Help creating Update.zip to fix bricked XT925 - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My XT925 on Fido somehow soft bricked and all I see on the screen is "encryption unsuccessful". The phone is stock recovery and Jellybean right now and I have tried all the resets possible. Fastboot doesn't seem to work and stops after 2/20 steps. I have tried editing the XML file to no avail. Can someone help me figure out how to create an update.zip and flash through the stock recovery? It looks like it can detect the SD card in stock recovery. I would like to go straight to the kit Kat release that just came out. Thanks in advance.

Currently you will not be able to go to KK directly. You will likely need to use RSD Light to go back to 4.1.2 but will need to remove 3-4 lines from the XML before it will flash. It's been covered lots here - just do some reading.

I've tried removing many lines mentioned in other posts but the flash keeps failing after 2-3 steps. Are the lines you are referring to the gpt and getvars lines?

Can you provide more information about what RSDLite says and what lines from the XML you removed?

Stock rom for clockwork recovery?

Hey yall,
Quick synopsis I bricked this phone in about December or January and now my other phone broke so I'm going to try and get this one fixed. It automatically boots to the fastboot screen, everytime it powers on. Even after running out of battery, thats where its stuck at when it powers back on. I don't know how to move between stock recovery menus with the phone buttons... but thats another issue.
I see a lot of posts and files for TWRP when unbricking a phone but they dont seem to be compatible with CWM which I prefer. Is TWRP better? Is it easier to unbrick a phone using TWRP with fastboot?
If it will boot into fastoot can the Sprint store unbrick it with their repair service? I really dont have the time to buckle down and do this. I wish there was a sticky or handy guide for unbricking this phone.
One of the first things I have to do is unlock it from Motorola while it is bricked somehow in the debug menus. Not looking forward to all this.
Any pointers or file / thread links to assist will be greatly appreciated.
EDIT - Can someone move this to the right section, sorry I always do this on accident. TOTAL noob
You can use rsdlite and the stock files from this thread

Thanks for the reply. I tried using RSD Lite last night and right after starting the flash I got an error message that something failed. Will the flash automatically fail if the device has a low battery? My fastboot was showing low battery at the time of flash. Also maybe it failed becuase I had the wrong version? Do we need to use a specific version or will any version work? Thanks in advance.
Did you edit the xml file you have to remove some lines
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2
Ive deleted the 2 XML lines about "getvar". It all may have been due to low battery. But unbricking with RSD lite seems way too easy. You just boot into fastboot, turn on RSD lite, flash the firmware, and thats it? 3 easy steps? Fixing to give it another shot here in about an hour.
Hey yall it must have been the low battery that failed it. I cant believe how easy it is to unbrick with RSD lite. Why can't we flash custom roms with RSD lite?
We can, but why bother with custom interfaces when it's not needed?
I mean can we flash somethimg like CM using RSD lite?
No, I didn't make the image for RSD lite (and won't be making it). Aftermarket firmwares are flashed from recovery, not via RSD lite ( = fastboot).

You must have installed the cm10.1 using kexec kernel... So which is your phone version???...there's at&t ,Asia retail ...depending on that you have to flash the correct firmware ...or you will brick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934874
This is the firmware thread... You have probably downloaded the wrong firmware...or you may have not flashed it correctly... Just try again...This is how to flash...

Make sure your drivers are updated ...and you have RSD lite 5.6 or higher... you should be fine..

So if I remember right, you shouldn't need to load the bootstrap over a custom rom because you will get a boot loop. Which it sounds like you might have. If that's the case it might be easier to fxz back to stock and retry with out the bootstrap.

Am I most certainly hard bricked?

1) Was on stock 4.04 ICS
2) Rooted the phone
3) Installed Bootstrap recovery
4) SOFTBRICKED by trying to install a Kitkat based rom (Liquid kitkat ) using recovery.
5) So apparently Liquid Kitkat rom was installed..........and was SOFT BRICKED
Got Motorola logo then blank screen
6) RSDLITE failed to flash FXZ Gingerbread InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.16_cfc_p3_APBP_CID285.zip
This part failed on the reboot (I understand now this was a no no)
QUESTION: Would FXZ 4.04 ICS have been fine for fixing this with RSDLITE?
........ Now nothing will come up...will not turn on.........
no button routines will turn this on.......
the only light that will turn on is the white let when the battery is removed and plugged into pc.
So is this pretty much hard bricked without a way to DIY fix it?
Thanks.
Try the following link to recover your device
Hi,
Refer this link by which you can get your device back to working....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36834775&postcount=108
It needs FXZ file to be flashed to ics again. Then root and enjoy custom roms.....
As per my very little knowledge it is safe to use boot menu manager (BBM) then Atrix Boot strap.....
Please let me know if the above think works for you... It worked for me .....

Won't work. ...... my problem is the phone won't turn on.......cannot currently enter fastboot or any boot option..........hence possibly "hard-bricked".
Thanks anyways.

By the name of the FXZ file, it seems you have an AT&T Atrix 2. Sorry to say, but your phone's hard bricked by downgrading it to GB from ICS.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't I effectively try to go from Softbricked "Liquid Kit-Kat " to Gingerbread?
Since I installled Liquid Kitkat CM11-based.......(which softbricked me after trying to boot that )................would the ICS version of FXZ worked properly?
In other words, did I need to use a kit-kat based FXZ to recover from softbrick with RSDLITE?..........or just ICS?
Thanks

There's no official Jelly Bean for our device, let alone KitKat and hence none of the respective FXZs. So, yes, you should have flashed ICS FXZ in order to recover from the soft-brick.

Have you tried the method in the link given.....?? Even my phone was not booting at all... When I switch on there was no changes seen on the screen.... But it was getting recognized in PC as USB device connected.... I was able to run the bat file mentioned in the link and to my surprise it was recovered..... By the way how you concluded that it is a hard brik....

You might be having International version of Atrix 2 or you might be on ICS Leak or GB, and hence you could recover your phone.
Downgrading an AT&T Atrix 2 from ICS to GB is 100% hard brick. Read around and you will get information on more such cases.
You had 2 mistakes:
1/ Use Bootstrap recovery instead of BMM to flash kexec ROMs
2/ Flash GB instead of ICS when the phone (AT&T) has already been on ICS (deadly mistake)
Hi. hard brickIn this way the device is to survive
Issue Solved??
Did your problem solved? If not you could give it a try the method I told you..... Mine is an international version... I downloaded FXZ for retail asian.... My phone was not at all showing anything when I click power button..... So if you tried all options you can give it a try...

Build.prop

OK, guys/gals,
I was stupid last night and changed my build.prop file to build.prop.bak, before I replaced the .bak file with my updated one my phone rebooted. Obviously now when I boot the phone it goes to a black screen and I can't do anything with it. I can get into stock recovery and tried a factory reset, but that didn't do anything except erase my data. I tried doing fastboot but every time I try to re-write my system partition it fails. I can do every other partition just not system. I tried reflashing the OTA kitkat with adb but again it can't fins the build.prop file.
So my question is am I screwed or is there a fix that I'm missing?
Thank for any help
BTW... this is for my RAZR HD maxx, not on the razr I am sending this from.

Since you already wiped data, you might as well just do a full FXD install with Kit Kat, if you weren't on it. You might be flashing the incorrect image and that could be causing the issue with system.
If you weren't on Kit Kat, you might as well just go full Kit Kat since you can root it and unlock the bootloader (if you aren't unlocked).
Other possible reasons why it's failing are as follows:
Bad USB cable - If you have the original cable, try it. Otherwise, swap out cables and try again.
Drivers are out-of-date. Update your drivers.
Are you using a USB 2.0 port? Don't be hooked up to USB 3.0.
Windows 8 has been known to cause issues, so if that's what you are on, you might want to try Windows 7 or earlier. If on Mac, I can't help you there as I'm not familiar with Mac.
I concur. Use my RSD Script Generator to generate scripts for the 183 KK FXZ, flash with KEEP DATA, root with towel root, unlock with motoapocalypse. Then you can downgrade back to JB (if desired) by generating scripts for 9.30.1 FXZ, and flashing the UNIVERSAL script. Done with unlocked.
I was on kitkat rooted. I did try the FULL.XML file from samurai, however red doesn't recognize my phone. I used fastboot through command prompt to flash everything except system partition. It won't let me flash, format it.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I am using windows 7 on usb 2 with 2 different factory razr hd cables, with samurai's info from another forum.

System is a LARGE partition so it sounds like a cable/port/driver issue if it's failing to send it properly. I assume you're using motofastboot.exe?

No. I am not. That's probably dummy move #2 I was using fastboot from the sdk... when I get home I'll try motofastboot.
Thanks

Oh yea you have to use motofastboot else system will indeed fail. That should fix you up. Sweet.
Success!!
Thanks SamuriHl, I have been a follower of yours since the Bionic, and House of Bionic. I am not a noob by any means however, every so often I need a little reminding. Thanks for putting me in the right direction. The Phone is fully functional again.
Josh
You're very welcome. If it's not unlocked, do so now.

What version of software were you on before this ics? if so that should be the right file unless you have a bad copy.. Badwolf has a link to a website that has all the files you would need. Its floating around here i will find it and give it to you.. Also what error are you getting when you flash? An you have to be in AP fastboot mode to flash just to confirm you know that.. hope this helps.
