Cannot turn on data while in a call (if data was off before call)? - Verizon LG G5 Questions & Answers

Whenever I attempt to turn on my data while in a call (and data had been off prior to the call) the phone gives me the "not available over VoLTE call"
I have searched for solutions to this which include:
- making sure VOLTE is enabled on my verizon account and on the phone
- Network settings reset
- making sure Advanced calling is enabled...
None of the above work. Anyone have any solutions?

Go into settings, Advanced calling, then advanced calling again and turn the toggle to off. This will turn off hd calling and will allow your mobile data to be used during calls.

Thank you! This does work in that it allows you to switch data "on" while in a call. However, after just testing it, I only get the "1x" data symbol after enabling data and when I try to use data via facebook, chrome, etc. then it gives me the message "data is unavailable while in calls".
will still have to look for another way around it i guess

Apex, one thing I have noticed is that for some reason, LG has decided to disable mobile data during a phone call. In my mind, this is very frustrating as keeping mobile data active during a phone call is one of the main features of even having 4g lte outside of the 4g speeds itself. I dont know why LG has decided this, but then again, they also decided that getting rid of the app drawer would be a good idea too. THat idea has backfired on them to the point that they had to release an update just to incorporate it back in.

Question about shutting off data...

I'm going on a cruise soon and want to take my phone. My question is how can I shut off all data but allow text messages to still come in?
How about a tool like smartbar to turn off data and then google voice to send your texts to email
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You could use the "toggle mobile data"widget that comes with juice defender. I can still receive regular text messages but no picture messages.

if you have a custom rom with the Extended power Menu option, just bring it up and chose "Data Network Mode" to disable or enable data.
You can also go to settings, Wifi and Network and click on Mobile Network, uncheck "Use Packet Data"

What they said. And then open messages hit options and down at the bottom turn off auto download under multi media messaging. That way it will give you the option to download multi media messages when you chose to do so(after you turn mobile data back on). Otherwise the messages will break and you won't be able to retrieve them at a later date. You will still get standard texts as usual.

I use "SwitchPro Widget" to turn off the radios.
"Quick settings" is another good one works well for me.
There have been many threads on this. The simplest thing to do is put the phone in airplane mode and call AT&T and tell em to suspend your service. They will do it for free.

That is not what he is asking. If you put the phone in airplane mode and have att put an account hold on how would he get sms? I assume what has been posted above would work well for the op.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.
As long as you don't have data roaming checked (it is unchecked by default), you don't need to do anything.
If you have any 2.2 ROM, you should have an option to disable cell data altogether as well either in settings menu or the power button quick list.
But, as I said above, you shouldn't need to do anything unless you turned on data roaming in settings. I've used my Captivate through couple of Asia countries and didn't have any data roaming charges.
I highly recommend APNDroid. It is the best way that I've found to be able to ensure with certainty that the 3G data radio will not be used.

G2x Wifi Only, Save precious battery

I bought an unlocked G2x yesterday. I'm not using any of the Cellular related features. How can i turn them off? (Not airplane mode, that also turns off WiFi)
I also put in a random prepaid phone sim to remove the "Insert SIM" notification
I want this phone to look normal. but use only wifi. Because theres wifi everywhere and I can get free wifi calling.
I don't think it will make any difference in battery life weather data is turned off or the SIM is just not present. I think there are ROMs for the G2x that allow data to be toggled but I'm not sure.
If you're talking about T-Mo's wifi calling then you need an active T-Mo SIM to make it work.

You can disable mobile data from
setting > wireless & network setting > mobile network setting > Data enable
As long as you are within wifi range and connected it should by default disable mobile data.
You can try going to dialer, dial *#*#INFO#*#*
Phone Info
(scroll down)
"turn off radio"
YMMV though

This.
This is the only way to achieve what you are asking, toggling mobile data still leaves the cell radio active. I do not know if wifi calling will work with the radio completely off though. Try it out and report back, I'm interested to know.

I just followed that, wifi is still connected.
But this is what i mean
see "Cell Standby" and a completely different section "WiFi"
Airplane mode does turn off your wifi but try turning wifi back on. Works on cm7 at least...

[Q] Wifi Calling Issues

I am having an issue with wifi calling on a my One S. For background info I am using a completely stock rom, I am rooted and I have only removed non t-mobile related apps like where's my water and movie editor.
My issue is this, I have wifi calling disabled in settings and yet every time I connect to a wifi hotspot whether at home or anywhere else it attempts to use wifi calling. when it does this I lose all cellular signal and can no longer receive/send calls and texts. I have tried factory resetting the phone as well as calling t-mobile. I was on the phone with them for about 2 hours or so last night and still no fix. Just curious as to what I should do to fix this issue or would it be easier to just get an exchange on the phone.
I have also tried setting up wifi calling but at the same time I would prefer to use my phone connection for calls due to irregularity in hotspots i connect to, hence the reason I have it disabled altogether.
Any help is appreciated
Try setting wifi calling to cellular preferred

Yeah that doesnt seem to help either. I am just about to take phone back and try another. I hate not being able to use my phone my WiFi. No matter what setting I use I can't seem to send or receive any calls or texts. The instant my WiFi connects I get a big X on my cell signal indicator.

This problem is stupid but is easy to fix. Whenever you finished using wifi calling feature, the phone's radio is auto-turn off. That why you can't call or send text message. Open dialer pad, type *#*#4636#*#* ==> phone information => turn on radio. I believe this is a bug because i never have this problem before when i used htc sensation, mytouch 4g

Texting app that requires no data/wifi

Like any stock carriers SMS service you don't need mobile data or wifi to send and receive messages, I believe they are sent over the background just by being connected to said carries network. Is there an app or is it feasible to send SMS over the network without charging me? I only get 200 messages/month and I currently use text plus and its a battery sipper. I hate the fact I also need power hungry 4g enabled on my phone just to get my messages. Any help? Thanks

Who is your carrier? Pretty sure you do not need 4G (or any data) to send/retrieve SMS, only MMS.
You can disable your 4G data to save battery power, but you can still get/make calls and send/retrieve SMS. I personally use a data on/off widget that I place on my home screen, which makes it real easy to turn on/off the data to save the battery. I only turn it on when I need to use the internet in some way (or for MMS). It's called Data ON-OFF by Antonio La Rocca. It's free, very simple and works great (widget even looks good and has a few skin options).
Or you can simply go into your settings to disable 4G/3G data manually. Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> and uncheck "Use packet data". This will leave only the basic connection to your carrier for calls and SMS. You will still get a prompt for MMS, but you will need to enable the data to download/view it.
I have yet to see one that provides true free txt, all i have seen require the use of data, so being near a wifi hotspot or enabling your data seems to be the only way to go, would be interesting to know if there is an actual free sms service without the use of data.
I know that I can use att SMS. I'm talking about a 3rd party app

Disable Wi-Fi Calling

I purchased a Global version 1+7P (GM1917) directly from OnePlus. Then I signed up for T-Mobile service.
I am having problems with calls coming in over Wi-Fi. However, in Settings under Wi-Fi & internet, there is no Wi-Fi calling entry, so I cannot find how to turn off Wi-Fi calling.
Is there another method for turning it off? A package I can disable? (I have root.)

I don't have the phone yet but look under mobile network or search in settings. On stock Android pie it's under the mobile network advanced settings

Under Settings -> Wi-Fi & internet -> SIM & network, there is Preferred network type, but that only set 2G/3G/4G. Nothing about Wi-Fi calling. I couldn't find anything called 'Mobile network'.

either install the new onepluslogkit app and *#800# into oneplus logkit/function switch/volte+vowifi switches on
This option will allow you to turn on/off as above. but in sim settings/ Sim1/Enhanced Communications
Or *#*#4636#*#* and turn off provisioning for volte/vowifi.

Tried the OnePlusLogKit, but the *#800# didn't bring up anything.
Tried *#*#4636#*#*, but when I toggled 'WiFi Calling Provisioned', it would "stick" - the Update button produced an error, and it reset on reboot.

That did it! I didn't realize there were more settings under SIM 1. The Wi-Fi Calling under it doesn't show up on searching in Settings. Thanks.
I hope one day wifi calling works with Verizon. The settings are greyed out

What kind of problems are you having with calls over wifi? I plan to use the 7pro on tmobile so I'm just curious

This may all be my misconstruing the problem. After turning off wifi call, I tried calling my wife (which was where I notice the problem), and we still couldn't hear each other. Yet when I call voicemail, I can hear it and I can change my announcement which shows that the phone does work both ways. Therefore, now I'm thinking that wifi calling was not the issue, and the fault is somewhere with t-mobile. The mystery continues.
The mystery deepens. Using Google Hangouts Dialer (which goes over wifi), calling my wife fails (nothing heard either way), but calling voicemail, again, works just fine. I just don't get it.

Thanks for this thread. I knew I saw that somewhere but forgot to check the SIM menu.
Why isn't it in settings search when even dev options are?
Why does TMO lie and way it is in the same spot as most phones, in their article specifically about the OP7p?
My issue in on a WiFi call, sometimes I can't hear them (but they can hear me), sometime from the call start other times mid-call, and turning off WiFi fixes it. I have 1000mb fiber and no other network issues. Too bad it doesn't work. Thanks for helping me disable it.
