[Bug]. Wrong stretching in case of playing portrait video - MX Player

Hi,
Recently I've faced with landscape and portrait issue. If I shot a video on my device in portrait mode. MX-Player stratched this video in wrong way. It tries to represent it as landscape.
Actually, it starts playing all portrait video in wrong way. It's very annoying.
Screenshots attached.
- Samsung Galaxy S4 mini
- Android 4.2.2
- MX-Player v. 1.7.33 (ARMv7 NEON)
Could you take a look?

Hi,
Thank you very much! Your advice has solved the problem.
Sorry for screaming, may be this is as designed, just new item in options But I didn't change this options before and it was working.
Does it means that my device works fine with hardware decoder and I don't need that option enabled?
My be it is useful to disable this one by default?
Thanks, again!
P.S. You can edit the title or that thread if it is not a bug.

Disabling "Correct Aspect Ratio" worked for me on my Note 4. As DiffeRT said, this option should be turned off by default. There are a lot of complaints on the Play Store of people having the same problem and they don't know what to do.

I think my post is self explanatory.
From menu goto Settings, then Decoder. Under Hardware Decoder you can find "correct aspect ratio". Just disable it.
If you need manual override, when you play a file, open menu, goto display & open aspect ratio. You can select the commonly used settings as presets there or you can use your own as custom

Apologies, yes I was talking about android system settings. My issue is not personal playback instead my concern is what will happen when someone I send the video to receives it. I work with Realtors and send videos inviting them to events. If I make a 15 sec video and send it via mms it is stretched, just to be a bit more specific. Thanks

There's a new software wich can enhance the camera

In fact I'm not sure it is new, but I tried it and it works with our tabs.
The software name is "lgcamera" and it can replace the stock camera software.
I tried it yesterday and it is possible to record videos in 1024x600 using H.264 codec and MPEG4 format. It's also possible to chose the bitrate for the video and for the audio. The stock camera can only produce 720x480 videos so that's a nice enhancement. There's settings like sharpness that are not available in the stock app. I found the videos look slightly better with this proggy. Try it and come and report what you think.
You can find a free version on the market and it is fully functional.
Tried it and i got a bunch of FC of the app and at one point my tab froze. I removed it. Nice idea but it needs to be worked on.

You're right, but I only got freeze when I tried to select wrong video size with wrong encoder types.
1024x600 using H.264 codec and MPEG4 format work well with no freeze and seems to be a real enhancement over what offer the stock app.
800x600 works well too.
Nice looking program but it crashed on me a minute into recording 1024x600 video. Not worth using if you can't depend on it to record when you really need to.
Working perfect on my latin tab

Get Lag free 1080P (MX Player) Uber Guide ;)

Hello there folks!
My first thread so bear the simplicity I try to keep things minimalistic.
Here we go, I am a total video junkie got this 3TB hard drive full of HD Movies , HD TV series and what not, thing is when am away from my beloved Asus LED or on the move my Canvas 2 can't play the full 1080p properly while 720p runs just fine, so as I have all the content true1080p it was really frustrating.
Now no need to convert or wrestle with time or frame rate, with the following MX Player settings you can load up any content upto 1080p even Bluray source!
First things first you guys need the latest MX Player use Play Store if possible get the pro for no clutter ads.
You need:
MX Player 1.7.19 ARMv7 NEON
(Pro for no Ads rest is same)
Now just go to settings and then decoder set as follow:
0. Don't check H/w+ leave it unchecked
1. Uncheck correct aspect ratio
2. Check S/w decoder local,
3. Set CPU core limit to 2
4. Now the real deal, select 'Color Format' option and set 'YUV' it's experimental but it really does the trick!
(Using RGB 32 bit or 16 bit is more resource hungry and our device can't handle it so the
playback slutters)
5. Leave everything as it is I.e unchecked . Period!
All set now, fire up some eye candy and gaze through.
Tip: Go in settings then player check 'Quit Button' option every time you leave you should quit MX player to get it off the RAM otherwise if you leave by pressing back it lulls in the background.
Check some attachments, all content is full HD there is no single lag, voice drop, audio glitch whatsoever
whole deal is the new 'YUV' color format!
Enjoy ! Mucha gracias

You missed the most important step, set the color format to "YUV' using 32 bits stresses out the CPU its more resource hungry you will find this new color format setting only in the latest version I mentioned latter versions don't have it ..

as u said changing rgb to yuv has no difference in c2 ,mk65xx devices are not basically 1080p video playback supported , only thing it can do is by reducing frame rate by 15. and yuv is a color model for a display device as our canvas 2 is basically 16m colors , and 480p res. dnt need to change to yuv . rgb is good and fine.finally 720p - 30fps / 1080p - 15fps is the default seting for all mk65xx devices .to check for urself google it , u will see all devices supports 1080p video playback in only low FPS

Agreed I am also aware of mt6577 artitecture supporting 720p playback only, but using YUV to render vedios instead of RGB is helpful, RGB format does produce fine quality but is more intense on CPU and expenses RAM to a larger quantity and perhaps, I don't see any noticeable difference in rendering with YUV, On the other hand FPS of vedio can be different depending on the source , give it try though it works for me.

[Q][Resolved] MX player and HEVC/H265 codec

when this app will support a 4K videos?
thanks:laugh:
The app can already play 4K video and HEVC. MX Player uses ffmpeg as a base decoder, so whatever ffmpeg can play, MX can play. Of course, 4K and HEVC support isn't optimal by anyone right now, so don't expect stellar results.
Expect hardware-decode of HEVC/X265

When I play a 1080p vedio of HEVC/X265 movie with mxplayer 1.7.32, the player just only can play it using software decode, and the playing is very slowly.
I try to enable hw/+ mode but it failed to play.
So, expect that hard-decode can implement quickly~~~~
Hardware and/or hardware+ decode is not possible until manufacturers make chipsets that support HEVC. Those won't come for at least another year.
You can find a planned production timetable by Qualcomm here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57336946&postcount=119
Well, I have Qualcomm 801 that should support HEVC decoding (at 1080p), but it doesn't work. MX can't use HW(+) on HEVC videos, and it's not even in the list that I can get using Android API (MediaCodecList).
It seems that even if you have chipset with HEVC support you still may need to wait for manufacturer to get it supported. So player developers can't do anything about it.
Indeed, thank you vivan for the clarification!

perfect... I change the number of core to use, so it finally work with H265 HVEC codec
If didnt work, try in MX player play with settings there, for example what works for me (lenovo tab yoga 3 pro) was: limit CPU core to 8, YUV colours, and use tricks for faster play -> any one from these not set = video playback fail, all of them = absolute superb (even in battery saving mode); so keep trying, the hope is there
I tried everything above mentioned. I have OnePlus 2 and a custom RR 6.0 ROM, version of Android is 8.1. HEVC (×265) lag in mxplayer or any other player in my phone. So please someone give me solution for this. My phone has a SD 810 and SD 810 support HEVC but mxplayer doesn't use HW or HW+ at all it only use SW. [Feature Request] Debanding filter / Custom Shader support

Most of 8-bit encoded anime suffers from banding. Debanding filter is supposed to improve such videos.
About a year ago shader-based debanding was implemented in madVR. I was using it since then and now it's hard to watch video without it With fastest settings ("High preset") it takes about 5ms to process 720p frame on Intel HD 3000, I believe that modern devices are fast enough to handle something similar to it.
Examples of what I'm talking about:

P.s. I've noticed that colors are a bit off, presumably wrong colormatrix (BT.601 instead of BT.709) was used in MX case. I'll check it and will make a proper report in a sepate topic regarding this issue.
This is interesting. I'd like to see where this issues goes, or if @bleu8888 has any comments.

Hmmm, actually adding custom shaders support (instead of specific filters) seems to be a much better idea. That way anyone will be able to write/use any such filter.
It would be possible to port already exisiting shaders too, they're written in hlsl which is similar to glsl that Android supports.
Indeed, I'd like to see this feature implemented as well.
Forgot to mention before, but this has been added to the feature requests list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-running-list-feature-requests-t2718297

If I am not wrong, video processing filters are not possible in either H/W or H/W+ since both use native decoders.
It may be possible in S/W, but will lead to lot of performance related issues. As of now even most modern devices are struggling to play full hd video in S/W decoder without any filters. Adding filters will add further load to cpu. It will lead to freeze or ANR issues.

Well, it might be impossible to copy video texture to the cpu (or what you get from HW decoder), but it should be possible to process them with opengl (just like DXVA on windows - decoded image can't leave gpu*, but you can do some processing there)
OpenGL can be used to render the MediaCodec output to screen. It is also useful to add some video effect when doing playback. The key is SurfaceTexture class.
SurfaceTexture is included in API Level 15 (Android 4.0.3). Developers can use it to stream images to a given OpenGL texture. So, if configuring MediaCodec with SurfaceTexture, the output buffer will be rendered to an OpenGL texture but not to the device screen. Thus, video post-processing is required.

But filters (shaders) run purely on gpu, and currently gpu is doing almost nothing during playback.
(*actually it could, but only with DXVA 2.0).
That's very interesting to hear.

HDR is device dependant. Based on some other reports, looks like s8 automatically adjust the dynamic range when HW decoder is used with a HDR video.

I have some HDR 10 videos and if I play them using samsung video player you can see that HDR is applied (you can see HDR legend) and the colors look wonderful but if I play them using MX player it doesnt matter what option on decoder I pick it doesnt apply HDR and the colors are all wash and not vivid when compare when running samsung video. So i guess MX player is still no compatible with HDR or with S8 either way I hope this will be added in a future release.
Was this ever solved? HDR for HDR capable devices?

This is due to the HDR implementation on the device itself. When you use HW decoder, It just uses media player API implementation on the android itself. If the media player on the device is implemented to handle HDR, you should get HDR effects on HW decoder. It looks like Samsung has implemented the HDR support in their app instead of media player level. Otherwise, both HW & Stock video player effects should be similar.
Our team will further investigate this for the future improvements on the HDR Playback. Thanks for your patience.
