[Q] Disable keyboard suggestions when clicking a word - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, is there any way to disable suggestions when clicking a misspelled word on Android 5? It displays a sort of list with words that drives me nuts. I don't want to disable suggestions, as I like the bar on top of the keyboard with predictions. On Kitkat this did not happen, I guess there must be someway.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Disable word suggestion when typing?

Seems to be the culprit of the lag. Any way of turning this off?
I think that's associated with the "ASUS keyboard". If you make "Android keyboard" the active input method, there's no suggstions.
Settings>language and input>whichever keyboard you are using>settings>word suggestion settings ... uncheck the ones you dont want.
Suggestion can be good sometimes, only when it's names or abbreviated words does it screw up. I wish there was a way to add words that aren't in the suggestion so next time it doesn't mess up.

I thought that's what the "user dictionary" was for? Maybe that's only good for the correction piece.

You can add words to the custom dictionary by long-pressing the word as spelled at the left of the suggestions list when using thumb keyboard. This action didn't seem to work with the ASUS keyboard though.
Turning off the settings in language input options does not help...I still see the suggestions, any work around to keep the suggestions off?
oh--it works whe i turned off asus keyboard after carefully reading the post again----thanks

[Q] Keyboard text suggestions

Hi all,
I am having a problem with keyboard suggestions. I type the word that is not an "English word", and then I tap on the word, tap on the "plus" to add it to my text suggestion library. Then i try to type that same word once more, and I can't find it in the text suggestion ribbon.
Am I doing something wrong? It seems to me that text suggestion doesn't work with any other language except in the ones that are supported by WP7. Am I right?
Any help would be appreciated

Predictive Text Settings

Question about settings for the stock samsung keyboard...
I'm using the stock rom (rooted) and the stock samsung keyboard.
I like having the phone offer up suggestions for words I'm typing in, but I DON'T like to have the phone auto correct my actual typing. I want to select a suggested word myself or use the one I typed the way I typed it if I don't physically select a suggestion.
However, the way it is now, if predictive text is on, the phone wants to auto correct my typing... such that if I want to use a word the way I typed it, I have to select it to override the one the phone picked as the predicted text.
Is there a way to keep the suggestions but turn off the auto correct? The only option I saw was to turn off predictive text and that turns everything off so that you don't even get any suggestions.
Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
Stock keyboard brings the suck, don't it. I swapped 'er out for the jellybean keyboard in the play store and been thrilled with it.

I love this phone but [email protected] the stock keyboard is horrible (to me). When I misspell a word and backspace to correct a letter or more it fills in with a whole other word on top of the letters that I didn't delete. It's not very friendly when it comes to quick typing simply because it is always replacing my words, correctly spelled and all, with their own suggestion.

I am not at all affiliated, just stoked on it. And its free cause I'm cheap.

Turn off spell check?

In many apps, when you type into an input box android will underscore mistyped words with a line. The problem is when typing in a different language, Spanish for example, it will underline every single word even if spelled correctly and it's kind of annoying. I know the language can be changed but it's really not feasible to go an change the system language every time I type something.
This feature is essentially not needed since every keyboard app, including LG's own has built-in spell-check and spelling suggestions. The G3 and G4 had an option to turn off native spell check but I can't seem to find it on the V10. I wonder which genius at LG decided to remove this option.

Thanks, but the keyboard feature is actually the feature I do want. I was referring to the actual input box, in certain apps the system underlines words that it thinks are spelled incorrectly, akin to how desktop computer underlines typos.
See attached photo.

Go Language & keyboard -> LG Keyboard -> Auto Correction -.> off (if you have multiple languages setting for your keyboard, there would be choice for each language)

Google Keyboard Shortcuts

I like google keyboard (sliding mode) very much, but I can not find the way to disable shortcuts on "comma". If you slide over comma in a "wrong" way, you get either XY, Youtube or something else. This drives me crazy and I have to correct my sentences all the time. How to turn this off? Google has no feedback, no support for keyboard, no reply on a google play store... Anyone, please help! Thank you
I hate this too, sometime i just want to make fun by typing wrong word and then keyboard seriously auto-correct it. Try this:
On stock Android, go to Settings.
Next, scroll down a bit until you see the Language & input tab, and tap on it.
Now, tap on Google Keyboard.
Text correction...
And there you go - you can disable auto correction by tapping on that toggle.
