Ok i have exactly same problems and it drive me crazy. Any ideas whats going on and how to fix it?
I'm also experiencing the same problem
If I set any default ringtone, the phone (Nexus5) uses it without problems... but if I try to set another MP3 file (I formerly used in KitKat 4.4.4 successfully) it is "set" as ringtone, but a small "error beep" sounds instead of the configured mp3 file.
Reproducing the error is simple, just set a standard ringtone and clic the "ringtone volume" slider to change the volume... you'll hear the ringtone without problems. If you set another ringtone (using Rings Extended or similar) it is correctly set, but changing the volume reproduces the mentioned "beep" instead of the ringtone.
This is not such a big deal... I can set a standard ringtone until this gets fixed... but it is in fact an annoying bug.
Ringtone Problem
I updated my nexus 5 to lollipop. My ringtone changed to some unknow ringtone. Only some beep sound comes when a call comes. I am not able to change the ringtone. It stays the same beep evenwhen i change it. Niether custom nor default ringtone. Default ringtones are all vanished i cant even see the. What to doo! This is really irritating.
Working fine for me, although I flashed the factory image and set my phone up from scratch...

I installed the OTA image myself (via adb) but did not factory-restore the phone... doing so would help in solving this issue?

Honestly couldn't say - possibly. If you're going to do a reset, obviously backup any important info first of all

I would wipe cache, and factory reset from the recovery menu. This has cleared up a number of issues.

I'm thinking about doing so...
I'll give you some feedback in case I get enough spare time to try this out
Thanks!!
same
i have the exact same issue...cleared the cache but no dice...if anyone has a fix it would be much appreciated
Faced the same issue and Google brought me here. I would only get the default ring tone or vibrate when a custom mp3 was selected on my stock Nexus 5 on 5.0.1 (OTA). Here's the fix that seems to have worked for me:
Settings > Apps > All Apps > Media Storage > Clear Cache & Defaults
Then I went into Sounds & Notifications and ensured my mp3 ringtone was set as the default. In the process I selected Media Storage as the default provider of file services (over ES). Then I went into the individual contacts and reset each to the proper mp3.
Hope this helps.

I don't have the problem since 5.0.1, I think they fixed it.
I have the problem on both mine and my wife's phone.
My phone:
1. previously flashed 5.0.0 and OTA to 5.0.1
2. just tried flashed 5.0.1 factory images and its the same
Wife's phone:
1. OTA from 4.4 to 5.0.0 then 5.0.1
I tried with both OGG and MP3.
We are using airdroid.
Try copying or moving the sound file to the Ringtones folder/directory and rebooting. If the file is not too large it should show in in the list of available ringtones.

The ringtones does show up, and in the ringtone selector, it does play properly, However, it doesn't play when a voice call comes in. :|
I too face the same problem... Any solutions yet?
Previously I use AirDroid to transfer the ringtones.
I just install ES Explorer, copy it to /sdcard, then when selecting ringtone, choose ES File Explorer again, and pick the file. Works!
This will help.
I also had this same problem
I am having a moto G 2. Same problem occurred to me after updating. All you need to do is to paste the custom ringtone to Phone/Ringtones folder. Then select it from settings. VOILA. It'll work. :fingers-crossed:
Note: Don't copy it in Memory Card

I came here to look for a solution to this problem after upgrading to Lollipop and rings Extended no longer working. The above "quoted" worked for me on my Galaxy S5.
Move the ringtone to Device Storage/Ringtones and then select it in sound settings.
Move the notification sound you want to Device Storage/Notifications and select it in sound settings.
You can then uninstall Rings Extended as it is no longer needed. :good:

Hi, have 2 new Samsung nexus S (for myself and my wife), trying to install on both the CM7 after everything formated and cleaned and for the 3rd time after awhile of working (few minutes) the download from anywhere is failing - in the market every download sends an error that media process is failing and then the download is stuck (happening also in any download).
Totally weird since I've tried all of the clearance, format, SD card options and phone configurations. could be i have 2 faulty Nexus S? any one knows this error?
Thanks!

have you tried fixing permissions? in the terminal app on your phone(included in cm) type...
su(press enter)
fix_permissions(press enter)
also, if you have root explorer, delete the app files in /cache/download/
yeap, have been there, wiped also all cache

wiping cache doesnt wipe this. you got to manually delete those files if they are in that folder.
also..
go to main settings, applications, manage applications, all, download manager, clear data/cache.
yes i know i've just mentioned what i did so far... seems like an hardware error but it is happening on 2 devices!, all downloads are failing, many programs error and sounds are not there when trying to chose rings / sms

stupid question.. have you tried redownloading the rom and gapps, then flashing them again?
yes
for 3 time. installing CM7, then GAPPS, then switching to Hebrew, working with the device for awhile then its beginning...
i'll try to track the things i do now to see what can cause it.
I think the problem could be compatibility, just found that my devices are I9023 model and not the I9020 that probably the roms are built on..
When booting into bootloader i see device id is I9020 while it should be I9023 as i see in the back of my my device (behind the battery) could be that causing problems?
Hey Everyone,
I was rooted before and I had ARHD 4.0X and it was working fine.
I superwiped and got ARHD 6.0.X , but the stock music software can't find any music file from my sd card and add them to library.
This also happend to contacts while it was not able to find v-card backups in my SD card.....
I almost tried all the ICS roms out there , same problem.
there was this wifi problem, it turned out to be cuz of my service provider, a little script solved it,
and I am so like this :
can anyone help me ?
Fix permissions thats what fixed it for me
sorry, I am kindda new to this whole android world, permissions ? are we talking about some file access permissions ? would you please light me up a lil ?
I think he means to boot into your recovery and choose the "Fix Permissions" option.
doesn't work i'm afraid
Have you tried the "clear data" option within Settings, Apps?
Worked for me when I had the same issue.
My OnePlus One has been working fine for two weeks and all of a sudden ive gotten this problem. The sound on the phone doesn't work and neither do YouTube videos. A popup comes up and says "unfortunately, AudioFX has stopped". i press OK but the popup comes back instantly making it virtually impossible to use the phone. this is really frustrating!! please help. before this happened i was trying to do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/speakerphone-volume-low-calls-t2801938
You messed it up, revert back to the stock file. Find the stock file if you didn't back it up.

You said that you were trying the changes from that thread. That thread consist of you changing the mixer_paths.xml file. Upon going in there, you probably changed something that wasn't supposed to be changed or messed up the formatting.
In fact now that I think about it, just go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/mod-volume-increase-mod-oneplus-one-t2835010 and flash one of the mods. Do note that it doesn't have the earpiece volume change but it will fix your audiofx and will play sound without force closes.
I have had this problem and fixed it multiple times...
The problem is, that for some reason the stock file editor sometimes does not save the full file, then starts crashing, etc. Other file editors seem to work ok.
By the way this can also happen for some reasonwhen applying icon packs or themes.
Now the good part - you can fix it without even loosing you data. You need to flash only the system partition from the stock image. Follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
But in step 3 apply the command: fastboot flash system system.img
Skip the rest of the steps and apply: fastboot reboot.
You can get adb and the Android SDK tools to use here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
I disabled AudioFX altogether with Titanium Backup I prefer Viper4android.
I managed to get this set up somehow the first time, but I've just clean-installed Superman 1.15 and I'm stuck again.
I've copied all my desired audio files into system/media/audio/notifications and system/media/audio/ringtones. I've selected each manually through the 'add file from storage' option when setting the ringtone.
WhatsApp displays all my custom sounds except the one I want to use for WhatsApp. No other apps show any of my custom sounds at all.
How do I fix this? And why can't I get root with ES File Explorer anymore?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/fix-es-file-explorer-root-error-t3382537
I tried copying everything (which was 294 files, not 7) from bin to xbin. Still doesn't work.
Got the notification/ringtone sounds working, though. Although as last time, I have no idea how I did it.
EDIT: Had to update Superman again, and now all my custom notifications have disappeared except in WhatsApp. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS WORKS ANYMORE.
So it seems I may have accidentally selected the Huawei phone manager app (with the battery profiles and other things) when batch deleting a few things... USA phone running android 7/EMUI 5. Could someone make a backup of their app and post it here?
Normally I wouldn't bother but it appears that I can't view battery stats or change an app's notification settings or exempt them from being closed while the phone is locked without this app.
Thanks.
Here it is, this is for BLN-L21C432, EMUI 5.0.1; it could be possible that it won't work, though.
Thank you but unfortunately that did not work. Trying to install it gave the error "corrupt apk" and moving it into the folder where it belongs didn't do anything at all.
Tried factory reset? It may just reset everything and bring this back, if not can go for dload method which will restore this.

As i thought... Share your build number, maybe another user with the same build can share an apk that'll works
