Ok, so here's the deal my wife was taking a bath and apparently her RAZR maxx HD decided to join her... In doing so it obviously stopped working, I took out the sdcard, and Sim and put those in the spare s4, and then put the RAZR in the rice bucket. I let it sit for over a week, and this morning hooked it up to the computer to retrieve all of her data from it...
This is where things get weird,
On the phone in the gallery she has around 1000 total pictures between screen shots, and actual photos, along with the various website pictures and what not... However, when I moved over ALL of her folders onto the computer and checked the dcim folder, there are zero items inside the folder. So I opened root browser to move the pictures from the dcim folder to a new one, but they aren't there... I then went back to the gallery where I can still flip through all of the pictures, checked the details and it states that they are stored in the dcim folder, neither the phone, nor computer can see them...
On another note. Trying to share any of the pictures via drive, email, Bluetooth, anything, all fail.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks
Josh

Maybe try a adb pull?
adb pull /storage/sdcard1/DCIM <current working dir>
Of course substitute the right path on the device above.
EDIT: My wife would do something like this too, except she'd do it so she'd get a new phone

Yeah I guess I could give that a shot, I just figured that since I couldn't even see them on the phone through root browser that doing an adb pull wouldn't help.
And my wife actually blamed it on the dog, stating that she, the dog, jumped up and ninja kicked it into the tub

It happens. If I had a quarter for every time my dog ninja kicked something...
Good luck.
Sometimes i get weird isht like that , pc not seeing things in the phone as if the phone is protecting itself and considering the data as "system file" regarless of electing to show hidden files....try and zip couple px and check if the pc sees them...

That happens to me too, usually when the filesystem (int/ext) is updated and you won't see any new data until you unplug and plug back in to the PC but even in such cases, locally, I can see the files from the phone.
Ok guys I figured it out... And I feel pretty stupid. It appears that the phone is "holding" the pictures thumbnails and not the actual pictures themselves. Earlier when I was checking the file paths for the individual pictures I assumed that the sdcard being shown was the internal, I was mistaken it was the external. So I can see the pictures in the gallery but they are only thumbnails... So my wife actually already had all of her pictures on the sdcard.
Thanks for all of the suggestions, hope you all have a good weekend.

I took a few pictures on Friday but now they aren't in my gallery. Anyone else have this issue?
few questions...
are you rooted? if so, which rom are you running?
also, have you used a file manager to browse and see if the files are still on your phone? normally scdard/media/dcim houses picture/video files made with the phone.

Not rooted, just plain old stock for the time being. Haven't searched for them like that yet. I just noticed they had disappeared from my gallery.

Not normal, yes as suggested browse through your gallery thoroughly or use a file manager app like Linda File Manager.
Through the camera app there is a way to view photos youve already taken.
If You can preview them they have to be somewhere within your Inspire
Very strange. They definitely were not in my gallery. I hooked up my phone to my laptop and there they were in the DCIM folder. Now they appear back in my gallery after disconnecting the phone from my laptop. Not exactly sure what was going on there.
Thanks for the help guys.
If it happens again bring the phone back for another one. It could also be the SD card. Try doing a full format on a computer for it and put the files back on.
I have a lot of old redundant data on my SD card. If I have an app installed to SD, when uninstalling it sometimes it leaves the SD data behind. Also, everything on my SD card is as it was on my old desire, I simply put it into my sensation when I upgraded. And I've now rooted and tried various ROMs over the past half a year. So safe to say there's a lot of redundant data on it taking up room.
The thing is, it's not straight forward knowing what's actually used or not, so is there a trick or an app that can help identify which files or data haven't been accessed in ages, suggesting it's redundant?
I use es file explorer, its great because you can look into the folders and see what is actually there . I just cleaned mine out yesterday and found most folders are clearly marked so its not to much of an issue. If there was a folder I did not recognise I looked into contents if I still did not recognise I left it alone. Most folders were easily recognized. Hope this helps

That's just it, I have plenty that I don't recognise, so I'm not sure if they're still needed or not.
Yes I understand you don't want to delete a needed file. For me when I actually opened the folders I was able to see what was inside then took it from there. Hard part for you is finding the old phone files from the new ones. I wish I could be of more help but if your not recognizing the files when opened it makes it really hard. My old application files were clearly labeled so it made my clean out really easy. Perhaps you can find a clue inside to let you know if it was from the old phone or not. Mine was pretty straight forward, I see where yours is much more difficult. Hopefully someone has a better solution for you. I do wish you the best. Sorry I don't have a better answer than looking into the files themself . It worked for me because I was able to recognize my folders. Good luck, I'm sure someone will have a solution.

No problem, thanks anyway.
Most of the folders in the root of the SD card are fairly obvious in most cases. For the ones I'm not sure about I try and Google 'What is (insert folder name)' Android.
The ones in the root will usually be named by the app or publisher name so that helps give a clue.
In the Android/Data folder there will likely be some rubbish. Best thing to do with the folders there is Google them if unsure as they'll usually be named after the APK that they came from.
My SD is fairly clean so I don't have many examples to give unfortunately.
I can't figure out how the phone decides where to place a string of photos taken in burst mode. When I connect my phone to USB and look in the folder where the burst photos are located, there are multiple folders that have already been created. Within those random folders are where my burst photos are located, but in no particular order. This makes it a pain to go through and transfer them all to my PC b/c I'm constantly having to hunt down the photos in random folders.
I hope I'm just being ignorant to how it works, but any help is appreciated.

That seems to be the way it works. From what I can tell, the storage is meant to be temporary...you're supposed to pick the best shot after the burst, then it dumps the rest. I guess if you want them all, you have to do a little hunting.

Not the answer I was looking for, but I'm afraid you're right.

I use dropbox to auto upload my pictures, and it also uploads all the burst pictures in order. Makes it easy to keep all pics or select just the ones I want to keep on the PC.

If they have a common naming convention, then you could hook up your phone to a computer and do a search via filename (or date) then copy the images elsewhere
I'm having issues with quickpic and was wondering if anyone else had the problem or have a solution. The other day I spent a ton of time "excluding" all the files and folders oF my dropbox and other random files. I open up quickpic and bam! They are all showing again. I haven't flashed a new rom or done anything of the sorts. I just don't understand why it keeps doing it to me and its getting annoying :/ help anyone?

Did you try to uninstall and install Quickpic back? I think that should help, however I`ve never had that problem.
Well it stayed the same after I deleted it so lets see in a few days if they stay excluded :/

In stead of excluding folders (sounds very time consuming), just set it to scan certain folders only. It'll be faster, and you do not run by this risk of something showing up by accident. If excluding and you just change a folder name or if a mount point changes, they will show again.
Mine's just watching camera folder, pics, downloads, and movies. Simple, fast, and I'm in control.
An other advice:
In those few "watched" folders, add folders with a .nomedia file inside. Then stick all the sensitive stuff in there. It'll be hidden in your gallery every time you open quickpic, but you can get them to show up with a few buttons press (settings, show hidden)
They will be hidden automatically next time you open quickpic.
Nice if you got sensitive shots of your missus that you wanna keep for your eyes only, or if you got lots of system png's for customising gui, but you don't want them to clutter your gallery..

Yeah I use hidden folders for a lot of my icons and such my phone card is unorganized and stuff so my folders are just confusing xD

Somethings gone wrong on my quickpic and the way it handles dropbox photos.
I used to just have one dropbox folder showing, camera uploads, than last week or started showing loads of other folders from dropbox which I didn't want.
I deleted the cache on both apps and now it won't display anything at all from my dropbox account.
Does anyone know how to get quickpic to show dropbox files again?
Hi.
So Ive backed up my photos for as long as I can remember, I have photos and videos going back 15 years.
I pay google each month for 100 gig of storage, what I normally do is once a month or so i get whatever photos/vids I want to keep and i upload them from my desktop into a named album.
Obviously this takes up storage space
I can see that my Pixel allows me to upload pics and vids without eating into my storage however i'm confused as to how it works.
If i backup and sync my camera folder then arrange it into albums the photos will then be deleted if i delete them off my phone, which means i only actually get 64 gig of cloud storage, that matches my phones folders./
Is there a way i can retain my photos in the cloud but remove them from my phone?
Any help appreciated.

It is supposed to automatically backup the camera folder. In settings, google, backup, photos you should be able to select other folders you want to include.

Ahhh, I thought he was deleting them from the camera folder using an explorer/ file manager app....
Got it chaps, thank you.
I've stitched a few videos together that I shot on the Pixel but edited outside of the phone and then dropped the final video back into the camera app and its still let me upload it which is great.
Thanks for the help
