Hello XDA,
Thanks for this XDA Assist, all these threads can be overwhelming at first!
I am looking for a way to:
1) root my HTC Desire HD.
2) Upgrade the OS (it is currently Android 2.3.5) to ????? (see 3)
3) I am also looking for advice which OS will run smoothly on my HTC Desire HD.
Thank you very much.
Everything you need is in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168500
One thing to keep in mind is that when you are successful and get a recovery, before you flash a rom make a backup of stock and copy it somewhere safe. You will not be able to return your device to stock if you do not.
Good luck to ya!

Hi All,
I have been surfing a lot over rooting my phone. Still looking to chose the best method. The most prominent being of 'em all - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035. In this method, I got stuck with not getting the correct version of unRevoked. Ths method is bit lengthier too
Recently, found HTC Unlock Bootloader. wanted to know whthr doin that method is worth it. Have anyone rooted using this method? (as there is no s-offing in this method)
1. install stock RUU and unlock the phone as told in HTC Dev.
2. Install CWM and put your custom ROM.
Any suggestions/helps on this will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Success htc Dev!
Hi, just to let you know I successfully rooted my Wildfire S (originally S-ON) using the htc dev route.
Here is a great vid showing the htc dev steps:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqCk2NiHTTg
I got stuck at the ruu part at the beginning. My version number was higher than the one required by the website/ruu. Many posts say just use the one for your region anyway however this resulted in a message saying I needed to upgrade my version to the lower version. I found a post that just said skip the ruu part and move onto the next step. Did this and success!
I then went on to install cyanogenmod 7.2 port (unofficial version as cyanogenmod 7 not available direct from cyanogenmod as far as I can tell).
This video shows how to do it and has 2 links to the cyanogenmod 7 .zip file and the google aps .zip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu--CpBM5SM
I would suggest choosing the cyanogenmod download from here instead as this is direct form the (unofficial) developer of the port:

Hi sorry just notticed you have a Wildfire not Wildfire S. Think the htc dev method is identical, but you are in luck if you want CM7 as the wildfire is supported directly by them, just google Cyanogenmod and it has a full guid on there on how to install post unlocking
Hello,
I haven't flashed since my first smart phone (HTC WING).. now Sensation 4g. So what I have done so far after much research:
S-off
CWM installed
Backup of stock made (and used..)
No firmware update (probable issue)
I have read and im inferring from the posts that since im on Gingerbread I need to do a firmware update to ICS. I would like to know however to use the AOKP Jelly Bean ROM is there yet another Firmware update I will need to install or is it not necessary at all.
I am assuming its firmware most likely but id rather not assume.
I get stuck at the splash screen advises me to pick a language and reboots constantly.
Thanks in advance.
Just bumping to ensure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

I just purchased a shiny new ST26i Xperia J because I do not have the cash money to splurge. I spent a decent amount of time perusing the threads in the General section and this one as well. I see some people have worked on still incomplete ports of ClockworkMod and the TeamWin recovery systems. Without those, how would one flash a different ROM onto this device? I see a few people have attempted it, but the details are unclear as to how they got that far.
I have unlocked the bootloader and successfully exploited and tested the root on my default firmware (110.2.A.0.21), but no idea where to go from here. Apologies in advanced, I am used to that Samsung bull**** with flash recovery partitions and such, but there garbage open-source stance and their non-commitment to the community made me, even with the little dough I have, put my money on the Xperia guys who have been much more open.
Yup you will soon get cwm and twrp for your phone
Xperia is more open source than samaung

Dude...to install a rom,you must need a recovery.. It's mandatory
There are cwm recovery available for your device for sure..without cwm or twrp you wouldn't be able to install a Rom
But you can flash zip mods with an application
If you are looking for a stable recovery, I think you will have to wait..
To be precise... You don't have any other options to install roms, other than by recovery..
Although I don't own a J...
Thank You...
thank me if I helped you...Don't say it,hit the button...
I own a SXJ You can flash a ROM in SXJ after flashing CWM So, first of all you have to flash CWM .img file and then flash your ROM.zip and then again go for the stock or vengeance kernel! Best luck
Thank me if i helped!

No.
This is xperia miro/tipo/j/e forum, go to htc one forum and post your problems there.
And besides, last post in this thread is from before almost half a year.
I'm curious about updating to CM11 M12. Is it as easy as just downloading then installing from settings? Will I have to update Gapps or anything? Will I lose data from this?
Thanks
Hi,
You would need to follow whatever the instructions are for the rom basically. Without knowing your device, I have no where to point you.
But follow what the instructions are. Yes, you will likely need gapps that match the Android version of the rom. And I'm not sure what you mean by update from settings.
The best advice I can give you is to register on XDA and ask for any help you may need in your devices Q&A section.
Good luck!

Oh, and data. It's likely best to clean flash the new rom, as it's a big step up. You can backup your apps and their data with titanium backup.
And always do a nandroid backup from recovery before you do anything.... In case you have issues and need to restore. ?
Thank you. Thread closed.
Sorry to post this again somebody did reply but for some reason i cannot find their response! Im at my wits end so i'll post again and hopefully somebody will be able to help. I rooted my lg g3 and installed chupa chups 5.0 rom. I then tried to change the bootloader animation and consequently all root apps stopped working. Then went into super su and it wouldnt let me update the binary and says there is no root access. I now have no twrp recovery either. Phone software settings still saying im running chupa chups 5.0 and phone is working fine albeit without rooted apps. I really dont know what my options are so im hoping somebody on xda will be able to point me in the right direction as i dont want to end up bricking my new phone!
Hi,
Your device section is here....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681793
You can ask for help in the Q&A section. Also, if you read through the stickied threads at the top of the general and Q&A sections, most "how to's", guides and info threads will be there.
If you have an issue specific to a rom you flash, Asking in the rom thread is the best option.
Good luck!
?

Oh, depending on what carrier or model number you have, there could be a specific section for that too. But you didn't say.
