Ok saw this in the sensation forum and tried it and got 5 gig for20 bucks vs 30. Rumor is no soft cap... Well I'll find out cause I'm gonna try and hit it..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192020
Ask for retentions, politely ask about the android preferred data plan. Then when the say yes, make sure its 5gb for 20 bucks... Then ask if they can apply it to your account..... They still say there is a cap, but others report no throttling. Either way its 10 bucks off...
What's this got to do with g2x you may ask? Well it just makes our g2x that much pimper...
They let me do it on both lines and one is new... Time to test throttling
I will give that a try when I get back home from work....
Thanks for the heads up
Im on this plan but never go over to test it out

Hell ya, great job... Listen to this..
Used to have two lines, family share for 99$+ 20$ 2 gigs, + 30$ for 5 gigs, 7.99$ insurance plus taxes like 160+ .. Called and got the g2x free adding another line for only 10$ a month, so total 170+ and free g2x..
Today, called and switched 30$ 5 gig plan to 20$, so that cancels out the new line cost. Them called and got the 20$ 2 gig plan changed to 20$ 5 gig plan...
So I made out this last week, free phone, free line and unlimited 5gb plans ..
I have been using this data add-on for YEARS. Whether it be the Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or Total Internet package I have been using the same data plan (effectively) for $20.

Thanks! this worked for me- been a customer for 7 years also
Just changed my plan today...
I had Family 1000 with 2 lines and an @home $10 a month plan. My data lines were $30-5gb for mine, and my daughter had the $15-200mb plan. I called and converted both to the $20-5gb android plan. I started the converstation stating that's what I was calling about, and the rep told me immediately that it was available. No hassle at all. I'm happy!
Awesome guys glad to hear y'all getting hooked up.
Thanks for the tip. I called tmo and the rep put me on hold and asked the retention depth for me. Now I have the preferred android web only plan. He told me it was twenty bucks for five gig, but I must not sure what "web only"means. I hope it is the right plan.

I just got off the phone with customer care and they switched my data to the android preferred plan in about 30 seconds. Thank you very much for this tip!!!
Same here! At, first the rep told me that it was a "web only plan" with no minutes. I told the rep that I knew of others that had this plan and still had minutes as well. He asked about my device and we had a quick chat about the G2x and how I was going to switch to the sensation. After a few minutes of chatting he obliged and added the package for me!
5GB for 20 bucks?!?! Can't beat that!
No go for me.
I'm currently on a Family Classic 1000 Minute - Talk+Text for $79.99 and 2GB Data for $20.
I was told that the Android Preferred Plan (5GB for $20) is for customers that are on a newer plan that was just introduced 6 days ago. My "new" plan that was introduced in May, 2011, is not eligible and I will have to pay a ETF I wanted to change to the newest plan to benefit the Android Preferred Plan.
Anybody else run into this roadblock as well?
Thanks,
Anthony
I'm in a similar situation. Since they changed me to the new value plan for $59 and waived the $200 migration fee, they will only give me 5GB if I pay $25 for it, which is an additional $15 for me... I'm considering it strongly, though.

I called Customer Loyalty and got a nice lady and was friendly to her. I didn't threaten to cancel or anything, here is a paraphrasing of the conversation:
Me: "I have a friend who recommended T-Mobile to me, and he has a Vibrant with a $20 data and when I asked about it in the store they said they could only activate me under the $30 plan, but I could talk to a customer service to change my plan."
Rep: I don't see that option being available on your account.
Me: <silence>
Rep: Well let me see what I can find....(10 seconds later)...I can definitely make that change on your account for you.
Me: Thank you so much, that really helps out. Have a great day.
Obviously there was some paraphrasing but it was pretty much as simple as "I know someone who has this, can I have it?" I now have 2 MT4G's with $20 data plans on a contract that is a week old.
But what did you pay for the phone?
I went entirely through retention and they offered (I did not ask) the phone for $99 in addition to the $20 plan.

I got the phones for 79.99 each both with a $50 rebate in-store after I showed them the Wirefly/Bank of America deal.
So 29.99 after rebate a piece.
I too have the $20 android data plan on my MT4g. I've had it for a few months with my other android devices.

Nice (but with $20 plan)? Also, upgrade or new plan?
I am surprised you got the deal at a store - as they were wining about how they were not allowed to do deals there - especially with respect to the plans. I went through retention because of this.
Maybe it's the 2gig plan and not the unlimited plan?
I've had the $20 data plans for a while now (unlimited data) for all 3 of my data using lines. They are AWESOME. But I got to pay $125 (after instant rebate) for my mytouch4g which is fine because they've hooked me up sooooooooooooooo much in the past few years that I am not about to complain about what better pricing they offer me. They are truly awesome and the best part is.... most of the time, like 99% of the time, they offer me these deals and I don't have to ask them for a damned thing. Now THAT is rare.
I've been with them also since 2002 so that helps a bit lol.
It was on new contract activations and I got the unlimited plan for $20

Odd, because I just called them as well and they told me there is no need to change my package because either way I have unlimited data and that includes 4G network where I live. As part of their unlimited data package it includes, edge, 2g, 3g, and 4g so my $20 unlimited data package is just fine...esp. considering my phone is a 4G phone. Hmmmmm =/
It's basically just a rename as I take it then. They both said the package operates the exact same way.

I have the same plan, but when I go to my account at their website and check on services for that line, it pops up a message that I need to convert to the 4G plan (for $30 of course).
I will not do it, as I agreed to going from a $15 unlimited data plan to the unlimited "android" plan for $20 only 2 weeks ago to get the upgrade MT4G.
I may have to get the retention dept to "fix" this (they can do a lot of things the regular support cannot do - like activate a new line on my @home service - which is otherwise no longer supported)

Yeah it's actually been like that for me for months now. For some reason the loyalty dept.s data package doesn't show online for me as well. And every time I tried to go in to change services (well to add visual voicemail) it popped up.
They expressed to me our packages are no different then those with the name of 4G. I would hope so lol.
I might call them and see if they can fix that too online though for future use.
*edit* I just called he said it has something to do with the fact that the data package given to us thru loyalty (the pricing being the difference) doesn't appropriate with the system for some odd reason but they put in a request to have it fixed, ALSO He assured me "200%" that our package is "exact same" as this so called 4G package but simply for better lack of understanding "renamed to 4G package" because before they had 5 or 6 different types, now its simply 2.

Most people can't make use of unlimited data. If you look at your data usage you might want to take the 200 mb (there is no 2 gb plan as suggest by JCorpornicus). On my 3 lines we were using at the max about 80,000 kb on one of the phones (the 200 mb plan is for each phone) so we took the $10 200 mb plan on each phone. Saved a lot of money!
I wonder if they charge you overage on the 200mb plan once you go over, or if they cap it like the 5gb plan. If its the latter, I would totally switch to save money, as I'm always around wifi anyway.
It also doesn't make sense that they charge $20 for 5gb and $10 for just 200mb o__O something seems off about that.

I just called in hopes of getting this deal and the rep told me the $20 data plan does not include text messages and to add text messages it would be $5 for 300 or $14 for unlimited.
The current plan I am on right now is 400 text messages and unlimited data for $25
I called and tried to sound calm and nice just asking for help but they only offered that or unlimited text/data for $30
I have been with them for 8 years now. Am I missing something here?

The new price plans are equivalent to the old "even more plus" plan. Except with a 2yr contract now. Existing customers that had service for @ least 90 days can switch to these plans..the big difference is you lose out your discounted upgrade when eligible..phones are purchased at full retail price with the option to finance the phone by adding $10-$15 a month on your bill..same goes for new activations.

You can change plans anytime you want, and it won't affect your 2 year contract or upgrade eligibility. You do need to keep a data plan if you are on contract with a smart phone, otherwise the lowest cost plan available will hold up your end of a contract.
I know where I am going on monday. I just got my phone in the middle of June so there should not be an issue with me getting this plan.
Actually, this is my plan, just 20 bucks cheaper now.
Yeh, thanks for posting this. I just signed up on the 13th of June, and this new plan offers me the same that I have now for $20 less. Unlimited talk, text, and data, throttled after 2GB/month. I will be looking for customer service next week.
I could switch, but my 5GB before throttle would go down to 2GB, not that it matters now because I'm stuck on 2G, but if I move... I might miss that extra 3GB, but is it worth $20 more?
T-Mobile is set to announce Wednesday that it plans to cut the price of its smartphone plans. Most significantly, its mid-tier plan--which includes unlimited phone calls, text messages, and data--drops by $20 to $59.99 a month. In comparison, Sprint's comparable plan--which includes unlimited data, text, and calls to other cell phones--costs $69.99 a month.
For heavier data users, T-Mobile offers a $74.99 plan with an allotment of 5 gigabytes of data before throttling, which is $15 less than before. It also offers a lower-end, data-less plan for $49.99 with unlimited phone calls and text messages. That plan was previously $65. If you choose to pay for the phone through monthly installments, you can sign up for a 200-megabyte data option for $5 a month. Traditional contract customers can get the same option for $10 a month. The plans will be available on July 24.

Ah let's see. I'm paying $80 now for 1500 minutes, unlimited texts, 5 GB of data
With the new plan:
unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 2GB data for $60
unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 5GB data for $75
Wow, even switching to the new plan at 5GB is cheaper! I might as well switch to 2GB until my city gets 3G then up to 5GB later...
Is there any catch to these new plans?
so basically if we bought our phones on the $79.99 deal and did not have to pay full price, we will have to pay for the phone in full but will get $20 less per month in monthly bill?

I get unlimited everything with 5gig 4g cap. beautiful. been on tmo prepaid for about 3 years now starting way back with flexpay. its worked out great for me
so in all actuallity you can go and just buy a prepaid sim card and hop on the plan right now if you wanted to.

This is not correct. I just finished dealing with the retentions department on the phone (and this can be confirmed if you go online and try to change your plan to the Value Unlimited Plan). If you change to the Value plan, you are charged $200 migration fee on your next bill, which accounts for the difference in price for the phone.
I argued for 15 minutes that I HAD a brand new phone, but that since it was so problematic, the retentions department rep sent me a replacement phone...never said it was a refurbished model. And that when I went to update it the other day, it refused to update...so I called LG and it was confirmed that my DWP model is a factory refurbished model. I argued that I should not have to pay $200 for the difference in price for a brand new phone, since I have a refurb. She came back after several minutes and offered to put me on the new value plan starting next month if I meet them halfway and agree to pay $100 instead of the $200. I was tired of arguing and went ahead and agreed. I figured $20 less per month for 24 months is worth a lot more than $100 today. She was telling me that the biggest problem with them agreeing to move me over for free was that I'm such a new customer...I haven't built up any "tenure". So if you have been with T-mobile for much longer, I suppose it's possible for you to argue your way to a free migration.
Anyway, I'm satisfied with the deal.
So, being I signed up for a new plan on June 21st, I will have to pay 200 dollars to switch from paying 80 a month for unlimited talk, text, and 2GB data to the 60 plan that is the exact same thing, just 20 bucks less?

Yes, I just signed up June 13th for the same plan you did. But since I took the discounted price for the phone and signed the 2 year contract, when I wanted to switch to this cheaper version of the same plan today, they asked me for the difference of the cost of the phone...$200. I feel fortunate to have gotten the deal for $100 instead. It's still a great savings overall.
I agree. I will still do it, that is for sure.

Well called T-mobile about this plan and this is what they told me i could do. Since im a new customer i can do either these options:
Pay 59.99 Unlimited everything, BUT charged extra 5-15 dollars(depending on phone) and pay full price of phone in monthly installments over 20 month period.
Buy a phone off ebay, CL, or Pay full price in store of any phone and then i just get charged just 59.99
Or sign up for a "Regular contract" and pay 79.99 and buy phone of choice(discounted 2yr agreement price) And they run credit check to see if their is a deposit.
So many choices idk which one i should do? lol
Ok. I see uncertainty so I will try to address them all in this post. The new plans are great.. No matter how you look at them you are always going to come out in the positive in the long run. Unlimited Talk, Text, and Unlimited web with 2 GB of high speed data is $59.99. You will have to sign a new 2 Year contract. If you are on the Even More Plus plan you CANNOT come over onto the new plan (I know a loop hole). If you currently are on T-mobile and are in contract you will have to pay a migration fee that ranges from $200-0 depending on your current tenure. 18+ months will not have to pay a migration fee. On the new plans you must purchase your phone at the full retail but many will have EIP (Equipment Installment Plan) which will allow them to break the payments over a period of 21 months (If done at the store first payment will be at the store so that will make it 20 months).
For a family plan for 2 Lines Unlimited Talk, Text, and 2 GB of high speed web it will cost 99.99!!! That is super cheap. The same applies to a family plan as an individual. On the Even more plans it used to cost $179.99 ($80 savings) and compared to the classic plans $139.99, you save $40. Think about it..
Compared to the classic plan it is cheaper to be on the value plan on the long run. If you purchased 2 sensations (I chose this because its the most expensive phone I have) that makes is $550 x 2 = $1,100. If you take $40 savings x 24 months = $960 in rate plan. On the classic plan you still have to purchase the phones at $200 x 2 = $400. So for the value plan over 2 years take 99.99 x 24 (months) + $1,100 for phones = $3,500. While the classic plan will cost you 139.99 x 24 (months) + $400 (for the phone with MIR applied) = $3,760.
For 5 Lines Unlimited Talk Text and web 2 GB high speed on the value plan cost $205. Compared to the classic it will cost $290. 5 sensation on the value plan will cost $2750 while on the Classic it will cost $1000.
Value plan: $205 x 24 + $2750 = $7670.
Classic plan: $290 x 24 + $1000 = $7960.

Hey guys. I was snooping around in the G2X threads and found a thread talking about an Android Preferred data plan. You can get 5gb for only $20 instead of $30. I heard that it uncaps your data also. People have reported no throttling also. I called up and asked for the Android Preferred Plan and I got it. Even if it doesnt uncap data, im still saving $20 a month (2 lines). The rep told me that it reset my data usage for the month. Awesome!! Give it a try guys!

Yes they lied to you.
I have a 6 year old family plan with 5 lines and we all have the pref android plan.
Then again we also have free myfavs, free unlimited wifi calling and 9.99 unlimited messaging. Just make sure you get routed to retentions when you call in (say cancel at the prompt)
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA App
Thanks guys, I called retentions and they added the feature to both lines. The only catch with the Classic plans is that it is a required feature, meaning you have to keep it for two years. No big deal, just renewed last month anyway.
the 2 year contract is pretty much a moot point if the merger/takeover goes through, i think if it does we'll all be able to get out of any contract ETF free.
Even if AT&T says they will guarantee existing pricing, I know that they will force me to change to something more expensive or leave since they have nothing that comes close to price with what I am getting now (5 lines with all those features for almost $200 WITH taxes). AT&T will tell me to hit the road
It seems as it is truely unlimited and not 5GB. Either way, it's better than the 2GB I was stuck with before.
My plan gives me 5 gigs for $15... Its two lines for?$99 or something with 2 gigs, for my line i pay an extra $15 for 5 gigs.... So what plan are you guys on where $20 is cheaper?

The classic plan. Also the new android plan only comes with 2GB of unthrottled data. No thank you.

So I'm paying 25 per line right now. Supposed to be unlimited but caps at 5 gigs. I don't have a contract. Is this going to be the same thing but $20 instead?

Wow thanks guys. I called them today and was like give me the plan. The woman was like that just for loyalties I can't add it. So I asked he to transfer me to who can. Then kissed ass when reached that department and was like. I appreciate it and thanks for your time. In the end it all worked out.

Last time I renewed it was $30 for the "unlimited" Android data plan that goes to EDGE after 5GB.
I am calling them today and see if I can get that plan too. I am on the two gig unlimited plan right now. I went over last month and it slowed down so much it was almost unusable. Don't want that to happen again.

Just got off the phone with them and it was a no go for me. They said that plan was not available to me. I even spoke to retention. I wonder if is because I just like two weeks ago signed a new contract so they figure they got me locked in no matter what.

When in doubt or met with resistance, just politely say thank you and hang up... then call and get another customer service rep.
I have 2 accounts with tmobile, one has 5 lines and was there since the voicestream days, and my other account is brand new (2 months old) and i was able to switch lines on both.
Hmmmm OK I will give it a try again tomorrow. They may just give it to me just to keep me feom calling again. LOL

It seems as it is truely unlimited and not 5GB. Either way, it's better than the 2GB I was stuck with before.

I have the $45 SMB value plan with unlimited minutes, messaging, and 5GB full speed cap.
that said when I check the current it states that it is 'unlimited.' I haven't hit the 5GB yet to know if it really does throttle.
I didn't want to lose unlimited data because my kids are old enough to use tablets now and I wanted to have a hotspot in the car. Sprint does not work in my area. I called Verizon and told the rep I wanted 50 off the gs3 32gb.
Then I said I can walk into a store start a new line for 250 and then cancel the line the same day, pay 350 termination fee and be out 600 instead of 650. So please save me the trouble and just give me the 50 off.
I tried 4 times till I got it.
They don't have the ability to discount the phone but they can do a one time credit of 89.99 to your line. So after taxes and the 89.99 discount I paid 600 for the gs3 32 gb for vzw.

I didn't want to lose my unlimited data that I had for my original Dinc either so I added a line to our family plan and got the SGS3 (16gb) at Best Buy for $150 after they price matched wal mart. Then I swapped the SGS3 for an old basic phone (thus removing the data package) and then swapped the new SGS3 for my old Dinc and Voila, new SGS3 for $150 with unlimited data and my brother will just take over the new $10/month line when he moves back home in a couple months. Worked like a charm!!
I did't want to lose my unlimited data either. I was ready to upgrade from my Incredible, but was irritated about the $30 upgrade fee. I called to get the fee waived, but was told that couldn't be done. Instead, I was given a free month of service, which for me is $89.99, plus my $50 ne2 discount. I got a 32 GB for less than $250.00. It's still a lot of money and I had to pay the ridiculous upgrade fee, but I am thrilled to have the SGSIII on an unlimited data plan!
Yeah. Usually when you call and complain they give you credit. However, if you work for a company that gets Verizon discounts you can usually just use your work email and get the activation fees waived

I preorderd the device. On my receipt when I got the phone it said if I cancel within 2 years i could face a etf of up to 175.00. Did anyone else notice?.

Loving my unlimited data plan as wells. I just want to know if I tether a tablet or PC to my GS3 and really start burning some GB over 4G will Verizon see I am tethering by looking at the packets somehow and start dropping the hammer by rate-limiting the device?

I've never had a problem and some guy on the Rezound forums got to 1tb of data so I don't think so.

Link below. Call once you get approved to get activation waived.
Verizonwireless.com/discounts
Or
https://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/support/employee-discount-email
Enjoy
**Edit** Calling is the only way to get fees waived outside of the stores. They usually have to submit the waiver for approval and then authorize it later.

I tried to do that originally but the $10 a mo plans dont exist anymore, no for a non smartphone to share a plan (for my wife who is new to verizon) its $30 a month, the math didnt work
Alright, so currently I have an S3 with T-Mobile and I'm paying around $100 for just my line that includes 500mins, unlimited data and text.
I rarely break the 150min mark each month so I would definitely like to change my plan to something that offers less minutes. Makes no sense on paying for something I don't use, right.
What would be my best option right now? Go on a prepaid plan and buy the Nexus 5 from the playstore? Is there a hassle from switching to a normal plan to a prepaid plan with T-Mobile?
I would be more than happy paying less to get 200mins, unlimited text, and data. 2.5 or 5gb before throttling is fine with me.

The T-Mobile $30 plan.. 100 minutes, unlimited texts, 5GB of 4G LTE.
Just add like $50 every month and you'll have around , what.. 275-300 minutes you can use.
But if you're still on contract with T-Mobile, the ETF is $200.
And yes, you can buy the phone from the Play Store.
Wow that's crazy expensive. My T-Mobile plan is $120/month for 3 lines, unlimited everything. Data IS throttled after 500mb though. Not an issue for me since I'm always on wifi. I can bump it to unlimited for an extra $20

Not sure how you're paying so much for the classic 500min plan, maybe you got extra services along with it? Should only be $85/w tax. And if you said you don't use as much minutes then go with the prepaid $30/mo like that person said. Or you can go with straight talk for $45/mo unlimited talk text and web (might throttle 2.5gb). I'm not sure if they are still selling GSM sim cards because they kept being pulled off the shelves.

Well you're on the new simple/value plans that T-mobile has. 3 lines should cost you $90 ($50 first line $30 second $10 add a line) for unlimited talk text and unlimited web throttled at 500mb. You might be over paying as well unless you have the 2.5gb data plan or the jump plan services.

Unfortunately I am over paying by $30. I didn't get the simple value plan. I switched from AT&T right before they ended the classic unlimited contracts. What really sucks is the T-Mobile service went to **** in my area a few days after my "2 week trial period" (that was really maybe a week after getting the phones shipped and activated) and they refuse to help me out in any way. It's a story for another time, but I'm absolutely furious at T-Mobile.
I got the Ptel Paygo plan (on T-Mobile network), I don't really need data (on wifi almost everywhere, with T-Mobile 4G hotspot at $17.50/mo for 1.75gb). 5 cents per minute. Bought a $100 card with coupon for $78, so 2000 minutes for a year. Haven't got my sim yet, will run speed test once I get it.

Yeah, I think I'm being charged $8 or $10 for insurance on the phone.
How exactly do pre paid plans work? I assume the bill won't arrive to my house anymore? Do I have to to to the T-Mobile store before the month ends to pay for the following month before it gets disconnected?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Also if I were to sign up for the pre paid plan. Could I bring the phone to a T-Mobile store and could they activate the new sim at the store or do I have to do it myself online?
Thank you for the responses everyone, i really appreciate it.

That's unfortunate, sorry to hear. So you're on a 2-year contract then I suppose? Did you get basic phones or smart phones when you signed up? If anything you can always try to call customer service (Dial 611) and ask to be switched to the new simple choice plan but they might charge you a $200 migration fee per line. In that situation, you can probably argue that your service has not been working well ever since you got it and hopefully they'll work something out.

The only service that does that still bills to your house is T-Mobile Family Mobile (only in walmart) $39.88/mo unlimited talk text unlimited web 2.5 throttle (3G, some say 4G). That service is no contract and you can set auto pay with your debit/credit card or pay at any walmart location.
Other T-mobile pre-paid services is the "monthly 4G" which you will need to purchase a pre-paid card at any convenience store and refill your service at the end of each month. Or you can pay the balance of the bill online through T-Mobile prepaid website. If you don't pay your remaining balance by the end of the month it will get shut off and I believe T-Mobile will hold for 7-14 days before they release the number.
I can't give you a suggestion on which service you should use because I use both Verizon and T-Mobile services (note 2 and nexus 5) on a dealer line. Believe it or not, T-Mobile pulls off 21mb vs verizon 12mb in my home. If anything i'd start with the $30 pre-paid plan and test out the service to see whether or not it works in your area. If you feel that you get a lot of drop calls, you can try the actual T-Mobile service (Simple choice plan) because it's running on a primary network. Don't want to get too technical on why contracts vs pre-paid services are good or bad.
Replying to your second question:
You can purchase a Sim starter kit on the actual T-mobile site and you can activate it yourself, very easy. Follow the steps and select the plan that you desire.

I will attempt to do this over the weekend. I am on a 2 year contract. When we signed up, I got a Galaxy S3, an LG F3, and an LG F6.
Since we started, none of the phones will reliably get phone calls or text messages. More often than not when people try to call us (even the T-Mobile reps calling me back) the phone will ring on their end, but I never get a ring or even missed call notification. A voice-mail will randomly pop up later in the day. Text messages will stop for hours on end then all of a sudden 10 or so will come to my phone at once. MMS won't reliably send or download. It's been a FRUSTRATING experience to say the least.
