[FIXED]Smart Lock- Trusted Places - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why isn't there any option for "Trusted Places" in the Smart Lock settings? This is supposed to be one of the features of Lollipop that I want to enable. Am I missing something?

UPDATE: Thanks to Kenkiller. Reboot, after installing Google play service apk, I now have the option. (There seems to be an issue with tapatalk uploading image so I will repost screen shot when it's fixed)

I found several sites mentioning it and they provided links to the latest Google play services apk. But after installing the latest apk, I still don't have the option.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks. That worked.

I installed a new version before confirming the Shield Tablet's play services version number. I installed the -438 version from the apkmirrors site. I didn't notice the instructions on comparing version numbers until after Would anyone be so kind as to confirm if I installed the right version or not? Thanks.

I installed - 438 and it's working for me after reboot.

My play services ends in 736, but do not see an updated version for this version.

I'm not sure what I had previous to updating to -438 but I'm just glad it's working now. Why don't you just install -438?

I can confirm: original installed version on mine is 6.1.88 (1557022-736).
According to the notes:
-x36 is supposed to be for 320 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
-x38 is supposed to be for 480 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
So using -438 looks like it's the wrong DPI for the Shield tablet. There may be more differences as well.
-4xx vs. -7xx there isn't a clear difference outlined - perhaps Nexus device vs. other?
Might be better to wait until a 6.5.87+ for -736 is released..

I installed it and it does work. It works when the GPS can check where you are. In my house it's 50/50 if it works for trusted locations since Maps tends to see me as being 2 house down when I'm in my house. So .. yeah. I still have to do the 4 digit pin over 50% of the time.
It's a start.

Never mind, just updated on its own.

Me too - just updated via the Play Store and got the -436 build.
Trusted places would be better if it used connected Wi-Fi networks as a validation - I'm in a building and with Trusted places the way it's currently set up, the whole building appears as a trusted place instead of a specific apartment/unit...Perhaps a feature for a future version...

Most probably not going to be implemented as wifi networks can be easily spoofed. You can just imagine the tech idiots going to town with that info saying how insecure Android is with such "slipshod" security.
Just implement it yourself with secure settings and llama/tasker.

Agreed - that's why I said 'connected' Wi-Fi (not just SSID based) - of course, this likely means you'd have to leave Wi-Fi on during sleep, but I'm fine with that (actually prefer it).

hmmmm... I think if you have pattern set up as your security method you can't program with tasker (even with secure settings) that when connected to certain wifi you get no pattern unlocking....
I use Skiplock for my 4.4.4 device and the author has mentioned that this app will not be able to work on Lollipop due to the way it handles this security issue, even with root.
Carlos

Is there any reason why I should not have the Smart Lock feature available? I don't even see it in settings. I have play services v 6.5.88 (1599915-836).

Connectivity Manager
Connectivity Manager is a Wi-Fi and mobile data management tool.
I put this app on Android Market a few weeks ago and I thought I would share it here too, since I figured XDA users are more probable to use it than the general Android public.
Features:
- Monitor your Wi-Fi connection and disable it after a preset time if no network is connected, with a possibility to retry connection periodically.
- Schedule your connections; disable Wi-Fi or mobile data automatically during the periods you set.
- Enable or disable Wi-Fi and mobile data for a preset time.
- On/Off switches for both connection types are provided on the main screen of the application, for easy access.
(Mobile data functionality currently only works on devices with Android 2.3 and above, Wi-Fi works for older versions)
Changelog:
IMPORTANT: When updating to v4.0 or newer, times set in scheduler for earlier versions will not work anymore. Please use the new method.
12.06.01 v(4.0.1):
Fix for bug in scheduler which sometimes prevented disabling
12.05.21 (v4.0):
Scheduler has been completely remade:
Set as many disable periods as you like, on whichever weekdays you want
The option to show notification is now changed instantly when checked/unchecked
Vastly more reliable than before
The usual bug fixes
12.05.02 (v3.0.3):
Added Russian language (thanks to [email protected] for translating)

Hi ukanth, really sorry for the lateness of my reply.
The application being incompatible with your Desire on Play Store is odd, have you set a custom LCD density? I have tried to make the application compatible with any density, but I have not succeeded so far.

[APP]DroidSheep : ARP-Spoofing App for Android

DroidSheep is an Android app for Security analysis in wireless networks and capturing facebook, twitter, linkedin and other accounts.
DroidSheep requires ROOT!
Please note:
DroidSheep was developed as a tool for testing the security of your accounts.
This software is neither made for using it in public networks, nor for hijacking any other persons account.
It should only demonstrate the poor security properties network connections without encryption have.
So do not get DroidSheep to harm anybody or use it in order to gain unauthorized access to any account you do not own! Use this software only for analyzing your own security!
Here are videos of what it does:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4ROlCgTr80
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIWkee7RjbU
www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7NUluxUORs
Here is a video Tutorial on how to use it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N-SBx5EF3g
How does this work?
As already announced DroidsSheep supports almost every website – also “big” webservices like facebook and Yahoo.
How does that work this simple?
There are many users that do not known that air is the transmission medium when using WiFi.
Therefore information is not only transfered to its receiver but also to any other party in the network within the range of the radio waves.

Usually nothing special happens because the WiFi users discard packets that are not destined to themselves.
DroidSheep does not do this. It reads all the packets looking at their contents.
Is a website sending a clear recognition feature within a message’s content, which can identify a user (“SessionID”), then DroidSheep is able to read it although it is not intended to external users.
Moreover DroidSheep can use this token to use it as its own.
The server can’t decide whether the authorized user or DroidSheep has sent the request.

How can I protect myself?
The only satisfying answer is: SSL respectively HTTPS.
Many providers already offer HTTPS, even facebook, however it must often be enabled in the settings first.
When using HTTPS the data are still sent to alle participants in the WiFi-network, too, but because the data has been encrypted it is impossible for DroidSheep to decrypt the contect of a message - remaining only a complete mess of letters, with which an attacker can’t do anything.
The real problem is that not every website provides SSL. What to do when you are in a public network (hotel, airport, etc.), you also want to use this and the site does not offer HTTPS though?
You can use a VPN-connection
For this the computer sets up an encrypted channel to a confidential computer which again transfers the data to the website.
Please note this is NOT my work I am simply sharing this and giving a direct link to the APK (it was removed from droidsheep.de because of German rules).

Build 15 is nowhere to be found for now…
OP updated with build 14
Im having no luck with this app on my nexus s 4g. Which is a shame. I can post debugging info if somebody could help me out.
The v15 is in the official SVN: https://code.google.com/p/droidshee...idsheep/DroidSheep_public/AndroidManifest.xml
And since there's no official APK, you have to compile it yourself. Thus the different signature.
Attached is v15 compiled by myself.
Does it work on ICS?
I want to be sure if it works befor im rooting my Note
Yes
not working xperia neo cant search for anything i leave it for about 10min still nothing i also done what youtube tells me to do still nothing im using my home router with password....

It doesnt work.lol
I connected to wifi and did some browsing on other devices. I.e tablets.
didnt find anything.
It works for me, but there's a mess with sessions. Probably you should consider mapping each session to each Wifi network and not showing old ones with new networks... Just a suggestion
It is working on ICS, perhaps you have IP client isolation on WiFi router...
Not working for me on Galaxy Note ICS... Do you think it's related to my conection? How should I change it?
EDIT i installed the v15 version and know it's perfect!
It shows up under my kapersky as potential virus, any reason for this??

Hi there, just wanted to share my latest app. Amazon daily app
If you are a user of the Amazon app-shop like me, you may have encounter the same problem as me:
- Being "forced" to download the free app of the day to add it to your account
Well you can still cancel the download once it's launch, but hey ... it was bothering me.
So here it is, with "Amazon daily app" you can see what is the app of the day, add it to your account, or download it (still need to get it by the amazon app).
Feel free to leave me comments and remarks.
If you do like the app or just want to help, a nice comment/rate on the app sotre wil be appreciated
And if you don't like it, there's plenty of apps that will certainly suit you on XDA (but no rate & comment will be appreciated ^^)
Play store link : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chimerique.AmazonDailyFreeApps.free
Cheers :highfive:
I've been waiting for this. I use the "free app of the day" app, but they're mostly things I'm not interested in so it'll be uninstalled soon. I much prefer the Amazon free apps, but unfortunately this isn't compatible with my phone (HTC One).
I'll be all over this as soon as I can be

Nop, I've a GS2 under 4.2.2 and a LG 2X under 2.3

It works for me now too. Thanks for sorting that
Edit: Why does it need login credentials? You don't need them to find out what the free app is.
Not that the app is not useful but you can also bookmark http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b/ref=topnav_storetab_mas?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011 from pc or mobile device to see the app of the day and "purchase" it without downloading. This will work for all devices period.

True, that's why at the beginning I only wanted to load the webpage, and play with custom CSS, in sort to see only needed information, and have a more user friendly interface. But performance wasn't really there, so I decided to go a bit further in the process
The other objective (not sure it should be done) is to automate all this process, and just grab every day the free app. This is only if I found a nice way to keep the session open (token or whatever)
@Archer: The credential are not needed to see what's the free app. It's only asked once you decide to "buy" it (for free) with your amazon account. Basically the credential is always ask to authenticate yourself to amazon website, as I don't want (for now) to store your password.
Hi there, little heads up for the last version which now can give you a daily reminder!
Some people did ask for it, so I added the possibility to save your password and so not have to type it each time.
The password is encrypted and save.
But still be aware that this is no safe mesure, and you should definitly use a dummy account for this.

[APP][4.0+] CellCB - Talk with people nearby just like a CB radio

I recently put up a new app on Google Play called CellCB and thought I would post here to try and get some feedback on it. CellCB is an app that is meant to behave just like a CB radio in that it will allow you to talk with people within range of your phone. Unlike a traditional CB radio it does not operate on the 27 MHz band, so sorry to the folks who were hoping to use it as an alternative to the bulky unit they may have installed in their car or truck. What it actually does is use the GPS system on your phone to figure out what other CellCB users are in range on your phone and list/broadcast to them over the Internet. Right now it is set to a range of 4 miles but I may make this more/less in the future depending on usage.
CellCB is meant to be simple to use and closely simulate the behavior of a CB radio as much as possible:
Launch the app - Like turning a CB radio on it will immediately start listening for people broadcasting nearby
Hold the "Transmit" button - Like holding down the button on a handset it will broadcast your voice to people nearby
I hope to implement other features such as multiple channel selection, probably 40 like CB radios have, as well as some extras like making recordings and such. For the time being I just have the basic functionality with a single channel to see what people think and understand how well the core of it works. My goal is to keep things as simple as possible and therefore there is no type of registration needed before using it and no special configuration is needed like other apps that perform walkie talkie functionality over wifi or bluetooth.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binaryroad.cellcb
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions/comments. Since this is a pretty new app you will probably need to find someone else to use it with, otherwise the chances of hearing someone broadcasting nearby your position at random are quite low.

If Google Maps doesn't give your position either then it sounds like a problem with your phone in general and not CellCB. If your aren't able to get your location on Google Maps after a while you might want to contact the phone manufacturer about getting GPS working on your phone.
Thanks for everyone who has been using this so far. I found a bug that would happen with people who were on flaky connections and have fixed it now. Hopefully that was it and things should run smoothly now.
I have made a couple more fixes to deal with some issues for how location updates are done for certain phones. If anyone encounters any trouble with the current system, please let me know.
Nice idea.

Can you logcat ??
Hmmm. I uninstalled it immediately. There's no status of what it's doing and all I see are ads.
I'm sure there is some power under the covers, but it would help to provide a settings screen first where the user can disable ads and maybe a description of what will happen while it communicates with the router.
I don't get it why someone needs such an app especially because you can a) Open your Router GUi via Browser or b) use the apps which are provided directly from your Router manufracture.
Thanks for the effort and app and everything but I have many doubts especially when it comes to security, because you're only a single developer, there is no source code and not really an explanation about everything what the app exactly does.

I don't get it why someone needs such an app especially because you can a) Open your Router GUi via Browser or b) use the apps which are provided directly from your Router manufracture.

And here i thought i was the only one thinking the same thing ? If only xda could be how it was in the past... No offence to OP or the apk he promotes but these days theres more apsks popping up faster than cockroaches dissapearing in the light ?.... Good luck
At this stage you should change name of this app to "full screen advertisement player".
Could not even check what this app is about as full screen apps have been popping out all the time.

I don't believe that people are necessarily saying that your app is a "hack" but it's more of an issue of can others access your app, or can other apps access your app, and ads inside of an application that does things like accessing your routers GUI isn't acceptable because ads already track and report back as much information as they possibly can, and it's not secure at all to see ads that are all over the gateway to and from the internet. If an app on our device can gain access to your app, or if someone from outside of the network is able to gain access to our router, then they could potentially have access to the entire network, including every device connected via wireless or wired, doing massive amounts of damage, or simply compromise the network to use it as a part of a botnet.
