[REF] List of apps that work with Nexus Player - Nexus Player General

I've been scouring through the apps that I want on my Nexus Player trying to find out which ones need to be sideloaded and which ones will/won't work if sideloaded. To save all of us some time, I thought that I'd just post my findings here. Please post anything beyond this list that you find and I'll update the list accordingly.
Can't find your sideloaded apps? See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/help/sideloaded-apps-t2948785
This list is being moved and maintained in a publicly viewable Google Docs Spreadsheet: http://goo.gl/ZGVqpp

Side loading or threw the PC play store?

XBMC installs and works beautifully. I tried the non-plexpass Plex app. It installs and puts an icon on the home screen. Have to activate w/ a pin. After activation it says it found my server right away but nothing actually ever shows up. It will eventually let you in to the settings screen but thats about it. Im thinking this is being blocked by the guys up at Plex for non plex pass subscribers. Installed the NFL GamePass APK from my phone. It installs and runs but the sign on and game selection screen is stuck in portrait. Also requires a mouse to click on anything. Once the feed starts though it swtiches to landscape and plays fine (GP subscription required. DNS service required if inside the US). Maybe the tablet version will work better but i bet you still need a mouse to select anything. Thats all for now. Just got it today and the kid is taking over for a minion rush session.
PS all sideloaded

Google search , material browser, MX player beta. All work side loaded.
Sent from my Nexus 5

Thanks to bunchie and chainfire I was able to sideload limelight root and so far it works great. Had to set it up once then reboot the NP and now streaming works great.

I was also having issues with the non-plexpass Plex app, but I was able to sideload the newest version of the Plex for android app using es file explorer, and now it is working great! It even has the new android TV interface layout!

OK I was just asking for the interest of the topic so everyone knows how to get said apps

OK. I THINK Limelight works. I was able to install it through web Play store, Icon shows up on the home screen. App launches and sees my PC but I am getting handshake failures when I try to connect. I tried to connect on my phone and got the same errors so I think this is more a config/PC issue than the app. But man, if I can get this to work this is going to be a whole new time waster for me. I can stream my PC games to ANY TV IN MY HOUSE!?!?!?! Oh man...
EDIT: Yup, fixed it. Steam update disabled the beta option required for this? I dunno but after enabling it it works great! Plays very nicely w/ the game pad. Full PC games streamed to my NP. I'm going back to the play store to order 2 more for the other rooms in my house.

Probably not allowed. . But get your popcorn ready. . Works great with mouse.

Popcorn time has been randomly turning off for me not sure why..

Still having trouble with this. I pulled the latest APK off my phone (3.6.2.267) and I can log in and it works great, but I noticed it doesnt place an icon on the home screen or in the sideload launcher. The only way I can launch it is to go to settings->apps and open it from there. What version of the APK are you using?

I also installed Plex through es file explorer and it is awesome!
It doesn't show up on the home screen for me but that's okay.

How are you launching it? For me it doesnt show on home screen or in the launcher.

Can also confirm slingplayer for tablets is working for me. Very handy as you won't need cable boxes everywhere.

I go to settings then scroll over to apps and its in there.

Just sideloaded Plex APK (non Plex Pass) and its working perfectly!!!
I pretty much followed the instructions on how to load XBMC and uploaded APK to Google Drive... Working great.
So happy right now.

I sideloaded, Advanced task manager, archos (shows on main apps panel), LiveNow!TV, and Speed Test (by V-SPEED.eu) and they all work.

What steaming apps work (HBOGo, Directv, etc)??

I just purchased the MK808B and will have it delivered tomorrow. I was curious what to expect with steaming apps. I live in a condo that doesn't allow more than basic cable so I currently use my PS3 to watch movies from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Crackle. I was curious if other apps work like Directv Everywhere, Max Go, Showtime Anytime, etc??
As far as games go what controller do most of you use? I bought the Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 to use for now but I assume I'll want a good game controller.

My MD808B arrived today. I bought it through Amazon from Geekbuying. It did come pre-rooted. It's a very fast device that operates with little to no lag. Not the my pleasing (to the eye) homescreen but not bad. I hooked up my Logitech K400 keyboard and was off and running within a minute or two. As I mentioned in my first post my main focus was on the streaming apps. I went to Netflix first, the play store downloaded a table version of Netflix and it ran with no problem at all. I generally use my PS3 and there is a noticeable difference in quality. The MK808B looks much closer to the SD while the PS3 has a nice HD pic. I have limited speed here (about 3MB down) so that isn't helping.
Up next I went to HBOGo. It works as well. The only problem was when you go to the login screen you can't see the text boxes once the onscreen keyboard pops up. Outside of that it seems to work well. Quality is about the same as I get from my laptop, which isn't great but acceptable.
Maybe the most important to me is Directv Everywhere. The app downloaded, fired up quickly and searched moved quickly as well. However I can't get anything to play. It just has a circle in the middle of the screen as if it's buffering. I'll keep working on this one because it's so important to me but I'm not very optimistic.
Crackle's app is small and downloaded with no problem. It's not the easiest to navigate but it did work and the streaming quality was similar to the PS3, not HD but "ok".
I tried Hulu, as most of you know it didn't work. Saying it was't supported on this device.
MaxGo downloaded and starts up with no problem. However when I try to sign in it keeps going back to the main page and without signing in you can't watch the shows/movies.
Redbox Instant doesn't work if you're rooted but there easy work around is to the turn off the superuser features in the SU app. Once I did that I was able to use Redbox but the quality was below average and it buffered repeatedly. At this point it's not usable for me.
As for games I tried a few and so far only Angry Birds works for my setup. Others like Swat FT were impossible because of how it's designed. Temple Run 2 wouldn't start because you can't click on "Play". Real Basketball wouldn't allow me to click on start or click to close the game.
Well it's early and I'm not giving up on the device but right now I would have to say it's far from ready for prime time. It certainly serves a purpose and I'm sure there are ways to make the most out of it but it's more work than I had hoped. Back to more testing!

[Q]Stream non steam game?

Hello
I don't use steam. I bought games in store.
Is that possible to stream non steam game?
i haven't gotten mine yet but last i heard it either has to be detected in GFE or you can add non-steam games thru steam.
If you add a non-Steam game to your Steam Library (which is very simple and you can find out how to here), you can play it on the Shield by launching Steam in big picture mode. I've done it with a couple games, such as Hawken.

Can you run an emulator on the PC and stream it to Nvidia shield in this manner? I was thinking of emulators that maybe don't run too well on android but do so on the PC.

It's not working for me. I have the shortcuts setup and work fine in big picture mode without the shield. But when the shield is streaming and I go to launch a gamecube game, nothing happens.....
Other non-steam shortcuts work fine on my Shield, like Halo 2. How are your shortcuts setup?

2 ways to link gamecube roms to shield.
Method 1 is to use a batch file or some other script which launches dolphin with your rom, find a utility to compile it to an exe (steam will only trigger EXE files) and set steam to load that. I never got any of the old batch to exe utilities working but did get ironPython working to do the same.
Method 2. Just set steam to open dolphin and manually select a ROM. Probably wont work for big picture (I havent tried nor do I own a shield)

Funny enough, the batch file isn't working for me....
But just opening dolphin does, using the touchscreen to select a game with the mouse.

I had a friend who had a reasonable amount of success with the batch file option. Steam will only open EXE files normally so you do have to find a batch to EXE tool, but the only ones I can find now are either confirmed malware ridden, broken on modern versions of windows or both.
The basis of the method is you write a batch file which simply calls [path to dolphin] [path to rom] on the command line, when its run it should fire up dolphin with that rom no problem.
I did get ironPython to open Chrome on my PC once, steam was then able to call the ironPython EXE fine.
Did find a 3rd method last night. Add dolphin.exe to steam. Right click it, go into properties, add the path to your rom as a command line option. Limits you to 1 rom though and I couldnt get steam to let me add dolphin to steam multiple times without copying multiple instances of dolphin onto my computer.
Seems like the regular open dolphin > select game from shield method might be best for now.
Will be great when the dolphin for android port is complete, that is if the shield can run it (shields powerful but you do need a fair old amount of power to emulate a gamecube)
No Sound

Your top apps

Hi everyone.
Seems like the forum for the Z4 tablet are a bit slow and not that popular, hopefully it will change in the near future
I thought we could start a "top apps" thread where you list the top applications you use on your tablet to share it with others.
The apps I use the most is:
Plex: Client app to the Plex Server running on my computer for all my streaming needs.
TED: Look and listen to lectures and conferences.
Amazon Kindle: Well, for all those e-books.
Perfect Viewer: For all your comic needs.
Heavens-Above: Great app for stargazing.
What do you do on your tablet?
Cheers
Good idea!
I'll just copy one of yours: Kindle- most convenient eBook reader out there.
Reddit Sync- for all that Redditing goodness in a beautiful tablet format
MX Player- I heard VLC was good, but MX Player has run fine for years. Perfect for watching movies or anything.
Netflix
MightyText- for when you can't put down your tablet but need to text!
Flight Control- oldie but a goldie
Top Apps:
- FloatingApps (For multiwindow since my machine isn't rooted)
- Whatsapp (LTE Version)
- Cloud Magic (Email)
- Vain Glory (MOBA game)
-Flight radar 24 (Flight tracker)
- Office Suite
- Icon Changer
- SplashTop HD
GMD Full Screen Immersive Mode (get rid of the pesky, screen real estate consuming softkeys)
All in one Gestures (use gestures / hardware buttons for navigation)
Nova Launcher Prime (best launcher)
Helium - App Sync and Backup (no-root backup solution)
Hacker's Keyboard (suits me best on a tablet)
Roundme (great 360 degrees panoramas)

help with hulu on tv box

Solved!
Hey, i recently purchased a nexbox a95x tv box.
but i have one issue the supplied remote does not work with hulu, it works with keyboard and mouse or the mouse button on the remote but that is slow.
The hulu app for fire tv works with the fire tv remote so it should be possible on a tv box, although the fire remote isnt i.r.
The box has android 5.1 with root i believe, if anybody has any suggestions that would be great.
I have another on order, that i am looking to develope a bit with, android 6.0 with leanback hopefully...
___
Update:
I found the reason hulu will not work, the hulu downloaded from play store is the touch version
Went and downloaded Hulu for android tv and all is great, now onto more enjoyable things...
