[Q] Stock 5.0 Lollipop broken google play services - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running fully stock factory restored lollipop on my N5 unrooted.
I was trying to setup trusted places but it wasn't listed in my security settings; I looked around and was told up update my Google Play Services.
I downloaded the latest apk from apkmirror.com and installed it like any other apk. This broke it.
Every 2 seconds I get a notification that an app requires an update to google play services. Also any location based actions now fail and loads of settings are missing.
Any ideas?

Because u used the wrong apk.
Try this - http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google.../google-play-services-6-5-87-1599771-446-apk/

Hello
I'm having a problem, I just updates Google Search via the Play Store to the new version 3.1.8. But to my disappointment, it crashes, it crashes immediately I try to open it or when I try to open Voice Search. I tried Clearing all data and reinstalling the app, but it still crashes. Please help.

It's annoying. I thought I was the only one. I sent the crash report to Google. I hope they will respond with an update that fixes the problem, because I really wanna try the new features of Google Now.
Same here stock rooted.

Let me uninstall updates and try updating again.
*Edit: Still no luck, I guess I'll have to wait for a fix from Google.

You lucky then, I updated, and it doesn't work
Having same problem on stock device with no root.
Also noticed that Google+ doesn't work and crashes with the Google Search update. Removing the Google Search update fixes everything. Have submitted crash reports to Google for both defects.
Is there a way to only select the last update prior to Search v3.18 in the Play Store? Going back to the stock Google Search on the GN10.1 is a big step backwards.
Thanks.
apk is the only way

I think there's no option to rollback to prior updates. The only option is to go back to the stock version or Sideload the prior apk....

Understood.
As I've never done this for a Google app, could you tell me where I should search for the apk to sideload?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, having this same problem here... Google Now force closes / crashes on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Android 4.1.2).
For this, I hope Samsung gives my good old tablet a KIT KAT.
New update today, keep crashing at startup

I'm also getting force closes from the new Google Newsstand app too. I went back and side loaded an old version of the Magazines apk, but all this is making me wonder if something changed in the Play Services API and we didn't get updated. Someone above mentioned that G+ wasn't working. Mine is.
NOT WORKING & VERSION
Search 3.18
Newsstand 3.0
G+ and translate are working. The error on search is related to number conversion (its what the error report says).
Still broken with the Dec 3 update. Sigh.

I had the same problem - not rooted, stock Note 10.1. Run KIES and there is a new Note 10.1 firmware update that fixes this problem. After the update from Samsung, Google Search and Google Plus run normally - no more blank black screens.
Also - before I updated the firmware, I tried uninstalling all updates to Search without reinstalling updates and it worked. The Samsung firmware update fixes the problem and allows all Google updates to work.

Thanks for the workaround. I've never used KIES as I didn't want more software on my laptop. Is there another way to update this firmware without using KIES?
As of this week I've noticed that the recent update to Google+ & Google News also crashes.

[Q] My apps don't automatically update anymore

Hi, I'm running 4.4.2 not rooted here. After installing the Amazon App Store and uninstalling it, my Google Play store apps don't automatically update themselves anymore even if I have them set to do so. What can I do to solve the problem?
Thanks.

With default Google Play settings app will update automatically when the phone network connected through wifi
Sent from my Moto G using Tapatalk
I know they should, but they don't. I've even tried bringing the Google Play app to the default version which comes with the Moto G and then re-updating it, but nothing changed. Apps only update if I open the Google Play app. Before they used to update whenever I connected to wifi.
Kinda solved it. I restored my Moto G to stock firmware 4.4.2, because apparently simply restoring factory settings wouldn't do the trick. Oh, well, I have a few apps installed anyway

Just because you install the apk doesn't mean it'll stop it from in the future automatically updating.
Okay, using apk is a different case
In case I want to get it automatically updated
The what should I do???

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi only) Google play store not working

I'm sorry if this is long (or even repeated thread) but I should explain everything so that you guys can know the situation better.
I've tried clearing cache, clearing data and force stopping the play store app. Restarted my tab but the issue continues. I've tried almost all known troubleshooting methods to fix this issue, but no luck so far. I also tried clearing cache and data wipe on Google framework services but that did not help either. Please note m using Play store v4.6.17 if I remember it correct. This didn't work so updated it to the latest version 5.1.11 from Aptoide. This helped a bit. I was able to download one or two apps from it then the same problem continued. I've checked the background data is not restricted, I also did a full factory reset but no luck there either. Note: This same version of play store is installed in my android phone with Jelly bean 4.2 and the play store there works just fine.
Previously, the play store was working just fine but I upgraded my tab to Lollipop through OTA update, which I didn't like at all. So had to downgrade back to Kitkat 4.4.4 using the official stock image from Google developers site with the help of SDK tools. Since then m facing this problem. Any help to solve this issue is much appreciated.
UPDATE: I kept searching the net for a solution and finally got one. I just had to clear the Download manager's cache and data. And for some reason its working again and I'm able to download apps but some for apps m unable to update. For eg. Google play books. Otherwise working fine so far.

Google Pay Issues

I'm having Google Pay issues since I have updated to the lastest update on my UK device. Google Pay app claims the software is modded.
This is unacceptable.
I was also having issues with Snapchat so I logged out but unable to log back in.
I downloaded safety net check and my phone is failing.
My phone is fully stock with locked bootloader and I've only used adb to debloat!
Sounds like your Google Play Store isn't certified
Try clearing the data & cache for Google Play Store & for Google Play, should work, I also had the same issue when I first got my device
:good:
Hi,
same Problem here! After the Rollback from Beta Android 11 (Play Store/ Pay ok) don't work anymore! Play Store not Certified!?!?
Any Solution Guys?

Thanks, but it don't work! ?
This is a beta problem (that's why it's beta). You have to wait for the Android 11 update (even after installing Android 10 again). The only thing you could do is to refresh it now to its original state, how it was before you installed the beta. I think there are beta files, that doesn't erase themselves.

Also same after downloading safety net check.
I've had this a couple of times, more specifically after an OTA, but then it just disappeared randomly and Google Pay worked again.
Google pay update today play store , updated cleared cache data etc still not working phone rma now with shop.
Was really loving this phone but does not bode well that Google pay isent working and no word from oppo.
Sorted mine , as last resort performed factory wipe installed apps again just been in shop tested and happy to report it's working ??
New phone same problems
Has anyone found a solution to this?
I've got a stock Oppo Find X2 Pro yesterday, brand new. Installed and cloned my google accounts across from my old phone. Hadnt set up google pay yet. The update to colour os 7.1 arrived today and then went to set up google pay. Informed the phone is rooted or modified and i can't use google pay... Clearing cache and data, reinstall app doesn't work.
Is this something we just need to wait for oppo to fix?

Have you tried clearing the cache & data for the Play Store & not Google Pay, normally this'll re-certify the Play Store which affects many if not all apps, then you should be able to use Google Pay
I solved removing and adding again the credit cards.
Safety net Test report me "PASSED” now.
What worked for me.
Go to settings security Google play update and check there, I had an update available for Android 10 that I installed, I could then finish setting up my card and it's happily working now.

I had issues with my brand new phone after migrating all the settings from a Google Pixel 3. What fixed it for me was removing all my credit cards and then scanning them in again using the Oppo Find X2.
Fixed seemingly
I've cleared the cache on Play Store and Google Pay and it seems to have fixed the issue for me
