almost unnoticeable, and feels exactly like the bare glass of the phone itself. Much more responsive than the Zagg I had previously too

The point is; why would I protect a screen I will never touch? That screen is made to be used as is. Many engineers worked on it and decided it's good to mass produce. Glass protectors should be OK, cause the dirt could be cleaned, but I'm obsessed with the edges while holding stuff for long hours. Glass protectors' edges should be worse than plastics to touch. This phone feels like touching a naked woman when naked.
If protecting is meant to protect to keep the phone's value when selling, not worth the hassle. I prefer giving away electronics after using, cause 2nd hand traders will never give me what my stuff is really worth.

Only when being a cheapskate. Proper protectors are invisible. And have smooth rounded edges. Zero complaints.
do you really need one
Haha why is this even a thread? Isn't it common sense ? This thread will be worthy If the screen protector discoloured the phone itself. But this guy's telling us his crapwrap yellowed over time (duh).
As a man who doesn't have common sense, I just read the most worthy post at XDA from a raccoon.
Anyway, never used a protector before and I thought there might be other people looking at yellow screens but not aware the protector's effect just like myself. Easy to get, eh?

Well, apparently it is crap, because of the yellowing (and the orange-peel effect is horrific, but to each his own). Zagg is incredibly overrated imho.
A proper protector will not turn yellow. My two year old SGP Ultra Clear was as transparent as when applied new.

Couldn't agree more. Have used zagg since iphone 4, 4s, 5, until galaxy s4 last year. Not only is zagg overpriced, it also has poor quality- yellowing, blue-tint from jeans, & orange peel effect.
This went from a simple informative post about some screen protectors slowly tinting over time, to a thread to tell people they don't have common sense if they don't buy the best branded screen protectors.
I do want to say thanks to the OP for trying to inform people who may or may not know to check the screen protector if they get discoloration on screen. It did sound like it was a post about screen protectors messing up the original screen at first, but when I read the thread it was pretty clear he was trying to educate people about the protector itself being discolored.
When looking for a cheap screen protector brand that does not seem to have discoloration and still a good solid glassy feel - I prefer 'Realook' , usually bought on amazon for less than the other brands. No discoloration on any of my previous protectors, though I tend to take exceptional care of my devices.
Given that basic but good tempered glass protectors are commonly selling for the same prices as the sheets, I really hope they will fully replace them in the near future. I have one on my S4, and it is the best purchase I ever made. Sharper than the plastic and feels better too. Got it for $6, and after months of use, still no scratches.

Tempered Glass Screen Protector

Just a quick question for anyone. I am looking for a tempered glass screen protector that actually fits. The 3 that I have ordered do not cover the screen completely. If anyone uses one that actually covers the display edge to edge could you please tell me what brand. Thanks all

I have been using a Moshi iVisor edge-to-edge for about 4 months and have had no problems with it. I have used it in conjunction with a UAG case and it fits perfectly. Note that it only has adhesive around the edges, and not on the screen itself. Others have reported the edges lifting and allowing dust in over time, but I have not yet experienced this (it is supposed to be fully washable and reusable, should this happen). Also it is one of those protectors with the 'grid of dots' on the glass (something to do with the way the glass is hardened, or touch sensitivity or something). This is only visible in direct sunlight when the screen is off, and I never really notice it.

There are other edge-to-edge protectors, if you check out this thread (especially toward the end) you'll find others who have used them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/accessories/tempered-glass-screen-protectors-t2878038
I'm thinking particularly of this one, which is similar to the Moshi:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tech-Armor-Samsung-Ballistic-Protector/dp/B00STN7SQY
Both edge-to-edge and those with a gap around have their pluses and minuses - but I, for one, can't stand the gap around the screen protector that the non-edge-to-edge protectors have, sorry but I think it looks dreadful. :/

Thanks for your reply. I started the thread because I just got this device and when I attempted to check accessories it would loop me back to a blank page. This is the main reason I usually stick to one thread on XDA. People that just sit and wait to jump on someone for a simple question without bothering to send a PM but would rather say what they think they need to for everyone to see...so they can get a thumbs up. I really appreciate your reply . You would fit in well with the thread Im always on...respectful..fun..all around good time...so heres a ?up for you for acting like an adult. Im not new to this game...I just understand the respectful way to go about something?
FirekatV19N3..(FireGearV20)
So I got my second nuglas from eBay. Just like my first one it's cut small. But IMO it's the best for phone's that can't get rid of the halo. It has a very good oleophobic screen and very smooth. Mine has very little halo on sides and around home button. It still looks great with the minimal halo I can deal with.

Curved screen and protectors

They said it would not cover the whole screen but I didn't think it would be this extreme. Looking straight down on the device you'd see pixels outside of the screen protector on both sides.
Riffue.cn
This one is wider and covers all the pixels, but since it does not follow the screen curve there's about 1.5mm of free hanging protector on each side.
Panzer.me
For this one they tried to curve it along the screen edge, but it didn't quite fit, which caused large areas where the protector would lift from the screen. The downwards facing edge of the protector seems to be covered in the glue like substance, the central area of the protector did not stick to the phone in any way. Possibly because of the bad fit there would be some air between the protector and phone in the middle of the screen, this caused some missed taps. Away of the center of the protector the touch recognition would be better. This one seemed the least susceptible to fingerprints.
Thank you for the testing.
So I will not buy one of these.
Maybe I will try a thin l foil or I will use it without any protection.
thanks to who invented these fu*king curved screens.. for us that always use glass protectors it is simply a nightmare.. or you use protectors as big as the pixeled area and live with the edges coming off, or you take protectors smaller than the pixeled area that looks bad and don't protect all the screen.. damn
curious to know if this curved glass would be any better?
https://www.roxfit.mobi/collections...ed-clear-tempered-glass?variant=2219880841228
I am on the road so I cant post any pics, but I have the roxfit curved protector. It does match the screen except the curve isn't perfect thus the very edge around the entire screen is collecting dust. With the screen sensitivity issue however I'm debating on pulling it off. Hitting the same button 2-3 times to get something to register sucks
To be honest, this is what is putting me off buying this phone is the curved screen, i really dont see the point of it to be honest, tempted to jusct pick up the XZ1 compact instead.
You really can't even tell the screen is curved at all. Just the edges are slightly. It's not even noticeable.
yeah if the curved screen is the only thing preventing you from getting this phone, forget it, apart from this (and you'll notice just if you use glass protectors) the phone is simply wonderful in all other aspects l

Bugs of a new phone. The protector I got also overhanged into the curve. (I was under the impression that it was a curved screen protector when buying it, but it was not.) I assume these companies didn't have exact specs or physical phones to get it perfect with, and since we all want our phones protected from day one, they have to release what they got. :/
Has anyone found a screen protector that fits halfway decently yet?
i used a liquid screen protector called nanofixit in the netherlands. it makes the screen super smooth and didn't have a scratch after a week usage without any case. i had to send it back for repair and will have it back tomorrow.

I've tried this one as well and might have a worse fit than what you're experiencing. It was impossible to get a complete seal in the glue around the edge. The bad fit made the center of the screen an especially bad place the get touches registered, even worse then the panzer.me glass. IIRC there was also a shimmering issue between the edge of the LCD and whatever non-stick film they've put under the protector.
Does curved screen protectors exist for other phones that does not rely on a glue around the edges to stay put?

Based on threads in this forum:

and amazon reviews:
https://www.amazon.com/Nanofixit-ONE-Titanium-OFFICAL-antibacterial/product-reviews/B019Y4IPU4
it seems the nanofixit products might not be worth the asking price. (Scam perhaps?)
Did you get your phone back? What was the issue? Do you usually get scratches on phones in a weeks time?
I'm asking because fail to see how a thin layer of liquid could provide any scratch resistance, besides whatever the screen already has. And as such it might just make liquid slide off the screen easily for a while and not much else.
It is my belief the nano liquid products are a scam. Granted I've never tried it myself.....but I don't see how it could possibly work.

it was my misstake for not being clearer when posting my message, I have another problem with the phone which is not related to the screen at all. My phone can't receive incoming calls for some reason. The screen is still in a tip top shape and i have also accidentally dropped the phone on a stone floor from around 0,5 meters. Nothing to see on the screen (or the phone for that matter). The reason that it can work in my opinion is that you can have very hard plastic nowadays that is not worse than metal (see carbon fiber for example). If they can keep it in a liuid state and it can harden itself out when in contact with air, why is it not possible? Chemistry is nowadays so advanced I wouldn't be surprised if they can make even better nano coatings, if you have enough money for it
Bought Skinomi's protector and it was a perfect fit. It is not a hard screen protector its more of a clear flexible skin. Due to it being flexible it molded right to the curved edges of the screen without any issues. Until they come up with a hard protector this should do just fine though, atleast itll keep minor scuffs and scratches to a minimum.
Ultimate Shield seems to do its job - at least for me. Uses glue to stick, but covers the whole screen. Makes a bit harder to register touch sometimes.

Official OnePlus 6 Tempered Glass Protector. How does it Fare?

Now that people are starting to receive their phones and accessories from OnePlus, I am very curious to hear people's thoughts on the official tempered glass protector offered from OnePlus.
Specifically, how does it fit with the OEM cases OnePlus offers. Most importantly, does it fit with the thicker OnePlus Bumper cases?
The good news, according to OnePlus's official install video posted on their website, it does look like it fully adheres to the screen.
https://www.oneplus.com/oneplus-6-3d-tempered-glass-screen-protector
Looking forward to feedback before I place an order for one to potentially replace the pre-applied plastic screen protector.

I will say the preapplied plasic protector surprised me.wkth how good it feels. I usually do a glass protector but once I get my I will probably leave the plasitc on to see how it wears. Be good for the long term review since most on even know it's there at first

Here take a look at this. I''ve just posted it to the official forums to I'll C+P here;
----
Hi all,
Hope you've not forgotten me! I'm back. I went down to the London launch as I was super excited to see the OnePlus 6 in person and I've now got my hands on the phone and the official tempered glass. So as I have done every year, I'm going to be testing out as many accessories that I can get my hands on, starting with the Official Tempered Glass Screen Protector!
Feel free to watch the video to get all this information, or just scroll down and read it if you prefer!
Some of you wonder why take of the pre-applied factory screen? Well for me, it's all about finding the best protection for your device and from experience the pre-applied screen is not that. It's a nice bonus, as if you're not buying the official you'll have to wait around a week or so before third party manufacturers get screens ready for sale. Mine was also riding slightly high on the screen, which meant using it whilst having gestures turned on was a bit of a nightmare.
As usual the screen protector, comes well packaged, with some excellent tools- most of which you won't need if you're taking the pre-applied screen off and then putting this one on straight away.
The screen protector as with the last few years comes on a single slab of plastic/glass, which you will need to be careful off when you're removing the screen protector from it. I've seen many people CRACK their screen protector at this point. Don't be that person! Go slow, but surely. And for goodness sake once you've peeled it off, don't turn it around and let all the dust particles in your house get on it!
The screen protector fits nicely on the phone and feels pretty decent. High quality!
Postives -
- Feels good
- Looks good
- Fits with the free case
Negatives -
- Finger print magnet - seriously, had it on for a few minutes and it was covered.
- Still has the black border, so you DO still get a 3D effect where you're missing an (admittedly small) portion of your screen
- Hardest OP screen protector I've ever put on.

^ Dang! I can't believe how difficult it was for him to remove the bubbles with that protector. And in the end it still had a bubble that kept returning. This sure did make me glad I opted not to pay extra for that tempered glass protector. It's almost as if it doesn't have strong enough adhesive.
Regardless, I plan on sticking with the pre-applied screen protector for a bit before making a decision on a glass protector. In fact, if the pre-applied protector holds up well, I may not ever bother taking it off. I must say that it would be really nice to finally get a phone and never even worry about spending money on a screen protector, or trying to perfectly apply one, for that matter.
I just hope my pre-applied protector isn't positioned too high, as the above video reviewer mentioned his was.
unfortunately my preapplied screen protector is a tiny bit too high for my taste too, so when swiping up with gestures enabled you can feel the slight edge :/
I really hope whitedome is going to bring a TGSP for the OP6 on the market

Here take a look at this. I''ve just posted it to the official forums to I'll C+P here;

Hi all,
Hope you've not forgotten me!
Let me know if you have any questions on it, and I'll endeavor to keep you all updated on how it functions!
Thanks!

Thanks for this! Your videos are always great when it comes to these things. Keep up the great work!
Do you think the bit the pops up might simply be just because of the curvature of the screen towards the corner?
(curved screened phones are always a nightmare when it comes to putting screen protectors on). If the underside of the screen protector is curved aswell in order to fit the curved screen of the device, even a fraction of difference can cause these kinds of problems, whereas flat ones you can even get away with them positioned slightly off, and they will always sit down perfectly flat.
Can you confirm whether the curvature of the OnePlus 6's screen is just around the edges, or is it the whole of the front that is actually curved?
(If you see what I mean).
I could be wrong, but from what I can see on the video, it does almost look like it's the whole screen that is rounded and not just the edges (but it's hard to tell from a video, so can't know for sure)

My pre-applied protector only lasted an hour on mine. The edges don't stick enough to avoid random lint and dust from sliding just a bit underneath it. Also the swipe up gestures from the bottom of the phone feel weird as you bump the protector. I'm not sure but I think it's because the protector is a bit thick.

That’s a shame. My phone arrives today and we leave for Mexico tomorrow for a week. I was hoping the pre-applied protector would be perfect. The edges of it are probably going to look like garbage by the time we get back.
the protective film, can not attach clean and then Euro 22, so I can not recommend. Shade for the money

What?
I really like the TGP. It fits seamlessly with the nylon case where the edges go all the way to the case and it feels completely natural. I thought the black outlining would bother me, but it works really well with the phone. I highly recommend the OEM TGP. No issues with it being compatible with the bumper case.
I have read on a Dutch forum that there is only glue on the edges of the screen protector. The middle is coated with some sort of oil so you won't see any bubbles.
This would explain the YouTube video with the corner not sticking. Could somebody confirm this?
This is a problem with all "curved edge" phones. Really makes me wish Samsung did not have as much sway in the market as they do. We would still have flat screens!

More importantly, how difficult was it to get a bubble free install?

The tempered glass screen protector from OnePlus has adhesive throughout the entire protector, not just around the sides. Watch an install video and you'll see.

It wasn't to bad. There were a couple of stubborn small bubbles, but it you press and hold on them for a second or two with the included tool they go right away. I have a completely bubble free TGP that took maybe 2 minutes to put on

Well crap. Now I wish I went ahead and ordered the protector with the phone. Now I've got to get through a week in Mexico with the pre-applied protector and hope it doesn't peel up until I get back.
Ordering the TGSP from OnePlus right now. Thanks for your input.
Just installed it and it looks great in my opinion! Wasn't that hard. If you apply it with the included case on, it helps a ton with lining it up; you literally just need to drop it into place.
I did get a couple pieces of dust underneath but they are super small and hardly noticeable, so I don't want to risk lifting the protector to remove it (risking more dust to get under) (or risking losing adhesion).
It does have a bit of that "3D look" but I got used to it very quick and now I don't notice it.
If there is text way at the edge of the screen, it does slightly get cut off but luckily most apps/websites don't have text that close to the edge.
Overall it's a solid protector and I'm probably going to stick with it until the end of its life (unless it cracks or something of course lol).
