Touch Screen Issue - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
i'm experiencing a problem with my shield tablet since couple days ago. My touch screen is not working. Up until yesterday i had to reboot in order to make it to work but now even when I'm rebooting is not working.
I tried to reset to factory setting but it's still the same. I'm curently running lollipop. Does anyone has a solution?
Thanks in advance for your replys guys.!

Does the screen work when you restart it in bootloader mode?

hopefully you get a good answer mine is starting to lose multitouch at times.

Then your device is sadly broken.
Just RMA it to Nvidia, they will replace it swiftly.

I've just got this issue today. Using my tablet normally and suddenly the screen touches aren't executed or responsive. I haven't updated to lollipop still using Kitkat 4.4.2

I am on my second shield tab and multi-touch is a problem. For example, in a game with analog joystick on left side of screen and pressing the action buttons on the right side to not both work at the same time. Happens on multiple games. Is this a known issue and is there a way to calibrate or correct it? Thanks.
EDIT: i just did a touch screen calibrate and that fixed it. good to go for now

Lost touchscreen handling in upper and lower part of my screen!!!Pls Help!
I have a rooted device with xsba's custom rom (4.0.4). The problem started before this ROM. I am pretty sure that this is no rom issue. I have flashed the phone several times with numerus roms. Problem persists.
I already have changed touchscreen once because of a serius fall (broke) approximately 6 months ago.
These are all the facts. Before xsba's rom i used thiaiz o3d. (2.3.7). The problem started one day that i hadn't charged the phone up. When the battery fell under 5 % the phone went berserk. (Numerus button presses all the time)
I couldn't even reboot. When I finally turned it off by removing battery and restarted the phone the upper field of touchscreen of the phone never worked again.
Yesterday i failed to charge again.ASfter finally restarting the same issue appeared in the lower field of touchscreen. Please advice!!!!!!!!
Is there a way to solve this problem without changing the touchscreen?

Now , you need to go to developer options in the settings and enable show touches option. Then you touch and slide to the parts that don't work . If you see the line going there , then it's a problem with your ROM. If it's not , then you possibly have a broken touchscreen. Check the contact of the touchscreen ribbon and see if it's tightly sitting on the slot , press it down and try again.
If it's not working , you have no choice but to replace the touchscreen. You can buy one off eBay for 19 dollars and free shipping. It's made in China but it works well without problems for the past 6 months with my device.
Hope I helped.
Cheers!

HI did you ever solve this? I have the same problem, or very similar with middle and lower sections of screen dead, strange ghost touches and screen going crazy every so often, all started after I rooted phone. Was it just a broken touch screen? Cheers

[Q] Touchscreen Issues

I purchased my NVIDIA tablet yesterday but having problems with the responsiveness coming from sleep. About 1/5 of the time, my tablet will not respond to my finger/stylus. I always have to press the power button a few times to get it to work.
I have all the updates, including the recent update from yesterday. Is this defective?
Thanks in advance

I've had that many times during one single day. Had to literally reboot the thing 5 or 6 times that day. COMPLETELY NO RESPONSE FROM THE SCREEN, ONLY BUTTONS. Still have to clue what the deal was. Hasn't done it since, but the issue DOES exist. And yes, I bought from the very first batch, straight from Nvidia.
I've had this problem since day one. Also the tab crashes at random times and it getting ****ing annoying. Thinking of returning the thing. It's worse than useless. Turn the screen off and you can bet that i'll have to reboot to get the touchscreen working again.
Idk why this helped but it did. I switched from using philz touch recovery to cwm recovery...now screen works less than half the time I turn it back on. That's still better than never.

I've never experienced this on Stock, Only on Pac-Man ROM and CM11. Either way it is very annoying.
This is a reaaallllllyy ghetto work around until the issue is solved, but the way I worked around it on CM11 is to have Tasker and Secure settings wake the device for a few seconds every 45 mins - 1 hour. Ever since I've had Tasker performing that task I've had no issues with the screen being unresponsive.
I have figured out how to fix the touchscreen issues. All you have to do is go under Settings>Apps>All Apps and find anything that ranges from Google Taiwanese or any Google foreign language app and disable it. There should be two of them. I haven't had any problems since I disabled them. :good:
I found something that has worked so far. I always use Nova launcher since it's my fav. I didn't think much of leaving the launcher that came with the rom. I went to titanium backup and froze the other launcher and it solved the touchscreen issue. This also fixed the app crashing problems most of the time. Still if I run more than two applications at the same time everything on the tab starts crashing. Seems to be a ram problem. I checked max backround processes and it's at "normal" which usually is fine. If anyone has a solution to the crash problem please let me know. Meanwhile i'll keep trying stuff.

Same problem here... Funnily enough I just wanted to try a custom rom to see whether this issue will be fixed and a new official upgrade to 7.0 came up - https://shield.nvidia.com/support/shield-tablet-k1/release-notes/1
Will see whether ithe problem is gone.
There was a time when my screen became a bit unresponsive. Very random. Calibrating the touch sensor fixed it up. Its a bit hidden but you'll find it by going into Settings>About Tablet (device)>Click on Model Number 3 times>The calibrating settings will pop up hit Touch then hit Start. It'll do it's thing and reboot. Hopefully it helps.

I had a similar issue with touchpoints not working near the corners, calibration fixed things for me also. It's pretty quick and easy to do so I urge you to try that before doing a factory reset.
So far so good... Android N seems to fix the problem

Unresponsive Touch Screen. Some Ghost Touches.

Hi,
My TF300T stopped responding to my touches and has some ghost touches now occurring just under the ASUS logo in the bezel. Has anyone else experienced this and can offer a fix? Is this a shot digitizer?
FYI, I've tried a cold start, cleaning the screen, and resetting the tablet using the small hole on the left. None of those worked. The track pad still works so I can still use the tablet as a netbook, but that sucks.
Any other suggestions?

I've tried all the fixes in that thread. And in that thread, their screens still work for them ... mine doesn't at all.
FYI, I also don't use a screen protector

I can understand. There is also a lot of trash in that thread and no convincing solution except via RMA from Asus. It's still a mystery!
I don't know what rom do you use and what recovery. What do you think about format data (not wipe or factory reset) and then a clean reinstallation of your current rom. If it is a soft ware problem it might be solved. If not it might surly be a hard ware problem. That means to swap the touch screen. On the other hand before realize such a decision you could try get back to the last Asus stock rom JB and look what happened then. Trial and error is the only way to figure out the cause in order to solve it. Please keep us posted whatever you are going to try. Thanks!
I'm using KatKiss MM v28 and Kang TWRP 2.8.7.2. I launched TWRP, but was unable to use either the touchscreen nor trackpad. The trackpad is unsupported in the version I use, I guess. I suspect this is a hardware issue as the touchscreen didn't work in TWRP.
I'm travelling now and don't have a suitable place to open up the tablet to look for loose connections. I'll do that when I get home.

Regarding your suspicion about the track pad support I may tell you the inverse. I'm also using #28 and the same TWRP like you. The track pad of the dock works fine and the USB mouse as well either wireless or with cable. I have tried both.

Hmm. I wonder if the ghost touches are interfering with the trackpad. I'll try a USB mouse when I'm back at home. Thanks for confirming they work in TWRP.
Tried a USB mouse in TWRP. It works. Flashed v29, but the issue remains. I may try formattig data later.
I took the back off the tablet and disconnected a couple connections on the digitizer. I first disconnected the two smaller ribbon cables. The ghost touches remained after rebooting. I then disconnected the larger cable above them and the ghost touches stopped.
I think I'll look into a replacement digitizer.

Ghost touches + touchscreen is not working

Hello guys,
I bought second hand OnePlus 7 Pro 6/128 GM 1913 Stock, unrooted, version: 10.0.3. GM21BA. . The screen worked fine for a while. Since I rebooted once, the screen started to have a lot of ghost touches on the right side of the display. When I turn off/on the screen, it stops, but the screen is not responsive at all. Sometimes it´s working again for few seconds and then ghost touches will appear again.
I read similar issues with ghost touches here on XDA, but these were connected to NFC or some apps and update should fix it. Not for me unfortunately, I am running latest Android version.
I bought it without warranty, so I cannot return it. Any ideas? Do you think custom kernel/ROM could help?

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

That thing is broken. Custom ROMs/kernel won't fix it since this is a hardware issue. Sorry dude
How did you bought it without warranty? The device is less than a year old so there should be warranty on it.

I bought is as second hand and I didnt get any invoice. I am just checking if OnePlus can repair it/replace it only based on IMEI number? If yes, that would be great!

Question SOLVED: Touch function of screen sometimes not working

HI
I'm having an issue, where the touch function of the screen sometimes becomes non responsive, and reboot by holding both sidekeys is the only solution. Swithing between tiles by rotating the bezel works, only the touch function is "gone". Resetting the watch doesn't fix it.
I'm running the latest software version (R895FXXU1FVD4), my strap is as tight as can be and I clean the back of the watch every day. I'm running with screen sensitivity set On, as I have a Panzerglass on the screen.
I'm kind of hoping, that I'm not the only one, having this issue, and that someone has a valid solution.
Thanks in advance

Thank you for your input.
I've been using PanzerGlass since Day 1. This is a recent problem. I was hoping it was a software related one, but I'm not so sure anymore. 🥹

do you have moisture under the glass maybe ?
No. Everything looks and feels perfect.
On my watch4classic 46mm
I have the exact same issue from previous firmware update and to get it to responding I have to let watch go to aod mode and then wake watch again
The updates of this new wear os 3 are really messed up and have ruined experience of this watch
Latest software upgrade seems to have solved the problem.
Thanks for your replies and suggestions.
