Running stock 2.3.3. Even with call volume maxed out I can barely hear the person on the other end. I have tried with multiple calls to multiple people and get the same thing.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Anyone experienced something similar?

i have that problem, i tend to use speaker more. hopefully a mod comes soon
I'm running CM7 RC1 with Voodoo kernel, not sure if the Voodoo sound patch has any part in this, but the volume on my phone is quite loud when using Skype. But in a noisy environment, I'd rather use a pair of noise blocking earphone or headset.
Yea i can barely hear the other person as well. I dont know if its just in my head but it almost seems like it started after the 2.3.3 update

I've noticed this 2.3.0

During a call turn the volume down and then back up. When you turn it down you won't notice much difference but you will when you turn it up again. It seems that the volume settings thinks it's at max when it isn't and you need to reset it by turning it down.
Hmm ill give that a shot

Could be your service provider too.

Don't think so. The same issue was present with the N1, kernel developers implemented an audio boost feature that really helped this issue out. Hopefully we will see the same for the NS soon enough.
I would LOOOOOVE for an audio boost similar to the N1 to be implemented for the NS.

[Q] volume of the front speakers? Help please
hello all
does anyone know the phonecodes for the nexus s (service mode)? I want to increase the handset (speaker to the ear)!
in the galaxy s, he is **#*#197328640#*# but not work
nexus s CM7 netarchy 1.2.7
sorry for my bad english
does anybody know how to raise the volume of the front speakers?
I'd like to do this also. Default max volume is too low, sometimes hard to hear what people say.
exactly!
It must be possible to increase the volume
with the voodoo kernel only the speakers on the back work
I have the same problems, in call volume is too low :-( and its not the provider because with my Galaxy S the volume is okay.
Phone speaker is quiet but with my bt earpiece I can get it loud enough to hurt my ears.

i don't know about you guys, but i have no problem hearing the call even in busy ( noisy ) streets environments.
using any of the 3 methods:
normal ear speaker
back speaker
BT headset
on 2.3.3 stock, no mods of any kind
temporarily solution:
During call set volume to min and then to max and then it's OK. After reboot problem is back.

this works
Only volume probs I come across 2.3.0-2.3.3 has been the other person's provider (att, Boost, Metro) so far.
I got the phone yesterday... And I'm for the most part happy.... I've been running the phone to the limit trying to test all that it can do.. while testing the Incall performance I had a couple people complain that they needed me to turn my volume up when it was already on max ... Is anyone else having this issue... This is a big deal for me... Also if someone is having this issue do you have a work around?

Probably when he keeps saying "What"?
I get mine on saturday but I hear there is some option for deaf/hard of hearing people that if enabled, helps out alot. I can't verify yet tho

I don't have a Sensation yet, but on my Vibrant I had to turn on HAC mode, which increased the call volume.
Settings > Call Settings > HAC Mode
I'm not talking about my speaker volume.... It's more a microphone volume issue I hear the other person fine

Does anyone have problems with call quality making crackling and popping sounds during phone calls? But when on Bluetooth it doesn't happen. Anyone have the same issue? Or can they shed any light on a solution?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
it's a known issue with wi-fi calling and skype is effected too. shouldn't be happening with mobile calls, however. t-mobile and htc are about to release a patch for wi-fi calling battery drain so there's a hope they'll silently fix the crackling too.

Not so much popping sounds but everyone (without using wifi calling) sounds really buzzy and shaky to me. i have to turn my volume all the way down for it not to hurt my ears. waiting on tmobile to finally send me a replacement but theyre taking forever.
Getting ready to buy
But, used 2 different phones in stores--one at Mall
Wife said the tmobile store one was like a landline call--perfect
And the VERY noisy MALL one had barely discernible backround noise. I heard part of my call when I got home on my answering machine before she picked up. Hardly noticeable.
And the outgoing ringing while calling is crystal clear, unlike my N1 that is choppy.
Hope that helps a little--
Well another problem I have just started having is my WiFi calling dropping and my screen locking up while some one beeps in and I click to answer and what you know I can't hang it up or anything. Anyone else? When do they plan to release a patch?

havent tried wifi calling, but regular calling is perfect for me. no problems there even with a poorer signal

Hi, I also have problems with the call quality (crackling and popping sounds, but not only). I noticed that it is better when I use only 3G, not GSM or Auto(GSM/3G). But Im not 100% sure. I also noticed that it gets worst when I turn on the speaker. I also changed 2 phones with different S/N... same problem. It is not the Operator-Problem because my old HTC Diamond make no problems at the same place... Ill be thankful, if anyone can do the same test with the 3G and GSM-switching. Thanks
Mine only happens when on WiFi

Anyone with the same problems and already tested the method with the 3G?
I received my replacement one s due to call quality issues and the new one is even worse. everyone says i sound like im in a tin can as my voice is SUPER muffled. they can hear when i start and stop talking but the words just arent sharp enough to hear anything. wtf is going on with this phone?
does anyone have any tips for this? i already rooted this new phone so id rather not unroot and relock the bootloader just to get another dud =/

Interesting. I noticed this just the other day. I get the popping noises with Skype and Wifi calling only as well.
GSM calling is unaffected for me.
As for battery drain issues, is that referring to the fact that when you connect to some wifi it will just hang at Wifi Calling "Connecting" and not let you disable it? Because "dat **** cray".
mine is opposite
phone calls are fine, but when on BT it is tinny and some echo--dissappointing, but liveble--
The Wi-Fi call quality is decent on my 1 week old HTC One S. However, the audio quality on Skype is so bad that it's un-usable.
I connected a headphones and I still hear a staticy noise it isn't the speaker so what can it be starting to get to me
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
The static is bad during normal calls is anyone else's like this

I just flashed the LeeDroid 2.0 rom and audio is now perfect for me--so says wife on other end--
Weird
Hi,
I experience the same problem. Sometimes the call quality is very bad with cracking sounds, also when using GSM/3G/UMTS.
But I found out something very interesting. I installed an app for call recording in order to be able to demonstrate how bad the call quality is. I was very surprised when I found out that the call quality is actually much better when I use the app to record the call! Only when I turn down the volume during the call, the quality gets worse again. This is behaviour is reproducable. How weird is this? Of course I don't want to record each phone call just to get better call quality. However, this proves that it is an software issue.
I would like to know if this also works for other people that experience the call quality problem. Anyone willing to try out? The app is "Call Recorder" from "Appstar Solutions". I am using version 3.14. The app is free.
Cheers!
Hey all. Normally I use a Bluetooth headset for all my calls, but occasionally I don't have it on me. When I take a call using the phone's regular speaker I can barely hear the person on the other end. If I have any background noise, it's impossible to hear them. I've got my sound turned up to max. Anyone have some suggestions?

Since 4.4.2 both speakers on mine get incredibly loud. The N5's earpiece speaker is small (small circle rather than a long slit) so you do need to play with it some to get it set properly on your ear. Call someone and talk to them (indoors and quiet preferably) and adjust the phone on your ear till you hear it best. That's the position you'll need to use. I got used to it quickly and use about 40% volume even while in car at highway speeds and it is loud enough for me. Maybe clean your ears with a q-tip?:laugh:jk
See if that helps, if not maybe something is going on with your earpiece speaker?

Hard to troubleshoot when you're running custom software (rom +kernel +old radio). If to really want to get to the bottom of it (imo) you should go back to stock 4.4.2 with NO mods and see if it does it. Otherwise you're just shooting blanks (again imo). Anyone in the PA/faux/radio thread experiencing similar?

trickster mod
Install trickstermod kernel settings app and go to kernel settings, see if you can increase the gain for the speaker. If there isn't an option, you need to change kernel to one that allows sound tweaking (elementalx does) and then boost the gain through trickstermod app, or another free kernel settings app of your choosing. Changing the gain is a kernel setting that gives a very good boost to sound levels.
Figured it out. My screen protector had a cut out for the speaker, but I never popped it out. Took it off and I can actually see the speaker now!

Hi all,
I am facing a severe problem of call sound not coming from both side...
I am not able to hear ring sound and callers sound while calling someone.
Its coming only on outgoing calls.
I had replacement 2 times from Flipkart for this issue. But still its persist in all device. Have to restart my phone each time to resolve this.
I am fed up by restarting my device 8-10 times a day..
Any resolution any one found.?
I had a big discussion on Motorola official forum. But useless...
