I'm with you in dying for a Nexus 5 (and nexus 6) custom rom to have immersive mode/expanded desktop. Cyanogenmod is working on it, but even as of today (11/29), it's not in any builds made from unofficial CM12. The only thing to hold you over until a dev puts this in is that there is a an app from GMD for immersive mode. I don't like how it works (and requires an in-app purchase to make a line go away) so I don't use it and rather wait "patiently" for expanded desktop/immersive mode on custom roms, but it's there.

First u have to install LMT launcher (tap lmt launcher xda on google and u will find the app).
Second u have to configure LMT launcher which is PIE Control.
And third u have to install root browser and add this line at the end of system build.prop : qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Make sure LMT launcher is well configurated because it's not possible to bring back the original navbar after this.
Hope I helped u.

Any chance of being able to just hide the notification bar? So that it's still available like in-app immersive? Really like that the nav bar don't come up by the way, thx for that.
Edit - I'm doing this on a grouper. Just being point in the right direction would be great. But I got a feeling that what i'm asking is a little more complicated....

I use LMT for pie (works great) and the hide navbar method of qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 in build.prop same as you.
But it is possible to bring back the navbar launcher. Just navigate to your build.prop and delete the text you added "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" then reboot.

U can use a third part launcher as Nova to hide the notification bar on desktop and drawer but impossible to hide this one when u open an app.
I use Chrome Beta and the 3 dots reappears.

Thanks for the chrome beta advice! And with all respect would never switch from GELauncher to any other launcher! Its swift, fast & efficient!
I do miss the Gravity Box module & the whole xposed installer!
Wish I was a smart developer and could help xposed get on lollipop soon!

Missed xposed too. Still no news from devs of xposed. Hope something will arrive as a gift for 2015 .

Hi all,
Introudcing my request for someone to implement a no-nav bar mod, either via Xposed or through any other way.
In order to maximise screen estate, I would use pie-related apps in order to emulate the nav bar buttons.
Thanks a lot.

There are many many ways out there, you can find them by doing a simple search
But persionally I prefer GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys ★ root for this matter,
or you can try this app (might need xposed) to do the job:
[APP][4.0+]Ultimate Dynamic Navbar
good luck

I agree, and I am using Xposed with GMD Gesture Control to replace it. For whatever it's worth, when I used auto hide soft keys, the green phone button on the dialer disappeared. Switched to Xposed method and haven't looked back.
Expanded desktop mode via gravity box
Just add this line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" without the quotes in system/build.prop using a text editor.Reboot your phone and voila...no navbar. Before removing the navbar install LMT launcher or any other alternative. And for the dial button problem in phone app just install APP SETTINGS xposed module and set the Contacts dpi to 305 and everything will be perfect.
Hey,
I recall seeing a review in which the reviewer mentioned you could long press any icon and change the icon for another, it also had the option to add your own.
Has anyone tried this / can confirm?
Thinking of themeing the phone without root on an icon by icon basis - are there any icons it won't allow you to change?
Thanks!
I was hoping someone could answer this, I probably saw the same review... He didn't pass the add your own option, would be nice to be able to use icon packs

Yeah that's definitely an option but I'm sure I saw this functionality on LGs launcher but it looked like you could only change them on an icon by icon basis opposed to applying an icon pack?
You can but only on the home screen, just keep holding down on the icon until you hear the phone vibrate let go and then hit the paint brush next to it.
Also it does not work if the apps are in folders already.

Damn. Is it possible to add icon packs after root without changing your launcher? I'd like to keep everything the same but just change the icons.

AFAIK it's not possible without changing your launcher which also means you lose knock code support.

There's an app called "icon changer" which can change the app icons on the homesceen to something you choose.

Erm, you do not lose knock code by simply changing the launcher. Launchers have no influence on it. I'm using Action Launcher and it works perfectly

Double tap to wake/sleep does also work with other launchers. It's integrated in the system and therefore not being changed by other launcher which is just an app with a different UI. Actually everything works no matter if you use LG UI or different launcher. The only possibility to change system settings is via root + Xposed installer with G3 tweakbox and/or gravity box. So no worries

Hm, that's strange. I haven't been using Nova for quite some time so I'm not sure but it might be some Nova setting in that case. With Action Launcher it works normally.
for me the double tap to wake/sleep only works on dalvik runtime, the moment i convert to art it refuses to work

I now own this phone and I can confirm you can change the icons to some crap options off LG or you can Google some nice PNG files on Google and set them yourself. It only changes them on the home screen though and not the app drawer [emoji106]
Well double tap to wake up to Lock screen or use knock code to Home Screen and double tap to sleep work perfectly for me using Nova.
To double tap to sleep I have an app titled 'Turn Off' in which to get it to work where you simply double tap anywhere on the Nova Home screen I went to Nova Settings/Gestures and for Double Tap gesture I assigned a shortcut to the Turn Off app.
Now I never need to press the power button for both wake or sleep.
UNICON works great for me and i get to keep stock launcher for now till i get bored :good:

it s default on android 6.0 system UI so you have use a 3rd party tool or app to disable it.

Got it. Did that, thanks man. Is there a way to disable the "expansion" of notifications by default? After I rooted, all notifications are showing expanded. It used to take a two-finger swipe down to expand each but now they just all show up like that by default. And I'm not even able to collapse them. They start collapsing when I do two-finger swipe up but go back to their expanded mode when let go.

The two finger swipe looks like it's gonna happen with the notification starting to collapse as expected but then expands back when the fingers are released. It will not stay collapsed. And they are ALL expanded by default, even a silly screenshot notification and other notifications that didn't used to be expanded before I rooted but are now.
Hello!
So I just have a quick question about the latest update for the S8, where they removed black as an option for the Navbar color and enabled us to hide it (immersive mode).
Whenever you hide the navbar, how does the "swipe up" gesture work in reality? As in how "good" does it work? I remember (before the update) trying the immersive mode with Custom Navigation bar (app), and the swipe up gesture was bad, whenever I tried to get the navbar up, I was scrolling up in the app I was using as well..?

It's just easier than ADB, if you don't have the sdk downloaded or not around a PC. I used ADB to get rid of the battery icon in the status bar. The apk is just an overlay like all of these.

You can use an app over on the play store known as "SystemUI Tuner" and you can toggle immersive mode fully, nav bar only (which is what you're looking for), and status bar only. You can do that after giving permissions via ADB or root access grant, if possible.
Forgot to add a screenshot of the app, you could plausibly use it at your will. I don't know if it will work since i don't have oreo myself but i believe it has support for it.

Just tested it right now. The nav bar does pop out when you're using the keyboard and when you have the notification panel dropped down.
Did someone found a way to hide the navbar while the keyboard or notification panel is present? Well annoying this is!
