I use VPN settings on Android and I keep it on. Once the phone rings then the VPN gets disconnected. Is there a way to keep it always alive over 3G/4G?

Q: Why does the VPN disconnect when I make or receive a voice call?
A: Some cellular networks are incapable of maintaining a data connection during a voice call. If Android detects this as a loss of network connectivity, the VPN should enter a pause state during the duration of the call, and automatically resume after the call is complete. However if the loss of data connectivity isn't detected by Android, the VPN connection may time out and disconnect.
So at least try a vpn apps to get a keep alive feature, or reconnection ... even if I cannot totally trust vpn apps
Another idea could be also to use "Tasker" apps via "Secure settings" and trigger a reconnection after hang off the phone.
Hope it helps.
I used to use Tasker & Secure Settings log time back but for another purpose. I think I must be rooted for them to work. How do I configure Tasker to trigger reconnection?

I got my HTC HD2 on yesterday and it's a really nice device but there's one thing I don't like: If I want to go into internet by wlan, i always have to switch off the mobile phone network, because if i don't do that the browser will use the mobile phone network.

By Default, WIFI takes priority when it's on so you don't use your data connection.

But when the phone is on standby.. in the background it starts up the data connection on the phone.. for automatic downloads like email, weather etc..
instead of using the wifi.. I had manually turned the data connection off from the settings.. even then the same thing..
any help.
hmm.. i would recommend using nodata. search for it.. its a program that will allow you to turn off mobile internet and use only wifi.. if that what your after?
Any way to do this? I've only got SMS and mms working using mod but wanted to make calls using my simcard in the xoom

Do you mean calling off wifi as opposed to using a 3g or 4g network? If so, then yes you can with groove ip. I have the mz602 without mobile data enabled, and am able to call people off my google contacts with my tablet. To disable mobile data I believe you just swap your tablet to airplane mode. I havent been able to recieve calls but, from what I understand, that is just a matter of changing the settings and enabling google chat.... it is somewhere in the forums, another thing in my list of things to do
Hope this helps

Can my motorola xoom wifi work with my sim card because i wanna make phone calls with it and also receive sms and mms on, as my mobile phone
Like any stock carriers SMS service you don't need mobile data or wifi to send and receive messages, I believe they are sent over the background just by being connected to said carries network. Is there an app or is it feasible to send SMS over the network without charging me? I only get 200 messages/month and I currently use text plus and its a battery sipper. I hate the fact I also need power hungry 4g enabled on my phone just to get my messages. Any help? Thanks

Who is your carrier? Pretty sure you do not need 4G (or any data) to send/retrieve SMS, only MMS.
You can disable your 4G data to save battery power, but you can still get/make calls and send/retrieve SMS. I personally use a data on/off widget that I place on my home screen, which makes it real easy to turn on/off the data to save the battery. I only turn it on when I need to use the internet in some way (or for MMS). It's called Data ON-OFF by Antonio La Rocca. It's free, very simple and works great (widget even looks good and has a few skin options).
Or you can simply go into your settings to disable 4G/3G data manually. Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> and uncheck "Use packet data". This will leave only the basic connection to your carrier for calls and SMS. You will still get a prompt for MMS, but you will need to enable the data to download/view it.
I have yet to see one that provides true free txt, all i have seen require the use of data, so being near a wifi hotspot or enabling your data seems to be the only way to go, would be interesting to know if there is an actual free sms service without the use of data.
I know that I can use att SMS. I'm talking about a 3rd party app

Whenever I attempt to turn on my data while in a call (and data had been off prior to the call) the phone gives me the "not available over VoLTE call"
I have searched for solutions to this which include:
- making sure VOLTE is enabled on my verizon account and on the phone
- Network settings reset
- making sure Advanced calling is enabled...
None of the above work. Anyone have any solutions?

Go into settings, Advanced calling, then advanced calling again and turn the toggle to off. This will turn off hd calling and will allow your mobile data to be used during calls.

Thank you! This does work in that it allows you to switch data "on" while in a call. However, after just testing it, I only get the "1x" data symbol after enabling data and when I try to use data via facebook, chrome, etc. then it gives me the message "data is unavailable while in calls".
will still have to look for another way around it i guess
Apex, one thing I have noticed is that for some reason, LG has decided to disable mobile data during a phone call. In my mind, this is very frustrating as keeping mobile data active during a phone call is one of the main features of even having 4g lte outside of the 4g speeds itself. I dont know why LG has decided this, but then again, they also decided that getting rid of the app drawer would be a good idea too. THat idea has backfired on them to the point that they had to release an update just to incorporate it back in.
