Stock images? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Do we have access to the official M8 images yet for going back to full stock? I'm not planning on it yet, but I prefer having the ability to do so before starting to flash custom ROM's/kernels (which will hopefully start appearing soon). I haven't seen anything about this yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're not around.

Once you S-off and toss on CWM, make a backup. Simple as that.

S-off this AM. Dropped phone this PM. Anyone know how I can get back to S-on & relock the bootloader? I actually paid for insurance thus time so want to get the screen, which shattered, fixed.

You have the HTC Advantage with the HTC One which means you get a free screen replacement from them, so no insurance deductible - http://www.htc.com/us/go/advantage/.

HTC will fix the screen for you for free. And they don't care about s-off. They know that's not why the screen broke. And if you went the insurance route, Assurion doesn't even check for device modifications. I've sent 3 devices to assurion for insurance replacements that had custom roms installed and they didn't say anything. Two of those had broken screens.

I went thru Verizon. I'll have to check with them on the plan. I assume it is Assurion and not HTC, but I am not sure. Guess I can call rather than going into the store. Good to know they don't care about the software for such an obvious hardware (user created) problem. Most annoying- I have a case with a cover on the phone. Just the way I was holding it and the darn thing hit the ground (tile) face first. Thanks for the advice.

I don't think you are quite following.
What they are saying is that HTC will replace the screen once no matter if you have insurance or not. It is one of the things HTC is trying to do to differentiate themselves from other vendors.

After I posted I realized I may have misunderstood. I remembered hearing something about HTC's screen replacement policy, but it's just so damn consumer friendly that I must have blocked it out. I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for telling me so obviously. I am most definitely having a Monday. Ugh. Here's to a better Tuesday.

No worries! I hope your get it worked out, and sorry for your bad luck....
Out of curiosity, did you have a case on it?

STORY TIME !
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the situation, today I went golfing and put my Gatorade and my one s in the same pouch in the golf bag. Long story short my One s was thirsty and got some Gatorade spilled on it. Everything works except the button back lights and the microphone. Im leaving my phone in a ziplock baggy over-night with uncooked rice. (It worked a lot with my iPod!) And my phone was rooted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUESTION?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.) If the Htc One s mic and button lights never come on, should I report it lost for warranty purposes and get a new one? Because once you root your phone's warranty is void.
2.) If the Htc One s mic and button lights never come on, should I still turn it in to t-mobile, even though if i return it to stock it ill say "RELOCKED"? And they would know.
3.) Would they know you rooted it if you report it stolen? Because all they know is I requested a unlock code, but they don't know if you used it? (Or do they)
4.) Or should I just report it lost but choose to go with the Samsung galaxy nexus or save my money for an Samsung s3?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE ^^ AND/OR OFFER DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS!
Geezz so many questions lol
First try to get a replacement from T-Mobile, but make sure you didn't damage white sticker on back of micro cover. (Usually they ask you this).
If they do offer replacement. Unroot and relock bootlooder. Trust me, I sent my rooted phone for s replacement and they never called.

I checked, the sticker is black. They don't care if I relock and reflash the 1.84 ruu?
Where do you find this sticker? And no, being on stock would be the best choice for you IMO.

Warranty exchange question

Okay so I was on Synergy 1.7 and Beans and I had GPS issues. The GPS would never lock on. I turned on Navigation and it would stay stuck on "searching for GPS". I Odined back to stock and same issue. So now I'm thinking I need to exchange it. Two questions tho.
1) will I need to contact Verizon or Samsung for the exchange?
2) I got this from a trade here in XDA. Will this affect me getting an exchange?
Thanks in advance

Well you can take it in to Verizon but I don't think they would exchange it, especially if you bought/traded/etc it from a third party. In my experience they would just claim it was abused or messed with by you or previous owner and offer to "fix" it for a price.
1. Verizon
2. I can't say.
Before you call up Verizon, though, I recommend you search the Synergy thread for a GPS fix. I remember someone working it all out, though I don't recall the specifics. I figure you'd rather go through that than swap devices.

As long as you didn't get it from them, they will most likely give you a hard time about exchanging it because if not from Verizon, you had to get it from a third party used :/

Hey Jay,
I have actually done manufacturers warranty claims on phones that I have purchased through a 3rd party (eBay) a few times with Verizon. I don't offer up where I got the phone, but they don't generally ask either (in my experience). The phone should still be covered under the 1 year warranty with Samsung, Verizon just honors that warranty for you and ships out a different refurbished phone in its place. As long as you put a stock image back on your original phone before sending it back in you shouldn't have any problems.
Also, I usually tell them right up front that I "went into a store and worked with their tech support people who gave me this number to call to get a replacement phone. Already did 2 factory resets and checked that I had the latest software update and it didn't help at all." That usually helps to bypass all of the generic tech support questions that they ask and just get down to getting your new phone.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Thank you so much. I'll try this out after I try a few other things to try to get my GPS to work. I'm currently completely stock so I'm hoping I find a way. So they send you the refurb phone and they give you like a box to send it back like Asurion does with insurance claims?

Yes, they send you a refurb phone and you keep your original battery, battery cover, sim, and SD Card. Then place the old phone back in the box and affix the return tag that was included with the replacement phone. It's super easy.

Yea, that is how Verizon handles it.
Does anyone know how Samsung would handle it if you try to go through them like the other guy suggested? I'm in the same boat and would rather return to Samsung than Verizon (I hate that Verizon gives me a used phone in exchange for a phone that I paid full price for and bought new). I feel like Samsung would want me to send the phone back to them first, which I cant really do because I need my phone and don't want to activate an older phone and lose my unlimited data.

Why? HTC has 2 years warranty and will do it for free till the next MAY at least. If you request it NOW, it's unlikely they'll ask for a proof of purchase (they didn't ask me)
So your warranty isn't void then?
I wish there was a good equivalent in my area of the US.

And for the record, many Sensations did ship from the factory with S-off. So they have no possible way to prove you did it yourself.
Plus it's probably more expensive for them to argue about your software changes when you send in a hardware problem than it is to just fix the hardware problem. Especially since it's a known hardware problem that HTC fully admits to.
That said, there are numerous stories of people who've sent fully rooted phones to HTC with custom ROMs installed to have hardware problems fixed and the phone came back repaired just fine.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get your phone back from the time you send it to them?
In the Netherlands HTC has repair partners all over the country. I went in one of the shops and 1 hour later they called that my new screen was installed. Did not ask anything or check my phone.
I would assume that sending in a phone for this problem wouldn't matter if you're rooted since software can't get dust under your screen.

Esecailly since it's so incredibly easy to flash a stock ROM before sending it in which would mean they'd never notice something wasn't stock.
Yeahthe aftermarket recovery might still be there and it might be S-Off but I doubt the guy sitting at his desk fixing 25 phones a day is goign to notice those things when he's replacing a screen gasket to seal out dust. Now if he booted it and it said CYANOGENMOD and lacked Sense, it might stand out to him...
Also, did anyone know the answer to my last question? About how long it takes to get a phone back from HTC with the screen dust issue repaired? I'm in the USA as I assume where you start from makes a difference. Like the post above that says in the Netherlands there are shops that will fix it in an hour...I don't think I can do that here.

minus the shipping to get there (which you can change) for me its been about 3 days from them receiving it to them having it in repair to them getting ready to ship, dont know though if the screen is repaired but i did mention it as one of many things faulty with the device
This problem also started to develop on my phone. I wish we have repairs stores around the area I live (I also live in the US).
One question, do I have to pay for the shipping fee to ship the phone to them?

yes you do
also and this very important, ship it in a box specifically made to ship small electronic items (was going to shiping it in something else) as they can void your warranty for breakage when shipping, thankfully i was told that before shipping the actual device so there was not much a problem...

Bought a bricked one S. Can I fix it?

Hey One S community. I hope this will be my new home. I currently have a Samsung galaxy vibrant so the One S would be a huge update (original snapdragon so the s4). Anyways, I bought a like new condition HTC one S which will not boot. Apparently the guy was attempting to unlock the boot loader and ended up wiping the phone. The phone will power up to the HTC screen so fast boot should be accessible. I'm hoping to reflash it with the T-Mobile RUU. I played 170$ for it. What are my odds of this phone being bricked forever?

Waiting to see if I can. Is there any known situations where you wouldn't be able to? (assuming hardware is perfect). The guy claims that he can get into the bootloader and I can't see any situations where I couldn't fix it. If there is something he didn't tell me I should be fine as eBay buyer protection says that all his comments on the sale must be "in good faith" and not sneaky.
this was his item description: The phone is soft bricked, it will only boot to the htc logo. The bootloader needs to be re-locked in order to get it working. The phone is in excellent condition with no signs of wear, no charger included.

Sure wish I had seen your ad then . There seems to be a real bubble on the pricing of these phones. Check out ebay, for anything in new condition it is 300+ and anything with heavy use or moderate scratching is in the 230-250 range. I thought 170$ for a phone that seems a likely fix and is in mint condition is pretty good. I've always admired the One S as a phone anyways. Oh and the nexus 4 is out of stock all the time. here is some ebay reference, these are the last few One S's sold, I am the 165$: http://www.ebay.com/csc/Cell-Phones...Sold=1&_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=htc+one+s

On contract? I bought the phone unlocked. If you got it new unlocked for that price, tell me where cause I'll take 3. On eBay they seem to be going for 300ish new. Moreover thanks for the help guys. Seems like a great community I'll be back with results!

Time to double post for a statu update so I go the phone and got it running within and hour. checked the IMEI with t mobile and everything. Mint condition. What's the most vanilla jellybean rom I can go to? thanks.
Vanilla like cm10 with no sense, or the virtuous with sense and jb?
I'd say vanilla CM10 no paranoidandroid or anything. I tend to be a purist. if theres any other aosp roms that'd be good too. also how's the state of android 4.2? can you direct me to the right threads?
There is an unofficial for 4.2 but I'd go with the mist recent nightly here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799139
Thanks. I ended up going with cm10 because while I loved 4.2 on my vibrant, camera is important to me. great phone so far. The amoled screen is a little of putting with the colorful edges on the text.

Best place to sell

Hi, I have a metal grey HTC One M8. I had it about 5 months and a couple days ago it met its fate over a disagreement with my girlfriend... So with that being said the screen has ONE long crack in it. Other than that its in working condition. It's on the current 4.4.4. firmware with a Unlocked Bootloader and S-off. Where would be the best place to sell this? This is my first time selling a smartphone, so im kind of lost here...

Swappa (link above, xda approved) best value but not sure if they accept cracked screens. Craigslist is fastest way, see what others are going for and compete. If it were me, I would buy lcd on amazon, fix and either use or sell for way more value and make up the cost of replacing the lcd.

You can do this too, but I would recommend glyde and usell. You can sell used phones and also buy used phones on those websites
The HTC Advantage warranty covers screen replacement for 6 months...

+1 .. be sure to ask them to send you a free shipping label too! they are very good about getting it replaced. Make sure before you call you downgrade and lock and s-on first! They can see that too if your phone is online!

Thats where I screwed up... I RUUed and everything got everything back to stock, BUT forgot to S-on and lock the Bootloader. So they gladly voided my warranty... I'm not to mad though My memory has gotten me in worse situations. EX. Going to and ATM to withdraw money just to leave the money in the dispenser!!!

You already did this or called them up on the phone today and they said this? I would restore it to 4.4.3 and locked and s-on. They cannot void physical warranty like this because you were s-off. When you call them back tell them you want the six month warranty glass replacement. Don't even bring up s status or unlock status. If they do tell them it's 100% stock.

dottat, I was under the impression that you were a big advocate of once s-off, never turn it back on.

If HTC was going to replace a phone or screen under warranty and pay for shipping, it would be something I would s-on for. I would put it on an os and firmware combo that is exploitable by sunshine hoping they wouldn't upgrade it. If they do upgrade, you would have to wait (in this case) for sunshine 3.0.
Swappa is the best way to go. I have bought many phones from there and even when there's an issue, the seller is more often than not pretty understanding and the Swappa staff is top notch with customer service.
