Side loaded Apps showing in Main Menu - Nexus Player General

I just installed "TinyCam Monitor Pro" and it appeared in the Main Menu. Wonder if their are other apps not listed that will do the same. Maybe Google is planing to release some more support apps soon?

Kodi (aka XBMC) showed up on my Main Menu after installing, but subsequent installs of Amazon and Amazon Instant Video do not show up on Main Menu (side note: Amazon Instant Video loaded, but nexus couldn't navigate to a video for me to test playing)

Any app can make itself visible from the main screen by declaring a CATEGORY_LEANBACK_LAUNCHER intent. It is one of the requirements for being allowed into the Android TV store, but any developer can put that in their app.

G-Tablet Is Back In The Market

I just noticed that the G-Tablet is once again showing up in the market.
I can see a separate device for each ROM I had installed in my tablet.
The app compatibility appears to be shown correctly.
Hmmm, my gTablet is still not appearing in the "My Devices" list on the web Market, nor as a selectable device under any app. Running Flashback 10.1, although this problem first appeared when it was running 9.0.
It didn't show up for me on BoS, but it does on flashback 10.1. I can confirm that it works for me.
My Beasty gTab just showed up in the market. Also seeing about 5 previous ROM installs.
Yup mine was not showing yeaterday with FB 10, flashed FB10.1 and today it shows. Along with about 10 other gtabs? from all the different roms! LOL
I sure wish google would give us the option to remove devices. I have a HTC hero from over a year ago, I'd like to axe with all those bogus gtabs.
OP, Nice find!
I'm now seeing my GTablet on the web Android Market again, in all its ROM incarnations. I wonder if Viewsonic worked this out with Google, or Google just re-enabled all old device histories?

BTW: good job, OP!
Sweet Showing up for me as well under "Nvidia Flashback 10
I posted about this in an earlier thread. Now google thinks i have 5 G tabs lol. Each with a different rom.

Where are you seeing your devices? When I go to the android market home from my computer and login, I do not see where 'my devices' are listed anywhere. Thanks! - m

Market knows G Tab, thinks it shouldn't have Honeycomb
This only just happened for me. Today is the first time mine has shown up since I reflashed Flashback 10.1. My problem is that Market thinks it is so smart, it won't let me install apps that it doesn't think are compatible, like the new Time Warner cable app (for Xoom and Galaxy). Does anyone know a good way to sideload apps from the market?
Have you tried the improved full market fix in order to get access to all apps in the Market? On newer ROMs, I have found that only steps 6 - 8 need to be performed.
[STICKY][FIX] Full market (improved market fix) on G Tablet
yes. now mine is showing !!
I too am now able to once again download and update apps on my G-Tab from the Google Android Market - yea! Looks like Google fielded enough complaints from G-Tab owners that they finally decided that adding the device was in everyone's best interest?
- Michael
G-Tab running Vegan Tab 5.1.1
I now have Skype video, Amazon cloud, and Kindle working! You must uninstall apps then reinstall them.

As i wrote in this thread I solved that issue purchasing the app with a phone running an old (2.2.6) version of the Market app. If you don't have an old phone with an old market, i think you can try downgrading your market app to a 2.x version (and blocking the market autoupdate before it starts, but i dont know how you could do it) and see if it allows you to purchase.

It's no subtitute for a fixed market but if you're in a fix, you could also go to the market website and purchase apps that way. They're even pushed to your phone automatically.

That's what I did to buy ADW Ex that kept giving me an error directly on the phone. It wasn't the same error, but hopping on my PC worked without a problem and the update was pushed to my phone as soon as I switched the screen on.
on the website via PC is the same...just tried...i will try to downgrade market app
I obviously tried from the web market too, but it showed the app as purchased and then returned the same error "you haven't purchased the app". For me only downgrading the marked fixed the problem
However it's evident there's a problem with paid apps installed from outside the market and the market account. It sees them as purchased when they're not. Or maybe the cause was a Titanium Backup market doctor?
Anyway downgrading the market is a good workaround for the moment...
"Simple" solution
I found a simple solution in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23356474&postcount=18 but it had German instructions which I followed as best as I could and was finally able to purchase Tunein Radio Pro from the Google market.
I used Firefox and new Google Play market.
Basically you go to the Google market website on your computer and RIGHT click on the "Purchased" button - that.s the same button that you would normally Buy/Install an app.
When the menu shows up I chose "Inspect Element" which added a menu bar at the bottom after pressing HTML button on the right my browser was split in two with the bottom now having the source code of the "Purchase button"
Clicking "Purchased" in the upper window highlights the code that is executed. In my case I had to scroll a few lines up and found the beginning of the line with "<a class="buy-link buy-button goog-inline-block", and in that line I found data-ispurchased="true".
Double clicking on just "true" opened a pop up window where I could change the value to false.
Clicked on an X on the right in the menu that's between my two window panes closing the bottom Inspect pane.
Now LEFT (normal) clicking on the "Purchased" button allowed me to buy the app.

[Q] Apps not downloading

I don't use my A700 all that much but I have noticed recently that none of my downloaded apps from the play store are automatically updating as they used to do. I have done a search of the internet and found others that have had a similar problem but none of the fixes have worked for me.
I am using Adroid 4.1.1, kernel version 3.1.10+ and build number Acer_AV051_A700_1.052.00_PA_CUS1. I have checked for updates but the tablet says none are available.

First off, I moved your post to Q & A forum.
As with your issue, going to Settings and checking for updates, is only for the Operating System, Not for apps.
Several changes to the Play Store in updating things. You can open your Play Store (old Market) and select your Installed Apps icon. This will tell you what apps need updated, and you can d it from there (best to have a good Wifi connection as I think you have many updates).
As with Auto-Updating, I believe each app you have installed has this available as an option. Normally, I select it when I install an app from the Play Store. So check your Play store options.

I guess that is where the problem lies. I go to Play Store but I cannot find a Installed Apps icon.
I went to settings and see "Auto-update apps" under the General category does not have a check mark next to it. I tapped it and made sure that "Auto-update apps at any time. Data charges may apply" is checked. Still no updates.
Thanks for your help
I´m not quite sure but I think I have a similar problem: Each time I want to install/update an app I have to kill all Google tasks in settings. I am on stock 4.1.1 rooted.

With Play Store, select the "down arrow" in the upper right corner. This takes you to "installed apps" and "All apps you have downloaded. Go to Installed Apps, and you can manually update them. Also, if you select an app, you can select auto updating. :good:

Don't have an answer for that one. However, you can kill the auto sync in quick settings rather than going directly into settings.

Thanks MD, that helped things along. I completely missed the "INSTALLED" at the top of the screen which does not surprise me in my advanced age.
Autoupdate is enabled for all of my apps but I still don't see the downloading being displayed in the lower right corner as I used to see in the past and a notification that an update for an app had completed. Maybe I am being impatient.
Thanks again for your help.

The second one I'd think.
There is a way to access "my apps" press Y on the Nvidia Shield and that will bring up the menu just as it does on phones that have a menu button...you can access more than just "my apps" as well such as settings adding gift cards etc.

[APP][TV5.0+][2015.03.10] Sideload Launcher for Android TV v1.05

Easily launch apps you sideloaded to your Android TV
This is only for the new Android TV devices, like the ADT-1 and the Nexus Player, it is completely useless on other devices
Android TV requires existing apps to be updated and declare themselves compatible before they're installable from the Play store.
While certainly not as streamlined or seamless as the average user would wish for their TV, many apps can still function on some level on these devices if you sideload them, but they don't show up in the Leanback Launcher (the Android TV homescreen).
So for that there is this app, the Sideload Launcher. A simple app that shows you the normal app launcher icons that a phone or tablet would show you, but which are hidden on Android TV, allowing you to launch any sideloaded app!
PS. This is a rather silly small app, but it came in handy for me while messing around. I don't expect this to become even remotely popular even when Android TV takes off, but it only took two hours to write, and I learned some new APIs, so if anyone at all ends up using being happy it exists, I consider that a win.
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher
Redistribution of the APK is not allowed.
(1.00: 1000 downloads; 1.02: 1140)
Thanks for this. This will def come in handy.
very cool. could this be modified or something similar for amazon firetv?
Excellent work as always.
Thank you!

I was one of the people who preordered the Nexus Player, so this makes the wait even harder now! Thanks for all the work you do man.
Don't know why but I just got my ADT today and it ain't working. Updating to lollypop

Yes, it's need to be slightly updated before the Play store will allow it to be visible because of the new TV guidelines...
How do you sideload on this device? I got mine yesterday and just hooked it up.
I'm far from a newb when it comes to using adb, fastboot and doing pretty much anything on android but I cannot get sideload to work on the nexus player. I've tried it from PC and Mac, I've used the most recent ADB version and USB driver. ADB sees the player but if i try to sideload it says "error". I've tried in recovery, frmo within a normal boot (dev options enabled, ADB is allowed as well as unknown sources)

EDIT: Approved by Google for TV distribution, yay! Now if only the Play store on my device would actually work, I could check it out...

[BUG] Menu Key Broken
I ran into a bug with v1.02.
I'm running this on the Nexus Player. I have the Amazon Fire TV stick remote paired with it. That gives me access to the menu button.
When I hit the menu button, Sideload Launcher hangs - no button presses except for the back button or the home button are recognized.
This app, Viaplay, does not show up in Sideload launcher. Any idea why?
Some Apps Not Showing
I sideloaded Plex (because the Android TV version of Plex is still too buggy for me) and it does not show up in Sideload Launcher.
As a workaround I tried to use Tasker and Autoshortcut to create an app with Tasker App Factory to open Plex. Thinking if I named the app something different it would show up in the Launcher. Well, that didn't work either as that app isn't showing. Is there a reason why certain apps aren't showing in the Sideload Launcher?
Plex development version v3.8.2.294 is not showing on the Nexus player. Earlier dev versions worked fine in the v3.5 ranges.
Is chrome preinstalled in sideload ?
Updated to v1.05: should make some of the missing apps show up. The app wouldn't load the title of apps that weren't properly localized (bad developer!), and in turn would fail to display them.
