Hello,
Didnt see this posted here. For a limited time, At&t is cutting the 15GB shared plan by $30. Meaning, if you are already using the 10GB plan, you can upgrade to 15GB plan for the same price. Pretty awesome deal IMO.
Wow, thanks for the heads up. I was seriously considering jumping to the 30GB plan when they offered the promo but hesitated because my family doesn't exceed 10. This helps me not regret it.
Yes sir, as soon as I heard about the promo I change my plan right away. Previously had the 10GB plan.

DUDE! You ROCK! I totally found this thread by accident!
Still rocking a Sammy S3, contract is up and I'm trying to decide between the S5, Note 4 or G3. I want the N4 but I don't want a phone without atleast Root and Chainfire says it's not looking too hot for the Note 4 anytime soon.
Anyway I was comparing the S5 to the G3 and checking out what dev support there is for the two so I just happened to pop over to the G3 section.
Saw this thread and just called ATT. On the phone for 5 minutes and poof I'm upgraded to 15GB for the same price at my 10GB! I too saw that if your on 15GB get upgraded to 30GB for free, or buy 15GB for $30.00 more a month and they upgrade you to 30GB. Almost did it but couldn't justify upgrading to the 15GB for $30 more to get the 30GB. I would NEVER come close to the 30GB and we don't go over our 10GB now because we are careful. We have 4 shared lines, two of which are used by a teenage boy and girl so um yeah I'm always policing the data like a data Nazi! Now I won't have to be so mean to the kids with their data usage!
Again, thanks for posting this!
This is pretty sweet deal for me because I am streaming Spotify with extreme quality and I am using an average of 9GB per month.. Now I dont have to worry about over using my data plan anymore

Tiny plans
Even the low end plans are getting bumped. was on a 2GB, now that a 3 for the same money. which is good because i put my mother in law on the wifes and my plan ("oh i'll never use it .... .")
Awesome. Just upped to 15gb. I saw fine print about their promotional double up where 15gb goes to 30gb. Does that apply to this?
I'm wondering if this will become the new standard?? 15 is the new 10 and 30 is the new 15 and so on. I wonder if they ran the promotion to gauge demand and maybe we see other carriers follow?

Heres what you do, still be a data hitler to your kids and pretend you only have 10 gigs, then use the extra 5gigs for yourself!! :highfive:
BTW, its not a promo.. Its perma pricing.

Ok saw this in the sensation forum and tried it and got 5 gig for20 bucks vs 30. Rumor is no soft cap... Well I'll find out cause I'm gonna try and hit it..

Ask for retentions, politely ask about the android preferred data plan. Then when the say yes, make sure its 5gb for 20 bucks... Then ask if they can apply it to your account..... They still say there is a cap, but others report no throttling. Either way its 10 bucks off...
What's this got to do with g2x you may ask? Well it just makes our g2x that much pimper...
They let me do it on both lines and one is new... Time to test throttling
I will give that a try when I get back home from work....
Thanks for the heads up
Im on this plan but never go over to test it out

Hell ya, great job... Listen to this..
Used to have two lines, family share for 99$+ 20$ 2 gigs, + 30$ for 5 gigs, 7.99$ insurance plus taxes like 160+ .. Called and got the g2x free adding another line for only 10$ a month, so total 170+ and free g2x..
Today, called and switched 30$ 5 gig plan to 20$, so that cancels out the new line cost. Them called and got the 20$ 2 gig plan changed to 20$ 5 gig plan...
So I made out this last week, free phone, free line and unlimited 5gb plans ..
I have been using this data add-on for YEARS. Whether it be the Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or Total Internet package I have been using the same data plan (effectively) for $20.

Just changed my plan today...
I had Family 1000 with 2 lines and an @home $10 a month plan. My data lines were $30-5gb for mine, and my daughter had the $15-200mb plan. I called and converted both to the $20-5gb android plan. I started the converstation stating that's what I was calling about, and the rep told me immediately that it was available. No hassle at all. I'm happy!
Awesome guys glad to hear y'all getting hooked up.
Thanks for the tip. I called tmo and the rep put me on hold and asked the retention depth for me. Now I have the preferred android web only plan. He told me it was twenty bucks for five gig, but I must not sure what "web only"means. I hope it is the right plan.

I just got off the phone with customer care and they switched my data to the android preferred plan in about 30 seconds. Thank you very much for this tip!!!
Same here! At, first the rep told me that it was a "web only plan" with no minutes. I told the rep that I knew of others that had this plan and still had minutes as well. He asked about my device and we had a quick chat about the G2x and how I was going to switch to the sensation. After a few minutes of chatting he obliged and added the package for me!
5GB for 20 bucks?!?! Can't beat that!
No go for me.
I'm currently on a Family Classic 1000 Minute - Talk+Text for $79.99 and 2GB Data for $20.
I was told that the Android Preferred Plan (5GB for $20) is for customers that are on a newer plan that was just introduced 6 days ago. My "new" plan that was introduced in May, 2011, is not eligible and I will have to pay a ETF I wanted to change to the newest plan to benefit the Android Preferred Plan.
Anybody else run into this roadblock as well?
Thanks,
Anthony
I'm in a similar situation. Since they changed me to the new value plan for $59 and waived the $200 migration fee, they will only give me 5GB if I pay $25 for it, which is an additional $15 for me... I'm considering it strongly, though.

Hey guys. I was snooping around in the G2X threads and found a thread talking about an Android Preferred data plan. You can get 5gb for only $20 instead of $30. I heard that it uncaps your data also. People have reported no throttling also. I called up and asked for the Android Preferred Plan and I got it. Even if it doesnt uncap data, im still saving $20 a month (2 lines). The rep told me that it reset my data usage for the month. Awesome!! Give it a try guys!

Yes they lied to you.
I have a 6 year old family plan with 5 lines and we all have the pref android plan.
Then again we also have free myfavs, free unlimited wifi calling and 9.99 unlimited messaging. Just make sure you get routed to retentions when you call in (say cancel at the prompt)
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA App
Thanks guys, I called retentions and they added the feature to both lines. The only catch with the Classic plans is that it is a required feature, meaning you have to keep it for two years. No big deal, just renewed last month anyway.
the 2 year contract is pretty much a moot point if the merger/takeover goes through, i think if it does we'll all be able to get out of any contract ETF free.
Even if AT&T says they will guarantee existing pricing, I know that they will force me to change to something more expensive or leave since they have nothing that comes close to price with what I am getting now (5 lines with all those features for almost $200 WITH taxes). AT&T will tell me to hit the road
It seems as it is truely unlimited and not 5GB. Either way, it's better than the 2GB I was stuck with before.
My plan gives me 5 gigs for $15... Its two lines for?$99 or something with 2 gigs, for my line i pay an extra $15 for 5 gigs.... So what plan are you guys on where $20 is cheaper?

Last time I renewed it was $30 for the "unlimited" Android data plan that goes to EDGE after 5GB.

OP says once you get it, you get it for the contract but if you can't find a definitive response, who knows.
In all the promo material Verizon it states that you will keep it until you opt into something, no longer how long you keep it. However if you switch to a 3G phone you will lose it, and will be unable to get it back.
Verizon has confirmed that this will be grandfathered once you get it.

hey guys, ive been here for over a year now and finally have decided to move on to another phone.
I read somewhere on the internet that VZW would let you downgrade your plan to 6gb a month and receive a subsidized priced phone. I inquired about this and was informed that this deal was only availble via the Edge program. I quickly said no thank you and moved on. Today I called back and explained why I didnt want the edge program and the rep agreed with me about my points about edge.
He was able to downgrade my plan to 6gb monthly for the same price. Ive never gone over 2gb and was wanting to keep my unlimited plan out of principle, not need.
So all in all I got my HTC one coming in sometime this week and Im really excited about it. I just thought Id share here

I'd probably consider doing the same if I didn't use my LTE to supplement my home internet at times. For some odd reason 12Mb down and 1Mb up isn't good enough for a decent Skype video call... It's horrendous. I find myself tethering my LTE for this. I don't go crazy overboard like some people, but I do go over 6GB.

They didn't really do you a favor. They are doing amazing things now to get people off unlimited. Glad it worked for you and if anything we can learn from this is that even Verizon is willing to negotiate... especially when you're giving up unlimited data
I'm still using a SGS3 I paid full price for on launch day. So is my wife and 2 kids. Back then I could afford to pay full price for 4 phones. Today I can't but we all want to upgrade. It's been nearly 2 years after all and everyone else has shiny new phones. Verizon has the HTC One M8 for $99. I can handle 4 of them at that price. The problem is I'll have to get rid of my unlimited data. Right now we use a combined 10GB or so each month but we rarely have WIFI on so I'm sure we can get that number down. But that's not what I'm concerned with. I'm more concerned about the future of data usage as things become more data intensive. I see the data usage growing over the years. SO, is the HTC One M8 worth giving up the unlimited data and possibly paying much more per month in the future? Or should I hold out for something else?
I used 24GB last month. Remember data goes quick.

This phone is unbelievable. I came from the GSIII and am in shock at how much better phones are now in the two years that passed since that phone was considered new and exciting. I think people who stream movies and music nonstop should keep unlimited. I personally am almost always on Wifi, and when I'm not I don't so anything like downloading movies or something. Who uses that much data away from home? I use about a half gig a month, and likely many gigabytes of Wifi data per month through my ISP at home.

It's gonna cost you $260.00 a month for 4 lines and 10gb of data. The phone is way awesome. I feel it's the best available. You aren't using any where near what an unlimited user would normally use so a 10gb plan is probably OK. But the caveat will be the the increase in your monthly.
I don't know but I'll bet your not even close to $260.00. If you are jump on it, you'll like it. If not, these are tough times, and a big increase in a monthly bill might suck.
Just for the conversation, since I started using this phone, my personal data usage went down 20%. I also came from a Samsung Note 2.
Seeing as VZW unlimited data is priceless and the phone has a price, no. Don't give in; you'd only be doing what they want — making them more money at your detriment.
i wouldn't get rid of the unlimited data for anything. once you do it you aren't getting it back so keep that in mind and look at how much data plans are now. just my opinion
Hasn't Verizon said that they intend to throttle speeds for users on the unlimited plan? Thought I read that somewhere.

I don't know what deals best buy or the direct htc website have right now (may be more than Verizon's $99) but the trick is finding a website that 1) doesn't force you to pick out your new plan before checking out and 2) will ship the phone directly to your home. Bottom line I bought an m8 at the subsidized price and kept my unlimited without swapping upgrades from other lines. I've got a series old posts all about it if you look me up. They're either in this or the Rezound forums.
My method is to just keep a dumb phone line active on my account. $10 a month, and I transfer my upgrades to that line, activate the phone on that line, then transfer the phone to my unlimited line. Last two times I did this, my line was still eligible for an upgrade, so I got my wife an S5 and got myself the M8. It was obviously a glitch, and I'm no longer eligible for an upgrade, but hey, got two phones at subsidized price and kept the same data plans. I'm in unlimited and she's on double the data(a promotion they offered two years ago).

My daughter used to do a lot of streaming of music but I started just putting music on her phone SD card so she doesn't stream it anymore. That has drastically cut down on her data usage. I agree though that new phones are amazing. I used to think my old SGSIII was still snappy until I started checking out some of the newest devices. Makes me really want to upgrade.

Well my bill right now is $240 after tax. There is still insurance on 3 of the lines, I should have cancelled that long ago really. My line has the corporate unlimited data plan as I need it to use Good for Enterprise for work email. I also get a 17% discount through work. So it is likely my bill will go up slightly, especially if we go over the data allotment. Which is my main concern for the future, not right now. But who knows how long Verizon will even allow us to stay on unlimited anyway.

Thanks, I'll look into this. If it works it's an ingenious way to keep the unlimited!
Hell no. I paid outright for this phone to keep my unlimited. Once Verizon forcibly takes unlimited from me I'm leaving.

I think we all will. So I'm pretty sure they won't ever remove it, but just slowly throttle it more and more.

Actually VZW is matching AT&T with 4 lines and 10gb of data for $160 right now.
Personally, I won't give up my unlimited data for anything. I just bought the M8, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I like this phone. I paid full retail, I know you can get them cheaper on swappa, eBay, and CL, but I wanted to be the 1st to own it. Great phone, I have 2 weeks to return it if I change my mind.
As far the OP's question, I don't think any phone is worth giving up my unlimited data for.
By the way this phone was cheap full retail. 32GB internal storage for $600 from Verizon store.

As stated previously I also don't believe there is any phone worth losing unlimited data. Not to take anything away from this device it's awesome don't get me wrong but I would max out a data plan in like three days lol.
