Best place to sell - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi, I have a metal grey HTC One M8. I had it about 5 months and a couple days ago it met its fate over a disagreement with my girlfriend... So with that being said the screen has ONE long crack in it. Other than that its in working condition. It's on the current 4.4.4. firmware with a Unlocked Bootloader and S-off. Where would be the best place to sell this? This is my first time selling a smartphone, so im kind of lost here...

Swappa (link above, xda approved) best value but not sure if they accept cracked screens. Craigslist is fastest way, see what others are going for and compete. If it were me, I would buy lcd on amazon, fix and either use or sell for way more value and make up the cost of replacing the lcd.

You can do this too, but I would recommend glyde and usell. You can sell used phones and also buy used phones on those websites

+1 .. be sure to ask them to send you a free shipping label too! they are very good about getting it replaced. Make sure before you call you downgrade and lock and s-on first! They can see that too if your phone is online!

Thats where I screwed up... I RUUed and everything got everything back to stock, BUT forgot to S-on and lock the Bootloader. So they gladly voided my warranty... I'm not to mad though My memory has gotten me in worse situations. EX. Going to and ATM to withdraw money just to leave the money in the dispenser!!!

You already did this or called them up on the phone today and they said this? I would restore it to 4.4.3 and locked and s-on. They cannot void physical warranty like this because you were s-off. When you call them back tell them you want the six month warranty glass replacement. Don't even bring up s status or unlock status. If they do tell them it's 100% stock.

If HTC was going to replace a phone or screen under warranty and pay for shipping, it would be something I would s-on for. I would put it on an os and firmware combo that is exploitable by sunshine hoping they wouldn't upgrade it. If they do upgrade, you would have to wait (in this case) for sunshine 3.0.

Swappa is the best way to go. I have bought many phones from there and even when there's an issue, the seller is more often than not pretty understanding and the Swappa staff is top notch with customer service.

thnx...ciao
Long story short, when there is a result, it will be all over. I would go so far to say as even if there is a small hurdle overcome... it will be the top thread on every Android forum.
Very true. I got screwed with a RC30 phone too, so I have to wait as well. I'm sure with time, someone will find a way. Of course if you don't like waiting, you can always buy a dev phone.
Or better yet get a replacement phone. I had a bum trackball on my old one, got my replacement and it came with rc29 on it. I'm now running rc30 rooted.
I'm past T-Mobile's grace period. Is it possible to get a replacement? My keys are all bashed in.
What was the cause of it, dropped it? If you dropped it then probably no chance. You can always call and ask them if there is anything they can do, its worth a shot! I had my old one since the g1 first came out and no problems returning it for me.

I called them (HTC, T-Mobile said they couldn't help because I didn't have my original contract with them ) and they said they were going to "repair" my "problem."
So a repair won't do, a replacement is the only option for us.

HTC has an obligation to repair/replace the device under the 1 year warranty regardless of whether you bought the phone on or off contract. Problem is, you cant submit a claim directly through HTC, only T-Mobile.

What should I do?

STORY TIME !
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the situation, today I went golfing and put my Gatorade and my one s in the same pouch in the golf bag. Long story short my One s was thirsty and got some Gatorade spilled on it. Everything works except the button back lights and the microphone. Im leaving my phone in a ziplock baggy over-night with uncooked rice. (It worked a lot with my iPod!) And my phone was rooted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUESTION?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.) If the Htc One s mic and button lights never come on, should I report it lost for warranty purposes and get a new one? Because once you root your phone's warranty is void.
2.) If the Htc One s mic and button lights never come on, should I still turn it in to t-mobile, even though if i return it to stock it ill say "RELOCKED"? And they would know.
3.) Would they know you rooted it if you report it stolen? Because all they know is I requested a unlock code, but they don't know if you used it? (Or do they)
4.) Or should I just report it lost but choose to go with the Samsung galaxy nexus or save my money for an Samsung s3?

Geezz so many questions lol
First try to get a replacement from T-Mobile, but make sure you didn't damage white sticker on back of micro cover. (Usually they ask you this).
If they do offer replacement. Unroot and relock bootlooder. Trust me, I sent my rooted phone for s replacement and they never called.

Why? HTC has 2 years warranty and will do it for free till the next MAY at least. If you request it NOW, it's unlikely they'll ask for a proof of purchase (they didn't ask me)
So your warranty isn't void then?

And for the record, many Sensations did ship from the factory with S-off. So they have no possible way to prove you did it yourself.
Plus it's probably more expensive for them to argue about your software changes when you send in a hardware problem than it is to just fix the hardware problem. Especially since it's a known hardware problem that HTC fully admits to.
That said, there are numerous stories of people who've sent fully rooted phones to HTC with custom ROMs installed to have hardware problems fixed and the phone came back repaired just fine.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get your phone back from the time you send it to them?
In the Netherlands HTC has repair partners all over the country. I went in one of the shops and 1 hour later they called that my new screen was installed. Did not ask anything or check my phone.
I would assume that sending in a phone for this problem wouldn't matter if you're rooted since software can't get dust under your screen.

Esecailly since it's so incredibly easy to flash a stock ROM before sending it in which would mean they'd never notice something wasn't stock.
Yeahthe aftermarket recovery might still be there and it might be S-Off but I doubt the guy sitting at his desk fixing 25 phones a day is goign to notice those things when he's replacing a screen gasket to seal out dust. Now if he booted it and it said CYANOGENMOD and lacked Sense, it might stand out to him...
Also, did anyone know the answer to my last question? About how long it takes to get a phone back from HTC with the screen dust issue repaired? I'm in the USA as I assume where you start from makes a difference. Like the post above that says in the Netherlands there are shops that will fix it in an hour...I don't think I can do that here.

minus the shipping to get there (which you can change) for me its been about 3 days from them receiving it to them having it in repair to them getting ready to ship, dont know though if the screen is repaired but i did mention it as one of many things faulty with the device
This problem also started to develop on my phone. I wish we have repairs stores around the area I live (I also live in the US).
One question, do I have to pay for the shipping fee to ship the phone to them?

yes you do
also and this very important, ship it in a box specifically made to ship small electronic items (was going to shiping it in something else) as they can void your warranty for breakage when shipping, thankfully i was told that before shipping the actual device so there was not much a problem...

Sending for repairs

Hi,
I want to send my unlocked device in to have the dust under the screen removed and the bezel glued down properly. It is 2 months old. My question:
Is there anything i should do or ask or mention before sending it in?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
Hmm... They will probably try to charge you as you are unlocked
How did you get dust under the screen?
They'll probably change the motherboard, preventing you from unlocking, and charge your for that, too. :silly:

Sorry mine and Marty's comments were a bit sarcastic. You probably won't lose your unlock status for removing the dust unless they replace the motherboard as part of that process.
I'd ask Asus what is involved first. Don't take our words about what they will or won't do

Indeed my remark was sarcastic -- and sbdags is absolutely right: your lock status will not change as long as they keep their hands off your motherboard. Seeing that your screen is the problem, I'd be surprised if they had to work on that. Even if they do, you'd have a case to take to them and get it fixed.
If the main board in the device is not being replaced to touched, the bootloader will not be relocked. They have no reason to relock it if all you are doing is getting the screen sent cleaned out. Even if the screen was replaced, there's not reason to relock the bootloader. Now, if the main board had to be changed, than yes; new main board = locked bootloader on new one.
Now, I'm not sure where you're from, but here in the US, unlocking the bootloader would void the warranty. Even a defective screen would not be covered once you unlock it. The warranty is taken as whole. I've heard that this is not true in the EU, but I am not 100% sure as I do not know the region's warranty policies.
I would call and ask. And if they can make an RMA for you, it doesn't hurt to request that they do not relock it.

I'm from South Africa. I'll have to try my best to speak to a technician directly because here, most of the people that I will have to deal with via phone or email probably don't even know what an "OS" is, if asked
Thanx for the advice
Hey bro,
I made a post on this section about my Tf700 not turning. + my bootloader was unlocked.
I emailed the Asus RMA department for RMA#, they told me that it was 65$ for labour fee + Material charges.
SO i just sent it in, kinda getting mad about dying on me suddenly.
After 2 days, they sent my tf700 back, they locked my boot loader (I thiink. New part # was 90R-Ok0QMB20000Y, Main_BD). Main board?
They didn't charge me anything. They sent it through purolator express for free. Everything free of charge.
I expected to do pay something but it was all free even though my bootloader was unlocked AND email CRS told me that fee was 100%.

Stock images?

Do we have access to the official M8 images yet for going back to full stock? I'm not planning on it yet, but I prefer having the ability to do so before starting to flash custom ROM's/kernels (which will hopefully start appearing soon). I haven't seen anything about this yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're not around.

HTC will fix the screen for you for free. And they don't care about s-off. They know that's not why the screen broke. And if you went the insurance route, Assurion doesn't even check for device modifications. I've sent 3 devices to assurion for insurance replacements that had custom roms installed and they didn't say anything. Two of those had broken screens.
I went thru Verizon. I'll have to check with them on the plan. I assume it is Assurion and not HTC, but I am not sure. Guess I can call rather than going into the store. Good to know they don't care about the software for such an obvious hardware (user created) problem. Most annoying- I have a case with a cover on the phone. Just the way I was holding it and the darn thing hit the ground (tile) face first. Thanks for the advice.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I don't think you are quite following.
What they are saying is that HTC will replace the screen once no matter if you have insurance or not. It is one of the things HTC is trying to do to differentiate themselves from other vendors.
After I posted I realized I may have misunderstood. I remembered hearing something about HTC's screen replacement policy, but it's just so damn consumer friendly that I must have blocked it out. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for telling me so obviously. I am most definitely having a Monday. Ugh. Here's to a better Tuesday.
