Lollipop Always Listening - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the Shield support always listening?

yes and no...
When the screen is off no. But while the tablet is on the lockscreen or in use it works for me everywhere. A welcome update to google now for me since giving up my Droid Maxx.

[Q] Activate screen with Swipe Up

Hi, a friend of mine just switched to the N5 from the iphone. He's looking for the ability, similar to the iphone, to swipe up on the screen when the screen is off to turn it on. Is this possible with the N5? I haven't seen it mentioned so I'm guessing it isn't an option. Thanks.

That's what he's telling me. He's been a long time iphone user, I never had one.

I also googled it but came up empty too. Guess I miss understood him, will check with him tomorrow. Thanks.
Yeah the iPhone definitely doesn't have that capability, at least not without some serious jailbreak hacks. Maybe he's just pressing the home button on accident when he 'swipes'.
IPhones don't have it. I'm 100% sure. But android does. You can slide across the screen or double tap to turn it on with faux kernel or Nexus Touch control (doesn't wok with the nexus 5 yet)

Are you saying that these kernels will eventually support it for Nexus 5?
I'm currently using Faux but I don't see that functionality anywhere.

Not yet, but it's possible it will support it in the future.
Yea... i used to use an iPhone (owned a 3GS and 4 before switching to Android with the Motorola Atrix) and never saw such a feature with those. Can't imagine that being something Apple would do. Unless, of course... Google decides to do it at some point. Then maybe Apple will do something similar 3 years prior.

Yeah. Pretty soon the kernel devs are going to start implementing those features just like in the N4.
Went back to my friend and told him the feedback. He forgot it was his BB Z10, not the iphone so that clears it up. Still would be a nice feature.

[Q] Constant listening with launcher?

Hello,
Is it possible to have constant listening (like in Google Now launcher) in other launchers like Nova or Apex?
Thank you!

Any updates on always listening like on Moto X for other phones?
I looked into a few threads, didn't find anything.
Just checking since I started this...

It is certainly possible... Here is an interesting thread about the same:

Well I've seen the Nexus 5 proof of concept. Nexus 5 apparently has a dedicated audio processor in the SoC like the Moto X.
What about other devices?
Let's say I have a very old device running bare stripped OS and just want to use the voice search on it and nothing else?
Ironman-esque maybe?

[Q] Chromecast mirroring of NFL Mobile on Maxx?

Has anyone got their Droid Maxx to mirror NFL Mobile on their Chromecast device yet? I will buy a Chromecast right now if it works with NFL Mobile. I assume if it can "cast" the screen, that if the screen is playing NFL Mobile, it will work, but I wanna check with you guys first.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
I have not tried Chromecast, but I can report that the Wireless Display option works great with a Netgear PTV3000 Miracast device.

The Maxx isn't officially supported for Chromecast mirroring yet, for some reason. The NFL Mobile app isn't Chromecast supported that I can tell, either.
So, no, not yet, anyway.

I wouldn't count on the NFL making it easier to cast games.
They protect every single penny that they make.
Just an update. I went ahead and got the chromecast device, installed the app that allows the maxx to mirror with the chrome cast device even though iit isn't officially supported yet. Everything worked great. I watched red some and some games on my big screen instead of on my phone. It was awesome.?

This is a link to the experimental app that I found on xda. Worked for me to allow me to mirror my screen on my motorola droid maxx even though Chromocast doesn't support the device.

Volume alert

Hello, as much as I appreciate Samsung's concern for my health and safety, I am getting annoyed by the volume notification that says "Listening to music on high volume for long periods of time might be harmful" etc., sometimes I'm out running and I try to turn up the volume, it'll vibrate and block it, so I'm forced to pull out my phone and dismiss the freaking notification.
I tried searching for it in the settings, nothing came up as a toggle switch off.. Thanks ?

Nothing you can do about it without root. Samsung doesn't understand that external bluetooth devices have independent volume controls, apparently.

I actually don't know on this phone. On the S4, I used Xposed to remove the volume warning, but I don't know if that's available for the S6 yet. Might check the S6 development forums to see if there's anything.
This is an Android feature, not Samsung. I think Google added it in KitKat to comply with some laws somewhere.

I'm pretty sure it's a Samsung thing. The Moto G 2nd Gen running the 5.0 update doesn't do it, and didn't do it on the shipped 4.4 OS.

My LG Optimus G does it and so does my Nexus 7 (stock Android).

Well, I didn't know that. I don't use Google-stock android devices, and the Optimus G, when I had it, never did that. I did sell it before the update, though.

Plus Beat alternative

I came from one plus 6T and I think that best way to deal with no LED notifications was app called Plus Beat. It activate stock ambient display according to predefined time interval. Sadly it's no working on 7 Pro anymore. Anyone is aware of good alternative for that kind of app?
Hello
I also come from the 6T and I have installed it in my 7 Pro.
I think it worked better in the 6T, but I do not notice that goes wrong in the 7 Pro.
The only thing that ever worked for me is the option of DND profiles. When I set it up and activate it, I get into the app and the Option Enable Plus Beat It's off.
Anyone know how to fix it?
There's another app. It's called "Always on Edge". Works fine for me.

Tried Pixel Pulse today and doesn't seem to work either. Notifications come in, however they do not reappear again(pulse). Tried Always on Edge and Pulse Beat neither of them pulse, which is weird because Beat Pulse worked perfect for a day. Battery optimization was off for these apps.

It's really strange, some reports pixel puls working other they it's not working.. So far pixel pulse working flawlessly for me. It repeat pulse until notification it's dismissed. I try some edge but didn't like it. I prefer apps that use native ambient display rather than screen overlay..like aos edge or any led screen app

This may be a very dumb question but is there a way to dismiss notifications from the actual notification screen (I believe this is the ambient screen)?
The only way I've been able to dismiss notifications is to go into the lock screen and swipe away the notification.

I'm using Pixel Pulse (free version) on the OP7P Global US variant GM1917 OOS 9.5.4 rooted. I do have notifications to repeat every 20 seconds.
