Problems with earphones' buttons - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all guys,
I'm on stock cm11s Rom latest version and all of a sudden my earphones' buttons started to act strange.
I am using the ones that came with my old Samsung s4 and basically what happens is that the main button gets recognized as vol up instead of pause/play.
I'm sure it's not hardware related as the same earphones of a friend of mine do exactly the same thing. What is strange is that they used to work perfectly until a couple of days ago.
Any clue? Thanks!

Was there ever a solution for this?
The button response is really weird on the OPO. I have exact same problem as you. Trying to find a headset whose buttons will work properly. Don't why it has to be like this. I am ordering the JBL ones from OnePlus. Those HAVE to work properly, right? Fingers crossed.
I guess best bet is the "single button" earphones. I am trying to use a "headset controller" app to see if that helps.
Regards
Ken

Try going into your camera and taking a picture. Don't ask me why, but for some reason this works. And it worked for me.
I'm in the same boat. Any suggestions?
I am on 1.12.30 and I now have the same issue.

I also had this issue I don't have a solution but if you do manage to get the screen up by some means I would suggest remapping the power button to one of the volume keys at least temporarily if you're rooted. You can either do it manually with root explorer or this app- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464 This has worked fine for me on every rom up until ICS.

haha that's exactly what I said when I first read it. but I wasn't joking - it actually works haha. glad it helped!
Same thing happened to me after I moved to Miui 1.12.23. Ive done lots of searching and everyone just says its a broken button. I find it awfully coincidental. I have since moved to cm7 nightly 181 (i think). And the problem carried over. Not sure a fix. CM has a feature to have the vol buttons wake the screen which has been great. I am still able to use the power button in recovery so I dont know what the deal is or the fix....
the camera thing worked but only temp.

HOX speaker volume gets very low until reboot

I've not seen anyone here mention this, but it's being discussed on other Android forums. Thought I'd post here on XDA in hopes that some of the more technical members of this forum might have some input or ideas.
I noticed one day recently that the Google Navigation voice was so low I couldn't hear the directions over the sound of my car's A/C, which I know had not been the case before. All volumes were at max. This continued for the rest of the day, and all ringtones and notification sounds were very low. IT was so dramatic, I just assumed the speaker went bad, and I was going to have to make an insurance claim over a defective phone.
I happened to reboot the phone that evening and instantly the speaker volume was 3-4x as loud as earlier that day. I thought it was a one-time thing, but now realize that this happens 3-4 times a week. I'll notice I can't hear any of the notification sounds very well, reboot the phone, and all is well.
Except, this is a pain in the @ss to have to reboot constantly!
Has anyone experienced this? I thought I would recognize a pattern, like some app I use regularly or something, but nothing seems to make sense... seems very arbitrary, but aggravating nonetheless.
As I said, this is being talked about on a lot of the other HOX forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned specifically here. I almost want to say it started after the AT&T update last month, because I never noticed it before that. I'm on stock AT&T HOX, not rooted, and only a handful of the 'regular' popular apps. I don't even have music on the phone, nor have I ever used earbuds with it.
Very frustrating!
I have had the exact same thing happen, no clue why though.
I started a thread awhile back. Mine does the sane as well.. pissed..hope its software issue

Same here, I'm leaning towards it being a software issue due to a reboot always fixing it.
What ROM are you on?Custom or Stock?Any mods done to the phone?I had the same issue with the phone volume being to low on a custom rom, until I went into recovery to wipe cache/dalvick and everything was good/loud again.

I can vouch for this solution. I had the same issues on my HOX when I installed a custom ROM.
In the "Special Notes" section of the CleanROM v4.1 notes, it states:
Volume may be quite. If so wipe cache's and reflash the ROM. Volume should be loud again.

Hopefully it's as simple of a fix as this!!
I'm completely stock, no custom ROMs, not rooted.
I have the same problem, stock and rooted. I recently started noticing it. It didn't always happen to me.
I do use Tasker to put my media volume all the way down once i exit my car. Then I use Elixr 2 to put all my volumes to high once I use my "home" profile. I think it might be cause of that. Since I've stopped using exlir to raise the volume, I haven't noticed the issue. But I have restarted my phone every 2 days recently for another issue so it is possible that I am fixing it each time before the symptoms start to occur

Has anyone found a permanent solution to this? It's my only gripe. I have tried two sense roms. I love HTC camera so I don't want asop. Volume plus doesn't help when volume drops off.

I can't detect any difference and if there is it is too small to detect. I tried to amplify the sound with Volume+ and there is no detectable difference. But if I use the speaker for a call, at maximum volume, it is really really loud so the speaker is definitely capable of more. But with Satnav GPS apps, at default settings, between the One X and my old Galaxy S2, there is a night and day difference
I too had these issues on replacement phone I got from att but it resolved automatically after few days
From beast called HTC One X
this problem causes due to an App, in my case previous version of Viber App caused all this issues....
hope you solve this prob

Volume Up Unresponsive

I know there are tons of complaints about the Inspire/Desire's volume rocker, but through all my searching I've only found a couple of people with my problem, and no solutions.
When I press my volume up button, it clicks, but nothing happens. It started with CM7 and I have since changed ROMs (specifically LorD ClockaN's ICS ROM that shows a volume slider when you put the volume down ) so I know that isn't the problem. Pretty sure it's hardware related. The furthest I've opened this thing up is taking the volume rocker off, so I don't know if there are any internal problems or what to look for. The little nubs on the buttons are still there and there is a satisfying click sound when I press up or down.
I've seen a lot of mention of "flex cables" but I can't find anything that really tells you what that is.
What can I do to fix this? I'd love to not be restricted to one ROM AND it's really annoying that I can't flash radios or anything without using fastboot since you have to press up to confirm. :/

You could flash 4EXT Touch Recovery. Touch recovery is nice. You just may have to flash/push it using adb.
Are you still under warranty? I've heard some people have issues before with the volume rocker, but very few. Wish I could help ya there.

it can be fixed but you have to replace the entire button assembly, should be able to find the part on google (i dont know the part number) and there are plenty of tutorials. Personally i would try the warranty route first as a lot of things can get damaged if repaired incorrectly or if you are not experienced in this.
Called HTC and they said I have 4 days left on my warranty and that it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my phone back. Holy crap. I can't even imagine a day without my phone.

Power button magically stopped working

Out of nowhere my power button magically no longer works. Kind of a huge deal since I use my phone for work a TON. At first I thought it was the ROM but then I rebooted into recovery and discovered it doesn't work in there either...... but by some sort of miracle though my phone magically boots itself up when I swap batteries in it....
I am rooted and running Beans 20.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

You can get an app called button savior from Google play that allows you to create on screen keys to turn off your screen.
Various xposed modules allow you to remap your physical keys. If you don't know about the xposed framework I highly suggest looking into it.
Furthermore I believe some custom roms have key mapping built in.

My power button just started malfunctioning too. I'm on Odin barebones 4.1.2 stock and the problem persists.
It sounds like a lot of people are getting this problem. If you use that knowledge to your advantage, I've heard people convince Samsung it's a manufacturing problem and got it repaired outside of Warranty. The power button itself is sautered onto the motherboard, so unless you really trust a mobile repair company, best option is work directly with Samsung.
That being said, I'm going to look for an Xposed Framework module that can remap the power button.
I looked for one, didn't really find what I was looking for... selling mine on ebay now to pay for my new phone...

Wow. My power button just stopped working also.
My phone is stock.
I did replace the glass myself a couple months ago and it's been working fine until about a week ago. Was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Interesting to see I'm not the only one having issues.
Kind of timely now that the S5 is coming out this week.

This is happening to a lot of people. I'm sure the s4 will start having this problem followed by the s5 after a year and some months. Im done with samsung phones until they start using different parts. Actually thinking about the next nexus phone and hack a msata drive into it with a custom vacume formed case. The only reason I haven't owned one is because of the storage limitation. I think a 200+ gigabyte msata strapped to the back would fix that problem.

Hey guys, mine originally starting messing up on Saturday, and then Sat night and all day Sun is was fine, and now it is doing it again. I even installed a new rom and it is still doing it so now I am convinced it is purely physical and not rom-related. What are you guys going to do?
I have the Wireless Phone Protection for my phone and am thinking about using that to my advantage to get a new device....question is I've never done it before. If I say I have a physical problem with my phone then won't Verizon want it returned? That will make me have to unroot it and bring it back to out of box state which is a big headache. What if I just say I lost it or it got stolen? Am I better off going that route?
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that along with these power button issues my S3 also will not reboot on its own. If I select Reboot (be it from the power button menu, notification pulldown, etc) it will just shut off and not reboot.....but if I yank the battery and put it back in it will then reboot to recovery. Same deal if I do a normal reboot, haven to yank and replace battery. You guys having these issues too?
So a couple of days ago my power button started acting wonkie as well. I would push it and it basically acted sticky. I would push once but it would register twice or as a long press. Either turning the screen on and off or bring up the reboot menu. So I did the xposed button remapping. Worked pretty well, but if I restarted the phone it would do a weird haptic feedback thing every couple of seconds before finally booting up.
So I wasn't satisfied with just living with it being a hardware issue. So I downloaded latest cleanrom to flash from cm11. I rebooted recovery and now it just vibrates every couple of seconds. Would not make it to twrp. It will get to cm Samsung boot screen but then just goes back to vibrating black screen. I took out battery and popped out power button but same results.
Any suggestions? Think power button can be fixed by repair shop or is it time to go back to my trusty droid incredible until I can upgrade.

It can be fixed. There is also a way of temporarily making the power button work but I don't feel like explaining it again. If you do some searching there are at least 20 threads that have the temp fix in it.

Bluetooth controllers

I got ipega 9055 game controller and noticed moving keys don't right. Keys get stuck or not register. Controller works in other phones.
This problem seems to be in other lenovo phones also.
I found some other people have similar issues:

I'm going to flash custom rom because of this. I tried everything i can think of with no result..
This issue has been pretty long and Lenovo is probably not going to do anything about it.
It would be nice to know if problem persists in custom rom. I strongky think its software related but i will see after 14 days...
Been tempted to stay clear of rooting this one for the likes of sky go and android pay so let me know how you get on with the flash. See if it helps. I was checking the Bluetooth specs on my P2 compared to other devices and it doesn't seem to be that. So I'm stumped. It appears the joystick is the only thing not responding properly. One press and it appears to be stuck in that position. I know for a fact it's not the joystick. Works a treat on my old S5.

Im also positive there is nothing wrong with my gamepad, tested mine with S6.
I let you know how it goes.
I can tell you now that nothing's wrong with your gamepad. In the MegaN64 app there's an option in input, controller, controller diagnostics to check the button and directional pushes. As you can see from the first screenshot the left joystick pushed down (AXIS-Y) is stuck on +0.67. Somewhere between half and a whole push. I had released the joystick while I took this screenshot. It's just stuck there. In the second screenshot I pushed the right trigger button (AXIS_GAS) Which cancelled the stuck joystick position but then that trigger button got stuck on +0.40. Nearly half a push. I had also let go of the trigger button while I took this screenshot. Personally I think it's down to Lenovo using cheap Bluetooth hardware. That's my guess. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

I have not yet flashed because of waiting period. Still 8 days remaining.
But in dev section i got answer that custom rom will fix issue.

Then again I suppose there's no Knox counter on P2 haha. I'm assuming you can unroot if necessary?
Are you going to install that custom ROM in the link? Or another?
No knox counter but OEM lock what you can unlock from dev settings(waiting time 14 days). After that you loose warranty.
I was thinking to try AOSP extended(same as link) but i have not decided.
I suppose you can unroot and go back to stock but warranty is gone.
edit: Now im on Resurrection mod. No problem with bt controller what so ever.

I was going to update anyone else on stock ROM. Just received a Gamesir WIRED controller and it's STILL experiencing the same issues. So after all that it's not been a Bluetooth issue at all. Ah that would explain why my Drone was acting crazy yesterday when I was flying it with my USB Gamepad, I thought the gamepad was shot ! It never crossed my mind that the P2 might be at fault...oh well a few more days to wait before I can unlock it.
I wonder if they'll just ever release Nougat for it? Haha. They're slacking big time.
btw if there is still people using stock system and want issue fixed, Lenovo has asked me for log info. I couldn't wait and flashed custom rom. Here is thread link if anyone is interested:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/P2-P2a42-Smartphones/bluetooth-controller-problem/td-p/3652943
Nice one, Kiryo. I'm still on stock for Android pay as it's come in so handy. ? Already had developer options enabled as I thought there might be an extra Bluetooth setting to adjust to try and fix the issue but there wasn't. So I've enabled bugging reports now. I'll send them a report over as soon as I get the controller connected later on. ?

Well there is all that i need. I have no need for VR mode but i guess it works in apps normally.
I also dont use dual app mode but i guess there is mutitasking option there.
Custom roms offer much more configurations than stock.
Im overall happy. There is still some issues with volume echoing with speaker and volume sliders during call etc.. but nothing too serious.
I'm just happy with functional bt controller.
Yeah I bet. Thanks for the info. ?
I'll look into making a nand backup as well I think. (If that still exists)
