[Q] Google Play Store WiFi download super-duper slow - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I just done resetting my OPO to everything stock 44S, but when I tried downloading and install back my apps, it was ridiculously slow while downloading the apps. I checked my net is performing perfectly at 20Mbps, but Playstore download apps at 50-100Kbps I was like WTF??? I tried change DNS doesn't work either, but on mobile data is super fast, just like normal just WiFi. I tried my second phone WiFi also slow like hell but watch youtube etc is smooth. Is it possible Google side problem or my ISP problem?

If everything else works fine I would guess it's a Google problem. Or the routing to your place isn't that good? Are you using a VPN?

I was thinking the same thing. I got my OPO last Friday and I've been flashing roms all weekend. I also noticed that the Play Store download speed was ridiculously slow on wifi and LTE. I have AT&T and I also flashed Ark kernel. After about 2-3 hours, no matter what rom I was on, the Play Store apps sped up. I thought my issue had something to do with me going from 11S to 11 to 12 all weekend. (I had to find what worked for me) But it seems that irrespective of the kernel, cm version, and gapps I was using, the dl speed just popped back in gear after time.
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance but my only solution was time. How long have you let your phone idle?

I think idle time doesn't matter, okay.... I tried with my friend's phone, it's also same, very very slow download speed, so must be Google side...

Like what others have said. If you had another device and play store downloads was also slow. Your home isp probably bad poor routing to the servers causing it to lag.
Some other tips. Disable wifi optimization if you haven't. Toggle wifi on and off and then try a download again. Restart your modem and router.

You can test the speed with a normal dl from a fast Server, bunt i think it was a Google Problem

I just did some updates to my apps
Some apps download at 1.5MB/s others at 300KB/s lol it's a Google issue I'm concluding

[Q] Why is my phone using 3MB of bandwidth while idle?

So, I realized that my SABnzbd downloads had slowed down substantially, and when I looked into the reason, it seems my phone is using about 3MB of bandwidth while sitting and doing nothing.
I uninstalled a few apps I thought might be responsible, and restarted the phone. I've not touched it since it booted up, and my router shows me that I'm currently using 375KB/s on this phone.
I have no idea what could be doing this, but it seriously concerns me.
I'm running Purity ROM, and will soon factory reset and try a different ROM, but thought I would ask about this before I do anything else.
Ideas/thoughts?
Go into WiFi advanced settings and turn off scanning. You could also turn WiFi off when screen is off. I just turned off scanning. PS it helps save power while idle

Even if the phone wifi is 'scanning' for a signal (it's actually connected, so it's not scanning for anything), it should not be actively downloading at almost 375 KB/s. It should not be downloading anything.
What else could it be?

Is it a one time event or does it continues all the time? If it's a one file event it's probably simmering syncing.

Whenever the phone is on, for the last few days. I suspect it's an app causing it, but I can't find any indication of which one. I think I'm going to wipe and install fresh, and probably try another ROM for a while. I'll install apps one at a time until/if the situation happens again.
There are apps to check data usage of each app. Can't name one. Never needed them. I always just accepted its the NSA and I try to stay away from my phone while in ze nude, as our German friends would put it.

That's what I'd do to. But I'm a little paranoid when stuff like that happens
Install this to find out what app is causing it. I'm betting one of the google apps. Play services loves to use data for no reason.

Thanks. That's telling me "Downloads" has used 66MB since being installed 4 minutes ago.
I'm not intentionally downloading anything, and when I checked the Play store, it doesn't seem to be downloading anything either. When I checked the downloads folder, there is one jpg (623KB) and the Amazon app store apk (4.99MB), and both have been there for weeks.
There is nothing else in this folder, nor any other indication of what is causing "Downloads" to be downloading. In the 2 minutes it's taken to write this, the amount has risen to 124MB, which is 98.1% of what's been dowloaded.
Very weird to me.
So the app is using DL's. DL's doesn't do anything by itself that I've ever seen. Try force stopping it then freezing it. That might make the app show up that's causing the issue. Might being the key word here. Weird indeed.

Google Pixel WiFi Problem (Fails to download videos, apps, etc. and goes offline)

Hi,
Wondering if anyone has run into the following issue with their Pixel. My phone is an international model (G-2PW4200) and I bought it exactly a month ago.
The issue is this: I seem to never be able to download any decent size file (e.g. a video on social media sites or apps like Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, etc., or to download any app on the Google Play store) via WiFi without the download getting "stuck" half way, sometimes not even at 10%. The download would get stuck indefinitely, and only resume once I disable WiFi and start downloading via LTE. Sometimes it also comes back if I just disable WiFi and enable it again. Another problem I have is that my phone seems to go offline when it's not being used for extended periods of time (that being in the 5-10 minute range given I look at it almost every 10 minutes) despite having WiFi during sleep set to be always on. I can tell this because when I try to log in to something like Whatsapp Web it complains that my phone is offline, and this is a problem that never happened with me with my previous phone in the same setting.
A few points to keep in mind:
1- I have "Keep WiFi on during Sleep" set to "Always"
2- This happens everywhere (at home, work, friends', public WiFi, etc.) so it's not related to just my router's setup, and it happens every single day and almost every single time.
4- System is "up to date" and I have the latest update installed (Android 7.1.1, build NOF26V)
3- I'm still able to browse web pages (via Chrome), and browse apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc. without getting interruptions or showing any signs of disconnect. It's only the above two issues that I see when downloading big chunks of data, and for some reason my phone appearing to be offline during sleep when it shouldn't be.
Any idea what may be wrong here and how I can fix this? I really would like to keep this phone, but this is really becoming frustrating.
Thanks.

Yes. And ironically enough I ran into the same problem immediately while restoring my backup as the phone was trying to redownload the previously installed apps. It would get stuck not downloading anything but not complain about a lost connection until I disable WiFi and switch to cellular data.
This reminded me that the first time I ran into the problem was also the very first time I used the phone when also downloading my apps.

can you test your wifi performance with another device?
and also try some download manager like ADM and check download with it.

Given that this happens everywhere, not just with my home WiFi, I know the issue is specific to my Pixel. Unfortunately no one at work has a Pixel to try it, but all other devices connected to the same WiFi spots are fine.
I was told by someone that disabling LTE and sticking to 3G cellular data will fix my WiFi issues. Will be trying that at work today.

Extremely slow play store updates, anyone else experiencing?

Anyone else having this issue where the Play Store will update apps extremely slow? I've had many, many android phones and this is the first time I've had this issue with any of them (5T included).
Now, both times it has been linked to me doing something. The first time it was me detaching youtube vanced from the playstore. It caused updates to either install slowly, or not at all. I at least understood this as unhooking that tripped something in the play store....it made sense.
This second time was after installing the official twrp (coming from unofficial) and restoring a nandroid. Now the installs are happening, they're just much, much slower. Before an update would start and immediately after it was finished downloading the install would start. Now it is taking 30 seconds to a couple minutes PER APP after the download is finished for install to start. Once it says "installing" things take a normal amount of time. Since this doesn't appear to be linked to the play store in any way, now I'm completely out of reasons as to why it would be doing this.
I'm really losing my mind here. The first one I had to use the MSM tool to fix, clearing cache, uninstalling/reinstalling play store did nothing. I'd really rather not have to do this again, but I also can't have it taking half an hour to update 13 apps (normally this would be done in 5 or so minutes, I'd estimate).
I had this too. I tried various solutions but the only one that actually worked for me was deleting my google account, rebooting and the setting up my google account again.
Go to apps and try clearing data and cache for the play store and play services.
For me it's a network issue with Oneplus 6. Google play think that you are not connected to WiFi.
Try to disable Wifi and enable it again the download will instantly start.
I update to 5.1.6 and enable smart network switch. I hope it will fix the issue.
Is it just a slow network issue? My OP6 is extremely fast on LTE and WiFi.

In my case no.
Download is not starting because google play doesn't consider WiFi enabled.

Unistall update for Google play. It works forum me.

Wifi download's speed using Google services like backup and play store is slow

Hi. Thanks for this guide. I was able to install Android 9 though VPN. I was having a problem with background apps even with adaptative battery off. I solved it by entering at the list of apps/procces and disable the optimization on them. Everything now is ok except WiFi download speed using Google services. Download's speed in Google play store is 0.1 mb/a when normally is 6 mbps on android oreo(previous version). When I turn off the Phone and then i turn on, WhatsApp starts to do a security backup at its normal speed but after a few seconds the download speed is 0.1 mbps. But the strange thing is that on 4g mobile data it downloads normally. I don't know what to do. I cleared the caché and data from Google services and nothing. Is this a bug or something? My Phone is not rooted and the bootloader is locked.
Edit: I reset my phone to default settings. It still has Android 9. The first time did not make difference. The second time the download speed was back to normal but after an hour after the reset it went back to 0.1 mb/s.
Edit: If i turn on airplane mode the download speed is at full speed. Can someone explain me why is this happening pls? Thanks.
EDIT: Solved by turning off location: settings->security and location->location-> turn off by sliding the slider. I don't know if this options have these name. I have my phone in another language. I will update my post. This solution is not a real solution since you turn off location and some apps need it.
It's happening to me too. Will wait for update (on the post or SW).
Here it's happening only on 2.4Ghz network, using 5Ghz it's normal speed... Other devices are working fine on the same 2.4 hotspot, so definitely a bug.

Found out that if you disable locations services (bt also helps) the download speeds goes back to "normal".

WIFI connection disconectting automically while playing pubg mobile.

** Need Help **
I'm using Phoenix OS for playing PUBG Mobile. But sometimes while playing the WIFI connection of phoenix os automatically gets disconnected. Then I have to reconnect it again. It's really disturbing -_- .
My router is fully okay. Cause I don't face this issue on my other OS. I don't know if this problem has any relation with my L speed installation.

You can try without LNET tweaks, maybe something make a problem.

My wifi is restarting after 3 seconds connected to a network. It started to happen today. I installed the "L Speed" app from Magisk yesterday. Any idea of how to solve this? I don't want to format everything because of my WearOS.

Well after all, run your OS for a while and let it disconnect 5-10times. Get the logcat then and attach here.

Hey there, i know this is a bit off but im here for almost the same problem. So i am using oneplus 3 android pie and i have only installed l speed recently. So before i installed this app my connection was stable but after i install this app i noticed instability in my connection. The following situation are some example :
1.When viewing whatsapp status it used to only take a few minutes before im able to see the status but after install it i need to wait for a long time. this shows that my phones connection are not focusing on whatsapp because when i try to download anything, the download will take a few seconds then the download will start downloading with a bit faster speed than usual so i know that my wifi is not the problem but its a problem with my phone.
2.Pubg mobile connection became really unstable because when i open the game to main screen it constantly says that server is not responding or rewuest timed out but at the same time when i download resources in the game it download as usual( i can see at my status bar on my phone the internet speed)this leads me to conclude that the L speed does make my phone download speed a bit better but in the cost of stabilty its making my phone connection not stable. I think that the tweak made my phone focus the internet on downloading the resources for the pubg but it made my phone not giving any internet or maybe if it give, only a little internet to the app itself to load the main screen.
For your jnformation, after i realised this problem, i reverted all the setting in the app then uninstalled the app and reboot but the connection instability still occurs so i think maybe there are some adjusment made by the app but not reverted back in my system. Oh and one more, i tried looking for the init.d folder incase i need to delete scripts but i can only see init folder and the init.d folder is no where to be found. And onemore for your info, when i installed the L speed i used the balance profile and in the LNET section, i only turned on the RIL tweak, tcp and also net speed+ and for the net buffer i occasionally change it between small, big and default.I hope somebody can help me resolve this problem. My only hope is that my internet connection on my OP3 returns tu its original state.
